What does NCSOFT wants?

Whats the point of making a MMO free after sooooo many years of retail if the ones who played it since 2005 (in my case) paying every single month cant login anymore because the server is crowded?

Simply, NC wants money, if before with P2P, L2 coundn't make money properly(it could have the same fate of L1 in NA), maybe F2P scheme can do it well.

But there are a lot of boxed buffers in game, let's say that, there are 30-40% of dual-trial box per server, certainly they contribute to the high traffic on the servers, because the actual number of players didn't make the servers too heavy as they are now.
LoL this thing its not beneficial only for nc soft man paying a monthly fee in these days is a competition cuz there are soo many mmos better than l2 and think about nc lost many players from this, now with f2p i think the acctualy players are like 2x soo i think evrybody want's 2 play with a loot of ppl and the things u can buy with nc coins arent soo op i mean u can farm for them the xp isant soo bad. I think this is the best thing they done cuz there is more competition lots of ppl just moved on to something else start thinking man when guild wars 2 come most of mmo's player will go there cuz from what ive seen thats the NEXT LELVEL of this genere and nothing can compete with it soo l2 done a good thing 2 keep the players here :)
srry for enghlish mistakes :)
As I said in another thread, L2 doesn't have stamina anymore to continue P2P and attract and keep new players, there are so many other new MMOs with more attractive gameplay than L2(a lot of people hate click to move, for example) and more attractive stuffs.

So making L2 F2P can attract former private server players(there are a lot of them), they can keep the game alive buying NC Coins because they are used to make donations.

An example is Aion, it is the second most played game worldwide why? Because it has better stuffs, like modern gameplay(via wasd), more balanced classes(no problem with buffs, for example) and a better crafting system. Yes I hate Aion and faction games, but I recognize that Aion has better stuffs regarding classes, gameplay and craft. And because of this it is the top in Korea and the second most playerd after WoW, with no need to be F2P.

L2 has complicated and outdated stuffs that make it less attractive for new players. F2P is the solution to attract old players that got bored years ago or former private community instead of having a sad end as Lineage 1 here.
I see the player crying hasn't changed any all these years. If you cannot login, that's your sign you need to go for a walk, talk to a girl, spend time with family. Remember, its a game :)

IIRC Bartz used to be full back in OBT/Prelude on a regular basis, so what's the difference?

and L2 doesnt have wasd?
beside L2 is 4-5 years older then Aion
so yes F2p is a move NC need to make
otherwise, L2 might be closed
(a lot of people hate click to move, for example)

Woot i hate moving with "wasd"
<3 love click to move system

tell me about those better mmo because after playng l2 from C2 and tried something like 40 mmorpg i am still here and many players will agree with me that u CANNOT play other mmorpg after you played l2.

the same is true for people who played for example EQ2 when it launched - no other game really drew their attention.

or Anarchy Online. still going after all this time, still its original population.

people who begin playing online games will always be drawn to their original game; remember Ultima Online? how many people do you see these days raving about the good old days of Ulitma Online? none, because they are all still playing it.

Sorry, not trying to be rude here, but I would like to know where you got your information about Aion being the second most played game in the world? I find that extremely hard to believe.

I was one of the poor saps that bought into the hype of Aion. Pre-ordered and all that. I was in the closed betas and was pretty impressed initially. But within 2 months of release, my bf and I both had unsubbed along with a ton of other people. The game was all hype and didn't deliver.

When I quit, the game was full of nothing but bots and gold sellers sitting in the cities without a single thing being done. I saw more bots than legitimate players. Regardless of all the reasons I personally quit though, I just find it so hard to believe that game is #2 in the world. I know the game has been improved some since I last played, but #2? Seriously?

If I remember correctly, Aion started merging servers within 6 months of release. That's just bad. I don't have any idea how many servers Aion has now because I haven't played in a very long time. But Rift, for example, has close to 60+ servers for NA alone.

And as I said, I'm not trying to be rude, I'm really not. But to hear that Aion is the 2nd most played game in the world literally made me sit here in total disbelief.

And to the OP. This expansion and new F2P model hasn't even been released a week. It can be frustrating to not be able to log on, I agree. But I'm sure it will die down soon and it won't be so crazy just trying to get on a server. If they would implement a queue system, that would almost be better than constantly trying to log in and getting the server is too populated problem in my opinion.
NCsoft will get their revenue ( from other games ) and mainly from Lineage 2 by Donation shop! to have more exp for example EXP RUNES, see invicible things etc

you right,
however theres smell of lineage funerals not so far and players are worry about this, let's face it, ncsoft is milking the last dollars.
the game should have evolved before, now it's too late, we still use u2 engine cmon..

This graphic shows that, but L2 data ends in 2009(probably before merges), after this year L2 lost more and more players. Aion lost players in America/EU but an Aion server in NA/EU has twice the number of players in our L2 servers even after F2P. In places like korea, china and taiwan, Aion is more played than L2 nowadays.

Well, I'm pretty shocked by that. I don't doubt that Aion has more subscribers than L2 had in the last year or so. Although I myself, prefer this game to Aion any day of the week. Aion may be more user friendly and have more extras, but it's honestly a joke in my book. Each zone had the same mobs with different names. Fun stuff :P. Not to mention if you want to explore, good luck to you. What is there to explore? And the wings that can be used in very few places and for such a short period of time? Umm, yeah. Perfect World does better than that :p.

Lol anyways, sorry for my rant on Aion. I just felt very duped by that game. So much so that anytime I see a new game being hyped (Star Wars The Old Republic for example), I shy away very, very fast. I don't want hype. I want a decent game. Now my bf and I have both pre-ordered SWTOR. He is just a massive Star Wars fan and beyond excited about it and talked me into pre-ordering with him. We were in a couple of betas and the game seemed awesome. But still in the back of my mind I'm thinking "Another hyped up Aion?" :p

Interesting chart though. I looked at the website it's from and it was interesting to see the numbers for a lot of these games. I guess Aion just wasn't such a hit in NA. I know quite a number of people like Aion, just not anyone I know personally lol. Still just shocked to see it be so high on the list in any country to be honest.

You're ******ed if you think Aion is better than anything, I'd rather play nintendo games before I play Aion.
Now if you plug Lineage 2 Asian subscriptions in that graph, you will understand that having NA servers purely for profit reasons is a total waste of time and resources.

As I see it, we get to play on NA servers because NCsoft wants to have some kind of representation in here and they would be perfectly happy if NCsoft West floats around breakeven point.

I bet in Asia there are more Lineage 1 subscriptions than all games combined on that graph.
