Ive read a lot in these forums complaining about a couple of the "new" features but it seems no one noticed about the really important changes, it´s no longer a massive multiplayer ROL PLAYING game, it became a dumbed down massive multiplayer ARCADE game.
I just played for about 5 hours and Im already at level 25 with the first profession and with the top D equipment... and i just felt sad.
I felt sad because the game lost most of the aspects i felt appealing, the first one was the reward i got when I had to work my way around and find for example; the salamander recipe as well as the hard work it took finding the pieces to build it.
And i know the amount of time and pieces one had to gather was a bit over the top, but that could have been fixed a bit by increasing the drop and lowering the amount of materials needed into fair amounts, but right now all that hard work and effort is completely eliminated and they just give the full thing to you for free. In fact they just give you all the top D equipment for free and at level 20 you have over 500.000 adena with you (which is a vulgar amount of money for low level characters).
The game wasnt just about leveling and killing each other, ROL PLAY and EXPLORATION was a huge part of the game as well and everyone played as they pleased, right now is a marathon to see who "beats the game" the quickest without a sense of accomplishment.
In the old days I remember I had a map and there was tons of information about which mob dropped what and you had to keep track and do research about the monsters you needed to kill and where to find them in the HUGE map, it made searching for materials a quest on its own and you dedicated your time finding those materials, but now since there is no real point in crafting since you receive everything for free it lost a huge part of the idea behind it. Dwarves are now little tough dudes who have the ability to create shots.
Since everything was hard to find and build It was also fun to collect the pieces of armor and weapons and show them around to friends as they were like prizes you built/bought/got from mobs, and Im not even telling about the diversity in every character since not everyone had the full sets but parts of different sets, right now you walk into gludio and everyone has the very same top D outfit, even "trying out" other outfits in gludio's stores lost its point since you already have the top gear of that class.
There were other things that made the game fun, When the Kamael expansion came out, there was a little town where you had to become a bunny in order to find some boxes, there was the race tracks where you made bets, etc. I saw those at early stages and now at level 25+ i havent seen any hint for those.
I also remembered fondly the initial areas of each race, it was fun to explore each zone and you had a sense of accomplishment when you moved out to new areas and also had a much better feel of the nature of your character, but now everyone starts agglomerated in the same island giving no real sense of purpose to you or why you choose your particular race other than how it looks.
By the way, Blizzard with the Cataclysm didnt change the initial areas and kept the game familiar to both new and old players. (Had to mention it since it's the same "world getting destroyed" thing going on).
There are many good things, but the bad outshine the good ones. For instance I love the skill system, you dont need to buy books (or mob who dropped it) and look for an NPC to buy or update the skills, and also the quest system is quite helpful in telling you what you need to do.
If you loved this game you would have an older forum account, which you don't. Of course the game changed over the years, no MMROPG stays the same look at WoW for example.
I completely agree, this game is aimed at the 14 year old f2p players now, which although unfortunate, is apparently where the money is at. Sad to know that players now will never know the joys of crafting, I mean people dont even pick up materials anymore... They give you way too much now, really hard to open a pack of S grade gear for free... The PK system? Don't even get me started. People can just ks to their heart's content and I cant do anything about it anymore. Excellent.
I've been in this game for 7 years and u bleeding hearts bother me. we all have good memories but if any of u can look me in the face and tell me that you would go back to the days of the dead server and the risk of shutting down that l1 faced, i'll laugh in ur face. There is nothing wrong with this game and as long time player i think all of us l33t fool need to get over it and just adapt. sstop whining and feeling so sombre because noone cares, lets just get back in game and have fun.
Your massive wall of a post means nothing to ppl like me that have been here for years, so stop whining and lets get back in the game.
L2 today is a 85+ game, as WoW is except that WoW is initially build with an easy xp curve, so there was only few things to change to make it even faster. And today with instant dungeon and instant teleport to dungeon you don't even need to leave the main city past lvl 10.
When you see L2 now as a real beginner with no friends, the new system is just heaven.
=> Quests to make 0-40 a simple initiation.
=> Daily quests in 40-79 to speed up the leveling and making you aware of the gringy part of L2.
=> Path of awakening so you can have stuff and not being scared of our old "im 80 with A grade cause it's too expensive" way of life.
With GoD, new player who are not hardcore or have no friends can start here and enjoy the game.
When 85, you'll find the all new lineage with its new philosophy :
=> Bound item so everyone can finally have a decent stuff.
=> Standard and blessed for those who want/can dominate the others with doulble SA and it will be hard to get those !
=> Dungeons so L2 can compete with the other games in term of PvE (they had to).
=> Almost forced wars so pvp is now possible and no one can hide again behind the one-way flag ...
=> And it's still grindy, you still have a nice and rewarding craft system (GoD 1.2 will have a raid which drop mats to craft big weapons so maybe they think about putting back important craft).
There are defaults, especially for the HCG who will see to many ease in the process but 0-85 definetely needed to be changed and for what I see, it's really enjoyable for the new players.
Challenge is now to be found in the R-grade adventure.
@Maximilius : how a forum account can show your love for a game ? ... Most people never even go on forum but played this game 7 years non stop.
@Grant : put people low hp as you now see these and let them try to farm, just have to use new way of harassing KSers, always a way !
Max is just a troll, but honestly if u spent even 5 years on dev that became pheonix that became chronos, you would never leave this game. change is good and those that complain are just not getting it.
Glenfx i completely understand what you mean (dont mind the other trolls here, L2 always had the worst MMO community ever), and i have mixed feelings about this ...
I really miss the "good old days", when you actually DROPPED your equipment when you were killed by a mob, and had to run as fast as you can to the place where you were killed to get it back before someone else did ... and you're right, the search for mats and drops (man how was i proud to display my awesome Rind Leather Armor), the exploration, the huge map, the starting villages, all of that gave its heart & soul to Lineage II, and made it really apart from all the other MMOs ...
BUT ... Lineage II was dead for a while now, and maybe *because* of those very things that made it what it was ... so, really, mixed feelings ... is it better to have an excellent dead game, or a somehow not-as-excellent alive one ?
I suggest putting down pink glasses. All those nostalgic criers for old times, who praise c4/interlude as best chronicles are wrong. I may have good memories at c4 because that is when I started playing Lineage but that doesnt mean that chronicle was good. Insane hardcorness would make it unplayable today. Dying and dropping equipment? Even tallum set almost unobtainable? Class change quest taking day or two and having to run from town to town because you cant afford using gatekeepers (even though the current 2nd class change quest is really lolish. NPC ports you right into place, you kill 3 mobs and jump from 38 to 41, well thats not the way it should be done)? Generally avoiding using gatekeepers because you dont have money for it? Necros ruling servers and sps cancel insanely overpowered? Grinding nonstop half a year just to get to 70s? You may think whatever you want but the game back then was crazy, too much hardcore and making it easier (a little bit at least) was only logical step else it would die. Even those that call for giving back c4 wouldnt play it again and server would die soon. Because there are many private servers with c4/interlude but none of those people actually plays there. No, they just love to complain but dont want to actually go through that hell called c4 again. And if someone still complains how easy the game is now, just try to get past 80 or 85 and will see how "easy" grinding is.
The only thing I miss very much is crafting. This thing really has to be resurrected somehow.

Nothing to see here people, move along.
You dont need an old "Forum" account to be an old player or love the game XD.

Making the game F2P was kind of a direct appeal to bring many new players and many of the new players might even come from the so called "private" servers to play the original game, fact is you can see how Gludio is crammed with people, so we are not really talking about having people playing or not but it's mostly about dumbing down the content so new players level really fast and all are missing the entire content of the game just focusing on level up.
How many players would take the time now and do something like the "Wishing potion" quest of level 35?, at that level now players will just rush trough random monsters leveling up since the real content of the game was literally forgotten by the developers.
Now, the new players play a few hours and they have the same level it took a long time to most of the old players, having 7 years playing as you say you do, its odd you dont mind a new player to have the same things it took you 7 years to have in just a few days or a couple of weeks with literally no effort.
I would have liked to start fresh again but not missing on the content, that's what a real Roll play game is about.

And what would you suggest? Making people exp 6 months to get to 60s, year till 85 and 2 years till 99? When you add levels in game you have to speed up leveling through the lower ones, there isnt any other way around this. It may be pity that no one will go through crafting A or B grade items again but I dont know about any solution that would fix it now when everything is concentrated around awakened players.
By the way, I do hold a grudge about the game being insanely hard before, but that doesnt mean it should be the complete opposite either. it should be a challenge not after level 80, but a balanced thing from the begining. Better drop and a fraction of the material costs to craft could have been an alternative and would have given artisans a new meaning.

It should have been balanced, not taking 6 month to be 60, but not in 4 days either.
I dont like to compare but Wow does this fairly good by using quests instead of killing huge numbers of creatures and they dont just give you the very best of the equipment right away at no cost. It has it's challenges yet it's kind of easy to go to level 80 and you still explore and have a feeling of the game while you level up.
I think what it bothers me the most is that in Lineage players only level up and that's it, no content to explore and play with anymore.

its not about the grind, its about that you probably get to 99 without ever need the help of any other player. Thats not how l2 used to be in the past ... if you where dead, you needed to know a bishop who was willing to help you, if you wanted something to craft, you needed to know a dwarf, if your where a dd and want to level fast you needed to know a buffer, if you droped gear you had to call your friends to pick it up for you, if you wanted some special armor part, you needed a spoiler to get it out of a mob for you ....
some1 ever played Ultima Online? ... That was a simulation of a midle-age world with mages and knights and so on .. everything was allowed, killing and murdering, there where even thiefs that could steal your hard earnd stuff that you wanted to put into your bank account. You had to watch your back, you could never be sure whats around the next corner. But parts of the community complaind alot and Lord British made a copy of the old world named it Trammel where everything was safe, no player could steal from another, no player could kill another, the old world was called Felucca and ppl could travel with Moonstones from the old to the new world, ofc besides some hardcore gamer no1 realy wants to play in Felucca anymore. For the first weeks it was great, but then it became boring and alot of ppl quit. Trammel was a heaven .. a boring, thrillless heaven where no1 realy needs anyone.
Insane hardcorness would make it unplayable today. Dying and dropping equipment? Even tallum set almost unobtainable? Class change quest taking day or two and having to run from town to town because you cant afford using gatekeepers?
That's not what i'm saying, and if you remember i was always trashed on these boards for saying that L2 was really too hardcore on many levels, and that it was taking away most of the fun...
So, me saying that L2 is now too "easy" is such an epic surprise that the world as we know it might actually end :p
But, just like Glenfx said, the fact that L2 was too "hard" on some levels was not a reason to go the complete opposite way, and transform an insane hardcore grindfest into a "get to level 40 in 2 hours" WoW clone...
I love a lot of things that i see in this new GoD expansion, but the fact that we level so fast without even leaving Talking Island is really a shame ... every Race was different and original (and every Class too, but that's another story relating to this Awakening stuff), with its own starting village, its own starting map, its own levelling grounds, and now ... well, like i said i really have mixed feelings about this, i need to play a bit more on this new territory to make my mind ;)
I think what it bothers me the most is that in Lineage players only level up and that's it, no content to explore and play with anymore.
That's exactly it !
And that was exactly the point of mid-rates private servers, exploring the awesome content the game had to offer but at the same time not suffering from the insane grind ... now that the official game is free and "easier", a lot of ppl are gonna leave those private servers (and that's a good thing) and be happy about how fast they can level here, but for the moment i'm not so happy about how the leveling curve makes you skip a lot of great content...

Game is not bad, GOD was not a bad idea, BUT ... yes BUT ... mages, summoners are all the same after awake and less fun then b4. Crafting was something I would like to do but now is obsolete. Spoil is bad too! old spoilers don't have now mass spoil and plunder has a too long reuse time... I think all classes have some complaints and ppl remember the old times and the old skills with sadness . May be we'll have later an update to correct some of these things ... I hope... we can always hope! I am very disappointed with my little spoiler :( but her sub summoner lvl 80 is now her dual main and is lvl 81 I hope to get fun with her . I hope lots of good things for this game I love since more than 6 years ago
Harkonits not about the grind, its about that you probably get to 99 without ever need the help of any other player. Thats not how l2 used to be in the past ..
Lol i bet you are a lvl 77 noob. If you had been awakened you would know that exp after 85 is not easy...
And what is **** about new forum account means that you are noob lol... im 87 with almost full epic and 3x subs lv80 and i have 2 forum posts lolz
this game is aimed at the 14 year old f2p players now, which although unfortunate, is apparently where the money is at.No,money is anywhere but there, ppl who don't want/can't spend 15 bucks to support the server they play on,just laugh in you face when they hear that.
What do ppl call microtransactions? 10 bucks? 5? 2...It's a nightmare.

Actually, even if it's true Trammel and more particularily Age of Shadow power escalation made that no one needs anyone, Trammel saved UO. Confirmed by the old devs who prefered the old style. It broke many things, but UO would be dead without it.
Because let's face it, UO's PvP system is very bad.
Go through the process of awakening your toon. Then cry on here about levels being too fast and everything is given out blah, blah, blah.
I promise you your fun-factor will increase 100 fold. Trust me.
Don't mean to sound elitist. But use all your resources... mentoring, quests, daily quests and so forth. I had the same frustration. But I'm truly having a blast now awakened. Embrace it for what it is.
For years and years people cried and whined about the grind and the endless whack a mole system for leveling---now they changed it for the better!

You completed me. I really miss those days too. I remember once, I dropped a great axe in DVC, near kariks... I went back to village, walked all the way there since there was no teleport back then and picked it up! Now, that feeling you get and then you light a cigarette right afterwards and you tell all the friends around in the net to stop QQing you cause you found it, is priceless. I remember when i crafted my theca for my abyss walker. She was so hot. I kept telling my friends, LOOK AT ME I HAVE THECA and dark screamer. heheh
I remember my clanmate having just finished his BW Robe set. We go to a cata, we find a room with bots on the ground. We start to xp and after a few minutes a high level dwarf comes and trains us heavily for minutes. We starts falling down. My clanmate lost his BW Tunic to the botmaster, he was so happy! Good memories! Thank you!
Yeah, dropping gear when white was totally stupid. If there's something I don't regret, that's it.
My clanmate lost his BW Tunic to the botmaster, he was so happy! Good memories! Thank you!
You're welcome :)
Well, of course, this may have been a bit hard on people like you who forgot that this was only a pixel-animated computer GAME...
But for me, the rush of adrenaline that i got when i was running to get my Dark Elven Bow back was just awesome, and something that i never found in another MMO ever again...
Just like the feeling of always having to watch your back when you left town, cos you never knew who would come and attack you to get some of your gear...
And if i really lost some "important" gear ?
Well, then i'd just take a walk outside, go meet some friends, enjoy life, and when i'd get back to the game i'd be a bit more careful :)
Well, of course, this may have been a bit hard on people like you who forgot that this was only a pixel-animated computer GAME...
The time it would take to get that little pixels make it a huge loss when you drop it to someone who cheats and specifically already skip all that necessary time. You can belittle others all you want, you are the one crying here about losing your toy (ie the how so good old gameplay).
Rub your nostalgia on your face if you want, but roleplaying in L2... lol. And dropping stuff being great/hardcore/whatever... lol again.
The L2 you loved was not been here for a long time.
-Around C2 they stopped the "drop gear while white" mechanic.
-C4 introduced the noobie buffs; til level 45, but it was a start.
-Around C6 they made the leveling to 40 faster, this is probably what you remember, but post 50 was still very grindy.
I skipped from beginning of Kamael until Freya High Five; I can tell you, I wish L2 had been like that since the veyr beginning; instead of the stupid grindfest it was post 40.
Sure, I liked the slow progression in the beginning, but I didn't enjoy the shift it made on the community attitude post 50; if levels had stayed constant throughout all the first 72 of them, it would had been nice.
Instead it brought the efficient omnicient players: those who wouldn't give you party if you didn't spend SS like crazy, those who always wanted perfect parties and needing to party for 8 hours just to get 10%, only to lose it in a stupid way.
I also don't miss having to grind months to buy gear, or even mats to craft or play the market with soulshots; I don't miss the 60% success recipies for B grade and A grade.
The "content" was there to make the ungodly grind bearable or at least, somewhat meaningful. I don't miss the 1/50 quest drop mobs only to get a measly 2% exp bonus and 50k adena for 6 hours of hunting.
And stop whining, the "content" is still there, and you can go do it, but it still has the old rewards for it and quite frankly, it's not worth your troubles.
Why finish the obnoxiously complicated Legacy of Insolence to get A grade parts, when you get FULL DROPS from the ToI monsters now? Less clutter in your inventory, and you make more money of the adena drops in there than from the optional rewards for the quest.
It's fun to do once, I can see WHY it needed to be so slow to get mats through the quest; but once you reach floor 9 you can get 5 to 8 full blueprint sets.
Why keep the slow progression from 1 to 99 when the REAL game starts now at 86? 1 to 76 is just the training wheels, letting you get the noblesse and subclasses ready in a month; why ask a new player to invest 2 to 3 years just to experience the real game?
They missed the beginning, they fixed a lot of things; we knew from the beginning (if you bothered to read the lore, since you claim to be a role player) that this is a prequel to Lineage 1; eventually we are going to turn into the new world of Aden; that's why the goddess destroyed most of the old villages. the world cannot stay static; it has to turn into L1 Aden sometime in the future for us, in the past for L1 players.

Stop freaking crying around like a little girl, ***** christ.
Just play or don't play but you're just ******* most people off with your endless whinning about "uuuuuuuuh how bad everything is now".
Dear god, don't like it? Then leave and stop pestering us.

Who's crying ?
Do you know how to read ?
Or maybe you're referring to the OP ?
I never said i was crying, i said i had "mixed feelings" about this, but of course here on the worst MMO community ever (yes, you, the L2 community), everytime someone says something it's considered crying or whining ...
Rub your nostalgia on your face if you want, but roleplaying in L2... lol. And dropping stuff being great/hardcore/whatever... lol again.

Oh dont worry a lot of people will leave once the F2P rush will be over, and the game will be dead again, just like it was a few months ago...
By the way thank you for reminding me one of the reasons why i left this game a while ago, and why a lot of people will again leave this game in a while : because of the worst community ever to be found in any MMO on the face of the Earth, the Lineage II Forum Posters :)
This is true...sadly the most unique feature of L2 US is its players attitude. Its somewhat bad in game, but much worse on the forum.
Heaven forbid if you came from anywhere but the old official servers and are used to something different.
It is somewhat tragically funny that the L2 community has been screaming for new players and more server population and then when they get it, they do their best in trying to run them off again.

I've been playing MMOs sice 98' and I can you without a doubt that although L2 doesn't have the greatest of communities it isn't the worst. I'm not going to argue with you about it all I'm going to say is I guess you havent played many MMOs tell end game. If you have you wouldn't be saying how bad the community is here.

Hmm ... i dont think this is a competition, but i've been playing almost every MMO that was released since Star Wars Galaxies (the real one, before CU and NGE), including Archlords, Fallen Earth, The Matrix Online, City Of Heroes/Villains, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Aion, Warhammer Online, Cabal, Requiem, Shayia, Tabula Rasa, WoW (yeah yeah i know :p), DC Universe, Star Wars Old Republic Beta, etc..., and let me tell you that i never ever found such an aweful community like the one we have here on Lineage II.
I'm currently playing a lot of Lord Of The Rings Online, and one of the things that makes me stick to this game is its great, mature and friendly community, the exact opposite of what we have here...

But at least those games in some manner keeps most of it amongst themselves at high level/end game play. Heck and this forums isn't even populated by a high amount of end level players.
Really...this community could do better than responding "QQ, **** WHINY N00B" to every other thread. They don't understand that many especially new comers are used to different and far more intuitive games, so they need to be talked through many even simple concepts. Not to mention returning players and private server players will find this new GoD very different than what they're used to and as such can have quite the learning curve.

Oooh you didn't go there... try some free to play play to win MMO's, and L2 is elitist but fair.
Yes, overall we are very aggressive, even the carebears here could rip a new one in other Pay to play MMOs, but we are all rose petals next to the ROHAN, Perfect World or Rappelz community.
L2 is intuitive, just very unforgiving.
Low enchant rates, used to be low to almost inexistant gear drops, cumbersome and eternal crafting system, the NPC menues are intuitive but badly organized.
for example, the Blacksmith crafting for duals is intuitive, but need an overhaul badly as it's just a big list of possible crafted items.
The most obnoxious part of navigating NPC menues is having to restart conversations for most of them, there is no back buttons nor pretty interfaces; that doesn't make them less intuitive, it makes them hard to use.
I would call L2 functional, but it certainly lacks presentation and the flair of newer RPGs.
Oh dont worry a lot of people will leave once the F2P rush will be over, and the game will be dead again, just like it was a few months ago...

Hmm ... i dont think this is a competition, but i've been playing almost every MMO that was released since Star Wars Galaxies (the real one, before CU and NGE), including Archlords, Fallen Earth, The Matrix Online, City Of Heroes/Villains, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Aion, Warhammer Online, Cabal, Requiem, Shayia, Tabula Rasa, WoW (yeah yeah i know :p), DC Universe, Star Wars Old Republic Beta, etc..., and let me tell you that i never ever found such an aweful community like the one we have here on Lineage II.
I'm currently playing a lot of Lord Of The Rings Online, and one of the things that makes me stick to this game is its great, mature and friendly community, the exact opposite of what we have here...
Well... it's just that the end gam eis based around clan politics and territory control; this board used to be great and mature, but it's never been friendly (specially not the general discussion forum).
Go stroll through the actual server forums and the player questions, or class discussion, and it's more civilized and "friendly".
And hey, look; I might give the impression I am a big carebear since I can't tolerate senseless PKing; but I come from the old Kain server. Ask around, it was one of the heaviest PvP and PK servers with tons of drama, and I am glad the overall game is not like that anymore.
1-75 has been phased out in terms of being a difficulty barrier. Forget when SS didn't have auto toggle, forget when people ran instead of port, forget when Cgrade used to be godlike. That was a long time ago and no longer applies.
Neither does B/A/S grade tiers. Just a fact of life.
Get your *** to Rgrade, come enjoy the PvP at swamps and daily bosses. War anyone who ****** you off.
The only compliant I have so far is PKs. The current system is FINE, except that you no longer earn exp while red. Why is that an issue? Because you kill someone, and then they typically get 50-90% of their exp back. A relative loss of 5-20 minutes of exp.
The red person? Spends the next hour cleaning karma for nothing. A loss of 30min-1+ hour of exp. You are, in a sense, PKing yourself. Now thats just silly.
You dont need an old "Forum" account to be an old player or love the game XD.
While I agree to a small extent that no you don't need an old forum account to say you loved the game, it does show that more then likely you were like 90% of the other people who loved the game but quit. The game was pretty much on its last legs (Our 7 servers merged into 1 just to have enough people to see that someone else was here), and Naia (3 merged Euro servers) never went above light any time I saw it. We were all wondering when Naia would merge into Chronos, or the lights would be turned off all together.
I for one am enjoying the new updates. Even if it makes me cringe seeing my homeland destroyed, areas I am getting lost in even though I have been here for 7 years now, without taking a break, seeing people hit lvl 40 in 3 hours, when I think it first took me 7-8 months. The nice thing is, the game is alive again. Even if it has become a shell of what it once was, it beats seeing "Sorry you can not log in, servers have been turned off for good". That and the fact for the first time ever, I have been able to talk my friends into trying it out, as telling people to get into a PVP grind game where you can delevel and be killed anywhere anytime, even if your doing a raid boss isn't a good selling feature to many.
lol, I remember a time when finishing second class change quest was an accomplishment.
Well it was two thirds of the way to end game; it WAS a milestone, then we got third class change and second change was not as important; nowadays it's kinda redundant.

It's not so much a shell of what it was but more a glimpse of what it will become once a couple more chronicles pan out.
Remember, since the beginning it was destined to turn into L1 and we were only promised twelve chronicles, we are already beyond that.
If you loved this game you would have an older forum account, which you don't. Of course the game changed over the years, no MMROPG stays the same look at WoW for example.
OP has a point. Now, being lvl 25 (in 5 hours, rly? :D) with top-D gear means nothing - everyone has it...
Problem is that L2 was declining in players because of (mainly) the grind it had and ppl just left it as it was (hence the 100x privates popped). Back in the days when I started, being lvl 25 with top-D gear would mean you'd either be a WS (I was), was not legit or an alt (rather unlikely then). Not to mention, it took me days to hit 25 in the 1st place ;)
I think GoD is a good & bad step for L2. Yes, it's becoming too generic now (fast leveling, easy gear acquisition on lower levels - hey sounds like World of Warcraft). But GoD also gave F2P and new players. Servers are full of life again and we (old players) finally have new area's to explore.
You think leveling in L2 was hardcore? It was just pure time sinking but you can say quests were hardcore indeed. Never saw worse quests in all mmorpg's I've played. Oh and I did 2nd class chance on almost 14 characters, back in the day where you had to run all around the map, pretty insane. On top of that, every bot was higher lvl and better equipped... that till I got tired too and left the game. I mean, the game was pretty dead 3 years ago, I cant image how worse was after that. Now I'm happy that the game is alive again.

Having to kill non-undead mobs as a cleric was sure a funny thing, but the old subclass quest was the epic dimension of insane quests.

well, nothing is changed. i rolled a new char to get the rewards on main and you still have to nuke with windstrike as a cleric :) just less grinding
well, nothing is changed. i rolled a new char to get the rewards on main and you still have to nuke with windstrike as a cleric :) just less grinding
But healers in general got a boost as well as melee chars in general; it's no longer "roll mystic or archer" like it was pre C4.
The big problem with caster healers back then as well with knights and a few warrior classes was: "I can't grind efficiently because I don't have the tools to do it; so I'm always undergeared for my level".
Then it was "And I am a non factor in PvP and olympiad".
And that's fixed for the most part, so yes, you are still not as powerful as a nuker; but you won't have to worry about gear until 86; when you will get condensed into one of eight classes; and it so happens that without a ston of destiny, all awakened parties won't be able to afford a boxed healer.
From the looks of it; three spots are mandatory in parties now: Knight, Healer, buffer; whereas up to this chronicle you could afford to have an out of party buffer/healer.
More as I break the level 40 barrier with my healer.
I dont know if healers had a hard time because of gear, you could have used bw robe and a homu till high lvl. I lvled my subclass bishop on undead mobs when there was no inquisitor skill in this game. Now you get skills like clarity or invocation and a bunch of other skills and nukes but you still dont need to have a great weapon in groups and for some places, you dont need that good armor either, same as before. There are plenty of solo spots now, even for 86+. Being a melee was much harder than being a healer back then, now I think its the other way around.
But now you do need better armor (or robes, depending on the class) to PvP in olympiad, and you can hunt completely solo with actual in-game skills; both the knight and the healer I'm playing (one was my main, the other an experiment to see if they are still frustrating) are very fun solo and in parties.
Like I mean: neither has to focus on undead anymore so you are not as restricted in hunting grounds as before.
Well, I guess the Lineage 2 is great now! It is keep you much more in game as anytime before.
A lots of new and interesting features was added to game and as I know about same much new features will be added in the Tauti (next big expansion).
I did and do enjoy every expansion of this game I play on official since C5 and I love this game.
And yes it is more playable now for the new players as anytime before. Also thanks for the many new and useful quests, the game is more interesting too!
But that's about it, a shell without a soul.
it you played for 5 hours and wasn't at least 45-50, then you suck. your first 2-3 hours in game, and they basically give you lvl 40.
I'm not unhappy. I was playing before the game went free. I didn't like the low level content. I certainly didn't liked quests like "The wishing potion". Basically the low level content is a friggin ****. Oh it is and you know it or you are too big of a carebear to understand it. Life is not flowers and gardens dude. I've played on mid-rate private servers too. People don't join them because they can enjoy the low level content. They don't join them to explore the game world or sit nearby a waterfall and talking romantic things.
People go there to dominate. You will be amazed how in 40x every player is max level after day one. After the first week everyone is with imba gear and is PKing around =) Now that is how you enjoy game content !
Everything changes, so is this game. For all of us that have played since early on, we have our memories.
I'll never forget how many times I was chased by a feathered soul(s) at hardins before they made them non-agro. Chasing and being chased by reds outside gludin. Getting killed by the Tiger Boss mob at forest of mirrors and coming back a second time to finish him off, REVENGE!!! Carrying 300 healing pots with me in the old dragon valley.
The new ppl will never know those memories or about all the changes that came before but they will forge their own memories with the game as it is today. they will lvl up and catch up to us "Awakened" soon enough.
Major clans will be recruiting like mad just to try to keep even numbers with their adversaries. Old clans might be resurrected from the dead, and new clans might rise up to challenge the old guard for supremacy.
So stop the belly-aching and tighten up your jock straps people!! It's going to be a wild ride...;)

Lol it took you 5 hours to get to 25. Took me just under 3 hours to get to 50, without a mentor.
But just for your information, any levels under lvl 85 are being considered "casual" so all of the gear is available and reasonably easy to aquire due to that fact. They don't want people to feel the grind to 99 the way we used to feel the grind back when 75 was top level.
Come back at 85 or 90 and confirm that you easily aquired R grade or R90.
(R grade actually isn't that hard due to the mentor/mentee system but try R90 and above)
All your items you had to collect are now used the aden reconstruction system which like most gambles with NCsoft, is usually a dissappointment for a reward but can be really rewarding if you have luck on your side.

I got my full R grade armor set in 2 days of exp in the new zones from full drops.
Also anyone who gets to 86 as a mentee gets a free set. Will be interesting to see what it takes to get the 90 set. I for one am gonna focus on elementaling my R set and waiting till 95 to upgrade
The thing I really dislike about L2 right now is how they have this huge playable map, but you just teleport everywhere. All the 'gatekeepers' are crowded and you're just screwing aboutin town. As if the game is not Lineage 2 but some ****** wannabe L2. You teleport everywhere, you can get any item you want and you're just doing stupid quests on ONE specific place for your level.
I mean, L2 wasn't build with quests in mind. Of course the grind was too long, but now you skip through levels and classes like it's absolutely nothing. It's like all the things you'd normally do up to level 50 are all dismissed. A class change isn't even special anymore.
I get what you people mean, and L2 focuses purely on endgame PVP and sieges now. But I just feel like they've deleted 70% of the game, and added 20% more content to that.
It feels empty.
I'm not saying that as the me who played L2 ever since the Korean Open Beta, but I'm saying it as the me who returned from a long slumber as a new player of a 'new' game. The game just doesn't have a lot to offer. They tried to tell you about their 'lore', which I think kinda fails. Quests are just so lame with at least twenty people ****** mobs per square meter. I don't know, it... just doesn't feel done right.
Lineage 2 is an rpg, a game. This is just a race-game to the finish, and then it's arcade.
I still enjoy it so I'm going to keep playing. But I think they've done a poor job.
