XPing and Grind- POST AWAKENING

General Discussion Started Last reply 41 posts
Got to be honest here...only have logged in a total of 6 hours since GoD launched... basically awakened my main...and gained 10% on toon...

I am not sure if I am going to play any longer due to time and changes to game...

What is the grind like now past 85?

Are there any level 90's yet as there were in Korea a week after launch?

How is the grind?

Lald
I know it's bad, because after almost a week, not a single person in my clan is even 87 yet, and I'm in (I think) the second largest alliance on Chronos. I mean, I expected at the very least, 95-99 to be horrible, and maybe even 90-95, but I also expected 85-90 to be pretty reasonable. At this rate, unless everyone is doing something wrong, it's going to be 4-5 months before people are hitting 99. Probably longer, since the levels get slower and slower.

And I may be wrong about all this. Maybe it's not as bad as a think? But it looks bad to me.
you're complaining about 85-99 in 4-5months?!! back in the day it could easily take that long to go 78 or even 78-80. now, i went from 1-60 in less than 1.5 DAYS!!...and i wsnt even playin that much either. it soo easy to level now. and there ARE people 88+ now, less than a week out of release. given that first 7 days, and there prolly will be some 90s...not many at all..but there will be. top clans whove got the proper gear/party setups...will hit 95, imo, well before that quoted 4-5 months you said. from your post, im judging you werent in L2 when we still had bartz back in the day...when it was HARD to level. people HAD to xp cuz of PVP losses, even before most had Clan luck lv 1 or 2. Cuz if you just started playing L2 in GoD, its not even the same game...especially in the XPing and pvping. a wk after GoD launch, you should already be 85. imo.

+1 ... Haven't checked the AOE grouping past 85... hopefully there is something, I love AOE
couldnt help it, it needed to be said. alot of people are complaining about "server lag" or whatever...but a) they severely upped the graphics (even tho MSI Afterburner says its still a DX9 game lol) and b) for the sheer number of people now playing lineage 2, its really not bad at all. yea there arent areas anymore than one group or clan can "overtake" and camp there powerleveling eachother, but it makes it interesting to say the least. yea theres ur usual ks'ers in the mix, especially in the sub 75 areas where eveyrone and their mothers are doin the "path to awakening" bs...but its good to see L2 servers "heavy" on a constant. once they fix (which im sure they will soon cuz of the 13212321453424 posts in this general discussion part of the forums) the pvp/pk stuff...it'll be enjoyable i think.

as far as "people botting", everyone who's been playing this game for a number of years knows that no matter how many people get banned or bots get banned (which for a time they were banning like 5-700 accounts at a clip for botting), its still going to be an issue. its like the IT field, you get a vulnerability patched, someone else slightly smarter than you or the patch and will find some way to circumvent said patch/security measure and do what they want. its inevitable.

i am interested to see, like u said, how the AOE stuff goes...but thats tbd.

I never remember the grind being all that bad, and I've played on and off since the beginning. You're right though, there may be some people that are 88 by now, but 90, I don't believe that. By 'some' I mean maybe 1-2 on each server. I know of one on Chronos. And they've been playing 24/7 all week, so 160+ hours. And not by one person either likely. Those people are not the people to point at when saying the grind is too easy. It's clearly not too easy. I forgive you though. I knew you were slow when you mentioned how easy 1-60 was in a thread that has post awakening in the title.
80-99 are still going to be extremely grindy with the perception of being slow. There are no dailies afaik for 80+ (although I heard there was one at 85+, but that's probably a rumor), and there's also new areas to grind as well as a few instances.

I think things will pick up a bit when you see people finding out where to go and what to do. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Get nostalgia goggles off.

At launch it was almost a month of playing 8 hours a day to reach level 20.

Then pole exping was discovered (since everybody can equip anything) so they nerfed the poles for non pole users, still, the AoE is enough; people just pulled in smarter and more efficient ways.

It took a team of players playing 24/7 to claim the competition prize during launch, first to max level got an alienware; they later admitted it was hell to do it.

Even past that, not a lot of people got to 65 within the first year of the game's life, when we got the patches to 72 and then 75 nobody did it within the first month or within the chronicle either.

In fact, I last returned a week before this thing went free to play; so two weeks or so before GoD launched; while fast, it was still slow enough, the only real difference was:

you got the newbie buffs, and shadow weapon coupons; those help you save your first million adena; 1 to 40 took a week instead of a couple of months, but above 40 it was still heavy grinding.

The vitality system helped a lot too al ong with the herbs; you might not be remembering correctly, but pre herbs and pre vit; by level 50 you started getting .01 exp from mobs; higher levels were going into infinitesimals; we are talking HOURS of grinding to get 5 to 10% in super efficient parties.

You get whole levels until 86 in GoD; if it takes 4-5 months to max to 99 it is OK.

You might not remember, but pre C3, you hunted with mismatched armor and weapons; top D you started getting around level 38 and you got top C by level 60.

86+ is all dungeon maps and epic questing from the patch notes; going back to talking island and actually getting into the ruins.
I find the grind at 86 pretty much the same as at 84/85: dull and slow. Now, here's the crucial difference:
at 85, it was a matter of course to xp very slowly since it was the top level. It felt like "whatever, I'm finally there!"
Now, as everyone has been thrown down to the bottom, the race is starting anew. At least for some people, it feels like they are climbing back to the top at a turtle's speed, it it is extremely discouraging.

It gets even more frustrating when we realize that the majority of players (except those few from the top clans) will never get there any time soon, while it shouldn't be like that. If we take a look at Korean and Russian servers we'll find out the grind there is much easier.

From what I gathered from Russian forums, they got to lvl 87/88 within a few days after the launch of GoD, then to lvl 90 within a couple weeks, and finally there are first lvl 97+ there, after 2 months. But they do have premium accounts with 2x rates + xp runes and other stuff that helps them constantly level at 5x-6x rates. Also, they did have an advantage of exploiting the "overbuff feature" (imagine Anakim group AoE when everyone's MAtk is over 90k) and increased drop rates on full items.

Nostalgia is when you remember something fondly. Nothing I wrote implies such. I also don't know what you mean about getting whole levels until 86. You've been misinformed, at 84, where I'm at now, with full vit and +200% from having a mentor, I get .01 per mob. It's roughly the same speed I was leveling at before GoD with the double XP event. And I remember well the times from launch to C3. But it's not 2005 anymore. I'm saying the experience is slower than it was before GoD (I.E. High Five), which is puzzling considering everyone was saying we were becoming WoW. If we had kept the XP rates the same as they were at launch this whole time, we wouldn't be talking right now.

This sums up my complaints about the speed of leveling in other threads PERFECTLY. Thans you Aconyte.

Sounds like you read wayyy too much into the patch notes like a lot of us did. You're in for a surprise at 86. I hope you like swamps. :)
Seems to me thus far that leveling post-85 continues to be very much party-based. It's not realistic to expect rapid progress in solo areas, at least in the Swamps. Anyone who is depending on that area for their primary source of XP is surely a bit disappointed. It's more something you do to knock out the daily quest when you have no better activities lined up.

I think many of us had been expecting a return to reasonably easy leveling up until the 90s, but we didn't take into account the severe nerf of vitality items, the business model that does not provide premium accounts (not necessarily a criticism, there; just an observation), and the fact that our cash shop is still very new and not yet full of quite as many helpful goodies as shops in other regions.

I'm not really dissatisfied with my rate of leveling right now except that I think the nerf to vitality items was quite unnecessary and should have been announced in any case. We're also still learning the game over again and will no doubt figure out best leveling strategies with practice.
0.01% a mob, on lvl85, just with new vitality. That's private server lvling speed right there, and on field type mobs as well. Not even in the party zone.

Come on, are you even trying? ;)
People made lvl50-80 getting 0.01 a mob early and higher up 0.01 every 5-10 mobs before.

Sethonan:
Hah! Those were the days.
I remember kiting Drakes in Dragon Valley with Gastraphetes. And even more absurdly, i remember one guy who got lucky getting an Eminence Bow.
"Lucky".
As in, he then sold his gastra, only to find out that he couldn't exp anymore because the Emi sucked up his mp so much faster.

I'm really expecting this:

-If normal quests are 500-600 mobs, epic questing will be 12 thousand.

And one of the reasons I left was because it took too much time to do anything at LOW levels, people started 3 or 4 boxing or just full party boxing and I didn't join to do that, I joined to play with people; this patch brought back partying at all levels as it is productive and efficient.

I never expected to get to 99 in a month either, and I'm glad it is not feasible with casual play; I'm fully aware some people will spend hardcore in EXP items and share accounts or just bot their way up again, you can't prevent that.

IF 86-99 can be done by partying 3-4 hours a day in 4-5 months, that's perfect with me, what worries me more is how much money you make post 86.

I'm 65 right now, levelled thrice today playing "casually" over 6 hours; but I am not seeing a ton of money if I don't do the daily at least; what really worries me is: will I be able to afford at least low S grade gear by the time my 30 day S set runs out? I am not even talking about enchanted gear, or top for that grade; just gear that will allow me to hunt normally without having to rely again on several alts to grind money.

I know I can get by by buying bound B grade and some bound A grade if I save some 16 million adena before I run out of packages from the other toons, but I am considering myself a noob again, since I don't know half the content and the old one just plain don't cut it for making the money needed relatively fastI think that would be the real issue for me, not taking forever to reach level 99.

yeah I mean, I am not complaining about the right now because I am hunting on top A grade stuff and weapons are enchantd to +4; we get enough free soul shots to level steadily before having to spend a dime.

And I somewhat understand the "complaint" as in; people that have been playing over 5 years, already went three or four times through "endgame" only to go back at it again, and for what, 13-14 levels.

I am expecting to hit 86 before year's end; then I'll see.

16 Million?

Did you have a look at giran luxury store?

There should be unidentified weapons (they come with a random SA) and S grade armors for sale.
At roughly 6.5m a weapon and 3m a set.
If you have that money now, i dont see the 30 days limit on the free stuff being a problem?

One word comes to mind when reading that: Why?

Are people actually having fun sitting in a dark corner of a catacomb pulling mobs all night? Shouldn't the focus of a game be it's content and not a competition to see who can endure the most grinding?

Perhaps that's why this breed of game is dying, at the very least here in the west. Seriously, I've heard horror stories of people ditching life to raid in WoW but if people do the same to grind in L2, not even doing content that is remotely challenging or intriguing, then I'm really worried for those people.

The only possible fun to be had with what you described would be talking in a voice channel with friends while doing that. But, really...surely wouldn't said friends be having just as much if not more fun shooting the breeze while playing something more engaging than repeating a very monotonous task?

Don't worry about the waste of life.
Many players played about 2 or 3 hours a day live, pvping, chatting and talking on voice servers for fun, and used a bot for the other 21hours.
One of my clannies already pked a bot train in the Ye Sagira exploration area. A bot train, in the lowliest of newbie areas. Darn it, i knew coming back would be an error :o
And worst of all, the guys won't even lvl faster than somebody simply doing the 30min quest chain to lvl20 -_-

Just a small note ! Free S grade set (weapon ,armor & jewels) runs out after 90 days not 30 days like D,C,B,A !
Other then that, carry on :)

Oh that's a relief certainly. Now how much money should I expect from a 3 hour grind session?

I've seen stuff at the merchant of mammon, and what I don't want to be doing is grinding months for a single scroll again.
And the jewels? armor alone is worth nothing without jewels.
Jewels too, just didn't look at them too closely.
The A grade ones cost a million for a necklace, and the unidentified S ones are cheaper.

edit: how's your luck been regarding armor, weapon and enhancement pouches?
I've only done the quests to lv34 on the US server, got maybe 4 pouches total in the time. Only Armor.

It is fun. what is not fun is doing that for weeks just to get one measly level when not in end game range.

I sincerely think that one level a day post 86 solo would be too much; but half a level? one third? not that bad.

In this game the levels by themselves don't mean a lot unless coupled with adequate gear and a deep bank to pay for the hunting expenses.

What should we expect R shots to cost? around 250a each? or more? A goes for 75+ and S I've seen near 90 and that's one change I liked: you can play now "grinding" normally, and still come ahead of your expenses with a nice profit, or at least steady.

That was another thing of old; this was a game you had to play with a calculator handy; to check if you were coming up short with the adena drops; not all mats are profitable.
I can rely on adena alone now.

So you guys tell me, after expenses how much can I expect to make playing normally post 76? one million a day? less? more? How much time to make a million adena in drops alone? On the Warlord I am getting around 500k before expenses on a buff round, and I actually made less during party play in ToI so far, but still getting ahead (full tallum and doom gloves I can crystalize and sell, or exchange for treasure boxes with the reconstruction guys).
Jewels too, just didn't look at them too closely.

I've only done the quests to lv34 on the US server, got maybe 4 pouches total in the time. Only Armor.

Got C grades in cruma, around 8; also all armor and got one enchant armor C, got B grades in the 1st and second floor of ToI, got one enchant weapon B from them.

It really is luck, korean mode grinding will net more drops of that, and solo play (since in party you add random loot to it)

Cruma I was only in for a couple of levels, I have been more in ToI and probably keep hunting there until I reach the topmost levels; really good exp but crappy money drops; you have a good chance of walking out with gloves or boots and crafting pieces top B at the bottom, A grade from 4th floor up.

Just for comparison, I don't know how it was up to High Five, but in GoD I've gotten myself two full unbound A grade gloves, and I've seen a couple guys in my parties get boots and gloves too and enchant scrolls. since I don't know what the market price is for those, I would gather it's best to crush them and sell the crystals/craft shots; all of this in roughly 12 hours of playtime there.
I don't think I have been very lucky, apparently full item drops are common now.
Does anyone know how long it approximately takes from 40 to 75 ? I'm 47 now, took me about 2 evenings casual gaming ^^

Guild (Hades/Elisium) partying was fun, good time with friends, chatting on vent as we ground our way through groups of mobs. The odd "mishap" as a massive crit would pull the hole group off the tank and listening to him swear as he got them all back. good times. Life before WoW and the eroding of the grind in L2, lol.

It's funny stopped playing before C3, came back for f2p to find all my chars no longer exist (suppose makes sense 'gustin' doesn't exist either, lol) But leveling is so quick now, it didn't really matter
Well, this thread sort of went off track lol. To the people returning to the game, yes you're leveling fast, yes it seems like a world of difference compared to back in the day (and that's a good thing), but it is also pretty slow 86+. The level 88's (like all 2 or 3 of them) are popping bday pots, using 50% xp/sp runes, receiving 10% mentee buff, leveling in top groups, and playing like no-lifers for the past week. Remember, we're talking about 86 being slow (not 90+), and the curve only gets rougher it would seem. You can't really compare what you're seeing 1-70 with what it's like 86+. Totally different ball game.

To the OP: SOA or Ruins are the best spots I've seen so far if you have a good party. If you don't then you're going to die a harsh death there. I could see a handful of lvl 90's in a few more weeks, but I'm pretty sure it'll depend on how many bday pots or other vit maintaining pots they have. Like you, I've been busy since launch, so I'm not as far along as I could be. Hoping to catch up later in the month when I'll have time to no-life it for a bit.
yeah I mean, I am not complaining about the right now because I am hunting on top A grade stuff and weapons are enchantd to +4; we get enough free soul shots to level steadily before having to spend a dime.

And I somewhat understand the "complaint" as in; people that have been playing over 5 years, already went three or four times through "endgame" only to go back at it again, and for what, 13-14 levels.

I am expecting to hit 86 before year's end; then I'll see.

The s grade gear is all 90 days, you don't only have a month. Don't worry too much about it. For me I've leveled to 74 so far on Shilen, I have 40 mill adena and got a Blood Tornado, Bloody Orchid and 2 BW Robe Tunic's that I haven't even tried to sell yet. Both A weapons are worth 20 mill in crystals and not sure what the tunics will go for. But that is all in a week of playing. ;)

Partying generally gives much less adena while leveling too, while I've been leveling solo nuker the entire way.
I've started lineage2 on november 28th, pre-god (chuckle on 2 days before expansion). I've played some semi-hard games related to grinding, at least in the last lvls zone ( shaiya, diablo2).
I found that after over 25 hours i hit 18 or 19 as an kamael, getting used to the game system & stuff like that.
AFTER the GD came out, i've hit lvl 20 in 8 hours of LAGFEST in shilen...so i quit it, then got to 20 in about 1 hour on chronos, on which i still play now...i get the idea of fast-forwarding the towards the 80+ grindfest.
I enjoy grinding and atm am working on a fun class, DE BD, which is almost 70 with 4 days of semi-grinding 15+h per day.
Some guy in this topic said about hard making money. I was worried i got to 20 with 1m, 40 with 2m...at 68 i bought about 15k ssa with little over 1 mil..and made 1 mil back by grinding 1-2 hours. I am aware alot of old players will say "this is not my game" but for me, as a newcomer, i enjoy the progressive difficulty and most importantly expect hell after the awakening.

Now about the vitality "issue". I don't get what you're complaining about. 1-40 is so EASY a 5-year old can do it too...well tbh the whole game but anyway. PRE-GD i understand you had to replenish your vitality with lots of pots. FULL VITA = x2 exp right ? WELL, after 40 you get a PERMANENT x2 buff from being a mentee ( and be lucky like me to have a 24/7 mentor online). BESIDES THE MENTEE BUFFS you also get VITALITY..in theory x4 exp..in fact around x3 exp with that. So why complain? GET a MENTOR and get to the hard lvls. I did however fully empty the VITA BAR and am a bit concerned about leveling past 76, when i believe i'll empty it much faster.

Anyway, ISO ways to preserve my vita bar more time.
ALSO, after 85 you still get 30% exp from mentees ( i heard 10% per mentee, max 3 mentees per mentor)..+ the VITA bar..which is STILL imo better than pre-GD...until the vita bar gets empty rofl. I am personally SAVING the full vita bar refill for the 80+ when you say dailies are over.

I also have a problem finding out a leveling path. So many quests, so much outdated info on internet..i said eff them all and except pailakas and dailies and the forest of dead vampire quests ( which is pretty much hidden grinding) i avoided quests. Ow and kamalokas..this word is WEIRD..the exp is awesome..but then again, good luck finding squads for all the kamas, with all the flood of noobs coming in.
For serious, 4-5 months that would be the 65-70 grind back in the days. Since then they've lowered the amount of xp to level and you get more xp then the mobs used to give.

If anything what NC has done is gone back to basics with the leveling. They lowered the amount of xp to level so that you weren't getting 10mill+ once you do hit 9x status. From what I understand there are still alot of bugs with some NPC's and certain Quests that claim to be daily both on the website and in game when in actuality they are one time only quests.

I can't honestly speak for the 85+ grind as I've been too off and on with this game to have made it there yet, but it is a grinding game so grind on.

Vitality doesn't have a specific amount before its empty it has a time duration. I don't know exactly how it works but everyone gets 20 hours of Vitality each week and it looks like the time is only counted while you are in combat with an NPC because i've done the over night shop thing and my vitality didn't go down. Vitality is 2x xp, mentee is 2x base xp, so its a total of 4x, and the path to awakening will allow you to get vitality replenishers and maintainers..

Vitality replenishers and maintainers..that sounds good :)
the mentee + vita bar seems like an x3 to me. I level only solo or duo, if i can't find an awesome squad in TOI. For instance, today, i was getting 67k exp per mob with 0 vita..and 20 min before maintenance it bumped to 97k ( after vita bar refill)..in a duo, with mentee buff of course. x4 feels so in solo play.
I am just returning , since it's free now, after 2+ years of not being here.

I started during open beta and played on & off since then. The EXP grind is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooo
much better than it used to be. This is one thing I am grateful for.

I won't list the things I am not grateful for, as it would take hours.
Some improvements are better than none.
Sounds like you read wayyy too much into the patch notes like a lot of us did. You're in for a surprise at 86. I hope you like swamps. :)

Grind isn't too bad. Ace made 10% on Monday at 85 (only to lose 3% in pvp in the subsequent days QQ). Hmmm, Ace thinks we're in the same ally. Unsure why you're having such a hard time grinding. We'll make some parties to get you higher in no time. ^_^

A friend of Ace's made a full lvl at 83-84 in one day of hard grinding in gc but it was 200% with full vit for about 12+ hours.

Also heard a few people are now 88, but it does seem slow but still not as bad as the old 79 grind. Ace remembers doing dino aoe parties for 10+ hours only to make 1%. It just stinks that at 85 you're basically at lvl 1. As new characters can assumedly get 1-85 in a month. So for our years of xping and hard grinding, a brand new char can do all that work in 1 month QQ. Least we have more adena then them, even though it looks like r grade weapons are far superior to s84 weapons. Unsure about armor though.

I think you are missing something... Clearly the person you quoted is talking about 86+ and yet you mention xp at levels 85 and below.

1-85 xp was drastically reduced. 86+ is new, and almost crazy in the amount of xp needed (as it should be!)

Maybe, sorry there was supposed to be two parts to Ace's response?

First part, this person earlier in the thread said they were 84. See post 10 ish of this thread. So, wanted to insure they were 85 fast so they can awaken, especially if we're in the same ally. At 400% xp (full vit mentor, bday cakes) it goes quite fast.

Second part, was Ace's person opinion of how hard it is to xp at 85+. And the sadness coming from essentially getting reset back to lvl 1. Right now the grind doesn't seem too bad. At least not as bad as it was at 79 was pre-server mergers.
From what I understand there are still alot of bugs with some NPC's and certain Quests that claim to be daily both on the website and in game when in actuality they are one time only quests.

Does are people who thinks dailys are like in WoW, Aion , etc ! In Lineage 2 "dailys" are like you get 4 quests named "daily" at 60 let's say! But you are allowed to make once each day. So you will finish all 4 quests in 4 days! Then follow up with more as you level up. So basically those are single/daily quests! Erm, hope you got the point! I am to tired to make a better explication!
An easier exemple actually, is when u see the quest mark above the Adventure Helper NPC head, and when you are trying to click "Quest" and get the common message: You are not ............. , then it means you already made a "daily" that day, and you will be able to start a new one the next day!
I really have no sympathy for those who feel this is a 'Grind' ... lol.

Where are you getting this from? lol My vit goes from full to empty in 30 minutes.
