I'm curious as to if players from the older servers are experiencing the same thing as I am on the two newer ones. Namely the fact that nearly everyone seems to be a private server player with little to no knowledge of basic game mechanics. It's amazing how many players are 76+ and yet still don't even know the difference between a Bladedancer and a Swordsinger.
Through the past couple weeks I have been in one fail group after another. Nearly any group with a Warlock/SWS/BD ends up with three leechers (as those three never do anything but dance/sing/sit afk). Most Overlords and Warcryers try to sit afk as well.
Most chat isn't in English and players seem to enjoy KS'ing. I'll purposely run past people who are fighting a mob so I can take one that's sitting alone, and the same person I run past will chase after me just to KS me.
The fact that we can't even police the servers on our own is painful; your only choices are to go permared or sit there and allow players to run over you. The game in itself has turned into a carebear gank-fest.
Furthermore, the people the game attracts (based on the MANY guilds I've seen recruiting and many parties -- seems to be a majority of private server players) are not the ones that bring revenue to the game anyways. Most played on privates because they didn't want to spend money for a game. Adding them to a F2P isn't going to magically make money appear.
So my question is whether or not the game is better on the two older servers, because after getting four characters to 52-59 on the newer ones I can't handle it anymore. The game is bringing out the worst people possible and it completely destroys any fun I would otherwise have.

F2P means more kids, so the average age goes really down. Also the majority of them will be from less developed countries (sorry for the prejudice but I believe I'm right about this one) and will know little or no English, so communicating with them can be funny or not possible at all.
As to partying with strangers, that is always going to be a fail/fail situation. Efficient players have their own thing going either with a clan or with boxes. Join a clan or befriend some people around your lvl for a better experience, why not lvl your own buffers? I personally like boxing and enjoy the independence from people who lvl support characters just to sit around and do nothing at all. No offence to you guys but that's the case usually ;)
To answer your question, things are much better in the old servers. Retired players are returning back due to the f2p change so the influx of players will be from retired players not from newcomers.

Been looking for a clan. There are four English clans I know of on the server I played/was playing on, and all of them are from Europe but have SOME English players (most chat in all of them seemed to be some foreign language with a small bit of English here and there).
I have my own buffers as well but if I wanted a single-player RPG I'd play something offline. Lineage II used to be a great game with people who actually knew how to think and figure things out. Now it seems like the degradation has gotten so bad that it's no better off than when it was 99% farmers.

If you are still looking for a clan (on Chronos), pm Elvoana of TheBlackDawn clan.
USA/Euro mix so a spread of playing times.
As for my response to the OP; I have found the majority of new players to be ignorant to the nth degree. If a player comes to me and says (types) something in a language I cannot understand, I usually say "Sorry, I only speak English" or just "English?"
Why therefore, can the new players not do the same in their native language?
If I say "Hello, are you on a quest" and the response is "sdfuysdahf jh k jshdf khsdf a"
"<insert other language response here>", I usually say "OK" and move on.
as for the KS situation, I was sat on a single spawning mob TRYING to do a quest in frozen lab,( as an EE in Inq mode), a noob came along and tried to KS my mob. (I do 2-hit kills),
when he didn't get more than 1 hit in, (and no Quest item),
he repeatedly said "8 year old?"
my response of "grow up and Jog on" incensed him enough to want to flag on me.
so I killed him
"I will get my main and kill you"
"ok, I'll be here waiting"
he then laid in the dirt trying to trashtalk, until I /blocked him

I must say I have not experienced this on Naia, I have seen a few random ppl talking but around lvl 80ish which is where I am at, parties have been awesome, ppl seem to start to use the party matching system a lot more and I can find a party fairly quickly even outside the clan.
F2P was definetly a good move, its awesome to be able to find lots of ppl at lower level when I play my dwarf alt. And everything is alive now, sure there are idiots around and children but its all part of it, there will never in any MMO be this utopia some ppl think its great with just mature and serious ppl it would be boring.
As for ppl not knowing how to play, who cares, its all part of the experience they will learn eventually doesnt really affect me.
It's like a nightmare, some days I wake up,I log in and I still can't believe it.After all these years running through Aden ...
I think "Well,looks like a massive event account reactivation or something",but it's not,it's permanent.
So,we've been lvling our toons for months to be ready for GoD,after almost one year, and when that day came, they announced F2P.
It was like a slap in the face.I was knocked down. But my favourite part is not that one,it's how they managed to exclude any existing player from
the path of awakening or whatever it is called.

I'm actually on the Shilen server, :(.
As for the KS'ing situation, it is worse when you're melee -- doing, for example, the class change quest took me forever because everytime a nuker would come by they'd always get the last hits. I had to just sit there waiting until people left.

It's not that they don't know how to play... I guess I didn't explain enough. It's that they don't CARE enough to learn. They drag one group down after another. What sparked this post was that I had a group invite me (as SWS) and have me spend 60k+ on ports to get up to them in ToI. I get up there and do my songs and I get kicked. Why? Because I don't have Dance of Fury (REALLY?).
Furthermore, I'm tired of seeing all the spam about bugs that aren't even bugs. People claim everything under the sun is a bug because they've been on private servers and retail doesn't work the same.
Furthermore, the people the game attracts (based on the MANY guilds I've seen recruiting and many parties -- seems to be a majority of private server players) are not the ones that bring revenue to the game anyways. actualy privates had this system NC has now for years its called donation there (seriously call it donation? you pay them the money to get the coins and then you use them in game to buy the stuff from the gm shop same as L2 store here) and people were buying there the coins a lot so if you think that those players that moved from there wont spend the cash here you are wrong
and people were buying there the coins a lot so if you think that those players that moved from there wont spend the cash here you are wrong
Yeah and those ppl were actually waiting for Official to turn into a huge Private server with a shop so they can spend their money here ,that was the only thing keeping them from joining before?I don't think so.

There is no doubt that NC will make more money from this and I think its a good system when it doesnt imbalance the game to the point you need to pay to continue, I think L2 really does that well considering it was always designed with P2P in mind. I like to be able to cut some corners once in a while cause I can, also some ppl used to spend ridiculous amounts of money in adena and other goods, it means now they can pay NCSoft that money.

yes there were people that played there cuz they couldnt afford to play on retail but mostly it was people playing there cuz of easy lvl up and getting gear on xxx rates then on retail with normal rates (x1) not to mention spendin cash on items for faster xp and other cosmetics or overpowered items that would depend on a server on what they were selling
More kids/******s/lamers on official : True.
More skilled/mature/good people: True.
All of the players are the same: False.
Please don't put all of us inside of the same bag,i am from private server too and it ****** me off when i see someone saying "All these new players are @()*@%@ and (@*$@" because i'm part of these players and i came here to enjoy a higher quality gameplay....not to see the same flame/lameness of another private server.
Cheers,Shalk.
It's the price you have to pay so L2 can keep online.
Most people are dumb, yes, but that doesnt mean you have to interact with them. Pk system sux, yes, but there's nothing we can do about it.
I personally played many years on low rate private servers and not because it was free, but because it was not a bot-fest, GM's did make theier own system to prevent botting and actually banned people, ofc there were bots, but not the whole community. I really tried, but it was disappoiting to how many players did played legit and were actually playing the game.
I come after years now to experience a balanced game with a lot of players, and I have to assume that I'm pretty much happy, because I ended doing things that I haven't experienced on lineage 2 since C3, such as doing raid party's with random people from lvl 40~60. Being able to go to a spot and easily match a party. Seeing real people playing, eventhough there's a lot of bots right now.
Anyway, my point is that it isnt all bad and you can't complain about all private server players, because the worst part is childish ppl that think it's cool to ks/laugh and has not to do with private servers.

I think ppl really need to think things through again, PVP in this game is not a lower levels anymore, at one point in time I remember going to siege with ppl from lvl 40 to 60 with everyone contributing, this is no longer the case the game has changed you are supposed to be in a certain level bracket to be able to compete and you need to be in a clan, you cannot accomplish the highest play in this game without a clan.
So this brings us nicely to the main point, random ppl are non factors at the end of the day, they will join a clan to accomplish something, when they do they will be in wars if they piss off other ppl that is how it works. Also much like when the cap was 85 ppl will pk others at the most highest level because they can, they have nothing else to do and clearing karma when you dont have more XP to earn is easy.
Hi ;)
I'm one of these "private server" people that u all seem to hate so much. TBH, the main difference I noticed when I started playing on L2 off was the mentality of players. Before other ppl from private servers managed to lv up, it was not uncommon to make a pt for daily quests, PVP for spots (instead of just flaming and "pk me if u dare"), avoid ksing, and generally play in a way that doesn't harm other people's fun.
Sadly most of the people who came from private servers are just lame. They KS, they flame, they scam, they speak only "fwbxezsyjgjbvgw jhecb" etc. But like someone said before: dont put us all in the same bag. There are some players (like me) who enjoy playing with people on their "Real life" level. Having 5-6k people online all the time gives us the the freedom to choose between playing with either good ppl or worthless "players", I suggest we use it instead of whining.
One more thing: it seems interesting, but as far as I've noticed, people who are actually able to speak english (not lolglish, spanglish, belglish, fsiuvmvblish etc) are far more trustworthy than those who arent. So what I do is "don't pt up with snfuixvbsvhbsf people". It makes my gameplay far more enjoyable and I don't have to worry if I /block 50 people, cuz there are another 500 that I know I'll enjoy playing with.
There are a lot of scum, immature and ignorant noobs coming from private servers.
There are also a lot of decent, skilled people coming from private servers, with the will to adapt and learn more about this game.
Point being, what already has been said; don't generalize and don't make the false assumption "everyone coming in F2P from private servers are noobs, period."
Block whoever is annoying and lame and group with the good ones.

I'm still mad about that. Every European aged 13-30 is supposed to know some intermediate English. -_-
But then again, those people are coming from monolingual private servers, so ignorance is nothing that surprises me :/

I would say that majority of the priv server kids are of the scum variety that you described.
Aggressive, greedy, ignorant children who don't give a **** about what they do and how it impacts anyone else.
I had this hilarious conversation with a greek dude who basically spent about 20 minutes trying to get me to tell him how to donate for extra items/exp wink wink. It was surreal.
have to /allblock when I go to Aden cause the mentor me pm spam is insane
thankfully the adena please sillyness has subsided since GoD launched
But there are a few decent players that are visibly enjoying playing the actual game instead of whatever knockoff the private server they used to play in served up as lineage 2.
But aside from all that, seeing a few thousand people in Gludio brought back happy memories of this game.
You guys need to get over yourselves: There are a lot of people playing that haven't played private servers and just installed the game recently. If I asked these forums, L2 would be the world's most popular game and you've either been a subscriber or a pserver player. Unfortunately this game isn't that popular. Sure maybe there is 25,000 people on here but that's not a lot.
Before you call out everyone who sucks because they are used to private servers, maybe they've never played L2 before starting on official?! Whenever myself or someone else makes a suggestion about the game people say "Oh more private server suggestions." There's more games out there than just L2 and its private servers. If someone is a newb to the game maybe they haven't actually ever played before. A lot of people picked up this game for the first time. I didn't pick it up until it went free to play because people said it was like Aion but more grindy with a more severe botting problem.
Grunty, most L2 players are just afraid of change or of being passed by newcomers, most of them don't even accept new update, it's always: "OMG l2 is gonna die, new update sux" everytime, so they never take new sugestions either :)

Several milion subscribers world wide first years after launch. + Hundreds of thousands of players on p.s.
Call it as you want, Lineage2 was, and if you take number from the past into consideration, it is second most popular MMO.
Koreans play it mostly, yk.
