If dual boxing was prohibited, many people would be discouraged from botting. With multi-boxing they can actually buff themselves each 20 minutes or even heal themselves when they have low HP and are in danger. Without the support classes, though, they might end up dying and they would remain laying in the dirt. Even if the bot users continued existing, this would certainly make their lives much harder. Low MP? They' d sit down for some minutes to regenerate. Low HP and no one around to heal as well as more than one mobs attacking the bot? The bot would probably end up being dead. You can' t program the bot to start running when its life is at risk. Just think about it guys. It' s perfectly logical. However, the ones that multi-box would dissagree with me (for egoistic reasons). To them' I' ve got to tell one thing: I play a character which needs quite a lot of MP. My computed could handle one box more, however, I prefer having a friend regenerating my MP instead of boxing a support class. I try to be as more sociable and pleasant to others (the ones I wanna become a friend with), because I think that THIS is one of the main aspects of the game that make it great. Making friends and fighting our way all along to the end. So I have concluded that in this way three problems would be solved. The bots would decrease, the congenial side of this game would be promoted (each one of us would have need of others) and there would be a wider variety in classes because more people would make support classes, something that would partly solve the problem that has recently occurred with the 32 classes merging into 8 new ones. After all, we need diversity, don' t we?...:D

Hm...You' ve got a point and I already thought about that. It seems to be a fine solution for everyone, however, bots won' t get eliminated because they' ll still be able to cope with the difficulties that PvE generates...Anyway, as I can see in the description of the players you have in Shilen server, it would be to your advantage :P. You wouldn' t lose anything, whereas those who would box more than 2 chars would get upset. So I assume that what you stated is not for the server' s common good, but for your own.

If you put it in the ToS/EULA then the botters will just ignore it (as they already are ignoring them by botting in the first place).
Any type of program that is installed to stop it can and will be gotten around; probably within a day or two on the outside.
In game reporting of any boxers isn't going to matter; look how well that worked on keeping the botters out.
All you are doing with this (so-called) idea is hurt the legitimate players, and take money out of NCSoft's pockets. You do realize if someone is dual-boxing then any XP/SP/Vit potions they buy for one character they'll have to buy for the second to make sure they level up together.

In every rule there are some exceptions. I myself have got a friend of my age that spent 10 thousand euros to gain 283742874 p attack in a corrupted PvP server. However, this rarely happens and as I stated before, I talk about the majority of the younglings...

Second your idea is horrible because there is no way to enforce it. About the only way to enforce such a thing would be to allow only one game to be open per IP; which of course would then keep families from playing together, and wouldn't really stop the botters since they will work around it.
Again; since you didn't seem to catch it the first time, your idea is only going to affect the legitimate players, and in the long run cost NCWest financially.

only problem is that most of the bots i see use mentor buffs on my server atleast , so no need for rebuff as long as mentor is logged in. As far as healing goes every single bot i see has a pet summoned to use greater heal when low hp ( the pet is fairly fast at healing ) not to mention killing mobs they can easily 2-3 shot so not much chance of dying. so no blocking dual boxing wont fix the bot problem, but do u know what will work? IP blocking anyone found botting that way they are cut off from our servers. blocking dual boxing would only hurt legitimate players more then afk players.

From the other hand, I think that I can be excused, since I am still not an adult and like most kids of my age, I like playing computer games. Anyway...I would like to state another thing too. Long ago, I had an affray with the administrator of a server I used to play in. He banned my account and I couldn' t log into the server from my pc, even when using a different account. However, when I tried to use my father' s laptop (same IP address), I found out that I could, hence I know that even if multi-boxing gets prohibited, there' ll be some way for those who wanna play as a family to do as they like.

2 important points about prohibiting multi boxing...
1. This will ONLY hurt legit users, NOT the bots. Because bot software has nothing to do with official client, they are completely independent software pieces that do not abide by any rules build into the client. If you disallow multiple logins from the same IP, you will stop many users behind NAT from playing, and now that IP space was depleted, there will be more and more such users with time passing.
2. This will punish former paying premium customers. Multi boxers payed a LOT of money for subscriptions when Lineage 2 was not free, and now stopping them from playing how they like would be very ungrateful.
Perhaps there should be a way to pay for multiple boxes, like maybe upgrade accounts to premium state and make it so that you can log in multiple premium accounts but not multiple free accounts at the same time. Of course there should be other benefits to premium account like slightly increased rates.
Or perhaps make it so that if you spend certain sum of NCoins in the shop, you get 'premium' status for the account you have spent it with for a month.

By saying that NCWest's financial stability is a weak argument you are implying that it doesn't matter that much to you. Most people; that did care about NCWest's finial stability, would agree that is a valid point, and then might try to offer a counter argument, and not try to dismiss it out of hand.

And if there are enough people that the servers are capped out constantly they will open another server. Also; if that is what you are worried about, they should push more to getting rid of the online shops first; since those are taking up a lot more server space than dual-boxers. Also some of those online shops are created for no other reason than to keep a spot on the server (saw someone selling the Tutorial Guide for 450 million adena). So the real problem there is the online shops and not dual boxers, since those shops are keeping from active players from logging in and possibly paying for XP boosts.
Kicking off dual boxers won't solve anything since now you are swapping out one paying customer for another, so you have achieved a net gain of zero.

You realize that you just stated why your idea would never work right; which has been my point the whole time? I personally have 5 different computer that I would be able to play L2 from if I wished, and if I wanted could easily get a bunch more really cheap (talking less than $100; which for me isn't really a big deal). So if I wanted to I would be able to box as many characters as I wanted all on different computers.
So again the only people that would be affected by this rule would be the legitimate people and not the bots, since they have already shown they don't care about breaking the rules, this wouldn't stop them for long.

Wouldn' t expect anything different from the vast majority of the forum members, since you are multi-boxing as well. So let me see if I got this straight; I'm 37 years old, work over 40 hours a week (electrical engineering job), I come home, cook dinner for me and the wife (I love to cook and had pretty much kicked the wife out of the kitchen), spend time playing,bathing, and feeding my 2 month old son, and then for 2-3 hours before going to bed I'll either watch some tv, read a book, or play some video games (usually MMOs). On the weekends I can usually devote a few extra hours to playing. But I have a sickness since I enjoy playing video games, and I find them a great cheap way for me to unwind at the end of the day.

Apparently, we speak about two completely different things...I assume from what you' ve said that you spend a few hours a week playing, whenever you have time. However, I was referring to the ones for whom L2 is everything and play 7 hours a day (for example). A kid would be excused if it did so, because most of them don' t know what they want from their lives and haven' t experienced as much as an adult (a grown adult, not a 18-year old one), hence I find grown ups who spend many hours a day playing rather pathetic.

I just hope this game doesn't become like Silkroad(botroad) online. That game was free to play but because of multiboxing bots and no attempt to fix it became a pay 2 play game because u had to buy an exp booster which also enabled you to log into the game even when the server was full..so for the rest of people that didn't have it too bad u cant play the free to play game lol.

When multi-boxing became prohibited, my visual life as a bot became much harder, till I finally decided to stop cheating. I generally never try to convince other people about something I haven' t got the slightest idea of. I always try to be aware of what I say and if I am not, then I do some research about it. However, as far as this matter is concerned, I happen to be completely aware of what I say.

To be honest, I wouldn' t care. They' re free to do as they wish, but that doesn' t change the fact that they are "no-lifers". I don' t care about them, but I do criticize them. I've know parents that can play for over 7 hours a day easily. They worked out of their home, usually would play a on a separate computer, so they can work and play at the same time, and would play while the kids were in school. They would quit playing when the kids came home, and spend time with them, and then maybe get back on later in the evening when the kids went off to bed for a another hour or 2. I see nothing wrong with that, and don't think it was lame at all. Their job would let them play while they worked; they would just need to go afk every once in awhile to take care of some matters.
Now I would agree that it is lame if parents are playing so much that it is detrimental to the family, but for that you can't put a time limit on it since for some families that could be as much as an hour. Plus the same goes for kids if they are playing so much it is affecting their school work that is also lame.

theres nothing wrong with making a suggestion, but your suggestion also includes legit players. ive already stated before, if im in a solo area, i dont want to share my xp, u want me to inv a live enchanter and share solo xp? lol i dont think so. this update has already reduced the dual boxing, and is forcing people to get in a group to do the party areas to get more xp and drops.

There are times when I'm not boxing and playing with a bunch of other people, or that I'll have my box up for a buffer for our clan party because we don't have another online at the time. But there are also times when I just want to do my own thing which involves a lot of exploring, experimentation, and usually dieing, and there aren't as many people want to do those things. There are also times when I just want to be left the **** alone, and lose myself in the grind so as to be able to just shut my brain off for a couple of hours.
But in the interest of rid of a couple of bots (if even that many) those last 2 options should be shut off to me; and others that might have a similar play-style or other reason on why they dual box?

I am mostly against triple-boxing or more, so I guess that I would be okay with dual-boxing, which means that both of us would be satisfied and bots would have to try a little more to exp. They' d have to reset the orders needed for their bots to work efficiently, something that could also result in their inability to do so and we wouldn' t "bump onto" characters with a whole train of support classes behind them. This would also allow other players to log in the game with greater ease, by not having to wait for the server to have space for them.

Not really. I was having a bad time back then, when I was botting. I was forced to remain awake till 3.00 in the morning to make sure that I had set the orders for the bots to grind efficiently, while having to wake up at 7.00 the next day to go to school. Moreover, I was always afraid of being killed by mobs, so I woke up once in a while during the night to check if everything was okay. Anyway, it is also a pain in the *** to try and learn how to make a new bot program operate. Usually, there are many things to learn about them and you might always forget to do something of importance, which could easily result in your being "*****" by the mobs.

Why would a family or a number of members of a family who play an online game be automatically considered "no-lifers" The economy is in the dumper so to say and if there's cheap entertainment at home why not stay home. It is expensive to take an entire family to a movie. Just my husband and I if we went and not bought anything other than tickets its $20 not including tax plus the gas to drive there. So the wise person out there would say well I pay for internet and this game I enjoy is free so why not stay home and entertain myself with what I have in front of me.

I think he is Greek, in which case he does have a point. His English is actually quite good for someone his age that knows it as a secondary language; hell it's better than a lot American 16+ years old. I never said that I am the most fluent speaker of the English language. Bare in mind that English is not my mother language and I hardly study it at school. However, comparing myself with (with or to?) my classmates and generally with other kids of my age, it becomes obvious to me that very few kids speak English better than me. I am just speaking the truth, that' s all...
I enjoy full screen game, but there is just not enough incentive to look for random party while you waiting for your friends to log on.
Even when in party, people often have to box each other, because friends don't want to lag behind.
I don't have any problem with dual boxing, but 3+ makes me sad, though I had 5 clients running some years ago. It's just too much work and you get tired.
Dual boxing is like the opposite of botting. You are more engaged in the process, while with botting you sit back and watch...a movie.
As someone already mentioned in other threads the best thing would be:
1. Sell adena for NCoin - that will put farmers out of business - thats the majority of botters.
2. After that you will have much easier time to spot actual players who bot.
3. Dual boxing have nothing to do with botting, same as running a shop on your second window.
Solution.. let us buy adena with NCoins then will the bots vanish.
Off-topic, but I had to chime in: You can buy adena with NCoins, but only indirectly. Buy an item which can be sold to other players for NCoins (there are a few) and which is, obviously, in-demand and sell them for adena.
By the way: This way is good for the server economy, since it doesn't lead to hyperinflation due to NCSoft printing money - all adena is from the drops and quests, as designed. CCP uses the same model for EVE Online.
Dual boxing is like the opposite of botting. You are more engaged in the process, while with botting you sit back and watch... a movie. funny enough to quote

All of these new comers who dont like people boxing can just go back to
their private server they came from.
I have supported L2 since Prelude, & now these noob private server kids

Yup. I dual box my SE, and have done so for 6 years.
Macros to target me, follow me. Target party1,2,3,4 and heal them, then follow me.
I run my 2box on 2 pc's and i just lean to the left and hit the right F-key.
With it being that simple, I can't imagine what benfit there would be to botting a boxed healer/buffer. OK i get it wrong sometimes and we all die (last week for example), but I would much rather have a real healer than a boxed one. but i would have my boxed one over a bot or a botted one any day.
I don't know how the OP would propose stopping dual boxing. One PC per client for me, no problem from a software perspective.
They can't block multiple access from a single IP, as it would kill internet cafe's shared locations (university etc).
I'm going to say that, from a business point of view, allowing the opening of multiple clients on one machine is missing out on a huge opportunity for potential revenue. In the past, it cost money for people to have multiple accounts, now you just create a new login and you're off. Now imagine thousands of people (many with no intention of ever using the L2 store) hogging up resources with their secondary buff pets, while contributing nothing to the upkeep of the servers. It's an unnecessary inflation of server populations that may not have any financial benefit for the company.
Of course preventing multiple clients to be started on one machine does nothing to deter the overly devoted or those that make money selling adena as they usually work with multiple PC's. However it is reasonable to assume that a good chunk of the playerbase won't have the inclination or the resources to multi-box simply for the added benefits of extra buffs.
Getting rid of the ability to dual box on a single machine would deter botting for some, but it would also give NCSoft an opportunity to sell buffer agathions for either mages or warriors that give GM level buffs for an hour.

1 xp pack for a main account & 1 xp pack for a buffer account so they
can both lvl at the same speed. :)
