NCsoft Launcher Transition

As of today, the NCsoft Launcher now fully supports Lineage II and all updates applied to the game. The download speeds are significantly faster than through the Lineage II Updater. With this change, the Lineage II updater will be retired on November 23, 2011. Please begin using the NCsoft Launcher moving forward. The NCsoft Launcher can be downloaded here (ftp://ftp.ncsoft.com/Launcher/NCsoftLauncherSetup.exe).

can you give instructions for those(like me) who dont have installed the l2 in their pc and they just have the game files copy paste from previous install?

I just installed it after the announcement.
I downloaded it from the link given on the NCSoft page, and installed it.
It launched and did some updates
It automatically detected Lineage II and Lineage II PTS directory (which are not in default emplacement)
I did a minor update, and now it works well :)

i have 2 separate game copies, for performance reasons and to keep boxed client settings separated

Why would you want to install ncsoft launcher if you dont even have a game? I dont think it will download the actual game, only updates. You still need to download the game from their website, no? Or will ncsoft launcher will download the client which is ~12gb I think?

And How big do you think the update is going to be? I'd say 1gb in size?

Where is the problem ? Just dl the updater. i have the updater months! Its nice. It dl automaticaly the updates and patches of the other games i have installed ( COH etc ) ! :P

Wonderfu! I've been using the NCSoft Launcher for a while, and have really enjoyed the functionality. Fire it up, update all the compatible games, and do my thing in the meantime. These days that means all my games except Guild Wars are up to date, ready for whenever I decide to play ^_^

Dont worry, this **** just read registry section about installed programs, thats why it cant see any more, so if you copy whole game from backup for example, and dont have record in registry about LINEAGE installed - it will not see. Pity. So what? Reinstall? Import some registry files from other PC with l2 installed? Cuz i guess when i press update it will download me 12 Gb of full game, rofl

There are very few characters which aren't in Unicode, so unless his has his directory names in Klingon, that's not very likely.

Program is working fine for me.
Tested at:
Win7 x32 and Win7 x64

However after instating on 3 computers results were weird.

at 1st downloaded some 1-2 MB of data to patch L2 ... finish succesfully even when L2 session (shop ) was running.
at 2nd it downloaded roughly 40 MB
at 3rd ... 240 MB...

All were fresh patched by 'old' updater and were playable.

Seeing those result I close 1 st L2, restart patcher - no any downloads, and game restarted without troubles (shop again). :confused:

P.S. Personally I like more that one then old :D

Yesterday, after my grinding session and before I went to sleep, I decided to give this a try.

It installed and detected Lineage 2 flawlessly. Lineage 2, then, did a small update, which made me anxious, thinking "what the freaking hell is there to update just yet?".

Lineage 2 fired up and I logged into my little cardinal on Chronos.

Now is when the weird part begins: Hunters Village loaded up WAY faster than expected. I made a walk around and something was different. Ported to Aden and, again, the city and its toons were up in no time. Took me another walk to realize what was different: My delay had decreased!

Skeptical, I logged into Naia, where my little delay was more noticeable, but still playable to full extend. I was astonished when I realized my gameplay on Naia was just like in Chronos: No delays!

So, anyone can tell me if it is just a placebo, a lucky time for my ISP or if they did indeed improve the connection between the client and the servers?

I mean, I was grinding for 2,5 hours before, I definitely noticed a drop in the delay or lag, even it being small...

Either I'm going insane (most probably) or they are making tests before moving Naia to US.

Anyone else knows more?

Tbh I don't mind if it has or not.
As long its not Frost like scanning mine mials/web pages I have no trouble if it checks residing in memory programs.

I could play normally .. ok I could set shop normally :D
I haven't observe any slow down.

Don't like it. Can't start the game with just the keyboard.

Edit: Hm, if you right click "Lineage II" in the launcher you can create a desktop shortcut which auto-starts the game after the updater runs. That's arguably better than before.

Imma telling ya, Pony Master, my connection to Naia was cleaner than ever...

Maybe you could try to check your connection to Chronos.... that would give you a good heads off into this...

Now I have a question, I run 2 clients from 2 different folders for different graphic settings for my box buffer, how can I make the ncsoft updater detect this other folder for update purposes?

The launcher works just fine and has been for awhile now, yes you can use it for multiple accounts with zero issue.

Less complaining about everything and spend more time putting spinners on a gold jet ski.

Repair your .NET Framework 3.5 installation... NCLauncher Uses 3.5, not 4.0 and most 3.5 apps are set do run only with it... 4.0 isn't just a incremental update to 3.5, like 3.5 was to 3.0 and so on...

there is no link yet for god client, if you stay like this, you will be able to update your current client to GoD on November 30

I've got an error when I close the game. It's the generic error in Windows 7 (I've got Windows 7 x64) to send info to Microsoft or close the program

If I use the updater there is no error :(

few problems discovered.
launcher is very very veeeeery overloaded and laggy. it need to be more lightweight.
sometimes it throws error about memory error or smth, "it is indication of corrupted memory", idk why it is drop but no other program or test services do not identify problems like this.
main problem is installation of game. for example i downloaded h5 patch (11gb) and i needed to free up another 11gb in my hdd for nclauncher to extract it. after that mine 11gb came back (patch deleted) but its frustated ant not comfortabily to delete/move files. i think there are other solutions for this like delete file in patch after extracting it, etc etc

You need to rename the folder which has "??????" instead of a name with an English word.

Has anyone found a work around for separate clients yet?
I always two box when I play this game so I have 2nd install/Lineage 2 directory just for that client. I do this so it can have it own keybinds/graphic settings etc.

I tried copying the NC launcher to this folder but it dosent seem to have changed anything.

I doubt there is one, pretty sure the Launcher is just designed to run the game from a single installation directory but allowing for multiple clients.

personal i have explain to over than 10ppl one by one how and what to do to install the new launcher,i want to help others if i can but is rly boring after some time.

The reason for not doing that is probably that installing new launcher and using it is SO easy, that even a 5 years old kid can do it. Are the people you know more stupid than a 5 years old kid?

New launcher sux in my opinion. All that was needed it was the upgrade the old one.

som1 can answer what to do ncsoft launcer when i start him he dont start on task manager show about 2-3 sec and then disaper i aded him on firewall delet antivurus but still dont work dont start so what now ?? :mad::confused: and this problem hawe not only me

For those asking about boxing and multiple instances, follow these Steps:

1. Before posting, read the whole thread. This was already answered.
2. Before using ANY piece of software, check its options.
3. If you are still lazy, open NC Launcher and check this:

I just tested and it loads 2 clients perfectly...

before you go blindly using a computer, learn how to use a computer. This is your best guide, support, helpdesk and antivirus.

Same here, i've been like that for 3 times, download 11gb, then it just start again, and again.

I have the same issue, occasionally it will start to install after the 11gb download twice, but then this error comes up:

I've run as administrator, turned off UAC, I'm not using a router...I did some googling and it seems many ppl had this problem with Aion, and even dating back to Guild Wars 1 in 2005...

There is no solution I can see, some ppl installed the game to another computer and copied it over with USB drive, I don't think that is acceptable...


This is by far the worst launcher I've ever seen, did you even test it before releasing? Oh and I tried to download H5 client through Gamershell, then I find out that it's not possible to use this launcher to find an existing install of L2, it just tries to download the 11GB again...completely useless. I would prefer the old Lineage 2 launcher even if it meant 50% slower download speeds.

I've tried different clients on different hard drives, reinstalling the launcher to isolated hard drives and some other more under handed tactics, but I still cant have separate L2 clients with their own settings :confused:

I guess the days of super convenient two boxing are over. It wouldn't be an issue if the game was properly coded by qualified people and didnt run like total garbage even on DX11 rigs but oh well. The game is free to play so you get what you pay for lol~

It is not the end of the world that I have resize my buffers window and turn on lower detail everytime I log it in but it sure is annoying.

At some point you will get used to it. Doubt they will change updater coz of multiboxers.

Do what I did, just buy more comps :D

If you have ever played on a private L2 server you need to delete the hosts file, which can be found here => C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.

This is a little vague. I can only locate one of my L2.bins when it asks me to find it after I rename my folders, how do you register more than one copy of the game inside of the NC Launcher?

Would you kindly be more specific as to how you got it to work good sir?

Ah ok I have found a fix to this.

Copy your Lineage 2 Folder to anywhere you want for your boxes/main.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\Lineage II\system and find L2.bin

Rename L2.bin to L2.exe (this is changing the file extension, to do this you may need to go to your FOLDER OPTIONS menu you in Windows Control Planel)

Make a short cut to it on your desktop for Main, Box1, Box2 or whatever.

This wont work if your client is out of date, so will need to update your client every patch through the Launcher and then repeat this process.
