I don't know if Sace you will see this, but something i'd like to recomend, having the Mentee buffs makes it so you cannot get any newbie buffs and if you mentor logs out you lose all your buffs instantly... there have been occaisons that when the mentor logs out or get DCed I am standing there fighting a group of mobs with suddenly no buffs. Is there any way so that when the mentor logs out they get like a 30 second time or something? Just something so we don't get killed because of a DC that doesn't even happen in party?
Would be nice to see how it works, but I guess I'll have to wait another year till I hit 85... Shame tho, I see so many people wanting to be mentees, but not many people are hitting 85 every day..

You can still get it. I had some characters made before GD too, and as soon as I leveled one to the next Path to Awakening milestone, I got the reward for that. I could not claim the rewards for the previous level milestones though.

Quite right, the list is missing. I wanted to put it in but had some concerns over possible bad localization of some of the items. I'll remove the "Available items included:" part from the website page for now, until I can provide a full list with confidence. :)

Yes but you can have the "Mentor's Drum Melody" buff from l2 ingame store. "Supplies" tab, scroll at the end, "Mysterious Scroll - Drum Melody" :]

You graduate when you reach level 86. As soon as you reach that level, your Mentee buffs are removed. Then you can turn in your Mentee's Certificate in exchange for the Diplomas.
Is there any chance that us existing players can get Mentee certs? If you think about it, all you're doing is allowing all the private server influx to catch up and get ahead of all your old time "paying" customers.
Someone who is brand new can easily catch up to me by the time I reach 84 and I'm 81 right now!!!!

As posted on the Mentoring page and previous in this thread, we do not currently offer the Mentee Certificate by any other method than through the Path to Awakening. But, we may enable more ways to get it in the future. :)
If i can be excused for a moment. It's clear on the website that both players need the mentor/mentee certificate. Things that i discovered doing myself through trial and error which will save people a lot of time.
Mentor Certificate: Goes to the player who is 86. If you don't have one hopefully you got another toon on the same account that is pre lvl 40 otherwise make one and get it to 40. Complete the class transfer quest at lvl 40. Now for the important part. For your lvl 86 toon to be able to get the mentor certificate you must first claim the reward via the website. Now the reward will be distributed to the dimensinal merchant. Make sure you dont claim the reward with your lowbie lvl 40 toon otherwise you will need to repeat the process as the item is not tradable. Make sure you claim the reward from the dimensional merchant with your lvl 86 toon. Once he has the certificate you can then be a mentor.
For the mentee you do the same, lvl to 40 claim the reward with any other toon you want to be the mentee with through the dimensional merchant.
They both need to have the certificate on them all the time from what i see. I hope this helps.
I'm glad you promote mentoring system but i think some things should be modified.
After a contract is canceled, the Mentor is unable to make a contract with a new Mentee for seven days. A Mentee receives no penalty for cancelling a contract; the Mentee can accept a new contract immediately.
As you see, only mentor get penalty. So, a mentee can block all free mentors on server by joining and then leaving. Same happened to me on Naia after someone asking me to be his mentor and in 1 minute after invite he left and i got 7 days penalty. When i asked why he left he only smiled. Where was my fault here? Why to be mentor to people if a mentee can lock me for 7 days and he is free to block all server free mentors? Why my penalty is so long? I think you should reconsider about mentor's penalty time and about no penalty for mentees.
2nd question: The mentee certificate can't be transferable on same account thru Dimensional Merchant or there is a lvl limit? Before last maintenance the transfer was possible and now the contract can't be seen anymore in tradeable items list.

Wrong! I know a lot of people with penalty invite because another mentees left after they joined. Me and some other friends are now in penalty period. Isn't our fault because we can't invite. Look in every town and you will see a lot of high level people and pm them and you will see that ussualy they are full or they have invite penalty. :(

Wow. That was a pretty sickening (and possibly abusive) move from the mentee. That sucks.
Maybe the one who initiates the cancellation should get the penalty, whether it be the mentor or mentee.
If NC Korea had the same problem, I wonder what they did about it, if anything at all.

I can't say is the best solution because a mentor that isn't too much active, the mentee have to leave to find another one to make lvl faster and receive buffs. So, i think a mentee should get penalty if mentor isn't online at least xx hours/day or if mentor is online. Same rule should be applied to mentor if mentee don't make xx xp /day or isn't online xx hours / day. And should exist 1 more rule: mentor or mentee can't initiate cancelation before 72 hours after join (this is an example too).
I must to admit that mentoring is good idea because both parts receive bonuses but some people just like to make jokes because they found a bug in the mechanism. By example now i have 1 mentee because of penalty and the second people left after 1 min after i invited him and i didn't had the chance to invite 3rd mentee. For this only mentee i'm ingame almost 24/24 7/7 and reward is small because of invitation penalty. And don't forget that i will be his mentor until his awakening.

Sace we dont want to wait too long, cause by the time u guys implement it to old players, all new players will be way ahead of us... im 82 DC now not that many ppl want me in party cause 1) all are lowbies, 2) party consist of 7 ppl 3) all awakened Iss Enchanters way better then DC so no parties for us...i say send mentee scrolls to all pre GOD accounts in ur next maintanence :P
before i got 5 invites in 2 hrs now i get 1 invite in half a day ( even tho im a DC
So can't we just make it no penalty for contract break so no one gets trolled?
Edit: In some Korean foruns i saw that the mentor recieves some buffs to help the mentee (2 hr duration, harmony class)

AFAIK, the mentee certificate was not tradeable via Dimension Keeper if a character already claimed it. You have to make sure the character you want to get Mentee status claims it. Maybe some people confused the different options of claiming items from the Dimension Keeper. The rewards from Path to Awakening are claimed seperately and it is from the very first option when you talk to the Dimension Keeper and once you claim the rewards from Path to Awakening, you cannot transfer it via the keeper anymore.
So if you raised a lowbie alt to be able to get the Mentee certificate for your main who was already over level 40 when GoD went live, you should be doing these steps.
Alt lowbie succesfully completes 2nd Class Transfer Quest.
You log-in to Path to Awakening, choose the Server and the character and see if you can claim Reward.
You should immediately get a notification that your items are ready to be picked up from the Dimension Keeper. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT claim the items with the Alt.
Re-log to your Main Character and and go talk to the Dimension Keeper. Use the first option when given the choice on what business you have with the Keeper.
Look for your Mentee Certificate from the list among the goodies sent to you and claim them.

Well, i think 1 friend of mine never will get now the certificate on main char. :( Is anywhere posted by NC West a tutorial to get certificate on main for characters that made lvl 40 before GoD or is just a "backdoor" in the mentee system? Or maybe Certificate should be tradeable thru Dimensional Merchant and doesn't work as it should be?

Yes it is getting out of hand. what do u expect. Every time something possibly great is added to the game, that might help ppl level, NC sits down have a brainstorm on how they can ruin it for the players.
The other problem here is, if sace or one of the other gm's say, yes this is wrong we will look into it, they gonna admit they made an error, and that aint gonna happen.
Just look at the dynasty promotion, first the destiny weapons couldnt break, but would become 0, then just before launch they changed it, and even tough ppl complained over this, did nothing. The same thing happened for the vitality potions in those packs, and for every other vit pot/cake with out saying.
And if u make a ingame petition about this issue, they will either tell u something completely unrealated to your query, or say that this is how its ment to be, and u can discuss it with other players on forum. In other word, inkompetent GM's who doesnt care 1 tiny bit about a major issue.
I really hope sace and the other Head GM's will get onto this, and we can get some kind of update that doesnt have to wait for the next big patch, couse then it will be to late.
Atleast some ackogledgement that this is a problem, and they will look into this, insted of pointles answers from lower ranking gm's who are completely clueless.
Mentor system is the best thing added in along time, but its flawed and useless as it is right now.
and just to tell how bad it is. If u as mentor has 3 mentees, and they leave at the right times. they can give u a 21 day penalty, and u cant do anything about it. This is about as bad designed system as it could be.

Also, should be a good improvement to increase number of mentees/mentor up to 5 or 7 slots (this i don't think is hard to modify in the game because i have a lot of friends that want mentor and i can't help them :( ).
The amount of posts I see in chat of people insisting they need active mentor, or asserting that they, themselves are active would-be mentees (and therefore, should be given priority over others) suggests to me that there are insufficient mentors for mentees that would sign up...why would I want to join them in wasting my time clogging up the chat?

Worked, but u have to claim it on the webside with Alt and then login ur Main and claim items from Dimensional Merch. with ur Main in game.

You're already awakened you can't be a mentee anymore, it's only for pre awakened toons.
As for abusing the mentor system, we had to restrict mentoring to only in Clan or at most in our Alliance where we can keep tabs on players. It sucks for players that are not clanned but someone ruined it for them
I think the bigest problem with the mentor/mentee system is that the mentee's think the mentor must be on 24/7 for them and if you are not then they boot you. They then cause the mentor to have a penalty over it and they can go their merry way with no penalty. The mentee should not expect the mentor to be on 24/7 for their beck and call.
It is a courtesy that someone took you for their mentee and should not be taken for granted.
I think there should be no penalty if the contract is broken with in the first 72 hours, then after that who ever does the breaking of the contract gets the penalty.
I took on a mentee from my clan and because I was not on for them for 1 day they booted me and left me with a penalty. I then could not mentor a long time RL friend when his toon got to L40, which caused him to have to wait to lvl his toon till I could take him on as my mentee.
The mentor buff is nice for the mentor and absolute hax for the mentee, BUT it is also causing A LOT of people to stay logged in 24/7 to get the benefits for both. Also, and I am planning to do this myself as well as many other people I know, I will be making my own mentee who I can leave logged in for me while I xp, AND just about every awakened character out there will ALSO be doing this.
SO this system is causing a lot of lag and server overpopulation with afk people and I am sure also contributing to NOT BEING ABLE TO LOG IN AT ALL on the weekends... gf
If you are going to give out such hax buffs, just make them to stay up ALL the time, so people do not have to be online all the time, lagging up the server and being afk taking server spot away from people who actually want to play at that time.

Just one problem for me now. I did awaken, but my mentor/mentee contract didn't end. I still get mentor buffs when my mentor comes online, can't accept mentees myself, and (worse of all) I can't exchange my mentee certificate for diplomas :(

you won't get anything till u hit 86 and the pony = horse ? if so it's part of a box you should have in your inventory..

And yeah, pony is the mount. s dwarf we can't ride horses so I get a pony :D But it was not in the box though. Had 5x 100M SP scroll, 2x attr-cry and 5 pots. Ticket I made is escalated to senior support now, so lets wait & see...

the implication is that, since only Mentee benefits from the graduation, Mentors may cancel the contract instead of waiting for the mentee to grind to 86 so they can get more mentees for more rewards when they beeline through fast early levels. unless of course Mentor can accelerate mentee's progress through 85 level by power leveling them in under 7 penalty days they would otherwise receive.
of course to be sure we need to know if 86 level reward marks are more than all previous marks combined which would justify the waiting.
does it actually work and can it get you banned? because the guide says pre-GoD 40+lvl characters are 'not eligible'.
Why would it ? It's almost a needed thing, say if you have a toon that is already 76/85 +, but you haven't started a new sub yet, when you choose that sub, your class change is already done so I don't think you can get the certificate to become a mentee otherwise~~

bad idea, you get 2012 coins when mentee reaches 86.
i check in random time befor 2 hours to see my mentees progress and i saw only 2 from 3 in list.
i try to invite a new one to check the penalty,but no penalty was on,so i succesfully invite a new mente.
after some time i did restart and on list was my 3 old mentees.
the strange is that i dont get coins from the new mentee lvl up either the bonus exp.instead of me this "mentee" take the bonus exp/sp and buffs even if im offline lol

So , if ppl from Bartz hit 86 without having mentor (since a lot of ppl are low lvl) , they won't get any diplomas at all?
If so , it would be quite annoying imo...and I do hope the certificate does what it says - 1st is to allow the person owning it to become a mentee , and 2nd - to reward ppl who hit 86 with diplomas (note that with the words used , it is not even hinted that one needs a mentor when hitting 86 to claim rewards , but I am really not sure... >< ).
If anyone can give a solid info on the matter , it would be much appreciated!

The item descriptions for those boxes say that you get a random reward of a certain selection:
Improved Giant's Box: R-grade Scroll: Enchant Giant, Hair Accessory Enchant Scroll, or Hair Accessory-type Life Stone.
Improved Soul-trap Box: R-grade Unbind Scroll, R-Grade Enhance Backup Stone, Superior Giant's Codex, or R-grade Scroll: Enchant Weapon, or Enchant Armor.

and what about chars who was 40+lvl before GoD launch? i want exp few of them as mentee but i can't get mentee sertificate or how that item named.. and i cant get anything from website for those chars. i see only "Not Eligible *" for items for lower levels, and "Future Goal" for higher. but whgen i reach 40lvl i get "Not Eligible *" once again.
so question is: what quest i have to do, to get mentee certificate?

In order to get the mentee certificate for the char that was 40 lvl ++ before god , u must create another chat make him 40, do the class quest + then enter in site and claim the reward.When u log ingame u will enter with the 1st char and claim the certificate with him from the dimension merchant.
The mentoring system is really broken. I had my pc on 24/7 for a week for my mentees, there was a thunderstorm here last night and my internet was down for 23 hours. In those 23 hours 2 of my 3 mentees left me and I get a 7 day penalty, while they get nothing at all.
Can't really use this system , everybody asks for money, big quantities, and you have to HOPE for them to take you as a mentee.
This is unnaceptable.
99% of the people offering mentor are scamers, system fails unless you have real awakened friends which isn't easy on magmeld-shilen-bartz where most awakened characters are either boters or sick people that play 24/7.
And i'm not giving money expecting for a kind gesture of any one those...
The mentor buff is nice for the mentor and absolute hax for the mentee, BUT it is also causing A LOT of people to stay logged in 24/7 to get the benefits for both. Also, and I am planning to do this myself as well as many other people I know, I will be making my own mentee who I can leave logged in for me while I xp, AND just about every awakened character out there will ALSO be doing this.
SO this system is causing a lot of lag and server overpopulation with afk people and I am sure also contributing to NOT BEING ABLE TO LOG IN AT ALL on the weekends... gf
If you are going to give out such hax buffs, just make them to stay up ALL the time, so people do not have to be online all the time, lagging up the server and being afk taking server spot away from people who actually want to play at that time.

What's the point of forcing people to be logged in to receive the buffs? Not good for the servers. Not good for a PC to be running 24/7. Not good for my electric bill =P.
There must be some changes to the mentoring system... It's a really nice idea but thanks to a lot stupid players who don't think, you cannot find a mentor... First of all about the penalty, why only Mentor gets a penalty? 3 4 possible solutions:
a) Unable to cancel contract before 72 hours have past since you made a contract
b) The one who cancels gets penalty
c) No one gets penalty
Edit: d) Penalty goes only to 1 slot not all 3.. Means if I have 2 free slots and 1 taken, if the 1 taken leaves then only that 1 would have penalty and I would still be able to invite 2 Mentees
Most mentors now are asking for 15-20kk adena (on naia) which is IMPOSSIBLE to pay as a around lvl 60 char. I myself have around 7kk adena and I am playing 2 chars...
Why mentors are doing it? So their contract won't get canceled after joining and because all Mentees want their Mentors to be 24/7 on...
That's why you should try to improve the mentoring system, otherwise it won't just make sense..

And another idea would be increase slots to 5.
I hope you will consider these ideas and do something about it, otherwise as I said above Mentoring system will be used only on toons in max 1 month.

so what do you do if you wanted to be a mentee but somehow lost the mentee certificate
cuz i was thinkin about doin it but i think i might of trashed the certificate cuz i didnt know what it was.i searched the auction house in game but i guess it didnt have it.although it says cannot be dropped,destroyed or exchanged i guess if that means you cant trash it or sell it then maybe i have it i just didnt see it when i logged in

If you lvl up to 85 without mentor and do your awakening you still can exchange the certificate for diplomas?
And if you are 85 (without mentor) you can exchange it or you have to be 86+? Because the in-game npc clearly say that awakened players at 85 can exchange the certificate for diplomas...
Need to make clear: I am a mentee. When I give my certificate for diploma, I won't be able to become a mentor ?
I think, THINK that you get 40 Diploma + the Mentor Certificate, so you can get R Grade Items and become a Mentor^^

You can't be a mentee anymore, you can only be a mentor. (I'm not sure I understood the question correctly)

Sace, do you know that some rewards you can receive for mentee coins are bugged? Lucky enchants stones for armors not working (D,C-grade, don't know about above)! Plz fix it...

The real solution will be rly for the one who leaves\kicks to get the penalty (but i think 1 week is ok for both sides)
For the buffs i understand that they're meant to get you to 85 asap, but they make the game rly hard for the non-dmg charrs. It gets more and more rare to see full pt of low lvl players exping 'cos all u need with the mentor buffs is BD/SWS. So to keep in the old spirit of the game let the mentor buffs go on only when the mentor is on and leave the exp bonus for the mentee the whole time you have a mentor.
- For the mentors: each hour u've been out adds 4% to the bonus exp u get while you're on (for example: the previous day the mentor is out 10 hours, so after the reset at 6:30AM when he logs he gets 40% bonus exp while he is on; the time he isn't on the next day will form the bonus % for the day after the next day and so on.. hope u get the point). Thus ppl won't have to stay on 24/7 and there won't be low lvl buffers/healers praying for party.

Think 4-5% is the optimal value 'cos less won't encourage mentor to log off and more will make then stay off 23h and ply only 1h.

In this format the system is perfect to slow the clan's development. Few times wars join some clanm8с as "independеnt" mentees and leave the very same minute, then 7 days penalty -> no mentee -> no coins -> no atributes -> no pvp

1. Yes. I do it all the time. The contract is bound to your character, not your class/subclass.
2. There are 2 requirements to turn a mentee cert into diplomas: be awakened, and be lv 86. Being a mentor/mentee has nothing to do with it.
3. The mentee certificate allows one to get a mentor, to someone 86 or above, it serves no purpose other than exchanging for diplomas. You cannot make your sub a mentee with it.
4. Refer to answer #2.
5. Yes, a lv 85 awakened can still be a mentee. Yes, you just need to be awakened to be a mentor. You CANNOT be both a mentee and a mentor. So if you're 85, you have the option of being either a mentee or a mentor. You can be a mentee all the way to 85, continue being a mentee and graduate at 86, or drop your mentee status and become a mentor.

I find this very unfair, many clan members quit this game .

Mentee chars can hunt alone, i must always hunt with my buffer and healer. and exp is lower .
Please make Mentee Certificates for all players. So its very unfair i find.

Just make a new character on the same account, level it to 40 and do the 2nd Class Transfer. Then log onto your main and withdraw the Mentee Certificate from the Dimensional Merchant after acquiring it from the Path of Awakening website.

Since ( in my opinion) NC has done an injustice in letting a NA game be completely dominated by the new Euro time zone servers, i would like to know when Server Transfers to such a server as bartz( also when other account services will be available) for those NA players who would like to play on NA times.

Wouldnt the server issues be lessoned if the mentee buffs worked simply by having the mentee on your list? Whether or not the mentor is online shouldnt matter. All it does is make everyone need extra characters online, gumming up the entire server.
Simple solution, fix the mentee system to only needing them on the list to get passive or active buffs in your page and away you go, everyone is happy...
And I agree there should not be a penalty for loss of mentee when you were nice enough to sponsor the person..

Start a tune on same account...lvl to 40.....take the old tune you want a certificate for to the Dementional Merchant and collect the certificate. Delete the new tune . Doesnt take long to get to 40 espessaly on an archer or fighter
So, I just got burned... and it seems like this thread would be the best place to whine about it.
I've been wanting to work on my tank as our clan needs more Awakened ones, but he didn't have a Mentee cert (pre-GoD). So I spent last night leveling up a toon on the same account to level 40. I met some guy who seemed pretty cool, buffed him every half an hour because my Iss was just parked in town. Once he hit 40, I saw him shouting for a Mentor, and so I thought I'd bring him on. Then I went to bed.
Woke up, he broke. He broke from me a mere four hours after I brought him on. This, before I could even recruit my own tank (I didn't bother before bed because I was too tired, and I thought the penalty was per slot, not for the entire farking thing). So now I must wait a week before I can Mentor my tank, just because I was nice to someone who obviously had no patience whatsoever.
For a nice fix for the mentor buffs issue buffs should be 12 hours or 6 or something so as long as a mentor logs with in 12 to 6 hours the buffs renew. they truley speak correctly when they say over half the server is afk for mentor or sell. so give mentor buffs a LONG! timer and auction house no fee so we can open the server for more players. more players means more payers NCSOFT
The mentor system need some fix....For ex why only the mentor gets penalty 1 week? when in some cases is all fault of mentee? There are 8 Awakened classes and no one is forced to dual class, so the fact that he has 7 70+ character is possible (takes 1-2 days to get to 7x) and legitimate.
No one should be forced to delete a toon just to get a mentor certificate. They simply need to allow you to claim the mentee cert on any toon at or above level 40 - period.
There are 8 Awakened classes and no one is forced to dual class, so the fact that he has 7 70+ character is possible (takes 1-2 days to get to 7x) and legitimate.

On top of that all this pre-GoD characters above lvl 40 will have stone of destiny at them. And character with that is totally not worth being deleted imho.
