New player advice

So one of my staff of another part of the network wants to try out Lineage 2, but I am rather at a loss for advice, especially considering his recent experiences are Ultima Online and Star Trek online...vastly different games.

He likes the summoner and Kamael "on paper", though are they realistic classes/races to play/aim for as a new player?

I was thinking Kamael with a crossbow, had some fun with those in the old days, but have no idea how they are in GoD.

(serious) advice would be welcome.

I am completely biased. Have been playing Pally since day one and have loved how the class has evolved over the last 7-8 yrs. I think you really needed to be into S&M back in the day to even consider a knight class (as they were totally gimped - dagger could one shot you, mage could one shot you, could hold your own against an archer, but could never catch them... get the picture), and they could not effectively xp without a proper party (as damage output completely sucked). Now, I really think they've rounded out the class really well and one can effectively solo or contribute meaningfully to a party (and of course raid).

PVP, was never huge on that side of the game (as early on we'd just suck... see above). However, with the skills you get post 3rd class change, that began to change somewhat and I would enjoy the PVP aspect that much more. I wasn't going out and owning anyone mind, but I was holding my own and winning the odd match (which makes it a bit of fun).

Like I said, biased, but I do think its a class worth trying.

Inch.
Ok, thanks :)

Was more thinking of what could be fun to play at the lower levels before hitting hardcore. You know to introduce them to the game without scaring them away with a sucky or gimped class.

True... the early stages of being a pally can be tough. They really only come into their own post 76. But it is worth the wait to be honest.

I've tried the Kamael Berserker, and they are pretty fun early on, but I've not carried on past B grade yet (concentrating on getting pally on to lvl 85 :) ).
