WT.. is going on with this charactor deletion? it takes 7 days to delete a toon? Are you crazy. You lowered the charactor limit to 2. Thats even worst but kepted the 7 deletion, lol....I just came back to the game after 3yrs. I made a Dark Elven got to 26 then wanted to try another charactor. I made a orc lvled it up a bit and now I want to delete it so I can make a another toon and lvl it to 15 then do the wolf pet mission and give it to my dark elven since the Dark Elven Get a pet wolf is bugged atm ( they removed or moved the mobs needed to kill for the mission from the starter area). All of this happen with in 30mins. OMG i wanted to rage quit again...
You have all these new players coming into the game. There gonna be making new charactors deleting them. Trying to find a a class/race that suits them. Then they hit a wall of a 7 day deletion timer, lol.. Why in the world would you have this in a mmo these days.. WOW.. I was wondering what everyone was complaning about in chat for the past few days.. This sucks bad.. So now I can't play my Main which is a dark elven like I want too with a wolf pet because the devs fraked that up.
I think this is the last weekend for the normal SWTOR beta players i think I'll play that for the rest of the week end.. Or even play Tribes Ascended beta.. Thats a really good game..
Lineage 2's character deletion system has been 7 days for... well as long as i can remember... on all servers. If you really want an unofficial answer what to do... Make another account. You're gonna make a box anyways. Might as well make it now.
I don't think I played any other mmo that DOES have a timed deletion. And if you don't know any, I can give you 2 examples right off the bat : World of Warcraft and Star Wars The Old Republic :P
7 day limit is for your protection, else the world would be full of I accidentally deleted/someone **** me and deleted my 99 lvl main
2 Character limit applies to the new servers only and its temporary. But accounts are free, if you 're THAT desperate to create more characters go make another account

Never played WoW.
SWTOR may change that after release (unless they've stated elsewhere, obviously, I didn't like it enough to start reading the SWTOR forums). In BETA games don't generally have a time limit, because since tests are usually only a few days to a week or two, it would be silly to have such a time limit. In games I've tested, they've switched to 7-day deletion once they actually launch the game.
But yeah, other than in tests, every MMO I've played has a 7-day deletion. Some have even held on to the name of the character for 30 days after deletion, which is infuriating.
well it has always been this way... im also a d-elf, so wolf q bug sure suxs, thoug if you want a wolf just crate a new acc and do a q with it...
Or buy one off the Auction House, too. I've seen some selling for as low as 50k off and on. With the amount of money the starter quests give you, thats nothing. lol
Yah, your friend is Numbers after your login name xD. Make an account, then make another one with the same name but with a 2, than 3 and so on. NCSoft will hate us for giving people the idea to do this that didn't already have it but still. If **** happens, make a new account. Doesn't cost a penny and you aren't at any real loss. And you ARE going to make a box at some point so you can use that other one as your box when the count down is done.
But yeah, other than in tests, every MMO I've played has a 7-day deletion. Some have even held on to the name of the character for 30 days after deletion, which is infuriating.
Well after all the ranting i remembered that I can make another account, lol.. Omg I had to make another gmail, mmorpg (for serial codes), and a NCsoft account. I hate filling out apps. I guess that fix's everything for now..
I have played just about every Big title mmo and there is no character deletion timer. None at all.. Now I most/y only play big title games and newer ones.
But yeah, other than in tests, every MMO I've played has a 7-day deletion. Some have even held on to the name of the character for 30 days after deletion, which is infuriating.
Just out of curiosity what other games besides L2 has a 7 day deletion; of all the MMOs I've played this is the only one that doesn't have instant deletion of the character. Cant remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure RFO (Rising Force Online) even had an instant deletion and that is the only other Korean grind MMO I've played. Only other game I can think of is EvE had a 24 hour wait.
As to the topic; it is annoying to when all of your character slots are full and you want to drop a class you aren't that fond of to try out something else, but since the game is free now you could just create another account while you wait for the deletion timer.

Maybe its an asian game thing then, I've only ever tried/played one Western MMO, and that was the SWTOR beta.
Every game I've played (whether Chinese or Korean) has had at least some form of deletion timer. The lowest I think was AION which was what, 5min? I don't know if they changed that or not, I quit that garbage over a year ago.
TERA has a 7-day deletion, if your character is over LV4 (which is silly since you hit 4 in like 10mins).
Can't remember how long the deletion in Vindictus was, but it held onto character names for 30-days at the time I played it.
Then there's numerous other games I've played/tried, some of which I'm not sure about their character deletion timers, because I didn't need to delete characters.
I research classes/races heavily before choosing what I want to play, because I hate jumping around between classes, and hate running into a wall with character deletion even more. lol
I really wouldn't like to see all my effort over 3 weeks going off for some sily misstake or **** ..and that's just me spending some lousy hours.:)
Imagine how would someone that is playing for 7 years here would feel about something like that.:P
That's what customer support is for :P And I find it very unlikely that someone would **** your account with the intention of deleting your character. That seems pointless.
I can see you're new :) It's always been like that.
it's that way so you can change your mind (or if your acct gets hacked you can save your chars before they are deleted hopefully). It's to encourage you to pick a char and stick with it, and to think carefully about deleting & making characters. You can't just hit max lvl in a week, it takes some time & effort. There are however multiple servers and you could max out all your char slots if you wanted.

So say i'm in a public internet cafe and i want to go out to smoke a cigaret ..and someone goes by my pc and deletes my character ,even if you catch the guy who did this what's the worse you can do to him...and how would you prove then to costumer support that you didn't delete it at your own?^^
And don't tell me something like "Then log out to login screen without your pass on" because i could be in party leaching exp meanwhile.:p
That's not something that would affect a lot of players and it's a very careless thing to do :P
Customer support should retrieve the character regardless of who deleted it and for what reason.

And what comes when i don't remember my secret questions or mail that i registerd my account on after 7 years of playing? That's more than common,it happened some time to everyone of us.:P

Ahhh yeah probably is more of an Asian MMO thing then...most MMOs I've played/tried are Western based. I also tend to do a lot of research on my characters before picking one for the same reason as you, but I also have a bad case of Altitist so will roll up other ones just to try them out. The 7 day deletion timer doesn't bother me any, but L2 is the only one that I've found with it so did always strike me as odd.

Most gaming companies don't actually delete your character data when you delete your character, since it actually takes up very little room in the long run, so they are usually able to reinstate your character very quickly. They may wipe it out every few months (to clear up the data base form the bots/spammers characters) so if you wait to try and get it back might have issues, but usually if you ask (nicely) within a few weeks they can get it reinstated.
In another game when I had accidentally deleted the wrong character (to many beers that night and probably shouldn't have been playing) they had him back to my account within 5 minutes of me filing the petition.
And what comes when i don't remember my secret questions or mail that i registerd my account on after 7 years of playing? That's more than common,it happened some time to everyone of us.:P
They will go off of other info associated with the account. If you don't know that info then I would have to question if you are the true owner of the account. Plus you should update your email whenever you change it, or at least write it down so you'll have it handy.

And now tell me how many people ouf of the milions that've played this game did as you say : remembering every info they've put on an account which might even have started just for fun. ^^

I would say that the vast majority probably do, again if you don't remember some of the info they'll ask for other bits that the real owner should know, and if you put BS answers down for that info you deserve to lose the account.
Edit: Also usually you can get the character reinstated through the website petition system and don't have to call. In that case you would just have to log in using your log in information you use with the game, and if oyu don't remember that then how the hell did you log into the game so that your character can be deleted in the first place.
Also if you want to plaay the "What If" game then they should completely disable character deletion because what if I'm at an Internet Cafe and going to step out for a smoke while leaching some XP. While I'm out there someone deletes my character, and in my rush to get back in to stop it I don't notice the car that jumps the curb and hits me, and I end up in the hospital for 2 weeks. After I get out I can't remember the info that seems to be easy to forget so now can't get my character back. But since we don't want to limit which classes someone can play with NCsoft will have to make it so you can have infinite amount of characters on your account in case you want to switch from playing caster class to a melee class, or while you like that melee class you want to play a female character and not a male.

I don't think you'd be worried about your l2 account in hospital.^^
And not everyone would enjoy recovering a lost character which isn't his fault it got deleted.:) It's waste of time and nervs which you could use to do something much more enjoyable and good.
So still,7 days is a pretty nice deadline for a character's deletion.
Also if on 5th day you'd change your mind it would need just 1 click to do it ,not a whole situation, and imagine how many "mind changed" people would it be though the time,it's not just player's time waste but also NCsoft's waste of time ,just because someone "change" his mind.:) 7 day deadline is the finest option imo.

Thats why I said in hospital for 2 weeks (one week past the 7 day deletion timer), because once your out will want to go back to playing some. Also like I said it took my less than 10 minutes to get my character back in another game when i accidentally deleted one. After noticing it was gone I logged out went to website, filled out petition, went to bathroom, got some coffee, logged back in, and character was back (also so you know this was in EQ and SOE isn't know for having the best CS; matter of fact is considered by quite a few people as one of the worst).
Basically what I'm getting at is if it is set up right you don't need to jump through these hoops you seem to be imagining to get the character back.
And now tell me how many people ouf of the milions that've played this game did as you say : remembering every info they've put on an account which might even have started just for fun. ^^
If you didnt fill in your realname, address and phone number, or your birthdate then it is your fault.
I can believe you losing the CD key back when you needed one; I had to buy a second DVD when C4 launched and I have been keeping it ever since (since it's pretty neatly boxed).
To be honest? Its not a bad idea, especially since I've seen a number of players ragequit something before (because of changes, other players, up too late and too drunk, etc), then regret it within a few days. I think the implementation may need to be adjusted to reflect current leveling realities (simply pulling numbers out of the air here):
1-19: no timer.
20-40: 1 or 2 day timer
41-60: 2 or 3 day timer
61-80: 3 or 4 day timer
81-99: 5 day timer
Obviously, adjust the ranges there based on how long it takes to get them. But, it would be helpful with spontaneous and not thought out rage quits, malicious deletions, accidental deletions (up too late), etc. A little safety net, but no more.

I've been on Official server for sometime now, and agree the 7 day timer is a bit much; especially now with only 2 char. limit. Psyte has a great idea on it and would love to see that implemented; usually by the time your 40 you'll have an idea if you like the class or not, and your less likely to delete the char.
So say i'm in a public internet cafe and i want to go out to smoke a cigaret ..and someone goes by my pc and deletes my character ,even if you catch the guy who did this what's the worse you can do to him...and how would you prove then to costumer support that you didn't delete it at your own?^^

Are you for real? lol. if that happens you have the worst luck on this planet.
Frankly 1 week is just ridiculous. First of all, because it is way too long (and by the way it is for EVERY server, old, new, it doesn't matter, all of them have the same system). If they want your characters to be safe, then they should let you set a password for character deletion. Even if someone somehow hacked your account, it would be very unlikely that he actually got that password too.
Sigh! I have to agree that 7 days it's way too much, and BTW Guild Wars doesn't have a waiting time for character deletion, and its a game from the same company
- Someone can enter in the account without the permission of the owner.
- The owner can be drunk and erase his char.
- The owner can even be distracted and acidentally erase a char.
- Rage-quits that can be lamented after 2-3 days or in the morning, with a cool head.

Actually, Arenanet is a subsidiary of NCSoft, not the same company.
