Here's my rant:
So I'm going on massively.com and see this post about Lineage II going Free this instant and I'm like ?? I didn't hear anything about this ever... but I'm excited!
So I log on my NCSoft account, create a Lineage II game account and start downloading the game client. After having everything installed, I launch the game and configure the video option. No problems so far.
Time to choose a server... wait what? 3 servers? What is this... I don't understand... no language specific servers, no pvp/pve/roleplaying ruleset? And what about the population... only 3 servers how is this possible? Anyway... I choose the new one and move onto the character creation.
Character creation lacks a lot of customization but the game being as old as World of Warcraft, I understand. I hesitate between a Dark Elf Archer or a Healer. I choose to go with the Archer (Fighter path). I name my character and log into the game.
Now this is where all hell break loose. Lagging beyond my imagination, I manage to open the options menu and turn off the shadows. This is a little bit better. I turn around and see the reason of this low performance issue. In front of me are standing litterally 2,000 person. All screaming "LVL ME UP PLZ" or speaking spanish.
After 5 minutes, I had logged off. Unable to move due to lag, unable to speak to a NPC due to all the people gathered on it like the plague. Annoying spanish people speaking in general.
So why NCSoft? Why so unprepared? Why no language specific servers? Why only 3 servers :O? I can't play and I won't play until the wave of people making everything lag leave. This is not an enjoyable experience and I won't stand by it.
TL;DR: Why only 3 servers, **** is lagging and makes the game unplayable come on !
Trying to check the game out, but the camera baffles me. It keeps pointing straight up. Sometimes I can get it to face straight ahead but if I go to turn my character it swings up. i cant actually face the NPC to get quest. Hoping its a lag issue but its so weird.
and yes, the constant screaming of lvl me up plz is just baffling...Im assuming these are 'vets', why play on a new server if you only want to be leveled up instantly?
And the foreign languages followed by hatred of those people. Still going to give the game a shot, but it was the worst 5 minutes of MMO community Ive ever witnessed.
Use /target to target a npc you can't click on. like for the first guy /target Pantheon. But I agree, it's a pretty bad newbie quest line. Especially with the Scarecrow part.
Oh well i'm glad I already have other characters, I was just seeing what the newbie quest line was like.

Could be wrong, but I'm under the impression that the number of people who showed up exceeded expectations by a fair bit.
And hopefully the obnoxious brats will leave sooner rather than later, but we'll see. I'm looking forward to meeting up with good gamers from all around the Americas, if not the world ^_^

I think I solved this, seems like the game has issues with gamepads being plugged in, have a 360 controller hooked up for skyrim...maybe Ill be able to see where Im going now lol

It's people from private servers who are used to that kind of thing. They don't understand it's the official server and that kind of stuff doesn't happen here.

I dunno. I've seen beggers for money, gear, powerleveling, etc., on pretty much every MMO I've tried... it might simply be a few people used to it and the rest parroting them.

Maybe get a better computer or net provider?
Also you do know L2 use to have 2k ppl on one server when it 1st came out right? They arnt unprepared like your ranting about this clearly shows you dont know much about MMO's.
Also there no need for a server for X language since the server pop will prob be low and end up merging with another server. NcSoft does NA and all of NA no need to brake it down since most people in NA speaks some type of English.
Do you think EU will have 50 server for each of there spoken languages nope. They will most likely have server up for everyone or at least have 1 or 2 servers for the larger none english speaking groups that are in EU.
But again most NA games do not have a server for Spanish only.

I am fluent in Greek, English, And Spanish. Not much in French, but yeah English makes it more simpler for all players in NA and even some European players that play too.
This NA, thus it wouldn't be fair to the French speakers if there was Spanish servers. :)
Well, true. English, French and Spanish are all spoken in North America...
I would love to see the game do well enough we could have language specific servers, but at the same time I love the international feel of things when people are all speaking in other languages...
Granted, living here, sometimes I'll go into Wal-Mart and hear people speaking in Ilikano (Phillipines), Japanese, Korean, Hawaiian, English, German and Spanish. Not all at once, not all the same night, but still ^_^

Don't forget about South America with Brazilian players (Portuguese). Throw in some Russian players, and it is best to keep it simple.
Let me toss out an ages old phrase: Get back to WOW? :-p
Seriously, just wait a bit till it all settles down. First scam, GMs refuse to help as it is part of game, and they'll leave.

First of all, my computer is worth 3,000$, I'm running on 3 monitors and I can ran Skyrim in Ultra with all the fancy stuff (anti-aliasing in stuff). For the internet, I have 50ms in most games and I never experience lag. This isn't about the system or the internet connection, it's purely about the server population being too high or too concentrated in the same area.
Now for my experience in MMOs, I've quit WoW recently because I logged over 5,000 hours of gameplay and I was in the 25th best guild in the U.S. (Ropetown @ Executus-US). I've also played almost every MMORPG that you can think of so my experience has nothing to do with my rant.
Create a new character and you'll see why we're whining about the newbie area or new player experience.

Don't know any Russians, but at church I know at least one young lady from Switzerland, our song-leader and his family is Brazilian, another friend of mine is Brazilian... hrm... where else...
I really want to visit Brazil one day. I hear the food is wonderful, plus there's the largest population of Japanese people outside of Japan there. My dad's side is Okinawan, I've been to Japan three times, so going there would also a chance to see something familiar and different at the same time.
Seriously - once you get used to seeing people from all over the place its addictive. The only reason I tolerated Atlanta when I lived in Georgia was because it was so diverse (don't like big cities, hate Atlanta traffic).

i agree with the gentlemen , seems like theres no race x starting zone and its all mixed races in 1 zone

I half wonder if UE2.5 can't make use of your computer's resources (ie, multiple CPU cores, newer GPUs, newer versions of DX). While my computer isn't as nice as yours, its still pretty decent and still has less than ideal performance with L2. Also, the starting area mob (which dwarfs any events I've seen in City of Heroes) doesn't help @_@
Also, I really, REALLY don't think NCSoft expected this sort of turnout. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if we saw an additional server or two rolled out, although things should get better as the populations start spreading out throughout the game world instead of being concentrated in the beginning area.
i agree with the gentlemen , seems like theres no race x starting zone and its all mixed races in 1 zone
Its a unified starting area now. http://www.lineage2.com/en/game/patch-notes/goddess-of-destruction/revamped-areas/zones.php
Newbie Villages
The racial starting villages have been ruined by rampaging fiends crazed from drinking blood rain, pestilent mist, and the activities of the Earth Wyrm Trasken. After much deliberation, the chiefs of each race decided to abandon their villages. With the approval of King Amadeo Cadmus of Aden, they begin the migration to Talking Island, a place protected by divine power. These refugees rebuilt Talking Island Village, and now all new players start there, regardless of race.
In the Kamael, Orc, Dwarven, Elf, and Dark Elf Villages, all NPCs are gone, and the appearance of these villages is much changed. The villages can still be visited via Gatekeepers and teleport devices, but the former newbie quest series has been removed from the game.
While maybe a feature in the past, I kind of prefer the unified approach. You can see it in City of Heroes, Guild Wars, Aion, and some other games. It seems race specific areas are generally the same content with different writing.
Trying to check the game out, but the camera baffles me. It keeps pointing straight up. Sometimes I can get it to face straight ahead but if I go to turn my character it swings up. i cant actually face the NPC to get quest. Hoping its a lag issue but its so weird.
Happened to me when I got my G13... started spinning camera pointed at the ceiling..
Seems the game sees the G13 as a gamepad... Go to your gameoptions and uncheck GamePad.
This probably goes for all programmable keyboars by logitech.

Skyrim is not graphic intensive game =) every 600$ PC can run it in ultra come on :D
Try Crysis 2 with the DirectX 11 patch and high-res textures on ultra or
Battlefield 3 =) then you can speak !
Cuz if you have 3000$ pc and you bought 3 monitors ... your pc is more like 1200$ PC :D unless those monitors are crappy with huge bezel and that is fail :| good luck with the eyefinity bro
I also bet that you bought an SSD instead of HDD which is ... well ... kind of waste of money in gaming :D there is tom's hardware article testing just that and SSD does not perform better than HDDs. Sure the load times are faster (logically) but the way the game runs ... same ****

Well, that price plus three monitors says "workstation" to me. And while a powerful workstation might not be the best gaming rig, it should still be a very good gaming rig (no games use 6-cores yet so far as I know, but professional apps? Oh yeah).
You do not get why saying, suck it up or leave is a bad thing, its the same reason that the scope of the problem is a bad thing.
These games need viable communities and especially new blood. This was an awesome opportunity for L2 and they blew it horribly.
There will be a lot of people who check it out and might have gotten into it that will just leave now, between being unable to move, or unable to find the main quest guy, and the 2000 people thinking the GM is levelling them up (and were they? thought I saw it, but I dont know what it looks like).
I really havent had any kind of trouble with game... beyond the login issues...
I live in the *** of the world... i have a ***** PC ... a ***** connection.. still no problems...
I had some hard time trying to move along in Talking... but when i leave ... it was a great smooth gameplay... (even better than before update)
About hundreds of ppl shutting about lvl up and GMs... i think they do it just on purpose.. weeks and weeks calling them private trash... and there you go... they act like that... They are just pulling your nerves.... this will stop..
Some will quit... some will prevale... some will become friends... some will just cry about any new thing they not understand... its normal...
Well, here I had typed up a gigantic post going into excruciating detail about everything that disappointed me about this game as a new player. The forum deleted it when I went to post and it wasn't saved. I guess that's what they call the cherry on the [censored] sundae.
Long story short, I'm sure NCSoft attracted thousands of people with this F2P relaunch but almost all of them are going to be missed opportunities due to the game-crushing overpopulation, ridiculously low spawn rates, and lack of a channel system to alleviate spawn-camping.
Shorter yet - 400 people versus 5 spawning monsters = not fun for anyone.
Part of the problem with overcrowding is the fact that EVERY existing character initially logs into Talking Island and, of course being a new update, most were sticking around and checking the place out.
As someone else mentioned, once you left Talking Island the game ran smooth.
Another problem with overcrowding is with this update, all new character creations now occur in one place. Before GoD, each race had its own starting village, but all of the starting villages have been destroyed and we now all start in the same area.
For anyone who has had a negative experience with extreme lag (I'm a vet and I couldn't get away from TI fast enough) and over crowding and server crashes...ya know, give it a few days for things to calm down and then give it another shot. Once the vets have logged in and moved away from TI it should make the starting experience better. And really, a few days lost in leveling isn't going to hurt anyone.
About the camera always looking up or spinning out of control...yeah, it's a gamepad thing. I think in the Technical Issues part of the forums there might even be a sticky post about it.
I like seeing all the new folks and I hope not many are too discouraged to give it another try in a few.
Hundreds of players standing around shouting "GM lvl me up" and cannot even see the quest mob
Thought I would give it another chance, but this is impossible.
Best thing is that NCWest only opened 1 extra server. When I read it I was LOLing. Does NCWest even realize that all those 100's of private servers out there will end soon with all their players going for 'the real deal' now? Apperantly not...
If I was in charge there' I'd add AT LEAST 3 servers for the 1st week and see where things go from there. And not like it's now, all 3 servers on HEAVY and even Shillien to be crashed an hour ago (prolly because of too many players there).

If it helps you with anything; open beta seven years ago was way worse; and that's considering all the races had separate starting villages.
Give it a couple of hours, evntually you will be able to actually experience th egame. Oh, and that was on hardware from seven years ago, we didn't even had the luxury of 4 GB of RAM or multicore processors.

Oh and nobody cares what you did in WoW, it's pease easy to do everything there; here it's very different, free to play or not and even with the bonuses and questing it's still open PvP and play the market to win.
Maybe some ppl caming from private are noob, but what about NCSoft ? They seems not better than Admin in private server. So pathetic both.
That's what you get for free

I'm sure his computer is fine, and so is his Net Provider... You do realize EVERYONE logged into Talking Island village yesterday right? Most of which spent at least a few hours there doing various tasks with their characters.
I can assure you that there has never been that many people on an L2 server, let alone in one town as there was yesterday... The Lag/Crit Errors happen, I don't care how good of a computer you have.
Maybe some ppl caming from private are noob, but what about NCSoft ? They seems not better than Admin in private server. So pathetic both.
Since I have been around here for quite a while now, (7 years) I can tell you what happened.
We used to have 9 busy servers. Then as the population dwindled the servers started merging with each other until in the last little bit we had 2 servers. 1 European and 1 US server. Neither was really that full. They kind of underestimated the number of people that would be returning, even though they effectively upped there servers by 50%. On top of that, they got rid of alot of their staff at NC West, and I believe they are running everything from Korea now.
Now somehow we have enough players back to be back up to 4 servers (without any advertising that I have seen). Not enough staff members left to properly deal with this influx of people, and they have everyone logging into the same town now, which is really causing problems. In a few weeks when people are more spread out through out the lands I don't think there should be many population issues, but the first few weeks will be crappy.
Could be wrong, but I'm under the impression that the number of people who showed up exceeded expectations by a fair bit.
And hopefully the obnoxious brats will leave sooner rather than later, but we'll see. I'm looking forward to meeting up with good gamers from all around the Americas, if not the world ^_^
this game is like 7-8 years old my expectations were kinda low il wait till the weekend maybe the lag will be gone
Ncsoft should create a server for Brazillian or simply put a kind of filter for only English words cause seriously, these Spanish spammers are really annoying. I think this is the price we pay for playing free, higher population, higher noobs and idiots...

Unplug your controller, or go to options and find Game Pad option.
