Strider is a mount to make you travel faster. Don't need it as such if you are awakened as you already have a mount with a speed boost. Wolf is pure DD. Wolf's top weapon has around 517 p attack or more.. My wolf is lvl 88 now and his p. attack with enchanter buffs is over 4k with warriors harmony. I don't have a strider or gardian strider but judging from the weak p. attack of their top weapons, I don't see one beating a wolf in DPS.
Star Striders are useful for monsters with high P.Def. (and low M.Def.), like for example I used to hunt in the Catacombs with a Star Strider during the Competition Period, where they were good against the Nephilim, and with a Fenrir during the Seal Validation Period, because the wolf bites faster through those squishy Lilim. One advantage of a Star Strider as compared to a Fenrir is, apart from the cheaper food, it's low MP consumption - you can go nuking indefinitely, also in hunting grounds without MP Herb drops. At present my Star Strider is only 76, but one day I might try whether this beast will enable me to spoil the dinos on Primeval Isle :)
