Hello everyone, i'm coming back to this game after 7 years and I logged in and made me a character on Chronos (since Naia said EURO) and I was dumbfolded.
Everyone in most of the towns I went spammed the shout in a different language. Did I pick the wrong server or is this just how Lineage 2 is now?
I'm just curious if there will be a english only server because it's inconvenient for me to try and find parties when theres nothing but spam like "BR???" and stuff. Is there more english on the other server?

man, sooner l2.com will be a truly free.meaning u can play freely .u only have an option to donate if u want. this means the server is full of people in every part of the world.u didnt pick the wrong server , u picked the right server soon to be the most awesome server wev ever played. goodluck and enjoy
Long time ago, when I was on NA server chat was in english or at least in 80%.
I'm betting the reason it looks like this is the fact it's so easy to get in now. Just 5min to create master account and you are ready to play. BR really likes free games :o
Try to find clan restricted to english only. White/Orange chat you can always turn off, but it's hard to ignore clannies. Add to friendlist (/friendinvite name) all the nice players that you will meet, it may be helpful in future ;)
Gotta say that's why I've always liked L2.. people from all over the world together upon a server. Generally though even if they are speaking another language they also speak English. I've never had much of a problem.
One thing I like about L2 is meeting people from all over the world.
I was in an alliance with people from 50 different countries all speaking different languages, but fortunately they weren't ******s and spoke in english so everyone can understand each other.
I haven't run into this yet, but sounds awesome! Sounds like a wonderful opportunity, although, jeez, I wish my Japanese hadn't gone to hell. Well, that and Spanish didn't confuse me so much (too much like English, gets my brain all messed up and then I start remembering Japanese instead). I've always loved meeting people, or at least seeing all the chatter, from all over the world. Its great ^_^

theres no wrong pick but ye ur more likely to face these br's in chronos then naia since naia is EU server and doesnt fit all those latin america time zone
and im glad its that way :D keepin the ******s out and keepin naia the top pvp server while chronos is just full of pve scrubs :D

I know it sucks but 9/10 ppl from the private server trash community which is now flooding retail because they can afford the game now (lol) are from countries were English is not the main language.
you should have been around for the very brief time period they had enabled mulilanguage fonts afew years ago ... shout/trade/hero shout was a migraine inducing mix of Cyrillic/Greek/Portuguese with other weird text thrown in for good measure.
they will go away when they cant handle the real servers over the priv ones
yeah seems the chat has turned all into non english happends when the game goes free so everyone jumped the fence and got into L2 and i think they will go back to private servs when they get to the real grind in the high lvls bad enough mixed in chat all i see now is beggers gimme adena gimme gear i cant afford my D grade

Also, looks like most people here didn't play the beta; it wasn't just portuguese, but spanish, german and some russian thrown in for good measure.

... and it was great. I hope NCSoft enables it one day again. I loved to be able to talk with other people without having to wrap my head around a puny set of just 26 letters.
As far as Chronos and other American servers go: I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'll mostly have people speaking just one of four languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese) there. European servers are way more "interesting". :)
errr... there are donations; it's called the Galleria.
Donation is a term used by private servers because it was illegal for them to charge you to play since they did not own the game or the rights to sell it, they copied the game from ncsoft and asked for donations to pay for the server
The gallery and the coming in game store are not donations, ncsoft owns L2 they do not require donations to exist, instead they have what are called cash shops which are 100% legal
It is also confusing to people who played on privates who think donation=pay for top gear
Let me repeat this for private server people : You cannot "donate" for top gears

Ouch I hope this doesn't turn into a flamewar. I just turned shout and say off. I was just bummed out that night from all this but i'm not gonna let it ruin my time. Gonna be a lonely grind, but hey it's Lineage 2 so it's worth it. Hope to see you guys in game and enjoy your day.

You might want to re read what he asked, he didn't ask for an "American" server, he asked for an English server, there are a few other Countries the speak English as their primary language, but don't let that get in the way of you obvious anti American bias, which was the whole point of your post, to bash the "American" who asked about English.
Is it not in the server rules to use English in shout? It usually is for private servers - might be worth implementing here if it gets too much.
I disagree. Besides, its likely far more cost effective for NCSoft to have servers the way they are rather than make an English server, Portuguese server, Spanish server, Pig-Latin server, etc. If anything, man, I'd love a Babel-fish plug-in or for them to implement a system like some other games have had where you can select certain commands and it shows up to everyone in their own language (Sega did this for a game or two?).

Oh, that's too cool. I remember in COH we had a burst of Korean players for a while when COH Korea shut down, and it was soo cool to see that.

Why do you feel so proud about playing on priv serv, to the point where you rage on forum?
Recently we got lots of players coming from various servers, which are totally unlike environment on NCwest servers. We distinguish differences between NCwest, NCkorea, Innova and also privs. We understand that those are not comparable and the privs differ the most from the NA servers.
Yet the new players of lv20 come here and want us to recognize their achievements on other servers. They make topics like *Possibly the best Kamael out there*. Threat old players that someday they will roll 100men alliance and dominate server (we are not taking them seriously :rolleyes:). Whine why something here is not same way as on their old servers.
How can we have good opinion about them after seeing things like this? If you want us to see you as part of our community stop living in the past. Come here, play with us and show what you've got ;)
i'm just gonna point out few of the many things you seem to be terribly mistaken:
1.- there's a lot of people coming from privates that at least once played in retail.
2.- there was some private servers with the same rates and even more healthy.
3.- the so called big difference between a retail player and one of these players could be only the amount of grinding.
4.- your biased opinion about the new people comes from a single thread posted by a low IQ kid which is as delusional as any retail player claiming to be better.
5.- for most of us this play style is nothing new hence there's nothing to prove to some random already settled on the server.
6.- I don't see players from private servers openly raising facts like only 20% of retail players play in a competitive mode.
Hi, we're all here, now. Can we get along, please? I really don't care if you've been here since beta or just coming in from a non-NCSoft server. You're here now, I'll probably be playing with and/or against you (depending on the situation) at some point in the future, and all this going back and forth isn't really helping anything.
We've got a new start, with fresh, new players who might never have played Lineage II before coming for Goddess. I think we can all agree we enjoy this game and want it to do well, so lets try to nurture this opportunity. Letting the past be the past and looking towards the future fun we can all have together will be more productive in the long run ^_^
