I'm here since it became ftp, how many of you were here when it was p2p?

Btw, the free trial a while back did not give me a clue about how this game played. I wish their free trial had not been like an instance unto itself but had been more like WoW's and other free trials where you were just playing the beginner's zone. I had a world to myself in the free trial but it was soo lonely. It gave me no clue what the game was like.

So what has changed since it became f2p? Where is the $$$ catch? I mean, what am I going to be forced to buy from their shop as I get higher level? All f2p games usually end up costing more that p2p.

Is the game better since it's gone free to play? Do the once pay to plays resent the free to plays?
P2P people tend to be upset with the F2P people, as they have been paying and supporting this game for many years and now they might be getting more people, but its a lot of foreigners and private shard players, and many of them don't really know the game and noobs have always been looked down on.

No, that's really not the problem with F2P players. Being noob can be funny, a little mockery and that's it. The real problem is the part of F2P players who have real social issues and rot the mood of the game. L2 isn't a carebear game, but using insults as punctuation in PM with someone who's trying to help isn't part of the game.
Put the problems of behavior in the context of the horrid PK system and the worse scum is free to roam and drag the level down.

there are two sides to every coin; there really is no real NEED to purchase anything from the ncstore, as it doesnt open any content that couldnt otherwise be farmed/crafted/bought. it does provide however weightless soulshots, and buffs for those with no desire to play/join a group with a buffer.

the path to awakening gives free gear away, which is great.

none of it NEEDED, but its all beneficial.

i'm sure however, that NC will have special sales with specialty novelty items every once in a while that will be the bees knees. these destiny weapons (for those people smart enough to do +3 and not break it) have really given me a much needed boost. im still just an S grader, in A gear so i have at least something to help me solo.

I think what it really boils down to is community. Right, L2 was slowly fading away. Only 2 servers left, etc, etc, etc. But, that core group of people have been playing the game together for quite some time (many since open Beta, and prelude/C1 for me). We had developed a sense of community. What was acceptable, what was not. How you conducted yourself within game and how you conducted your own business/affairs.

Now with F2P, everything has been turned on its ear and "the way things are done around here" doesn't apply anymore. That kind of abrupt and immediate change is difficult for any population to absorb/handle. I personally think it has brought a breath of fresh air back into an otherwise stale environment. That said, its brought out a lot of **** hats too. If we could just find someway to pk them into oblivion, I think we'll do just fine as a "new" and revitalised community.

Inch.

I have to agree with you here. They basically took my favorite "Gentlemen's Club" and turned it into a Chuck E Cheese. If it weren't for the new PK/PvP system, I would have happy to have slapped an auggied, elemented weapon on a nuker and do some street justice. But alas, the new players will win overall because the wall that separated us from the "Privys" has been taken down and they are coming enmass.
let me give you an example of what I hate about f2p, happened about an hour ago in Naia.

My dorf is a main Othel Rogue, I was leveling one of her subs in Varka, my enchanter was just sitting by a rock. Group of F2Pers come in their shiny (Free) A grade weapons and their free DC/NM and start flagging, leave, spot ours, you bot blah blah. So I switch to main, rebuff and just kill them in about 12 seconds. For the next 40 minutes I have got a wall of nonstop pms

You bot (no clue why they say that - My buffer was visibly not even in follow he was sitting at a rest area)

You cheat (they haven't got the memo that you can switch subs on the fly)

You are donator/GM Friend

You this You that You the other. All in crappy east-European english. Along with an endless stream of insults cause they flagged on me, I told them to stop and just go exp, they didn't so I killed them. Stuff like that never happened before. People got b*hurt if they died but they didn't behave THAT childishly. And that's what I hate, the crappy mentality paired with the childishness of the people that clearly can only play cause it costs nothing.
yeah one of my mentees had the same problem, full party griefing him so i went and killed them all, then had to block them all.

I don't understand what you complaining about (if you do), sound like lots of FUN! :D
The way I see it is that a game is always the same game and it breaks down to the community.

In most cases P2P players hate the F2P players or want benefits for paying for the game in the past. The problem here is that they had early access and didn't have to pay the whole time. Secondly benefits just end up bringing unbalance to a game. This game looks pretty solid at the moment as far as the community and balancing. I can't say the same as for Aion going F2P since they are already going to kill the game with their "Gold Package".

Right now as a F2P I will give this game a solid 7/10. Don't troll just yet I have more..

Okay so I haven't played the game myself yet (I can in a few days b/c of my new pc) although I know about the click to move which makes me lower some points. Secondly I lower some points due to the community and I only say this for now since everyone at first will be all crazy but it will settle down. Last but not least the game's engine/graphics aren't as great as they could be but that's not a huge deal because the game looks nice and looks as though it has good gameplay.

When I actually play this and the whole F2P settles in for everyone I'm sure I'll be rating this an 8.5/10

-1.5 for click to move (I know about the WASD but its not at its max potential), old style of combat which doesn't involve dodging attacks and a few more things.
Some Greek guy tried to insult me about the fact that I paid money to play the game when it was P2P, like he was a better person than me because he wouldn't allow himself to pay a subscription fee for a game. Was good for a laugh. I also get insulted for having an 85+ character and how I "play this game for years". The worst part is it's always foreigners who can barely muster up a comprehensible sentence.
P2p players and f2p players is like final fantasy meets call of duty. The majority of each group really enjoy different aspects of the game, with the exeception of players like me who equally enjoy all parts of the game ( pve pvp quest siege ect). I played retail for many years then played privates servers during 2011 before finally deciding to return. Immediately after joining the priv servers I realized how great the community is (was?) here on retail. For many months this troubled me but I continued to play. Eventually i became comfortable in my new l2 environment and sorta laugh now that I see all the old retail players have the same reaction I had a year ago. Buuuut the one good side to this f2p crowd is free pvp pts! Since most had never played the game the way it's suppose be it gives us old school people the upper hand.

Ps : to All players prior to GoD , /allblock /pvp and enjoy farming some nabs I know i do !
I started on the third day of open beta (Prelude) I just never used the forums as I wasnt quite 18 yet and really didnt care. Now im a more matured gamer I tend to care how the game develops =)
theres not that many of you playing that have been here from the start to make a real impact on anything
the problem isnt really that you cant pk some noobs, its that the game became a bit too easy and those that are actually low iq scum can still succeed in the game,it really doesn't matter cause there is nothing anyone can do to stop bad behavior
having the old pk system would just mean a lot of idiots pk'ing,it will never solve a problem
i played a free game for years that had no actual rules, but that game actually had one good advantage: it would give you 1-2 free pk's before you had really big penalty's,it would take roughly 30 min or less to get back to where you were ,depending on how high lvl the moobs you were fighting would be,but after that, getting rid of your red name would take hours, cause the server would always be crowded, and if you went overboard it would take as much as 99 hours of not being able to use any npc or get anywhere fast or even not being able to leave a map.

but still this pk system was the best out of any pk system i ever seen and i played or at least tried every mmo's that you can have access to in EU or US, even some kr and jp only games, if it would also have flaging like l2 has it would have been perfect

i dont like it how it is now,but i didn't like the old one either, sorry for my punctuation,i dont use it much on the internet ^_^
btw im sure people will get used to this pvp system, even the way it is now

xpin faster isnt a need for every1

nothing has changed when it became f2p
and game hasnt changed when it became f2p apart from loads and loads of people pmin higher lvls constantly askin for help its irritating

like 2 weeks ago i told some1 ill help u out once now he pm's me every freakin day askin me to help him again **** do not want to spend my time on some1 else :O

New players can be annoying when they try to grief.....but at least its quite amusing when they fail at it. Went to Bartz (Naia is hell atm >< ) and started fresh <3 . Then I went to do a 36 kama. Found a party , and up we go! 30 mins looking for tank+healer+1 dd. I repeatedly said to em we can even 2-man the darn thing. So we went , me , 2 archers and a tank. One of the archers said he wanted Might (he removed his coz he was buffed at start) so I buffed him....just when he flagged. He killed me , making me lose exp worth of 1 mob -.- .I rebuffed at town and went back. Then the sucker kicked me out of party right before the boss died......making me lose the chance of looting 3 d-grade shields.............having played the game for 2 years+ , I didn't know if I should laugh at this..stood there dumbfound.

This is pretty petty , but it kinda makes u go on a PK spree. And yes , I remember their names. What goes around comes around.
Before all hell broke loose with free play Chronos was a pretty tight community,we didn't bother someone's box buffer standing someplace. Most likely we KNEW who's box it was rofl. Clan leaders knew another and pvp clans didn't bother the pve clans much if ever. I'm a healer so I'm not real interested in the pvp points of the game on that toon. I've been here since open beta and I do look at the incoming free players as less then worthy. The sense of community and understanding has been replaced with players who come from private servers and trash talk. They'll ks your mobs, stay in your areas and basically make xping difficult for you because they don't have the sense to go to an area that's not taken and I even moved to another area and what do they do? Follow../facepalm. There is a major difference between p2p and f2p and some of them aren't all like that,my clan has taken in a ton of noobs and they speak perfect english, but I do get so so tired of the same questions and not understanding to just go read the guides on clan forums to answer their questions.
this coming from a Long time player. i have played l2 for many years, i have seen the private servers but always came back to retail because they were all ****..

there are some good players who come from private servers but for every 10 you get about 100 **** players that just suck the life from the server and the players and abuse system.

the new pk system is kinda brutal for the most part it is a bit more restrictive and prevents some aspects of the game like the ability to open kill kids. i miss the days when you could just easly run up to a person and type "say orange" if they couldn't get a sentence out they got pk'd not only did it kill bots but it also killed those who were not welcomed on the server >.>

the fact that the game is free to play is a fact that i love, i don't worry about time i am paying for anymore, either i play or i don't.

my dislike is the poor attention ncsoft is giving to the servers, the cap on players is sad, it shouldn't take 2 hours for me to be able to login. hate to say this but any player over 60 should take priority over the new players.

i don't mind all the new players i love having new blood in this game and i look forward to the 100 player sieges and mass pvp.
-1.5 for click to move? Go back to wherever you came from.

If you actually use your eyes to read I said "old style of combat which doesn't involve dodging attacks and a few more things" as well. I give it -1.5 for the older style of combat which I will give any older mmo as it kills the survival feel to it. I'm really big on movement, the game doesn't allow you to use WASD well or jump, no dodging (which is a major attention grabber in these days), the overall graphics could use an update, and I shouldn't need to say anything else.

an 8.5/10 is well over enough for a 7 year old game that hasn't had an engine upgrade.
Started in Prelude and then left about 1 year ago because i just couldn't stomach paying NC for 5 accounts and recieving the worst customer service that there possibly could be.

Now that its f2p i couldn't care less what NC does....but they really haven't changed so i don't see much success in the long run.

The private server that i wound up on is miles ahead of this one and i still play it. The only reason i'm here is because of the people which i did miss.

I don't get this. How does this 'prove' anything? Why is this person not welcome on the server?

I have been playing the game since the Korean beta, off and on, and have taken about three of four hiatuses (I admit I could never handle the grind). Without fail, whenever I returned to the game I felt good about it. The game still felt fresh, and the people overall seemed to be solid. But after returning to the game now that it's gone F2P, I have found that things are nothing like they used to be.

The biggest problem is with people like you mention there. In the past week, I've been accused of botting twice, even though all I have is a buffer following me. "Take your buffer off walker" is something one person said to me, to which my retort was, "Do you see my buffer doing anything? It's following me." Their response, "ya right".

I should mention that this person is not natively English, and that's where I feel the game has changed dramatically. While there were always non-English people playing the game, it feels like to me now that 66% of the population can't speak English at all. I am often hunting in a ground when some idiot will come up and start bashing on my chars, and then when I say something, they start talking in Spanish. Last night, a group of two came up and started bashing on my chars, to which I told them to go elsewhere. They didn't respond so I started to shout at them... still no response. Then they started chatting to each other in Spanish and then left.

This is the kind of thing that drives me nuts. NC should have made an official English server and then an official Spanish or other language server because this is kind of ridiculous. The only people that speak English shouldn't be those in your clan.

I should note that I have nothing against non-English speakers at all. It just takes a lot away from the game when most people I encounter are A) idiots and B) non-English. I don't remember the game ever being like this before. Sure, there were always idiots, but at least I could understand them.

I've been to Asia numerous times and have quite literally encountered more people there that can speak decent English than I do in this English game.
I had an active account for a few months about a year ago when it was p2p. I kinda feel stuck in the middle though because I don't consider myself worthy (so to speak) to be called a vet as I didn't play a ton. However, I don't like being lumped into the flood of f2p people either.

In any case, I resent most of the f2p folks out there. I started a new toon (didn't have a choice at one point with Chronos being bombared constantly) and unbearable is putting it lightly. I've never seen such a rude group of people in my life. It's not just 'old school L2 protocol' their breaking, they're also completing ignoring the basic 'unwritten rules' of MMOs which can pretty much be summed up as 'don't be stupid.'

At the same time though, I find some vets can be just as bad. I was minding my business and I get pk'd. Fine. I don't care about the pk(I play Eve for goodness sake. Pking comes with the territory.). It's what he says afterwards. He tells me to go back to my private server.

What?

How would he even know if I even played on one? For the record, I cannot stand private servers. Tried one for WoW years and years ago and couldn't take it. If you're going to pk me, I'd rather you get your facts straight or just not say anything at all.

Anywho, I'm going to stick with this game for the foreseeable future. It's still a ton of fun even with all the recent downsides.

because if they can't say orange they can't understand basic english, thus they either a bot, or don't speak a common language used on the server. if you can't read it then well your the type of player that most players don't want on the server someone not paying attention.
Glad I'm not the only person who feels this way about these arrogant foreigners. Been playing since closed beta and I have to say this game has turned into a cluster**** of annoying pricks. It's funny whenever someone acts like a ****** to me in-game they NEVER know English, and if they do all they can make out is incomprehensible gibberish trying to insult you. Chronos will never be as enjoyable as it once was. Like I mentioned earlier about the Greek guy it's funny because there was another Greek person in the area siding with me and I knew he wasn't a new F2P guy because he had boxes, then he told me the guy said something about my mother in Greek so I pk'd him.

What if, like me, they just don't want to answer some self-righteous server cop a-hole?
I don't understand you guys. First you complain about lack of pvp, or someone being too powerful to have a decent war against them.

Now you get to kill bunch of trigger happy people who flag on everything that walks and talk in funny languages. What can be more fun? :D:D:D

This and most of them wouldn't know a bot if it Obiwan himself waved his hand at them and said, "theses are the droids you're looking for" ;)

They rarely ever flag anyway they just continue to deliberately ks you.
Dunno, watching my wife's screen yesterday:

She is a spellsinger with box ee, walking through DV. She kills some mobs on her way throu. There is a party with 2 WCs and a tank I think.

They instantly flag on her cause she hit "their" mob while passing through. Bang, bang they on the floor spamming her with some random **** in private chat. Made my evening. :D

I invited a friend over to retail since the game is free to play and there was some noob tyrant that was pking everyone in ruins of agony. So he called me for help I 2-shotted him and he called me noob T_T

Ontopic though ... I've met some really nice people that come from privates. I don't usually make random parties but when i do ... i take an arrow to the knee.... oops too much 9gag xD ... so as i was saying ... there are plenty of cool people and there are those who ... well just duck up everything for everyone.

Although my personal opinion is that the servers are way too overcrowded for what the game can handle. You don't know what do i mean ? :D Try finishing the daily quest in WoA when there are most people online XD Will take you few HOURS to get only 30 quest items from relatively easy mobs
You really shouldnt be allowed to post with that ignorant, udeducated, biased opinion.

Why are you all so emotional over a personal opinion about the game? Face the facts, the game is OLD. I shouldn't have to give a game a 10/10 because everyone else wants me to should I? Not only that I find a 10/10 to be perfect in every way.

The only ignorance is the way you guys get all defensive over opinions. Let's all be adults here and go "I don't agree with you because _____". Bashing other users on a forum for any personal opinion is a complete act of a troll and forums are used for discussion, opinions, etc.

Ya I agree they really are very good for the game being older and actually very impressive toward the current day but I really want to see some use of new games and their directx 11 capabilities, this game would be beautiful with it. Thanks for the heads up!

Not really understanding the top part. Saying old players had early access to the game isn't really accurate. They had early access to the old Lineage II, where you spent a lot of time leveling up. The new one takes what would've potentially been months or years of playing and gives it to you in a week or two. So at worst, a dedicated new player is a week or two behind. And old players actually did have to pay the whole time, and we got to buy a boxed copy of the game (or two) as well. So yes, it might've been nice for NCSoft to throw us a bone, even a small one.

And as for the part about WASD being preferrable, I agree, but having to run around to dodge attacks is ****. I've never once played an MMO where I thought, "Hey, I'm gonna run in circles and jump around spastically so this person has more difficulty attacking me. This is fun!" Really it's just a pain in the ***, and it makes combat silly.

Well from personal experience P2P players usually are haters toward all F2P players and F2P players would usually say the P2P players are whining although not everyone is like that (so both sides rage). I do agree that you should be given something over the time since without the payment from the users the game couldn't have existed long.

I like to be able to get bashed up by enemies and dodge attacks to survive but that's just how I feel after playing MH on my psp and such. But it's all about personal likes/dislikes.
What if, like me, they just don't want to answer some self-righteous server cop a-hole?

well then you get killed... this has FOR about 7 years now been the typical practice on what was once the glorious server of bartz... you guys have it easy...typically their was about 4-10 pk'rs per new area and entire clans of nothing but reds...

don't like the reds don't play the game, hell even i have a pk toon to deliver my own justice.

So you wasted your time washing while I brez and go back to what I was doing. And how does that prove I was a bot?

What do you mean by you guys? I've been playing this game as long as you have.

Justice. Lol. You don't have a clue what justice is. And your bot detection skill (lol) after 7 years still sucks.
washing? its called a perma red... it has over 600 pk's.. which i deleted, made a new one, its soo easy to make new toons.. or hell even make an account just for PK toons.

i havnt' wasted any time if my mission was to go out and hunt toons, and no my "bot" detection is usually pretty dead on. most players speak up that are paying attention or at least respond.. or try to attack back.

I've had people like you run up and "bot test" me like that. I could tell immediately they were probably some 12-year old kid. If I answered back it was usually just "run along, kid".

No, your bot detention "skills" are nonexistent. If you can't tell a toon is a bot without trying to speak to it, you fail at L2. Seriously. Just stop trying to argue that.

If you just want to go out and PK random people, just say it. Don't try to pretend you're some kind of hero doing the server a favor.
Face the facts, the game is OLD. I shouldn't have to give a game a 10/10 because everyone else wants me to should I?

And you are ??
Been here since C1.
Most of the f2p scrubs give the rest of the f2p players a bad name thus making all of them scrubs. Pity I am one of those scrubs

Ontopic - playing L2 since c3 on privates. Played on retail for a couple of months 2 years ago
I dont give a -.- about F2P players. I ignore them. But what I cant ignore and what makes me ****** off is that I cant log in manytimes because server is full. I P2P this game for several years and some newcomers cause me this.
