Wow cant believe this game is click to move....and people paid for this at one time?

Are there any tips to this, since for the last 7 years every game like this I have played has used WASD?

I have paid for the last 6+years for click to move, and I love it. (and yes I have tried WASD and hate it).

Best tip I can think of is to go back to your WASD movement game.
Yeah, using mouse is like going naked to mall, grow up some1 like using mouse, another don't.
And WOW yes u can actually change movment to WSAD on the options.
It's actually pretty easy to get used to it, once you play a while like that, it's quite enjoyable. It's just a bit hard if you suddenly change from a WASD game.
i think it was this enter chat option to be able to us keys to move
Lol, good thing we still have a WASD system aswell here, cause with the current shops in Aden click to move fails ><

But yeah this game is really based on click to move, and we love the game for it :)
I HATE WASD games.
feel fre to use click to move.
and you will be stuck with very few hot keys to hit.
then you will slowly migrate to click to move, and notice how much better it is for this game.

many users also use a nostromo which takes the left hand away from the keyboard.

click to move just works.

although with the migration into goddess of destruction, and fewer skills...
maybe they will be able to pull wasd out of the black hole where it sits now.

played with wasd it sucks hard

click to move is epic <3 it
Complaining about the control system of an 8 years old game.
Seriously?
WASD like PacMan???

. . . really?

This post confuses me... Cause with click to move you've got a whole keyboard of hotkeys that you can hit... Compared to just the few that you have to hit around WASD, god forbid you have to move and hit a hotkey at the same time..

Now I've played WoW for 6 years, and I've played this game for probably 3 years over the course of 6 on and off.. Honestly I really enjoy Lineage2's PVP better than WoW's even being a "click to move" game..

I've played a lot of other MMO's too, any game that has done WASD movement usually gets it wrong and it feels to clunky and odd to play.. Click to move is simple, yet open in that your not confined to WASD on your keyboard for simple tasks.. Hell you can set a place to run to, then your free to do whatever while you run..

So yea if your just coming into this game and just now finding out that its click to move, be ashamed.. There are tons of videos online that you can and should watch before you try a new game.. It'll give you the general feel and let you decide if its worth downloading and trying..

If you don't like it feel free to go back to whatever WASD game you came from.

I love click-to-move! I hate WASD!
WASD to move is actually good. sometimes it gets annoying spamming clicks on screen to find ur target if u dont have macro set for it. like moving + targeting
WASD to move is actually good. sometimes it gets annoying spamming clicks on screen to find ur target if u dont have macro set for it. like moving + targeting

/target takes partial names too. You still have to verify if you got the right one, of course.

Click-to-move is great because it allows you to view in a different direction then your movement vector easily, and also utilises (somewhat, could be better) the game's path-finding capabilities, so you don't have to avoid every little landscape bump. This frees you of thinking about how to move somewhere, and frees the brainpower for other, broader categories - positioning, field control, target evaluation get more consideration. Also, it allows you to scan the horizon with your mouse for incoming targets outside of the name display range without having to fear you'll run down some cliff in the process.

WASD is useful, and I use it as well, but only in specialised situations like navigating a maze (a castle's interior, for example).
Thanks for the replies, (I knew I would get a rise out of some people with that). I will keep at it, just something I need to get used to.

Thanks for the tips. :)

While you're getting use to it, learn to search the forums as well. There's about 50 threads with idiots asking the exact same thing you asked.
Not sure why people are saying click-to-move is good because of pathfinding abilities of the game. If you use the /target command to target NPCs and press attack you will get stuck in a wall. If you click an area on the other side of a divider -- easiest example being the ruins in the beginner area -- some of the time you will go around the divider and other times you will get stuck in a wall. Clicking to move with tons of private shops in town leads to unwanted visits to shops and needing to make a large loop to go only a normally small distance.

If you are a ranged class, click to move works for kiting in a diamond pattern. In WASD games there is circle kiting and figure 8 kiting but you cannot attack while moving in this game so that doesn't work. The biggest reason click to move works in this game is because you have to stand still while attacking. If you were able to move while attacking then WASD would be useful.

Because of Guild Wars 2 & Aion, which will are WASD and have more optimized engines, don't expect a rework of Lineage 2. The closest game to this playstyle and graphics style that has WASD movement is Shaiya so maybe you should try that. Lineage 2 has WASD if you mess with it in the options but it is really bad so I don't recommend it.

This is the most open-minded answer you will get in this topic. The forums are full of fanboys and any change to the game is bad. If you suggest a change they will tell you to uninstall and kill yourself because the game should remain unchanged for 7 years. It is the hipster point of view: "I played it before it was cool so I have more rights than you and you don't matter."

I have a friend like you. When he first played L2 and realized that this game is click-to-move, he complained about it all time. But everything has itself limit. I couldn't stand anymore and exploded~ I said if he wasnt able to play, simply quit... But now he really enjoys the game~

I myself find nothing to complain about this click-and-move...
They should still fix the already existing WASD controls in the game, so people have the options of which kind of movement they use.
As an archer, and a avid mmo player in general(wow, Aion, Age of Conan awsd games in general). I can tell you click to move is the best movement scheme for kiting mobs, it may seem little hard at first but a skilled player will have no problem kiting mobs with click to move and less hassle with awsd. lineage2 was my first mmo so I might just be bias.
Nobody is saying they should remove point and click movement, only that they should properly allow for both.
I love click to move and f1~f12 skill shortcut. Pwn!

Get used or leave it.
Nobody is saying they should remove point and click movement, only that they should properly allow for both.

Yeah the awsd is a bit rough around the edges, all of a sudden your character stop moving, and you have to repress w or something or you get stuck on nothing, in general the movement in game is so god awful I don't even know what to do. They really should fix pathing.

Thanks for the reply, going F2P is going to bring many more that are uncomfortable with clicking all over a map to move so get ready and maybe a bit more patience with those that arent used to it....you never know they may be good solid players.
Love click to move system , works great in this game

Just in case if you still don't know... Lineage 2 allows you to play in both form. By clicking 'enter chatting' option in your menu, you can also use 'WASD' keys or arrow keys to move around.

You can use both at same time. But, I'm lazy and I like clicking once to get to where I want to go..:D
I use click to move (CTM) + enter chat. Love that CTM allows you to move directly to where you want in PVP/PVE, but enter chat gives me two rows of hotkeys easily accessible, 1 through = (equals) and F1 through F12.

Also, enter chat is more like other games, where you need to push a hotkey (T, y, enter, tab or whatever) to start typing a message.
I'll say it again and again, WASD is NOT for MMOs it's FPSes, deal with that reality, even in WoW I had to laugh at the morons using WASD to move, such easy targets to kill
what you do when you have no spot/point to click ?
Click to move isnt the best neither the worse.
WSAD isnt the best neither the worse.
Im used to both.
I like L2's click to move more. My opinion. Im used to it. 4+ years are alot.

WASD has been part of many games besides FPS for many many years. Try and round up how many 3D MMOs have point and click movement.

Point and click has its ups and downs, just like WASD does, but L2 would be better served if both worked fully, giving people the choice.

It's so far a beautiful game.

I somewhat agree with you. I always played click to move games when I started with MMOs, since they all used click to move way back, but after having played WASD-based MMOs, it's easy to see how this game could be an instant turn off for some people. I think part of the problem is that all those WASD games have silky-smooth framerates for the most part, and this game...doesn't. I probably shouldn't relate the two though. I will say this for clicking though: it lets you be lazier when you play, and you get a lot more opportunity to admire your surroundings. You will get used to it though.
Sadly I'm used to modern day games where they all have WASD so it's not always my favorite choice to use clicking but I will admit 90% of the time I'm lazy and only like using one hand so clicking to move isn't bad. I usually just like having all options of movement because sometimes I like doing one thing and sometimes I like doing another.
Just a tip to people who is annoyed with targeting while in crowded area and you don't want to run in that direction in lag or whatever.

Hold shift and target with your mouse that will make you standing still while targeting - clicking ground by incident. Useful in sieges.
what you do when you have no spot/point to click ?

In most cases, clicking into the sky will let your char run (or fly) in that direction.
I wasn't a fan of CTM when I first started playing, but it's grown on me. I use both since they each have advantages/disadvantages.
I HATE WASD games.

yea wasd games are pretty lame
I adore this game so very much... but I have always missed WASD movement. I know you can use it in the game, but it's very broken. I would love for them to bring proper WASD movement options into L2. This game is easily my favourite MMO (and, indeed, one of my favourite games ever), but the lack of proper WASD movement just pains me every day.
Is the WASD smooth movement...?

nothing wrong with click to move...

Feel for you, wow pain?

Well with a certain MMO losing millions each month be prepared to answer this question over and over.

@ RKD that is how you are going to treat thousands that are going to try this game that used WASD their whole lives...go play a FPS?

WASD works, it is just not strafing with WASD. IMO, strafing should be left to FPS. I use both WASD and click to move. CTM is better in PVE/PVP while WASD is best in town.
Click to move is the only way to play. That way when I target someone and F key a skill on them my toon turns and runs to them to attack... as opposed to clicking on someone and being told "you're too far away" and then having to chase them down with WASD and spam skill at the same time.

Some people will say "well you're just noob if thats why you like it" others will say "yea that makes total sense, using a skill out of range and having you're character automatically run into range for the skill is awesome" but then if you're like me you're thinking "what if I get a lag spike and they don't and they are not in the place they appear to be when i WASD my *** over to them only to find out that they teleport somewhere out of my range because they've been moving this whole time... well problem solve, even while lagging I can still 3 shot that mage on my Destroyer because even if they don't appear to be standing next to me on my client they could infact be right there"

it has it's benefits and it's downfalls.. for instance, during laggier periods (last 3 days for example) click to move is horrible. you click... you don't move... you keep clicking... you teleport to the spot after 15 seconds.. when the game isn't lagging it's better then WASD i believe.

WoW pain? No... lol. I did play EQ for 10 years though and most of that was through WASD. Clicking to move is nice & not a real terrible hassle, but wre WASD implemented properly in L2 I would switch to it again in a heart beat.

You may return to WoW. Your presence is not needed. Bye.
having the 36 shortcuts on the hotbar mapped to the top 3 rows of your keyboard makes it pretty useful in my opinion.
I Also move with WASD, Just press the W (S in my case) and Right mouse button, and you're free to go.
You may return to WoW. Your presence is not needed. Bye.

Don't be daft here, most other MMOs and RPGs for that matter are WASD, this has nothing to do with WoW.
Not complaining about Click to Move but, for the love of GOD, fix the current WASD this game has so I can move freely around town!
In some regards, it is true that WASD is superior in regards to navigation; though, being good at click to move takes skill and time invested to see all the subtleties that embody being "skilled" at it.

It's part of the challenge in the game itself ya kno. Adapt
I'm sorry, but I have no idea how would someone play l2 with WASD... I would probably need 5 mice to click my skills and potions.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea how would someone play l2 with WASD... I would probably need 5 mice to click my skills and potions.

Well, even with WASD you can actually reach 0-5 easily, then there're all the buttons around WASD (Q,E,F,R,G,C and such), F1-F4 isn't hard to reach either, so you can make quite some good shortcuts even in there (and you can still click the less important skills or just make alt/shift variations of the buttons for secondaries).
So it's not impossible, though click and move works (almost) perfectly for Lineage 2, so why bother changing it anyways.
I know its easy to reach all the shortcut keys, but if I was pvping while using WASD, I would probably stay in one spot and become an easy target for everyone. Or I would just keep holding W lol.
I use both, because sometimes my CTM bugs out, and clicking anywere; even on open ground wont move my char. Happens alot in towns or near stairways, trying to click on the top level from the bottom and my char won't move, then I can't click anywhere to move my character, it becomes stuck; so I need to use WASD to break out of that. Then clicking works again. It's probably an isolated issue for me though due to my crap computer.

But CTM does work well in this game and should be the primary way you move cause you can't play using only WASD, imo.

Being a dagger class however, I would prefer WoW controls, hate on the game all you wan't but it has amazingly smooth movement. WASD was superior because you could circle strafe. You could run a tight circle either clockwise/counter-CC switching back and forth around your opponent, while facing them and stabbing them the entire time. This made for very smooth and elegant backstabbing. If your opponent didn't know what they were doing, or used click to move, you could stay behind them pretty much indefinitely and stab away without them being able to face you. So being able to move smoothly using WASD was very important in WoW.

But since there's no real circle strafing in this game, and you have to stop running to use any skills, Click To Move is far superior. But if your really used to WASD, you can rebind your hotkeys using "enter chat" and use both. Really you should rebind your keys using enter chat either way cause the defaults are terrible.
Besides targeting being a tad difficult at times, the click gameplay adds a bit of grounding to the game. In every other game you have people jumping and running around like idiots, really kills the mood =P

Same here, I just click on my HP/CP bar and it fixes itself.
Click 2 Move was and will be the best system ever made, I can't forget the times when i trick and 1 shot robe armos with backstab by slightly moving to the enemies back.

WASD is the worst ever !
Just because they use it in WOW doesnt make it better, l2 pvp system is just... elite.

really? I'll have to try giving that a shot. I would like to just go all CTM, that would free up WASD for skills. But that would really take alot of getting used to as I played Tribes1+2, and currentlyTribes Next (T2 classic basically) competitavely; and 10+ years of using WASD for movement will be hard to change.

But thanks for the reply. It's worth considering for sure.

Trick, + click behind opponent + BS = kill...., will never be as epic imho, as circle strafing a paladin or warrior (during a 5 minute long fight), who is clicking to move, but is so slow he cannot turn to face you, because you are strafing back and forth, and all around him landing multiple stabs/skills( not 1) to his back, while he just tries to just face you to even auto-attack you.

It has nothing to do with WoW. If any other game I played had that smooth of strafing movements and being able to stab while running without having to stop, it would be Epic. It just so happens that imo Wow had/has the smoothess, movement system for pvp and pve(in any mmorpg i've played).

I understand it's a steep learning curve for those unaccustom to using WASD while hitting the keys around it at the same time, while using the mouse to rotate the camera, and your characters orientation, (which is what makes circle strafing possible), and all of these things have to be done fluidly. So for most CTM is simple and easier, and works ok in L2.

Plus it's more realistic (circle strafing that is). It's possible to run across someones FoV while facing them. Sidesteping, Crossovers, Shuffling ect.

I'll post an old wow video just to show you how a player with good movement can pretty much dominate and make players who are clicking to move or who are just bad at WASD look silly.

Watch how this UD Rogue is constantly moveing and using skills while moving, BS,CS,KS,Gouge,Evasion,Blind,Vanish,Kick ect, and always staying or trying to stay behind his opponents.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEGIPN9ohVI&feature=related

Yes I know the graphics are crap but it's an old movie, but a good example of WASD being superior to click to move. I miss being able to jump past opponents. 180 turn BS, and continue running straight away.

But I guess it's a matter of preference. Learning WASD does take some serious time. But it does give you something to practice while grinding.

**Important Note**

I am not putting L2 or anyone down in anyway. I stopped playing WoW, and came back to L2 and am enjoying it immensly. It's just my opinion that WoW had superior movement. L2 blows Wow away in many other areas though.
that spaz wow vid is terrible, jump much for no reason, but anyways... yeah wasd is far easier to use and is more efficient, obviously - no one can argue with that.

Plus in L2 strafing wouldn't do much, as the movement speed is usually far too slow when sidestepping. In L2 if you're lucky you can sprint (in a straight direction lol) behind your enemy and get a backstab in, but generally if someone has you targeted, they're going to turn to face you constantly, everytime they attack actually. Strafing wouldn't do much..... at all

Being good at click to move, especially as like a dagger in L2, takes tons of skill - more than it takes being good at wasd imo.
Ppl at work playing wow were very annoyed with not being able to jump in L2.

To me it seems in wow ppl jump alot for no reason what so ever.

Can they move from point A to B without jumping once?

I think not.
Dont they run faster when jumping?

All games tend to be frustrating at some point.
I think jumping makes the feeling a bit les painful. From time to time.
Same like flying and gliding in Aion. I used it alot. It just felt so freakin good. Its the only thing (and the music) I miss from the game :(
I actually hate WASD games unless it's an FPS or something with a ton of action.
Plus, you can set your keys to WASD movement. What are you complaining about?

You know that wasd controlls in L2 are ******ed and useless right? Love to see you pvp with a dagger using the wasd ^_^

You can crap on top of ur PC, doesn't make it a toilet.
When I want to WASD I just use my arrow keys, works like a charm.

Love how you posted an OLD video, want to know why? Because at some point early in the game people actually thought that circle strafing was "leet", you don't see the top Arena players ever using WASD anymore because using the mouse for movement has been proven to be superior and allows for more keybind options, same with click to move, it's superior and allows better access to your skills, because sunning around in circles doesn't actually kill your opponent, proper use of your skills does.
What's cool is that if I plug in my PS3 controller, I can move my character that way (Works better than arrow keys anyway).

So whenever I'm just walking somewhere, I just use that.

I can guarantee you the top Arena players(rogues for sure) still use WASD. point to click in WOW might work for a caster(still would be extremely weak), but for a rogue???? nonsense.

and stop with the "oh you have to spam too many skills" crap.

Get some skills, I can hit 25 different keybinds just as fast while moving in any direction and while circle strafing with WASD.

But I think playing arguably the hardest FPS game as far as learning curve and skill ceiling goes in Tribes 1, and Tribes 2 and currently Tribes 2 Next (free to play btw) competatively for 10+ years now gives me the ability to move and hit hotkeys without much thinking.
