This, Friends, Is L2

They removed farmers.

They made boss jewel equivalents accessible.

They reintroduced red for a day, red forever - the perma-red concept in all its liberating and character-ending glory.

They shrank the need for 4 boxed toons down into one, and made that box a playable character.

They made reaction time and individual playstyle more important than perfect party composition and set buff rotations.

They nerfed the cp/pot spam mechanic that gave rich players such a huge advantage over poor.

They merged the private and retail communities - unifying everyone that enjoys l2 under one set of rules and game mechanics. The math doesn't cheat based on what server you're on. Chess in Moscow is chess in Chicago - a language and culture independent platform upon which to interact using a single set of rules.

This is what L2 was designed to be before farmers ripped apart retail and private servers segregated us into isolated communities.

Cash for virtual goods is the only cancer that can kill this now. NC has to keep banning for-profit players on their end. We have to maintain a culture of money for items being taboo, unacceptable and fundamentally wrong on our's.

Programs that fake being real people while automating gameplay are a lie and are wrong.

Using technology against those without it to win in a game is wrong.

Using poverty against poor people to win in a game is wrong.
no, this is not L2

- there is no need to farm materials anymore, because a big part of the game (crafting) was nerfed into the ground - so your right, there are barley anymore farmers, because no1 needs them.

- there should be epic fights for epic jewerlery - they should not been instanced or given away easy by some quest. Fights for territory has been one unique core conzept of the old l2 - it was given up way to fast and way to easy.

- penaltys for pk where ok ... but this is no penalty, this is a sentence to death - thats not how l2 should be.

- many classes with pro and contra where an unique feature offered by l2. Now we have 8 classes that basicaly every mmorg has.

etc.
L2 lost its meaning and its cool touch that separated it from other mmorpgz.
But we still play it cuz' our peeps. If they stop I guess we'll stop too. Well at least I will.
They condensed the classes from what 32 or some crazy **** to 8 because they HAD to. For what reason do you need 30+ hero's running around, additionally looking at it from the perspective of someone with the demonsword or blood sword? So what they have to run to the nearest town as quick as they can and try to sell it off to the highest bidder because they are going to get ganked by the hero's and they pretty much don't stand a chance against them when its 30+ vs 1 or 2.

I see finalElf's point through and through. The game was dying. Now it's got a flood of people coming back to test it out, so much crying over the ksing and pking and everything else.. how are these complaints different from any other patch in any MMO to ever come out? Every single MMO out there has an update that SOMEONE out there isn't going to be satisfied with.

PKing people isn't a privilage you should get to have just because you can bring your PK count back to 0 and wash your red in 10-20 kills, essentially washing it before the player can return, that system was designed for people to kill farmers/bots and not stay permared, it was NC's temp solution to botting/farming.

Now we have a major influx of people and at the end of the day you're all going to do one of two things, you'll either quit in a huff and go about the rest of your life, or you'll continue to play plain and simple.

I agree about the boss jewels, they are a privilage that you should have to fight for, and the "equivilants" aren't completely the same, they still fall a bit short of a boss jewel, and the reason behind it is that not everyone CAN get into a clan that regularly farms the bosses, sometimes its about the sheer number of people over the skill...

I can't count the number of times I've seen something like (the last time I played this was the major alliance on bartz) someone from Uprising kill someone from say Divinity and call them a nub. But not even kill them, it would be more like, they had enough time to attack back once before they got dropped, it had nothing to do with skill if a 1v1 is that lop sided, it had everything to do with gear, for a long time nobody could touch Uprising because they had all the raid bosses locked down. One person from that clan could destroy any 3-9 people in the same grade of gear due to boss jewels. (I'm not talking about how that all ended btw I'm talking about when it all started, after the release of the boss jewels, like right after the release of them I don't need flames about how that alliance ended from butthurt TD ppl)

+1 to final's post, -5 for all the ppl flaming it. That is all.
It has always been the rich against the poor and always will be... even in the virtual world. Believing, hoping or even dreaming of a place where money and power are not intertwined is a pipe dream.

You are right, but at the same time you can't complain if the poor come up and suddenly start putting up a fight, if anything that only makes the game more interesting. Where is the fun in being on top because of your gear, you don't have to even try anymore, especially not if the game is so imba that you can 1 shot someone with a regular attack. You cant call yourself "good" a the game because of your gear advantage, you can call yourself lucky that you landed in a clan of people that are dedicated and play for a long time. Yea it's unfair to you if people that don't sink as many hours into it are at competiton level with you but at the same time, where is the fun if you just 1 shot everyone you target?

What happens when another clan sinks the same amount of time and effort and becomes just as strong as you, and all you've been doing for months/years is auto attacking, you suddenly don't have the same skill they might have because they've had to claw their way up, where you've been just chillin.
Yes even in L2 the rich get richer and the poor get more bitter and hateful.... I think all you poor folk should camp in the square of Aden and host a virtuel Occupy protest with tents and folk songs. The rich will surely take notice as they are leaving you behind by WORKING or in this case grinding. With a new update you know who will end up on top in GOD? Those who grind to max level first as it always has been................

finalElf ^^! <3. +1.

I understand that. I was talking in a form of past tense. When Boss jewels were introduced the first clan that managed to get a hold of them took a more then dominant hold on the server due to the fact that nobody could beat them because they were the ONLY ones with access to those items and those items made their chars so ridiculously strong. What happened to them? Oh they got bored and basically quit. Once another alliance started to come up the ranks and finally (after about 3 months or so) aquire some boss jewels themelves, some of that first alliance returned hoping it would be more interesting. That resulted in a war that lasted about 2 years..

My point is, the reason there was even the ability for another alliance to stand up to the other one is because the first one had to physically stop raiding bosses and all out quit the game in order for another clan to even put up a fight for them..

So now instead of having something imba like that, NC has included items that have similar stats to some of the boss jewels that are obtainable through questing or instancing. Call it a method of prevention.

quoted for truth and posterity.
Cant they release the level cap every month?
Lets say when GOD was launched, max lvl you could get is 88, and it stops there. After a month this could be changed to lvl 89 and so on...
This would help others to catch up because we could still get xp while no lifers would be stuck at 100%.
Do agree with OP, just saying.
they need to add more servers cuz staring at a "due to high server traffic your log in has failed.please try again later" screen 95 percent of the time you wanna play is pretty annoying

unless its just Shilien server that has that problem but i dont know.Shiliens the server i play on so i dont really know about any other ones

Weren't you that guy back in the day that ran an anti-bot clan of reds and then got shamed off the forums for ebaying? Or am I mixing you up with someone else?
Boss Jewelry accesseble to all? Now this is something I've missed, any more info about this?

RB jewels equivalent, im sure he means oly jewels + toi ring.
+ 1 finalElf. When you think about it GoD is exactly what we have been askingfor.

And not to contend you but going red certainly doesnt make you go permared! It's a bit of a pain to get somewhere safe to xp but you can wash off a pk in a buffround! Then you can just use fame to keep ur pk count low :) You just have to be careful of how MUCH you pk!
GoD has not much to do with the current increase of players, that was 99.9% due to the F2P..

also you forgot to mention the pvp progs that killed pvp for years which are still here and massively used, pot spam isn't gone if you really thought so you obviously don't know how warrior pots works from Oly..

sorry to burst your bubble if you thought the game is now more "fair" then it was in H5
+1 Rusty, +1 Final
The combination of F2P and GoD brought many. Me and my friends are a good example. We want to try GoD, we want to return to retail, oh it's going F2P at the same time? Sold.
This was a good post.
Weren't you that guy back in the day that ran an anti-bot clan of reds and then got shamed off the forums for obeying? Or am I mixing you up with someone else?

everRed?
everRed?

Yea maybe that's it.
Just need L2Orphus forums back and it will be complete.

Maxxx
Chronos yesterday in Swamp of Screams. I wanted to record them as they blasted through the zone, rolling around like an F5 tornado but my game barely runs with lowest setting so I took a few screenshots. But yea it was a full group of 7 Elven mages, all in Exactly the same armor/weapons. 1 leading the other 6.

It could just be multi-boxing, which is perfectly legal? afaik.

But it was just like your video, everyone of thier names started with "A" and was a variation of eachother. Looked like the same clan tags in your video.

Anyway on to Finalelfs post:

I have had more positive experiences than negative (as above) so far, and so far I'm enjoying GOD. It seems easier to get parties, towns are nice and full, sometimes too full, I can barely move through some (time for new GFX card). But overall it's great to see old friends, and be back in L2. Everything is not gonna be perfect, as you can't please all of the people, all of the time. but so far the changes I've seen look fairly nice.

So yea +1 finalelf.
Lol there are still enough pve/pvp bots around.
NCWest hasnt fixed anything.
Just check Harnak's / Soa etc.
There are ppl that are already lvl 90
They removed farmers.

NCSoft didn't really remove farmers - enough people quit because of the farmer problem, which de-incentivized farmers enough to quit on their own.

NCSoft merely wiped up afterwards when it occured to them that they wouldn't lose much by banning the relatively-few stragglers that were left.

They made reaction time and individual playstyle more important than perfect party composition and set buff rotations.

They nerfed the cp/pot spam mechanic that gave rich players such a huge advantage over poor.

Neither of these matter now - the new "farmer problem" are PvP programs - PvP in this game has degenerated into a battle of whose scripts are better.

And just like the farmer problem, NCSoft claims to be doing something about it, yet hasn't and won't do any real enforcement until it becomes financially beneficial to them to trade accounts (by way of banning) for potential PR gains (claiming that they've rid us of PvP cheaters).

Cash for virtual goods is the only cancer that can kill this now. NC has to keep banning for-profit players on their end. We have to maintain a culture of money for items being taboo, unacceptable and fundamentally wrong on our's.

NCSoft's store has already taken the first steps towards providing power for cash, albeit a minor one for now.

Their first promo offered the chance at getting an Elegia weapon in addition to the Vesper Weapon that came with the pack (I'm admittedly a bit fuzzy on what the deal actually was, but I believe that you were guaranteed a free Vesper weapon + enchants you could only use on that weapon + a 1/10 chance at an Elegia weapon).

While some people may say "Who cares? It's only Elegia and Vesper!" I bet that it would probably matter to those who are around the levels where those weapons actually still provide real PvP/PvE performance differences.

And it sets a dangerous precedent where NCSoft could look at the data and feedback and use it as a basis for offering even more items for cash in their shops in the future.

Programs that fake being real people while automating gameplay are a lie and are wrong.

Using technology against those without it to win in a game is wrong.

Using poverty against poor people to win in a game is wrong.

The way this game works, has worked, and likely always will work is that those who win at PvP are awarded the best the game has to offer.

Whether or not that means powerful items or access to the most efficient XP areas, it creates a snowball effect that sees the most powerful get even more powerful over time.

And this is why PvP programs are probably more dangerous than even a cash-for-power NCSoft store - while people who have money can easy plunk down RL cash for weapons and armor, people without RL resources to fund getting the same power that way could always "win" in game to secure that power with skill, be it better XPing efficiency or access to better gear without having to pay RL cash for it.

With PvP programs, it eliminates even skillful play as an option.
There will always be farmers. Just less of them. Lineage 2 won't be as lucrative with the items from D-S going unidentified. For the most part having a Dynasty Set is now a privilage since it used to be S80 which means you could likey just buy the entire S grade gear (lowest S) from the Lux shop, and grind to 84 with just that stuff no problem, total cost is about 10mil, and all you need money for at that point is SS. Other then that you just sit on all the money you make from 76-85, once you're 86 bust out mentor status, get a couple mentee's and watch that R-grade roll in, and additionally you can likely make money off it as well.
Lol there are still enough pve/pvp bots around.

High levels does not mean botting.

Is it more likely that botting was used to achieve high levels "beyond the curve," so to speak? Yes, but it could be due to a number of factors that have nothing to do with botting.

For instance, a college student probably has a lot more time to play than say, a mother with 3 kids and a full-time job.

Just because the college student is able to get to level 90 already way before a mother who only has maybe 1 hour a day to play doesn't mean that the college student had to have botted - it just means that the college student has spent more time XPing than the mother.
ok, everything is cool, but wtf sk w/o cubics and ls ? seriously ? how am i supposed to play now ? :| that was the only char which had that something for me. And now what ? im gonna be some shiet knight like other hundreds of ppl ? thats just wrong lol
ofc i could just not lolawaken and keep my class, but im pretty sure 4th class skills are going to be imba ;x
Also i pity ppl which were farming 83 fs before :D
They nerfed the cp/pot spam mechanic that gave rich players such a huge advantage over poor.

They did? Info?
nvm...........
hahaha, yet another example of NC removing evidence of the bots left in the game (i posted a removed video) but the train remains in game.

sigh
At first I thought the PK system was horrible as well, until I got to higher levels, where I dekarma about 2k karma in 30 minutes. So yeah, so far the only complaints from me are the regular server crashes, queues (though I haven't seen them THAT often lately) and the terrible performance on otherwise decent machines.
