so,as the title say,the movement WASD of this game is not available, when was this game made?
cuz as i know, only those old RPG made around 2006 cant move with WASD
all modern RPG like this atm people use with the relax-lying back and press WASD instead of the old-style mouse clicking.
so those players who used to play today's game really not use to play a game that we cant move with WASD,how about you guys?
WASD works if you disable (or enable, I'm not sure) the enter chat mode, but it's finicky. I sometimes use it if I am running in a simple path, but turning on a dime is impossible. I agree a proper WASD would be nice but I don't see one ever being implemented.
I could change the 'enter chat mode' before GoD.. but hell i cant find it anymore in the options? Can anyone else find it? I want my hotbars on 1, 2 etc.!
Please read the thread. The game has been out since 2003. It HAS stuck.
Almost all =! all.
Depends on what you mean by stuck. It's never gained significant traction anywhere outside of Korea. So unless you mean it's 'stuck' as in like, it's still running, remember that Lineage I 'stuck' once in North America, and now it's gone.
In short 'stuck' =/= successful
Edit: I wanted to add that Aion has been more successful worldwide than either of the Lineage games, and it uses WASD for movement, so the Koreans definitely know it's what works, but that might also mean they just can't add it to Lineage II for whatever reason.

Knowing NCSOFT, it probably would take more work than they want to put into the game at this point.
I think if they updated the movement system to a more modern WASD, they would need to update the animations/add new one for all the race/genders. Otherwise it would look really freaking strange, honestly.
Since I also play RTS games (League of Legends, Starcraft) the click-to-move thing doesn't bother me, personally. Its like playing an RTS, just I'm clicking with my left mouse button instead of my right.
cant find it in 'damage text' tab either.. maybe they changed the name as well? Otherwise ill just bring this to the question forums..
Cheers, Mort
Its on the keybindings tab (Last tab in the options), at the very top.
There's a tiny checkbox that says "Enter Chat" - simply check it off and you're good to go.
I have it checked off because I hate how w/o it you can accidentally start typing **** in game. Or spamming numbers in chat, if you're a Naga user. lol

Why would it? I've been playing with a controller for some time, and the only complaint I have is that it could be smoother, otherwise it runs perfectly fine. Same goes for point-and-click. Nothing needs to change if they were to add a WASD option.

Ahh, I wasn't clear enough I guess. Been playing TERA the last 6 months or so, forgot WASD varies a bit from game-to-game.
I guess it would depend on how they bound the A and D keys.
If A & D are simply to turn the camera, then yes they wouldn't need to.
If A & D are strafe (like I'm used to in WASD games) then they would need to add some sort of strafing animation.

Look at my join date, of course I know when the game came out. But that doesn't mean changes can't be made. Loads of UI changes have been made over the year and AWSD is really one area they need to improve if Lineage 2 is to keep any significant market ground.
Almost all =! all.
No, its not all, but L2 is the lone kid on the block with this and players returning and new players will drop the game in favor of a game with controls they're used to.
This is not just MMOs, its single player and multiplayer games as well.
Its honestly dumb that the game doesn't have the OPTION of a proper AWSD system as well as the point and click.

If I had a 20+ button mouse, maybe I could put all the skills I need to reach fast on my healer on it. But I don't have such a mouse, and most people playing healers here don't have it, so we cannot waste our left hands on doing WASD movements.

Your mileage may vary, of course.
Razer Naga! Profile switches for the win. <3
Or the n52te, the n52te is nice for games with 472568237642873655 skills also. >:3 And you can move with the directional stick if you want.
I do agree though. The thought of trying to hit skills and move with WASD frightens me.

I know how long you've been around, I remember you from back in the day. The thing is, WASD movement is an essential part of the coding and the engine involved in running the game.
As someone else stated earlier, if they were to add true WASD, they would have to entirely re-do the graphics engine. They'd had to change the animations completely. From fighting, to standing, to casting, to moving. It's alot more than just tweaking the way the keys react.
Lineage ][ was built on the old Unreal Engine 2. That engine alone is nearly a decade old, which is prehistoric in terms of computer hardware/software.
Aion on the otherhand, was created using the CryEngine, which was created SPECIFICALLY for Far Cry, a FPS, that natively used WASD movement keys.
And really, Lineage 2 has stuck. It's nearly 8 years old. There aren't ALOT of 8 year old games from that time frame, that aren't radically different than the current market of MMO's that came well after it, still alive and kicking.
I fail to see how they can't add WASD to the game since, like it's already IN GAME? I am using it right now... it's just really buggy with the camera and such.
They don't need to add WASD, they need to FIX IT. They need to work around their limited engine and do something about someone which is already in place.

WASD is for FPSes not MMOs only failures play ANY MMO with WASD, it impedes too many options when used in an MMO
Educate myself? The thing is already in the game, they just need to fix it. How about you educate yourself first kid?
You Sir just don't get the point do you? This game has always been loved by hardcore MMO players just he way it is (even the mindless grindfest part more or less). If you don't like it you can go back to carebear World of Warcraft and do the loljumping.
I see people happy with the new changes and I assume NCsoft made some major research of what needs to be changed in GoD to make players like it and as you can see the movement issue is not such thing (and I doubt it will ever be).
The real thing of it is, when a game is created, you use an engine to process all of the mathematical equations and turn a key press into an action. With L2, they use an engine that just doesn't have modern WASD key press features built into it. It doesn't understand what to do when told "Strafe right", which is a usual D press.
Just like in EVE Online, the engine running it does not understand WASD movements. It is a point and click interface. That's all that works.
Does L2 have WASD? Yes, but in our time now, it's rudimentary at best. Instead of strafing, the keys pan the camera. Because that's what FPS games do when you hit WASD, back in 2002 when the engine was created, was pan the camera around.
It's not broken, it works perfect.
It's just not like other WASD movement in more modern games.

Obviously NCSoft doesn't care about the "hardcore MMO players" if it's F2P, no?

this is incorrect. Even in unreal I you could perfectly do the wsad movement with strafing. ( 15 year gaming experience )
It's not really the engine's fault, it can actually do it. However Lineage 2 was built from the ground up to use the mouse to move. There wasn't even the ability to use WASD in the beginning. They made the most out of WASD without having to significantly overhaul the graphics and pretty much the entire game.

Its your own conjecture that WASD can't be properly supported in the game. Many enhancements have been made to the engine for Lineage 2, so its likely just a question of time. Considering that literally tens of millions of players are used to WASD controls, its really stupid to not make better support for it. This does NOT mean that the point and click controls should go away, this just mean that the option should be there to attract MMO players.
Without it, Lineage 2 is going to continue to be a very small game, despite its advantages and even despite being F2P.
The whole "TROLOLOLOL...GO BACK TO WOW" rutine is getting stale, completely forgetting that just about every other game out there has proper WASD controls too.
Do you have any proof or dev saying that the graphics would need to be overhauled or the "entire game" or is it just lip service.
Don't you know? these people are professional game developers, everything they say is correct because they know some C+ programming and when you tell them otherwise they tell you 'go educate yourself slap c+ tutorial here'.
It is funny when people that don't even work for the company say things like 'Impossible' when they themselves don't even know the answer.
