good idea, and effective removal of being able to pk makes this game a LOT more carebear, but that is what the Koreans wanted to w/e. a big loss of the formerly hardcore nature of this game.

however I am thinking that if the permared is not awakened itself, it will be unable to pk awakened char (that is not afk). and to make it able to pk you will need to put decent gear on it, which will always have the chance of dropping; maybe you can afford to put a 150 weapon on it and lose that, but if that is insufficient and you need a 300 weapon to kill anything you will have to follow the perma around with a full party of supports to keep it alive or be ready to multi-bsoe

Try to play counter strike, you'll like it
no I only play this game >< it's bad enough ty
hope u guys are aware of the new changes on going red, not even augments will stop stuff from dropping once past 30pks the moment ur red..
my friend checked being permared on ruoff. 1k+ pks during couple of weeks w/ casual playing 1-2 hour per day. summary: or u need to get max lvl and then go to permared or u will stuck at low-lvl cuz
when chaotic character dies he always goes -10%,
when u r in chaotic mode u dont get any exp so u cant get exp loss back
from one mob u wash like 20-30 karma, 1ts pk u get around 500-600 karma (my friend had more than 40kk karma at 59 lvl, so would take eternity to wash it)
u dont lose bound items

dunno if smth was fixed or changed in korea. but on ruoff live it was working this way

you do know there a buff given to low lvls that keeps them from being Pked by people 10 lvls higher then them.... and they get to ge that all the way to lvl 39 i think
Well karma wont matter since its a permared, dropping stuff wont matter since its common item gear and weapons. and the char were some lvl 70ish ones that i was gonna delete anyways. stay in the low level areas and just kill anything that comes out of town. Are you guys new? this was done at the start of this game, lets get back to our grass roots hehe.

and again....... lvl 39 might be lvl 36 and blow can get a buff that stops people from Pking them that are 10 lvls higher then them

Are you people for real? Don't you think people like you have ruined this game enough?

Let new people get to a level they can fight back. Or roll your own new toon and fight them at their levels (just above if you really have no skill or imagination).

In 'the old days' the level gap between perma red and gankee (see what I did there>?) was 20 levels at most. Where is the 'fun' one shotting new players with your 70+ toon?
Do you feel the need to do this because you can't pvp people your own level?
nope. it's fun to remind ppl that l2 is cruel world :-)

Its cruel indeed...
It reminds you how stupid one is trying to pk low lvls with a 70+ toon....

Hey mister... i am very low lvl... plizzz dont kill mee....i am very scared!!!
Way back in the day... my clan would hold what we liked to call bloody Sunday. Every weekend ended with us getting on our Perma-Reds and running all over the map killing D,C,B and A graders. It was fun and not challenging at all. When I look back I don’t know why we enjoyed it more, emotional closure from the days when it was done to us or enjoying all the QQ and the shouts there are “Red Killing us in Execution Grounds!” and the soon to follow posse hunting us down only to be killed in the farmlands that surround Floran Village?

My character had over 600,000 Karma when I started washing her red off, even with the best resurrection available (no brez) she went from A grade to C before she was all clean again. I still have a macro to kill & rez in a group.

Those were the days…
The only permared i had was 1 char to clean the catas from bots when i wanted to xp there.
(And one time my main as i quit cos of that many bots. Cleaned 2times whole HC ending with tons of karma)
I used to delevel my festival nukers on Dion permareds. Too bad most of them couldn't handle it

Any one who has a perma red they want to take around any areas let me know I got a toon that has a summoner sub and I'd be happy to port you around the map to hear all the QQing afterwords ;)
This is a great idea, we don't want the game to get more people, we rather the game continue loosing players and shut down sooner than later, so let's harass the new players and make them quit, that'll show them and NC West
Constant rdy to defend new player ;) try to pk them all ;)

LOL, if you are so unstable that being killed a few times in a virtual world causes you to quit that game rather than get better and strike back you need to pick a new game like hop scotch or tic-tac-toe.

A Player-vs-Player heavy game is not where you should be socializing.
tic-tac-toe.

To much pvp for me. :(
pvp hop scotch - I would watch that on youtube!

Actually, tic-tac-toe is more of a PvP game than L2 is.

true it doesnt require you to kill 7 million X's before a proper straight line of O's can be made.

lol
Tell us Spudnik, exactly how qualified are you in the field of in-game player vs player combat to speak in such terms? What gives the rest of you such confidence in discussing the topic when your apparent experience in such a field is limited to a month or so of griefing over 5 years ago?

well, let me count the ways!!

a: i actually had no contributing advice to pvp combat.

b: i posted tangentially, derailing the topic further

c: this thread is about rhetoricals

d: you still have no idea who i am in the game, nor i you.

e: haters gonna hate.

Does dying repeatedly to everyone you've ever PvPed against count? If so, I am vastly qualified.

And are you so unstable in your social behaviour that you need some "i am strong" feelings in a virtual game while pking ppl that haven't a chance vs. you?

Go pvp some in your range or higher/better geared ppl, beat them and then you can feel strong.

(Also saying that ig you don't need to be social while in fact you interact with real persons.... Says all about you.)

PKing has always been a part of this game. ANY influx of new players has always brought the perma's out of hiding. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it is part (for now anyway) of L2.

Thats not what I read in the notes.

I read you don't drop anything till 30 PKs.
You can earn positive karma(free PKs?) by killing other reds.
PK count is reduced by Fame, which now is earned exponentially instead of trickles.
Augmented gear now drops. No more hand holding.
No more dodging wars, for anyone.

Doesn't seem all that carebear to me.

Regardless of the combatants levels in this gaming environment the developers encourage unrestrained player verses player, it by no means balances the fight and that is a very good real life simulation. It appears a few in this community have lived a shelter life and believe only perfectly matched conflicts should exists.

While I do enjoy killing characters equally or better prepared, there is pleasure received be the pure thrill of the kill. This is just like say you should only get pleasure from dating really hot females, while I believe all females will give me varying levels of pleasure regardless of their skill level.

bth ppl, who pk on a regular basis, dont do it to feel stronger, they do it just to get some lulz

I find it interesting that you have been allowed to exist in this community for so long while continuously breaking the rules. This being a forum where every other rule breaker is quickly crushed under a mountain of infractions and nonnegotiable bans. I think you have singlehandedly harmed this community more than any other poster with your bad attitude, bad advice, and bad example.
It's not about being sheltered or carbear; it's about how unfair it is to be one shotted by a guy 40 levels above you.

It was weak back then, it is weak right now, it will still be weak in GoD.

One thing is being able to fight back griefers and kill stealers anywhere on the land; another entirely being able to one shot guys who have no chance to fight back.

It wasn't terribad in the early chronicles as equipment was scarce, half the people had to glitch buying the armor in Giran, top D was craft only so you needed connections, soulshots and spirit shots were hardly used 24/7 when hunting, very few people had top C grade before chronicle two

it is already 3 or 4 years i think since newbie protection buff was introduced, which prevents player from atacks of anyone 10 or more levels higher than you. also it is free. if you dont use it, whose fault it is?
I'm really not sure why all the "knight in shinning armor" BS stance about not killing anyone lower level... this is a game in which everything is killed, not to mention nothing is really lost when a 61+ Character kills a 40 character. Please don't come at me with the lame loss of XP line, they loose less XP in death than they will get killing 2 more mobs. But I am willing to bet their blood pressure sure did increase and they will be aware of their surroundings for the next few hours of mindless grinding. This experience sure sounds like excitement.

Being killed in any game shouldn't be the breaking point, you should pick yourself up and get better. I am not advocating the ruthless continual beat down of a level 10 character. For the record, lowbie toons can protect themselves while out of town from chaotic characters be request protection from the newbie buffer.

You are looking at this from wrong angle. Each player has a ''goal of the day'' or any ''goal'' either to level up or w/e. By killing those players your are ruining their goals, they might get along with single kill or 2 kills, but they can't afford to wait for 2 hours before you and every other perma red will be bored. Bottom line is that being low level they don't have much options really, therefore ruining the ones they have leaves them with no option at all which in turn makes them leave the game or not play it.

There's a saying ''don't do anything to the other what you wouldn't like your self''. I doubt you'd be logging your perma red char if you'd knew that the moment you will try to PK low level char, you will insta die. You get close to that lower level, you try to PK yet you die. Would it be fun for you? The analogy is that your goal is to PK lover level character, yet you can't because you always die.

No offense but your whole joy sounds very wrong and sick.

Its people like you that ruined Lineage 2 in the first place!! Are you not bored of doing the same ***, talking to the same people?

Less players make it easier for a game to decide to stop development and close down.

Your nothing but an ****hole and your need to go ***k your dead grandma!
Reds did not ruin L2.

Alot of things have made people want to quit L2, but being killed and stalked by high levels while leveling up isn't one of them. Else the same could be said for the many faction MMOs where low levels face off against high level campers. If anything L2 provided more recourse against PK players. In WoW you just had to accept the fact that RedRidge is off limits and go somewhere else.

Maybe in the beginning it was an issue, when soul-shots were expensive, porting was not an option, and there wasn't a single support feature in the game for new characters. Now? Too many areas to hunt, too many support features, gear is cheap, too much exp to stay that low for that long.
New player joins lineage 2...... Runs outside of starter village.... DEAD! (PK'd).... repeat last 3 steps........... player /ragequit
You extreme carebears kill me (no pun intended... cause I know you wouldn't)! No on said stand outside a starter town and kill a level 10 character over and over and over and over until the rage quit. That would be just as silly as silly can be, but I will advocate killing at will your enemies subs and alts and friends... even there friend's friends. Should spark a fire in the belly of someone on the verge of going carebare... you might help prevent it.

It only works until you change into your second class, so unless you have access to kickass gear right off the bat at level 40 anybody with B gear can still kick your butt in two or three hits.

The principle is the same; just because it's open PvP doesn't mean it's your duty to go and harass people, sure, it means it IS a cut throat world where you can't just talk garbage and troll unchecked. It means you have the chance to fight back anywhere outside of owns.

It really depends, I am one of Huggies victims, but Huggies stuck to Dion and on players within her level range, and it was memorable to have hunting parties to get her; that's nice player created content.

But going to starter villages (and TI was a favorite, since it was a pain to go and defend newbs) decked in top D, C or even B grade and one shot guys? what was memorable about that?
Really, if half the people hadn't been donkeys about it; we woud have never gotten the newbie protection buff; and at least now they can port somewhere else for free so they can actually level; pre C4 if you rolled human you had very few choices.

what I meant is: back then, this game was really like a second job; getting PKd for no reason DIDNT enhance your playing time, a lot of people left because of that AND the rampaging bots in starter towns.

I don't know if you joined the game in 2007, or just th eboards; if it was the game then you missed the couple of years when rampant random PK of anybody low level was an everyday thing; before you had a way to fight back effectively.

Hell thi sgame started with perma reds in BETA.

If you had ever experienced what dying in the world of Aden pre C4, then you wouldn't call that rage quit being "carebear"; just a couple of deaths could undo a week of grinding past level 40; pre 20 dying 4 or 5 times in a row could neglect your whole grinding day, pre 40 you could lose a couple of days of grinding.

This was pre free ports, pre blessed SOE, before noblesse, before boss jewels, before buffs to protect you; back then it meant something both to level up and to be killed, and deaths were harsher.

Imagine dropping your equipped weapon while white, back when you needed a couple of days of grinding just to buy a falchion. It was easier to just start a new toon and work your way up again, than trying to hunt with a newbie weapon again.

Playing "casual" back then meant you "only" played up to 6 hours a day; and it still took days to level up pre 40; how would you like to still lose a full 8% of your XP to PvP? Anybody who got ganked back then knows what it meant, and let me tell you, it WASNT FUN no matter how you slice it or try to justify it.

I mean, even serious PvP like sieges ended when people had died enough times and call it quits before it took too long to get the XP back.
I was around during beta and the first chronicle (before leaving till freya.. School and work, not disinterest) PK was rampant, especially in SoDA, but I never had any real problems gaining xp. I capped out at 20 in beta and made it to 30 easily after beta with wipe with reds everywhere. This game is huge... Simply look for a new hunting spot with the numerous resources you have both in and out of the game,(most of which were not around back then) just have fun and play along with the natural course of l2 and accept the fact that you are going to get pked a few times along the way. :D

QFT!

Seriously, I'm about as carebear as they come in this game and I enjoyed reds. They made grinding actually exciting. Plus, there were always high level toons available to call on for some payback.

To those of you that hate reds, did you ever chat with them? I don't mean sending QQ PMs to them but actually just chat? Most of the players behind those toons are pretty interesting. I made friends with several of them. Also, I've had some leave me alone after I PMed them saying how much fun I had.

Different strokes, I guess.

Thats the thing. It isn't different strokes.

Reds are no different then other lowbie gankers in other games. Of course you lose exp in L2, but that amounts to very little these days. Once upon a time with no buffs, no shots, and bad gear? yea 5-10% at lvl30-50 was pretty heartbreaking. Especially when a mob got last hit and you dropped gear when PKed.

Those days are long long long gone. Decent gear up to A is available straight from NPC, Buffs are free via town buffer and mob pots. Shots are the cheapest they've ever been. Vitality assures that no matter you playtime or hunting ground you'll be making half decent exp. Theres no excuse anymore for "the game is grind". The last vestiges of outdated design are being removed in GoD. The long arbitrary quest lines for class transfers, attunement quest, and what not.

WoW isn't dead because Horde liked to camp in Astranaar. Straw-man argument is straw-man.

Hmmm...Years ago..Maybe 3? Could have been 4 I was really terrible at levelling. I would get to around 40 and get tired of the Grind. So instead of levelling more I would start pk'ing around that level. Was always in bad gear. I didnt have much adena either. During this time the general population was well over 40 so the people I was pk'ing were normally alts. Needless to say I got my *** handed to me way more times then I won. It was all in fun and I enjoyed alot of conversations with people I killed/attempted to kill.

I guess Im just backing up Elro's side. He was very helpful to me back then in moving my gear around and providing me some buffs so I could go fight. It was probably the most fun I had playing this game. Best pvp for sure.

That's very different. Even in the very beginning, level 40 was a big milestone for most people; and killing people your level or 5 levels arund IS PvP even if you are PKing.

That's not what we talked about, we were talking about being level 40 and able to afford the port to Talking Island to gank on people level 10 and under SEVERAL TIMES OVER.

Stupid stuff like that is not memorable, it is sad; and it did drive people away from the game since if you contacted a GM to do something you were told (as it is) that this is a open PvP game; and that was it. Some people confused that with open license to gank noobs; and that ON TOP of all of the other problems drove people away.

The OP is suggesting people to go and gank noobs; possibly people that have never played an open PvP game, possibly NEW people to lineage 2; and make them rage quit.

Can't you see the stupidity in such a proposal? sure, let's drive new players AWAY from the game, now that it has a chance to prove itself again as the great game it STILL is. Let's keep the fame up that this is a ganker's game paradise.

I only have two memorable PK incidents from this game, that made me realize how awesome it is to have an open PvP setting:

-Huggies in Kain server, permared around the Dion area.
-A Clan that took over Cruma Tower swamp, PKing everybody who came near the site and hunted in the swamp (actually a group of roleplayers that decided to charge people real adena for the right to hunt, they even allowed unclanned peeps to join the enforcing team)

Key difference? In both cases the PKers were in a risky position that gave the gankees a fighting chance; Huggies retired a couple of years ago I think; and those guys from Cruma were obliterated a couple of days after they started when most of the server decided to kill them a couple of times.

It created strife and conflict, but in a constructive, memorable way. I doubt anybody woul dbe against that even if they are carebears.

PKing newbies is just plain weak.
dude, for years people would say "if you dont like it go play wow"

even in the face of mergers.

PKing was never an issue.
Can't you see the stupidity in such a proposal?

Not entirely. I cant say the thought didnt cross my mind, but I personally dont think I will have time for it. I feel like in the new expansion I will have alot to learn. So I doubt Ill join in this.

However I am a huge fan of people having the freedom to make this decision. I think it would be exciting to see some red's running around again. It also leaves open the option for players opposed to this idea the opportunity to smack around what they feel are the villians of the game. Also with the levelling being considerably easier then it use to be I would not think alot of people would rage quit. Maybe a few.
If you plan to go to slaughter noobs atleast have guts to make fresh character and level up with them and then strike with that char. If you can't beat your own level noobie after years of playing then you have done something wrong.

if you just take your high level character that cannot be killed by lvl 20 or lower characters to talking island and slaughter everyone you just give horrible image of community in game.

Few reds now and then indeed spices the boring grind, but only if you can do something to them. Getting just one shotted constantly isn't really thrilling.
I know getting to Gludin in the show up hill was hard back in the early days of beta… this isn’t beta. Look, we are not talking about killing newbies 5 years ago when it took a week to go from level 1 to level 5. We are talking about next week and we all know how easy it is to get to 75 these days. I know many of you have deep rooted emotional scars from your early days in L2 and you may never get past those nightmares, but this game is centered on killing everything (90% at the least). You level to get better at killing everything else in this virtual environment and yeah we can add some role playing poem reading weddings and picnics but we all should know the real deal by now.

This isn’t Kansas you know, Lineage II offers the world's elite MMO players a hardcore Player vs. Player experience… (http://www.lineage2.com/guide/new_l2.html)

no respect

This is not a sport... sportsman like conduct is not required.

this is just how it goes, back in the day we were the fresh ppl and got 1shoted by lv 40s or higher permas, now we just give the fresh ppl the same threatment we were given back in the past. this game isnt about flowers and what not, ppl that just play to chat with friends should rather registre at facebook over starting a game like this :D

Wonder how much fun all the pk'ers would have if they would get pked like 10+ times every 2nd day.

No rules are broken, next thing you will be telling me Knights went around planting flowers when they took a town... this is not Candyland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_Land) and we are not PKing Thumbelina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thumbelina).
It's not about breaking rules, it's about social behaviour.
Just tell me, is it fun if some ppl pk you over and over again and you have to go to town, rebuff, move to spot again every time?
Isn't it some kind of mobbing?

But i see you don't think social behaviour is needed in a game.
So let's end it with 2 different opinions.
they act like a zombie

someone eat my brain so i will eat another ones brain
I have never seen a person get PKed over and over and over and over and over. Each of my friends during these past several years was smart enough to get friends to help fight, find a different location or get better at fighting. Not one single of my friends ran right back to the player to be killed over and over... that would not be smart.

So, it comes down to players not being smart enough to keep from being killed over and over.

P.S. Ooops, I just remembered this one time out on alligator Island, we killed this one guy 1000+ times, for some reason he would just jump back up every time we resurrected him... no matter what kind. A few of us had to go back to town to get more scrolls. He never said anything.... just kept jumping up like we were his friends.
even in war you have rules..

that's pretty stupid behavior to let to be pked 10 times a day
even in war you have rules..

The only rule of war is to make more of the other side die and get your own *** home alive.

Look, everyone is making too big a deal about this. If you're really concerned about the newbies, take your own **** mains to Talking Island and police the reds. You should be able to kill them easily. Oh wait, that isn't a fair fight...
This is not a sport... sportsman like conduct is not required.

No but before it is PvP it is a social game

there are more tools to manage clans and alliances than there are PK tools.

Get a clue in; there is one reason permareds only have Fioran village to dwell in; even NCSoft designed permared as a BAD thing.

Else how come permared or tempored have such severe penalties and get reworked every chronicle to be even more burdening?

KILLING IS BAD AND WRONG, KILLING IS BA****.

The game is designed around alliances to overpower a common enemy, t is one beautiful diplomatic game wich has th ebloody war option as that, an OPTION. How did big clans come to control things? by being MORE and more powerful than all of their enemies.

Remember when top clans used to ally to farmer clans? And how that unholy alliance allowed them to control castles uncontested? why is dawn consistently the top side on the seven signs? diplomacy, not PKing at random.

A greater number of people go to one side, negating the enemies' firepower with numbers AND firepower; try to keep sounding elite and hardcore; killing is a mean to an end, not the end itself. You get to kill players in sieges and territory wars to get the benefits of controlling the land, not to prove anything in PK counts or PvP counts.

In a rather ironic twist, very soon the game turned from PvP centered to PvP heavy so you get enough buffs to PvE more effectively so you can PvP later more effectively so the PvE farming gets easier.

Player killing is a by product of the open PvP setting, not the only thing there is to do. Hell, playing the market is a more useful skill than PvPing, wich can be done by bots
The game is not designed to make you a better debater or master of diplomacy. A large majority (guessing 93.333% repeating of course) of the items in this game enhance your ability to kill.

Nothing more really needs to be said, the rest of the stuff is useless self-indulgent fluff. I can’t think of any game mechanic that enhances your chatting skill or brown noes buff. Even the social aspects in this game are designed to help you kill more efficiently.

Role players are going to role play no matter if Lineage 2 actually has that “feature” implemented within the design. Carebears are going to die outside of town and complain it isn’t fair killing them while they were reading poems during a picnic. Player Killers are always going to be the bad guys, without them there is no need to be good.

Wait a minute, I just figured this out!! I am role-playing a mass murderer with no social skills.

No, you are pretending to be a pvper on a forum when it's clear as day that you aren't.
Even a fully decked out, top 1% player knows better than to run their mouth all day on the forums because this game has a heavy social component to it, one which you blatantly ignore. Only people who hide all day on the forums and never pvp talk about pvp as if it is something they do on a regular basis. And no pvp worth their salt brags about griefing lowbies. It's embarrassing, and is the equivalent to bragging about being max level after botting. This whole thread is ridiculous.

As for your sarcastic math is concerned, no, the vast majority of items in game exist to help players kill monsters, not each other. For 85, soon to be 99, levels we fight monsters, not each other. Pvp is extremely limited, and nonconsentual pvp is heavily penalized. It always has been. There are, in fact, a very small minority of items that exist to assist in killing other players. Your insinuation is akin to me claiming I have a kitchen full of dangerous weapons when in reality I just have a few sharp forks and butter knives. If you actually played the game, rather than the forums, you would know this and wouldn't say something so ridiculous.

You are right... good job unmasking this pretentious fraud who assumes a love of killing for the sake of killing. Now we can go back to the game for some good ole fashion poem reading. I'm not sure why I am so misunderstood in this thread... I never claimed to be a great PVPer or that I live to kill those tasty newbies on Talking Island. I simply stated an opinion along the lines that player killing is alright and a suitable pass time for those whom wish to partake.

I never said if you want to role play a tree hugging elf (this is really funny because they originate from the mother tree) you couldn't do so or that you didn't have the right to scream out loud when you see a newbie PKed at the gates of Gludin. Let the unabated PKing begin!!

This quote clearly states "enhance your ability to kill", each of us has free will to choose what to kill.

TLDR: I like killing player characters... sometimes even my mates and I don't really care if you don't like me killing player characters.
Took my hawkeye out today and did a little pk'ing. Then later I got on my doombringer and protected some new players from reds at talking island. I have to say I enjoyed playing both the hero and the villian today.

ah forgot to add got rolled by a couple reds on a noob toon on windmill hill. Then I grabbed the protection buff. They were hitting me for about 5 minutes before they figured it out. I think I have seen every side of pk today. FUN!

welcome to the desert of the real
I concur that killing newbies is fairly lame -- but there is no point in whining about it either, it is regardless part of the game. Fact is, it teaches players to communicate with others and form groups to take the chaotic down. If you can't fight back by yourself, that's why they're party systems, clans, and alliances for when it becomes out of hand.

Take it as it is and quit taking it personally. Has nothing to do with social responsibility or moral values -- it just is. Float your own boat and don't worry about the stability of others -- reaching out too much only leads to your own disrupted equilibrium.

Edit: And quite honestly, back in the day on TI -- I actually had a lot of fun being PKed, because it normally lead to rather large hunting groups going out...well, huntin' wabbits.
Threads like these, and you people are surprised that new players want to start only with other new players.

The other new players will pk you also.

You will trashtalk from the ground, then wipe your tears and go back to grinding.

What difference does it make if its a new or old player pking?

so just exactly what does it mean to you, when i say this is a PVP game ? does that mean "lets hold hands in giran and sing songs" ?

you play this game to play against other people. dont understand how getting ownd is a bad thing?

See, this was always this game's problem.

It was advertised as an open PvP game, and people took it to mean "kill everybody all the time" when in fact, it's not.

Several people in this thread have said it: There are far heavier penalties for random PK than there are for hunting PvE; this gam eis PvE HEAVY with the option to engage in PvP anywhere.

Key word: OPTION. Unlike WoW where you can challenge to a duel and grief to no end; in L2 griefing, in fair conditions, only gets you killed.
Run your mouth, kill steal, scam, PK; the consequence is you are going to get hunted. THIS is the cool part of open PvP.

Also, this is a social heavy game; go ahead, start a new account, don't tell your guildies it's you, and be a general *** towards everybody, see how far it gets you.

And yeah, the "low level" cap has been lifted to around level 70; what used to be neccessary around level 45 you can now skip completely, so in a sense you can "solo" your way to the top; but still a lot of the real options while playing that enable you to PvP competitively are not available to you if you don't have social interaction or connections.

The game is designed around mass numbers of people PvPing, not individually PKing low level alts or newbs. If it was the second, there would not be a permared mechanic, or karma, or penalties for going permared. I think the fact going perma red and having to turn that permared an alt is escaping you; why would you have to turn a character into an alt with small playtime when it accumulates a bit of karma if the game encouraged it?

Oh I seem to remember, when red you can't enter ANY normal village or castle town, you can't buy stuffs form people or NPCs, unless you are already at end game, you get one shotted by village guards on sight, that would seem to me like the game designer DOESNT want me to go red for long periods of time.

Do you remember when you could buff monsters? And how it used to NOT turn you purple? and how very wuickly they made it so that if you buffed a monster even when not in combat, or if you healed/buffed a chaotic character you also got purpled? why do you think this happenned? Perhaps so there would be consequences to you choosing a side in an argument, or to prevent people from provoking other people into killing them and turning them red?

And to some other guy in this thread:

Sometimes you can't avoid getting PKed several times in a row, it's going to happen again when a ton of new players arrive, they just won't know better than to move somewhere else, because they won't know where this somewhere else IS.
Specially since the whole map will change; veterans know better than to aimlessly wander through the map, as sooner or later you will land somewhere with mobs 20 levels above you and very aggressive.

Thats the difference between PvP PK, and PK griefing: griefers will wait just outside towns, and engage newbies on their way out. A PK griefer will not wait somewhere in the middle of the map and wait for victims; that's why they are griefers.
The other new players will pk you also.

You will trashtalk from the ground, then wipe your tears and go back to grinding.

What difference does it make if its a new or old player pking?

Big difference? It will be other new players around their character level with similar gear and skills; not some ubergodly old permared char with superenchanted weapons wich they won't have the option to scratch.

Sup. Prepare to be hated by the Retail community because you have a voice of reason in this. Got this myself. Makes no sense. Never will.
Everyone just chill and stop all your save the poor newbies rants, this thread is not "get your lowbie griefers ready!!" it is get your Perma reds ready and there is a big difference. So go back to your hours of PVEing and leave the PVP to those forum fakers that indulge in the debating the art of fighting without fighting.

May the love of Einhasad keep your heart pure and your soul free of lust.
All the crying in this thread makes me wish I had a perma-red.
I don't want to frighten anyone but I created a new human toon and *GASP* there were reds running around TI!!!!

Then, when I got to Gludin, there were reds running around there as well!!!

Welcome to Lineage 2 RETAIL

Sup. Prepare to be hated by the Retail community because you have a voice of reason in this. Got this myself. Makes no sense. Never will.

Hmm I wonder why you don't feel like a part of the Retail community.. I just can't quite put my finger on it... hmm...
Not feeling like a part of the Retail community? Could be because you clowns label people like us as just "private server trash" without even putting any kind of thought process into it. According to you, I'm not a part of the Retail community. I'm just some ******* who's come from private servers who has totally not been playing and enjoying the same game you guys have been.

Yep, I must be a bad person. A real dirtbag.

With that kind of mentality, I'd rather not associate myself with the Retail community. I'd much rather say "yeah I come from p. servers" because saying that has a lot less backlash than saying "I've been on Retail for a while" because you guys seem to be very, very full of yourselves.

It's tiring. P. Server or Retail, it's both Lineage II. Both sides of the coin, people play because they enjoy the game. Maybe for different reasons. You cannot hate on that. But, you do, and it's sad.

???

80% of the L2 retail community came from private servers. Your only difference is that you are a newbie here, and a very self-assured one. You came from a different game and you think that this one is all the same because it looks similar. While in fact it isn't.

For example, let's see your view on the new servers. It looks like you suppose that the new servers will behave exactly like private servers after a wipe. While everyone who spent enough time at retail and saw how those servers actually behaved knows that it's not the case.
i dont get this permared-thing on lowbies. Go permared on someone in your own lvl instead. Open pvp? Its NOT pvp when you PK a lowbie...

Or you cannot fight someone in your own lvl?

Actually this *is* PvP. Fair or unfair, it's PvP.

Now, I only played a couple of hours yesterday on that new toon (where I said I saw several reds). You know how many times I died to them? Zero.

Yes there will be a lot of PKers around. If you get killed repeatedly by them, you are stupid. There I said it.

Word.
http://www.lineage2.com/en/game/patch-notes/goddess-of-destruction/olympiad-and-pvp/pvp-and-reputation.php

Well, officially? PK = superbad; ganking = ultrabad. PvP encouraged but you decide if you take the risks.

Now more than ever, permareds will be nothing more than piñatas to take their items from.

For those who can't bother to go check the link:

The Karma system has been removed from the game, and the Reputation system has been added to replace it. The Reputation system is a sliding scale in which positive levels make a character Lawful, and negative levels make a character Chaotic.

Chaotic characters:

A character is Chaotic when that character’s Reputation level is negative.
A Chaotic character’s name appears in red.
Every PK a Chaotic character performs gains that character a negative Reputation point.
When hunting and completing quests, Chaotic characters do not gain XP or SP, but they do gain Reputation points. This is the only way Chaotic characters can gain Reputation points. When a character is no longer Chaotic (when that character’s Reputation level reaches zero), hunting and completing quests give XP and SP but not Reputation points.
If a Chaotic character dies, that character’s Reputation points are not affected.
If a Chaotic character has a PK count of 31 or higher, the character receives an item drop penalty. As part of this penalty, augmented weapons will drop without the augmentation.
When a Chaotic character dies, that character loses more XP than a non-Chaotic character does.

Lawful characters:

A character is Lawful when that character’s Reputation level is positive.
When a Lawful character’s Reputation level is above zero, that character’s name appears in green.
When a Lawful character kills a Chaotic character, the Lawful character’s Reputation level increases by 360 points.
When a Lawful character kills a character who is 10 or more levels below the Lawful character, no Reputation points are gained even if the character killed is Chaotic.
A Lawful character can only receive Reputation points for killing the same Chaotic character once in any 8 hour period.
If a Lawful character’s PK count is 30 or lower, that character’s Reputation level will become zero if the character PKs again. At zero, a character is neither Lawful nor Chaotic.
If a Lawful character’s PK count is 31 or higher, that character will immediately become Chaotic and the character’s Reputation points become negative proportionally to PK count.
Characters who wish to lower their PK count can do so by spending Individual Fame points at a Reputation Manager NPC. The former method of lowering PK count through the Repent Your Sins quest has been removed from the game.

The arena for Duels and Party Duels has also changed.
i have some good news for pkers: bound items dont drop at least in current version of GoD which we will get ;-)) so u can have ++ drac set / bow w/ attribute and feel free to pk

and yes, new pk system is really bad: some1 comes to ur spot, steal ur mobs and drops and dont flag back. what will u do? i gona take out my permared
so an 86 awakened char in all bound armor, weapon, jewels, will basically be impossible to pop?

Expect that to change rather quickly.

to the othe rposter; yeah if you don't mind not being able to level; as far as I have checked bound gear can't be turned into PvP gear, and can't go as high in enchants.

Check the notes again: if you are red you are going to get very tasty for Other people around your level, even if they don't get reputation from you if within 8 hours; a couple of times bringing you down to 0% exp would be fun even if you don't drop gears; free reputation you see.
yes. prolly u can zerg it, but i doubt.

was pretty funny to watch how zerg of ppl were trying to kill red awakened tank. there was a campaign in dark elf village, so almost everybody tried to hit him at least once. no result :-))

actually pre-awakened character w/ Iss buffs is really hard for toon of his lvl but w/o Iss buffs.

if u didnt notice. we were talking about permareds. there is a big difference between toon which is done specially to pk or toon u play on regular basis for common ingame things.

NCSoft killed pk system as a part of everyday game life. but still we can have our permareds

Oh I'm sure people will try; I mean, NC has tried for years to make them unappealing and I know for a fact there are very few permareds in the korean servers (as in: reds just to grief, they do have their assassins tough... or they go PK in real life and boink your head on the keyboard if you step out of line) and this is an euro/american thing.

What GoD will try to accomplish is making permared harder to sustain; I guess it won't end until you get a debuff proportional to your PKs and inability to send/receive mail/buffs use certain items; and people will still try to be a "bandit".

I was just trying to bring into attention the fact permareds are an anomaly that NCsoft never intended to exist. But over here it looks that each and every nerf PKs get is a badge of some kind of distorted honor among the playerbase.
And by the way, once upon a time we did have an use for permareds; we used them to kill botters and there were a couple famous players that did nothing but kill bots in the dark ages.

what the OP called for, was to go grief newbies; wich was, and still is, pretty weak.

My own Permared bot killer was lost in the server mergers (and it was mostly permapink).
OK, for all of us that have Perma reds lets join to forces and reign over the F2P newbies that brought this plague upon us.

A Clan of characters with nothing to loose and nothing to gain.
true it doesnt require you to kill 7 million X's before a proper straight line of O's can be made.

lol

ah, so it was YOU who played those O's against me eh?
OK, for all of us that have Perma reds lets join to forces and reign over the F2P newbies that brought this plague upon us.

Well, you' ll certainly lose time. I tend to think that time is valuable.

Lol, reminds me of a time way back. There was a guy that used to PK me everytime I was XP'ing out near DE village. I swear it took me 6+ months to get out of the area due to him PK'ing me, and everyone else in the area constantly. He was prob lvl 30 :). Anyways, I ran into him a few years later. He had de-redded his toon, and I saw him running along near Gludio. I started chatting with him about the old times when he used to PK everyone. He was saying how he felt bad about it and that he was wanting to start playing without PK'ing anyone. Anyways, the tables had turned and I was alot higher level then him. He never made it back to town, was the most fun I had going red on anyone :).

Anyways, its one of the struggles most of us dealt with when we started, and it gave you the urge to go out and XP like crazy for years trying to make sure you were safe the next time a red was running towards you when you were out of town.
You know... I used to get more aggravated by high levels pking low levels. Now I just really shrug and go back to town and start again.

It's SO easy to get to 40 nowadays that it makes no difference. You can't delevel either. Back in C3 when I joined, I had a fit, because it was so hard to level that the perspective of getting back to grinding to get the XP loss got me so badly that I almost quit several times. The worst was when I was leveling my Dark Wizard and had JUST afforded a full set of D grade stuff, when my ring dropped when I was PKEd, and I never found it again. That was heartbreaking *nod nod*

Hey, I'm a carebear girl. Carebears are cute. Only Pandas are cuter. But I think I'm becoming violent. Several times I ALMOST went red on my leveling chars just so I could kill idiots that were KSing my quest mobs and even when asked politely (yes, because I am polite!), they told me to "screw" myself" and kept on ksing my mobs and laughing.

Yes. I'd have loved a perma-red then.

I guess I'm getting violent indeed, as I actually KILLED one of those idiots. He flagged though. My initial idea was not to bother with him, but /targetnext targets flagged players... so I nuked him once. He started trying to kill me. He was dead in a few hits.

Bottom line, he didn't come back to harass me again.

So yeah... permareds. Pity the real use for them would be in some daily areas where people act like morons and deserve to die...
the problem with this is that pk system is not documented enough. patch notes only have basic information. for example i accidentally became pk and had to go wash it off in a desolate place, well i tried to kill this char with a white alt and he did not receive any rep.

this means there are much more rules that they show, thus you may face many surprises when applying this idea in practice.

i think it's very likely that pk drop chance increases with bigger pk count

and now that you can not reduce pk count easily, you will have to pay more and more for the equipment on those pk. you can't really avoid dying forever.

also i am not sure but there seem to be a rule about griefing in eula so they might just ban you after all the great work you did to make that 99 lvl perma red party going.

and i will reiterate -- if you love pk so much, why play this carebear game? EVE online has greap pvp/pk system where you can benefit from being pk and has great community of like minded individuals who love pvp and pk. the heaven for you. why stay in hell? or the other way around if you prefer that.

If this was on Bartz back in the day in prelude, there was a human who would pk me he had dual swords. Out of nowhere he would come and kill me over and over and over. I never made it past 19 on that toon.

Was on Bartz, back in the day, but was a DE Archer that hung around DE village
i have some good news for pkers: bound items dont drop at least in current version of GoD which we will get ;-)) so u can have ++ drac set / bow w/ attribute and feel free to pk

and yes, new pk system is really bad: some1 comes to ur spot, steal ur mobs and drops and dont flag back. what will u do? i gona take out my permared

I can confirm that.
143 PK -3.5kk reputation never dropped bound items. I guess I will have an Awakened mage perma red for ksers.
OK, for all of us that have Perma reds lets join to forces and reign over the F2P newbies that brought this plague upon us.

A Clan of characters with nothing to loose and nothing to gain.

and everyone you kill can thank NCsoft for thier wonderfull new PK system............
Why do you not simply ask for help instead of complaining. Lineage is and has always been about combining group influence be it political/Braun through open diplomacy with others that have the same values and goals ingame. Get in a clan that can protect you through your younger years, its simple. I never had a problem because I understood this lesson early on. This is what clans are worth their gold in because it provides protection in tern you become stronger and then help the weaker - the cycle goes on.

While reading this great post a tear ran down my face. I read it again but this time I played this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX07j9SDFcc) along as my eyes consumed the words once again.

This post is my choice for the day as best in category.

omg I LOLED. +1 my friend.
So, at the end of the day what I need is a character full bound items to be PK for solving situations, and my main character to pretend been a good boy?

If thats the way I choose an ISS enchanter for PK solving problems. Someone accused me for having a pk character... I think that someone just gave me a great idea...
Cool story dudeee
I was accused of having a pk character the other day. I thanked him for noticing, and gave him a recommendation. :)

I look forward to how PK'ers will react when Glory Days gets here and they run the risk of dropping up to 5 items when killed.

You failed to see all the positives included in what should be called the Glory Days of PKing or Return of the Pkers update.

Yes, you could have up to 5 items destroyed, I have already lost multiple items in a single death, not a big deal with all the free stuff around. Plus, there is no mention of the Event items being included in the items destroyed.

Now for all the positives that actually take us back to the way the old system functioned. Yep we have come full circle and what a fun ride it has been.

A chaotic character’s reputation decreases significantly if the character’s PK count is 4 or more

A numerical method has been added to increase reputation: Chaotic characters can gain reputation, XP and SP by killing monsters

Through death chaotic characters can lose the negative reputation; XP loss upon death cannot be regained

Positive reputation is gained by killing chaotic characters

Daily Quest to reduce PK count: 'Chain Attached to your brothers' (Sin-Eater) has been added.
perma red toons are worthless players and i have np bangin em down on my 98 main if they across my path

what most of u guys fail to understand no1 back in the days was perma red on players, but on bots.
i couldnt care if one pk's some1 for a reason but *****'s loggin a ALT to pk some1 sure id kill u if some1 pm's me ;)

Kinda ironic that a "farmer killer" has the prophet on auto, no?

Or she just match movement like that?

So pro lol.

Couldnt see the name of it in 240 graphix though
This PKer is only a perma-red due to the system in which I operate. I love all the posts from "Crusaders" like Redman bragging about killing with their "high level" mains. Ironically, this is identical to the behavior demonstrated by the dreaded Player Killers. Additionally, these self-proclaimed "Saviors" think PKers actually care if they are killed, LMAO. I enjoy being hunted by a pack of peasants or even when a “Savior" is beckoned to the pursuit. This is the part of the role... part of being chaotic.

On a much deeper facet of all this PKing, the emotional breakdown displayed by so many players after being killed by PKers is priceless.

Death in Lineage 2 is not real, there is no loss, there was no pain, it is part of the game and you can continue killing defenseless Mobs after recovering from the virtual death I lay upon you.

pking isnt what it used to be though.you get a much harsher penalty from pking from what ive looked at then you did back before godess of destruction

sucks to,Lineage 2 is all about pvp.so why punish people by making it harder

Since when is PK'ing considered PvP? Anybody who thinks PK"ing charcaters is PvP has no idea what the concept of Player vs Player is all about.

PK and PVP are two different things. Too low penalty for PK will fill the servers with gankers, people will get tired of being grieved. You will not be able to find any ISS, tank or healer and you ll leave also and within months the game can go empty.

There are many opportunities to PVP, the war system for one allows for endless pvp until u get so sick of it that you want no more. And no, L2 is just as much about character building (PVE) as it is about PVP. Imo its more PVE, as the strength of a char lays in the strength of his equipment and level.

This link is worthess considering the game has changed in one update called Goddess of destruction. Game is a party game now, all buffers in one, and less members in a party.
PKing actually by definition is PVP (player vs player), since it's not a mob being killed. It's just a little more unbalanced if done by way of ganking a much lower lvl player. To be honest, I can understand the frustrations of the unsuspecting noobs...the anger of the unwary equal level toons, that weren't paying attention to the monitor because they feel they're high enough lvl that they won't be messed with...the player with the boxed ISS on auto-follow not noticing his buff pet just got PK'd, as I follow behind for a few moments until he starts name calling, then I kill him too. It's just so darn fun!!! This game's all about fighting....for crying out loud, we all have weapons in our hands! LOL! So, go ahead, get angry, get mad, form a posse....do you think PKers don't like being attacked back? LOL that's what it's all about...the thrill of the hunt, the ensuing chase to follow.....It's just freakin' awesome, and a hella break from grinding, I highly recommend it. ;)

PK penalty? What's that? Like I ever want to bring back a perma red? LOL!

And still, remarkably... as if by magic, you can still run around and pk farmers and elitists.

I call Shenanigans!!!!

Every PK'er I've ever seen are cowards when it comes to fighting back. That's why 99% of PK'ers are gankers, not fighters. When I'm on a sub or alt in some level 60 area and see that mighty, fully red, awakened character boucing through looking for a so-called "fight", I just keep doing what I'm doing and take the hit. Then I praise the p**sy for displaying the necessary battle prowness and skill it must take to use a nuclear weapon to kill a chipmunk. I then suggest that they may want to try Cruma tower later if they truly want some real competition.

I even had an 85+ guy on Magmeld tell me a few days ago that he killed people in low areas to attract awakened characters to kill. I said, if you want to know where the awakened characters are, I'll draw you a map. Of course, he didn't want any of that. I mean, where's the fun in attacking people that you possibly can't kill? There's no thrill in a good fight in L2, and it hasn't been for an extremely long time.

WWW
This brought a smile to my face.

Player killers: everyone hates them, so why do they do it? Maybe being hated is why they do it? But who wants to be hated?

Well there are several reasons why they do it, but first we'd better pin down just what is meant by the term itself. Player killer is something of a misnomer, in that:

no players are killed - it's their characters who are killed.
very few characters are actually killed - most escape in time.
it's possible to kill another character and yet not be a "player killer".

Of these points, the first seems just a question of pedantic semantics. I suspect the term (which is understood by players of most internet muds) was invented by relative newbies who didn't understand the difference between a player (person at keyboard) and character or persona (person in game). Newbies are most likely to be outright killed if they get attacked. They're also quite vocal, because they don't know how enough of mud culture to behave properly, so their use of the term would quickly become the dominant one. That's not the whole story, though. Although the character is killed, it is indeed the player who feels the loss - and this can be very painful. I have felt physically ill from losing a character to the sword of another player - it's somehow far worse than losing it to a mobile, which seems more like it's your own fault. So the thing to note from this is that player killers ("pks") really can make an assault on the player, using the character as some kind of emotional conduit. read more... (http://www.paxlair.com/library_files/1_in_progress/player_killers_exposed/player_killers_exposed.htm)

Just like everyone playing L2, not all Pkers are the same and they all have their reasons for a chaotic lifestyle. I can still remember banding together in Dion, several years ago, to go out hunting a Perma-Red that was killing numerous "characters" just outside of town. We were all excited to get this Red, which had most likely killed all of our characters a couple of times in the past days. I don't recall any of us complaining the character was OP or a coward, it was just another challenge in this great game.

Now I am pretty sure no perma-red is running from a fight, I'm normally running to the next target. Keeping in mind finding quick kills is the majority of my time in game. I don't know why any PKer would BSOE away from another player their equal or even those many levels above... there is no point cause no XP lost, nothing but virtual trash if any is dropped.

Granted I am not looking for a fair fight or a beat down from multiple players... but you have to agree it is much quicker PKing alts and subs verses mains, unless that main is a lowbie new to the world.

Best advice when PKed, don't take it personal... PKers don't. If you respond with QQing, insults or name calling your overreaction makes it even more enjoyable.
You have to love pkers, they bring about one of the game's most prominent, and exciting elements, drama!
Lower levels are nice targets simply because of the quick kill...I'm sure some only kill lows, so whatever...I get more of a feeling of accomplishment killing the same grade as myself...but ill gladly take what's available from Floren where i start, all the way to the swamps etc. Now on my lower lvl reds, I hang around more populated areas (rod, wastelands, etc) until the mighty "main" comes and puts me in my place lol....i never run, but rather give them a "gg", or if they speak English ill even chat for a bit. Some get it, others don't.
I was a time struggeling to do Barakiel for noble quest, and finaly we did it, and gm said, aa we need a wipe on the server, that' s why we don t have population..After we work hard on 1x.

Then we did team of pk, we waited new ppl at goblins, then everywhere, in 1 month the server was closed.

On another server i heard is forbithen pk i laugh and join, i was farm at ev, then like 2 3 chars begin to farm in my spot i pk some pvp some.all dead.

Then gm came said is not legal bla bla, when he left the guys come again,i pk them to the last one, then i was ban, till the pk was legal on server, then i join again and killed everybody :D

Make funny screens pls with qq of the one dead.

You make the game awsome, i can t wait to join the blood hunt.

May the shillien godess protect you great red ones.
LoL....I'm liking your style ;)
