Hi guys, I've been reading up and trying to figure out why i can't log-in and you seemed willing to help in other posts. Before i get too far ahead of myself i'd like to mention that i've never played a private server but am interested in playing casually again.
I got my accounts saying playable and i was even willing to pay for he first month this close to kickoff to familiarize myself with the game again before GOD patch goes live. There isn't an option for that, just nc coins. Is the game free to play now or not until after the 30th? The reason i ask is that i cant seem to get past the load screen even though my accounts say they are playable.
I dusted off my old copy of L2 and installed it. I ran the original L2 updater. Got stuck on log in screen waiting so i started reading some forum posts. I then deleted game guard and got the NC Launcher and did the Repair. Same result. I deleted my original installation of L2 and got the NCsoft Launcher to DL the complete game for me. Same result.
I then made a change to my hosts file as i understood from a post. not sure. Tried again. Same result.

I did notice that the game got installed into the NCsoft launcher folder instead of by it's self in program files. Feel free to talk to me like i know nothing cuz it's obvious i don't. I would really like to play again. Oh yeah, and i don't know where i could find out if i have High5 installed because i figured that would be part of the Ncsoft launcher update.

Replaced the host file with the one cantjump posted but still same result.
NoOne mentioned deleting the entire hostfile or just the stuff inside it. I am not sure

delete it at all....nothing will happen
also try to start the game w/o other games that use a program like GG and try to disable antivirus
I went to windows security center and saw that the firewall was on for the LAN settings. Unchecked those boxes and loaded the game up and logged in fine. Thank you all for taking the time to help.

AHA! What was happening was that your firewall was waiting for you to allow L2 to access your "network", that's why when you turned it off it allowed access, re enable it and tab out when it stalls again and you should see a window from your firewall asking about access.
