Just out of curiousity, when discussions would come up about going free to play there were alot of protests and people saying they would quit if that were to happen. So Im just curious how everyone is holding up now that it has actually happened. This is not intended to flame anyone or put anyone on the spot. Just cursious how everyone is doing.
Do you still intend to quit under the new model?
Did you quit already? (Suppose you could still post here if you happen to be reading.)
I personally am excited to see all the new players and would like to take a minute to welcome them all to the game, even if they are coming over from private servers. It's nice to see a large amount of people enjoying the game.
So how's everyone doing? New guys feel free to add your 2 cents to the conversation to.

Feel the same, but also would like to ask old players to go to lower towns and give some of your precious adena(potions, enchants etch) to new players, you won't believe how thankful some of them are ;)
I gave one some pk protection. Then I gave another a few arrows in the ***. I just depends how Im feeling at the time. None the less Im happy they are here.

I will preface this by saying I am a pve player, not pvp.
I am glad for the free to play & have been lvling up a new BD
since L2 went ftp.
These last few days, since L2 went ftp, it seems alot of these new players have no clue how to tell if a spot is taken & move on.
or they just dont care.
Its too bad too, I am a person who would usually help out new players
& I usually have a high lvl buffer around that I can use to buff new players around me, but if they take over my spot im in....then no buffs 4 them. :)
ok, all of you pvp players can chime in now, yell at me & call me a carebear. lol
The real "carebear" to me is a pvp'r who cant pvp without a 3rd party program.
since L2 went ftp.

I have noticed this myself. I dont know what all changes are coming to the game but if people are grinding in giants cave late 70's early 80's after the expansion it should make for some interesting fights in there when everyone levels up.
before i used to play on lol privates which is bad... privates just dont give the same experience... noob players, constant wipes and etc... at the same time lineage lineage didnt seem to be worth paying money i mean when u think what will happend if u gonna have to leave one day? it would be a waste of money... also low online count scared me off a bit. so now when it is free to play i am sure that i will finally enjoy it and i will donate for sure just to say thnx to ncsoft for making this thing happen.

This is the misconception of l2, NO 1 owns an area, this is why pvp was so massive back in the day at places like AL, MOS, IT. It's because if I want to fight some where I will, you call it being rude or a noob, but I call it part of the game. If I want to level in the this game I better be prepared for anything and that means pvping over an area. Not pvping is the true noob, the person who just pves. This game is one of the most pvp games out to date, and it's why I love it. Either fight or move on...
Used to be a p2p player. Actually the game feels really alive, its exciting to see a lot of people around. For me, an excelent move from NCSoft. And welcome everyone !!

agreed. Best decision they could have made. The population of L2 was slowly shrinking. This just made it ramp back up.
At the time it was announced I didn't care at all, all I wanted was GoD and I wasn't even playing at the time or had an active account. I have played once since it went free-to-play... I am still waiting for GoD to actually get back in to the game.
I have noticed this myself. I dont know what all changes are coming to the game but if people are grinding in giants cave late 70's early 80's after the expansion it should make for some interesting fights in there when everyone levels up.
It's the "WoW" effect, there is no penalty for being a ****** so most players are, they forget that in L2 they can and will be killed by others at any time for any reason, I bet once it starts happening a lot they will be here crying about it
Basically if you are grinding in an area and someone comes up to take it... defend it. If you can't defend it then you didn't deserve it. Just remember though if you are the one taking the spot you're not just messing with one person. And retail clans defend their own with a ferociousness that private servers never knew.
Politics also actually play a major part in high level pvp on retail where private servers never had or knew politics.
Don't think that just because you have a buffer with you I'm worried about if you buff me or not. I level multiple chars on Lionna back in the day with no buffs and half the time no ss or sps. Please don't think that your buffer means **** to me.
If you consider yourself a "pve" player then this is not the game for you. This game was built and made for pvp. It's pvp system is truly open unlike any other game. If you're not willing to pvp to defend yourself then you're playing the wrong game.

When I came back about 2 months ago I got angry leveling in Alligator Island...Right before I would kill a mob I would get pk'd.....after several times of this happening "Im stubborn I know.." I snagged a group, geared myself to the teeth and went on a pk spree...We cleared out the area and leveled for 2 hours...Until being forced out by a BIGGER group. :) Extremely fun. :)

The only way to "quit" f2p is to get banned :D

They already did. Looks like the average IQ of a forum post dropped by 20 points once the game went f2p.
Sort of... It can be a PvP game but it is very heavy on the PvE aspect. You can go your entire career without getting involved in PvP.
If you go your entire L2 career without ever getting involved in pvp you never left town. someone at some point will flag on you and you will either be forced to run or fight. If you somehow miraculously did manage to avoid even getting a single person to flag on you in 6 years and never pvp'd then you missed out on 90% of the game's design. It IS a pvp game and CAN be a pve game.

Really? How do you level without PvE? You can PvP. You must PvE.
deDrako, admittedly I haven't played retail since I was banned in C5 and went on to private servers, but in what way are there no politics on privates compared to retail? And defending players...
On any private server I've played, one clan has a party at say MoS (Varka/Ketra or HS would be better), so an enemy clan makes a party, goes and kills them, then waits around expecting them to come back and basically it escalates and you PvP back and forth for an hour just over one side trying to prove they are better than the other. Same with leveling up in GC/LoA farming A grade mats...There usually isn't much point in PvPing at FoG, cause it's just gonna be some boxed party with de-tagged buffers, ressers and summoners.
Same with politics over sieges, olympiad and RB PvP, trying to find enemies gathering to do some class based feeding and interrupt them, making or breaking alliances over sieges and raids, hacking in to enemy forums, using alts to try and get recruited into enemy alliances, etc...it all went on in private servers too.
I don't think privates were better than retail, but I can tell you I played for over a year on a C5 private server that had a higher population than Chronos does now, and in that time I didn't see one bot and had a much better experience than I ever did on Bartz or Sieg...Got to play L2 the way it was meant to be played, which is something I never did on retail since Prelude-C1 time.
Really? How do you level without PvE? You can PvP. You must PvE.
well obviously you have to kill mobs (pve) to level you moron. But your'e saying that you can play the game for 7 years without ever flagging or having someone flag on you?... That's just stupid. This game was designed to be able to openly pvp anywhere except for towns. The game was not designed to spend all your time instancing to kill one boss after another to get all your gear like WoW. The game was designed to be able to pvp from low levels all the way to max. If you really think you're level 85 and going to be able to go sit in an area killing mobs without anyone bothering you then your'e sorely mistaken.
Every game is a pve game if you look at it in the fact that you must kill mobs to level. But games are designed as pvp games and pve games... Lineage 2 was designed as a pvp game.

There is a difference between private server and retail server politics. On countless private servers I've seen alliances fall apart because 2 members got into a ******* contest. On retail if that happened both clan leaders would tell them to sit down **** and quit being emo.
On private servers I've seen people who would pk anyone they saw regardless of level or standing even if it was their own ally. Well on retail most of the time if you pk your ally even on an untagged permared char that they know is you you're out of the clan and kos to the entire alliance.
Im not the one that said I would quit so Im not sure how its accomplished. :P
I suppose you have the option of not logging in.
There was a guy, RumPunch I think it was always said he would be here until the last server is closed. Where did that guy go?

I've never seen either of those happen on server's I've played on...But I understand there were hundreds (possibly more) of privates servers, some worse than others.
In any clan I've seen PKing a member would be a pretty big deal, one of them would end up kicked. One time a guy in my clan kept bugging people to PvE farm instead of PvP they were doing, as a joke we summoned him to a gank party we had at FoG telling him that it was a mage group for PvE, instead it was to the middle of Lavasaurus when we had Shadow dance. We all lol'd but he got pretty ******, even though we gave him a Brez, ended up causing a lot more drama than it was worth ;)

Your point is that to get to where you can "effectively pvp" at high levels you have to pve and level up. I understand that point. My point is that this game was designed for pvp not for pve.
This game isn't WoW where all your gear comes from instance leveling. Gear comes from mob grinding and quest grinding to get key mats to craft what you want. To be able to do this from time to time you have to pvp to get those areas and claim them as your own. Obviously I get your point but I disagree with the way you're going about saying it.
Basically if you are grinding in an area and someone comes up to take it... defend it. If you can't defend it then you didn't deserve it.

lol...game is not for me....right...lol
I have been faithful here on retail playing my way for over 7 years.
You talk about L2's pvp system, well, I like L2's pve system, better than
WoW, Lotr, & anything else out there, so no...I am playing the right game.
There is no right or wrong way to play L2....pve or pvp.
The difference is most pve'rs can respect other players & a difference
of play style, whereas most pvpr's just dont give a care about anyone else.
No, im not willing to give pvpr's the satisfaction.
if they want to kill me & go red....go ahead, I will get more out of it
making them have to work off karma & maybe drop gear than they will
out of making me lose a few %. lol
You have fun playing L2 your way, & I will have fun playing it my way :)
Have no problem with F2P, wondered why they didn't do it sooner. Seen it work on private servers, past administration issues.
No problem with NC selling items either. From the time people bought eminence bows in C1 for 100 dollars. Can't police personal behavior. People will trade money for time in every game, and to be honest there is little you can do about it. Even Blizzard is conceding that fact, implementing company sponsored RMT programs in their games.
Personally the way I look at it is if you made an account or paid for an account back in p2p, either way, its your account play it how you want. Personally IDC, I really dont see the new servers doing well. It will be filled up with private server players, which in time will get bored and the population will shrink. Chronos isnt going anywhere, might as well stay here.
lol dont worry, I wont buff you. I obviously was not talking to the type of L2 player you are.

the nice thing about the spots I xp/farm at at 85+ allows me to train anyone dumb enough to try KS me and they will die or if strong enough to handle the mobs (highly doubtful) can flag back and then die as yes this is still a pvp game :)
the fact there will be more competition for the top xp spots is a reason for old players to reactivate their 85+ chars just to gank those spots, anyone remember the old daily mass pvp at HB etc. ?
btw this shouldn't mean that much to the "new" players as no way they will catch up to us that fast that it will actually matter for them.. aka not likely many 85+ chars will bother to gank xp spots for ppl below 80 or the like..

Those are not politics. This is mindless kill spree :D The real politics are before your clan leader pushes WAR button and before your buddies will use Ctrl ;)
You don't get castles like that here. The victory is determined by actions that clan leading team have made even two weeks before. That plus organization and a bit of luck :p

Haha. That reminds me this guy that tried to steal spot in LoA. He though *I will deal with them without a problem*. His face must have been something like this  when an SWS 2 shotted him :D
I wonder how many pvp's we will get on our dualclasses
deDrako may be a little choosy with his words, but what he says is absolutely correct. I can tell that he gets the point. You people just refuse to accept said point.
Every PVP game requires PvE to reach your goals. Discarding this, just like he said, the endgame is built either around PvE or PVP. Lineage II is clearly built around PVP and politics more than PvE. People do not gear up and choose to get better so they can kill a particular Raid Boss just for the sake of killing it on this game. No, the grand majority do it with a PVP purpose in mind. Better up, get superior gear and skills, kill particular Raid Boss, get jewels, all in the name of being better at PVP. Not being better at PvE.
Very few occasions do people want these things to specifically PvE with, as it's usually too much hassle to get in the name of PvE. PVP is a higher standard because it's an infinite resource. PvE may have an end, but there's always going to be someone to fight.
Lineage II embraces this by offering players total open-PVP. Most games can't say this. There are not specifically predefined allies or enemies. Everyone is fair game or everyone is a friend waiting to happen - it's up to you and you alone.
That said, most people choose to fight. At heart, this is a PVP game. What he said about Private Servers is also correct. Mostly a bunch of kids who don't know **** and can't take the heat and split over silly reasons. This is one reason why I'm interested in playing Retail and can't wait for the new server to drop. I hope to see more sturdiness involved with things like this, but I digress. This is not the point.
The point is that you're missing the point that you claim another person is missing when in reality the only person who doesn't get the point is you.
lol ***** people back on topic. Anyhow, as a p2p player of 6 years im happy to see all the new players. I think the worst thing that has hit the game and these forums are the vets that are snide, arrogant, and a bunch of l33t *******s, that are giving the p2p people a bad name. We have a growing playerbase and those that troll these forums to bash the new ppl and talk about how l33t they are, should just log off and get back to working for the gear you think will put you on top so you can bs more.
as far as i concern this will be beneficial for everyone (mostly for NCsoft) but for these old players that made their way during the p2p era this just means more competition in every aspect of the game, not just because the newcomers but also for all these players that will come back once again to play here... and that only means more pvp for the pvpers and more ppl to hang for those who like to do the role play thing.
I'm more a pvper person ... but for those like me all the random pvp will be reduced to our lvl areas due the obvious lvl/gear gap. However that doesn't mean that we wont be able to do any better than any old clan/ally already settled on this servers since there's a LOT and i mean a lot of players and clans that know their thing despite if they have or not played in retail before.
Most of the people who made their way on private servers (like me) have played in low and high rates, so many of us know exactly what to expect and what to do, and those factors like politics and random shenanigans are not exclusive of retail and i'd find really funny if some1 pretends to be l33t just because he paid to know something that maybe another player could've reached in less time in a random private server.
Once i said this, i think is all matter of catch up and see how's the server going ... i personally like to see who are the e-thugs around and in what lvl are pussified the actual population , the amount of pvpers, role players or carebears, see how far u can go with the drama in the forums, since most of the private servers population is really used and love the flaming sections.... etc etc.
From reading the thread it looks like generally people are positive.
Im not sure about the great pvp debate going on. Its pretty simple. If you want to pvp hold down the control key. No debate ir discussion to be had there.
You couldnt be more wrong. Yes pvp is fun as hell and yes it becomes more and more nessassery as you get higher in lvls, but you will get knowhere without pve. This arguement has gone on for 6 years now. for the last 3-4 years the first 60 then 70 and now 80 levels pvp is a non issue except territory wars and sieges. Once you are 80+ people think they can now go around and excert their will until they realise that they are still a non issue against all the ++++++++ over enchanted armor weps and skills. People will and do spend the majority of time grinding xp (pve) until they reach the point of being competative and sometimes that never happens.
Hopefully the influx of new players will continue and I am sure there will be alot of low lvl pvp as people fight for hunting spots. I also believe there will be alot of higher lvl pvp defending these new players. hopefully there will be alot of pvp fun. But in the long run this game is a pve game with open pvp in it.
deDrako may be a little choosy with his words, but what he says is absolutely correct. I can tell that he gets the point. You people just refuse to accept said point.

Lineage II - Endgame PVP > Endgame PVE
I totaly agree the goal in end game is to be able to kill the player in front of you. I just disagree with L2 being a pvp exclusive game as some suggest. the majority of time in L2 is spent pveing to improve you chances at pvp and for (I would say a majority of people) is not often except during TW and sieges. The higher you get the more pvp happens but most still spend more time at pve than pvp. Hopefully that changes in GOD since it looks like it may be a little more balanced after awakening and pvp will last longer for the most part.
So someone telling the truth is a moron to you?
I called him a moron for stating a blatantly obvious fact that goes without saying and is understood in any game regardless of what you are playing. If he had said the world was round or the sky was blue I would have called him a moron just the same. Certain things in this world are given and do not require to be said.
My point is that pvp is inevitable in this game and cannot be avoided regardless of how long you play the game, unless you make a character log in and then immediately quit the game. You will at some point in your career be forced to flag (whether by losing control of your emotions or by just saying screw it..) on someone or retaliate against someone who has flagged on you.
WoW - Gear gained by pve is designed for increasing pve abilities. Gear gained by pvp is designed for increasing pvp abilities. Pvp gear can only be gained by pvping.
Lineage 2 - Gear gained by pve is designed for better pvp and pve, determined by your playstyle.
That is the difference between a game that is designed for pve with a pvp side and a game designed for pvp with a pve side.
If you say this game is a pve game and not designed by the creators as a pvp game then explain why the Kamael's awakened racials give a pvp damage boost.
Battle Instinct - Increases PvP damage and reduces the MP cost for skills. Passive skill.
That is actual proof that this game was designed by NCSoft as a pvp game... not a pve game.
I saw the F2P as a great way for me to get back in the game and hopefully meet up and enjoy the game with a lot of new people starting and starting over. I think this will be a great time for Lineage 2.
the endgame is obviously PVP ..... however either pvpers like or not, there's a bunch of carebears around ...they simply don't like pvp and for them l2 is some sort of social game and as unbelievable as it sounds, they only enjoy killing mobs.
if you're looking for wartags and such, you won't even notice em' .... but sometimes there's few who happen to be annoying, so i'd recommend simply pk em'.
Farm 7 hours to get 4% then lose it in 4 pvp fights. Now thats old school.
I actually miss. Cannot wait to get back in and start pvping again. Get some adrenaline flowing!
True old school is farming for a week to get 3% then get in one fight just to lose it plus some and delevel.
In regards to the old p2p players. Some will be disappointed with the changes, and some will welcome them. Some people will see this as a completely new game that is familiar to them however some will just look at it as another chronicle with new content.
I personally look forward to retail as it always had a feeling that Private servers could never provide. The pvp on retail had a sense of honor and pride, however the pvp on private servers to me seemed cowardly and almost guerilla style.
All in all I welcome the changes to retail as I look forward to experiencing all the new content.
Welcome back to Lineage 2 everyone and to the new players welcome.
On a side note to any players out there. If you need SE buffs my SE is currently only 48 but just shoot me a pm and if I'm in town I'll gladly buff you. If I'm out grinding it depends on how much mana I have ;)
before i used to play on lol privates which is bad... privates just dont give the same experience... noob players, constant wipes and etc... at the same time lineage lineage didnt seem to be worth paying money i mean when u think what will happend if u gonna have to leave one day? it would be a waste of money... also low online count scared me off a bit. so now when it is free to play i am sure that i will finally enjoy it and i will donate for sure just to say thnx to ncsoft for making this thing happen.
oh it never was a waste of money since we had the assurance our characters would carry over.
I lost a couple because I didn't have enough room in my account when the servers merged, but all of my leveled toons are still there; got all the chrono items and the white mask from around C4 when I stopped playing.
up until C6 it did feels like a second job once you got out of your 40's; no clan meant no advancement in any meaningful time frame.

WTFFFF!!!! xD no intend to be an *******, but that's only role playing.... there's no honor , or any kind of feeling involved on killing another player xD
ninja edit: also pvp on private servers changes depending on the server .... 500 vs 500 in Dion siege doesn't sound like a guerrilla to me .... random pvp is always gonna be random wherever you are.
Pve is a means to an end.... PvP is that end.
But 90% of the game is PvE and politics.
the "end" is controlling territory and forming alliances; and controlling territory is a few times a week in scheduled conflict anyways.
Olimpiad is like jousting, just for show.
Don't get confused; the game is open PvP, but it's not 100% 24/7 PvP; very different.

So, you started with "this game is PvP, and everyone will PK you for their grinding spot", and then turned it into "this game is PvP, because you can flag by a mistake, or because of bad control over your nerves". That's cool

When did I ever say that everyone will PK you for their grinding spot? The summary of what I stated is that people will defend what they feel is theirs. I never once said that everyone will PK you just for their grinding spot. Not everyone will defend their leveling area. However some will go red for it. Others will only flag. Even some will move to a different one relinquishing their own.
You keep trying to point out the flaws in what I say and if they are valid I will admit to them. I have no trouble admitting when I am wrong. I do have trouble with people that generalize what I have said to state it to be something completely different.
Also to be a little more specific, flagging on someone is never by mistake. The decision to target someone and ctrl+attack is made regardless of control over emotions or loss of control. It is a choice made, never a mistake. Yet again another statement I made taken out of context. Please don't summarize anything else I say because you apparently do not get the point of anything I have said.
someone at some point will flag on you and you will either be forced to run or fight.
Oh, but there is the third way, just wait to be PKed.
It is simple, you and your party will go along pretending you are just one of the 20 bot groups in the area and when the "flagger" is red, he either bsoes or is dead.
Its incredibly effective, just assimilate with the bots and:
a) They think you are a bot so no point in PK since you will return anyway;
b) They PK you thinking you are an easy kill and they have time to "wash" karma, but they are in for a surprise.
There are many ways to "PvP", but only intelligent ppl do that, the rest are doing ganking and executions which ARE NOT PvP.

Now it's begging for the question not of validity of your point, but in it's mere existence. Or was your point solely in calling others "morons"?

You probably have trouble with stating your point clearly. If you have one, that is.

There is a plenty of ways to flag on someone by mistake. In particular, those include:
1. Mispressing ctrl instead of (or together with) alt or shift.
2. Using a protective action when someone in party is flagged.
3. Using an AoE skill when someone out of party is flagged.
4. Using /targetnext and hitting blindly when someone out of party is flagged.
5. Mis-using forcemacro.
7. Autofollowing on someone out of party, who then flags for some reason.
And so on. And a smart PvE player knows that the fastest way to get rid of unwanted flag is to relog.
You can also "win" (as in reaching your goal and making the opponents to change thieir goal) some encounters without flagging at all.
Yet again another statement I made taken out of context.
Maybe you should make your statements to clearly relate to some context then

There is the way of standing there just to get yourself killed. This is really only effective if you have a party with you or someone that can avenge you before they de-karma. I know many intelligent people that on retail have participated in "ganking and executions" to get a point across to a warring clan/alliance. Intelligence cannot be based on how someone goes about pvping or pking. It can only be assessed by getting to know the person and determining how the assimilate data and convert it into every day use.

I will not touch the game until GoD. I have been slacking in town though trying to see some old names etc haha. Haven't found a single one yet.
I'm gonna play on the Innova server, but will be playing on NCwest to check the leveling speed and to keep my occupied :)
But yea I totally forgot I had those days also. Grind a year to get 1% then die due to pvp. Or farm so much gain like 6% then get a castle siege and cry in a corner :(

you dont loose any % during siege for years already
unless you fight in the wrong castle :D
even so, yesterday during siege was fighting wrong castle and lost 0.8% on 85
got it back today in 10min ;)

Was in an alliance that used alt clans to sign up haha... so uhm.. yea
And that was a long time ago!

I have stated my point repeatedly. I will not apologize for calling one person a moron for what I felt was deserving of the comment. The fact that you keep bringing this point up as it has already been addressed means that you obviously do not leave small things alone and are unable to move past anything.. or at least that's what it implies in my opinion.
You probably have trouble with stating your point clearly. If you have one, that is.
Several people on this thread have understood my point from either one or all posts. The fact that you question what my point is indicates in my opinion that you are unable to understand the point I have made repeatedly throughout this thread.

Every single one of these "mistake" examples can be avoided by simple awareness of what you are doing.
1.)Pay closer attention to where your keys are on your keyboard.
2.)Using such action knowing that someone in the party is flagged is complete choice. If you are unaware that you have a flagged party member then you really need to pay attention more to your surroundings and what's happening.
3.)If someone outside the party is flagged then don't use any AoE skills.
4.)Learn how to target by selecting the target instead of using the next target action button.
5.)Pay more attention to which macro's you are using or just don't use your force macro's in pve situations if you want to avoid flagging.
6.)you kinda missed number 6 if it was there ;).
7.)Valid point I won't debate. However autofollowing someone is a choice.
You do have a valid point regarding removing flag by relogging, as well as some situations can be controlled without having to flag.
It all really comes down to awareness and knowing how to interpret and control your surroundings when possible.
