the day l2 became f2p i got hacked the same day. had the best gears you could have in this game,
emailed them...took 4 weeks to awnser back then they said they couldnt help cause it didnt show in the logs and they cant do anything after 3weeks.
ncsoft know they have a failure in their security system and they just dont want to admit it

Uhh...Wrong, I had one of my accounts hacked a few years ago, it took a few months of NCSoft looking into it, but they found that it actually happened, and got my account back, and I got everything I had back. I have never used 3rd party programs, or done anything illegal in this game, but it does happen, not that often, but it does happen.
You can pick up a keylogger from almost any website you go to, they are created everyday, and antivirus systems cannot always keep up, so it is possible to have a keylogger and not know it until it's too late.
So to say only players using illegal means, or sharing info get "hacked" is not entirely true.

Yes, it seems to happen a lot recently. Someone I know who took a year-long break from the game came back recently, I accepted her as mentee, but then only a couple days later her account got taken over and all her stuff traded/sold (she's lvl 78 and more of a "plays the game to chat" person, so I am pretty sure there was no powerlvling service/bot program thing going on).
Like others already mentioned, the most likely problem is that some websites use an exploit with flash/pdf/whatever to install a keylogger on your system. It does not even have to be a "shady L2 website", the keyloggers I read about on the antivirus pages know LOTS of online games and send everything they find back to the keylogger owner, so it could be that you go to some generic gaming/lolcat website or maybe even a website for some completely different online game, pick up the keylogger, it reports all your various game login info back to the keylogger owner and that one then sells the login info for WoW to someone, the L2 info to someone else again, etc. - and those other people then empty each account and sell the adena they stole.
I also got hacked and both of my charcters linked to the account are now...how to say...yes...naked...they don't even have single adena left. Everythings gone...
I noticed two mails sent form the accout to the users "xiaobao" and "kiasdw"...maybe anything can be done against them!? Don't know... :mad:
it sickens me to read about some legit player being hacked and having everything they worked for taken. Over the near 8 years if you played this long it is entirely possible to have that much money. Especially if you've ran a clan or had friends quit and pass along gear and valuable items to sell. Not everyone cheats and bots. The game wasn't as easy as it is now and some of us old players know how to farm adena through quest rewards. Maybe he hoarded mats and crafted items to sell and saved up. There's a lot of factors besides buying adena. Everyone's always quick to accuse.
I think you could change your passwords daily and it doesn't make you any more safer than the guy who has never changed his. It helps,but I don't think it's major. I've been sent fake emails where the sender claims they are NC support and that I need to enter my info because my account has been suspended. First rule: Never follow links in emails. Second if you are worried,close the window and open a new one and log into your accounts from the official site. Low and behold my accounts were fine and in good standing.
Ugh, all these hackings are sickening. It'd be nice if NC chimed in on the issue, it's obviously prevalent.
This among the suspended petitions,botters,program users,login traffic and adena spammers will kill this game just like Aion. It's sad that a community of players who have been loyal since beta have to deal with this. If NC offered pay servers I'd be all over it. Paying keeps out the trash and manageable server populations. I predict in 6 months all that will be left is bots and spammers.

The same thing happend to me, I can't say I had Billions but I had Millions worth of enchanted Gear on, all my valueable items got taken from my account, and bank and what couldnt be sold or sent out via mail was sold to a vendor.
1. This happend when the game went Free 2 Play, it was fine for years before that because I had quit playing.
2. NC Soft did not add secondary password which protects just incase a keylogger got installed, yet I donwloaded a F2P MMORPG recently called Dragona and they offerer 2 secondary password options and a way to lock your character with another Password just incase.
3. I submit a ticket over a week ago still have not got no response to getting my gear back and can't even play the game.
4. I checked my computer with my AntiVirus that detects viruses, and also Malaware bytes It found no viruses period.
5. I dont know when or how long it is going to take for them to fix these problems but they should have already put in a Secondary Password system to prevent such to others because this is stupid that we can't feel safe even playing the game.
6. No I did not use the same password as all other services either, I use different passwords even changed my L2 Password yet again.
7. I have no shared my account info with anyone else.
Also I have played L2 Since 2006 at least that I know of I just quit because I got tired of the boring grind and such but all my stuff was there for years until it went Free 2 Play. It seems like if someone had my info as I did not change my info from not playing for this many years they would have logged into my account renew the subscription and taken all my stuff years ago while I was not even interested in L2.

My sympathies m8, I know how it is playing legit, I am one of those guys myself.
But, did NCsoft replied back that they will not even investigate on this matter? This sounds really unprofessional.
I would also worry more than just only for the game. If you haven't used a net cafe pc or someone elses pc to log into your account, you should start worrying about keylogers on your very workstation. Meaning that they might have caught all your password for all the applications you have been using.
I would not trust my pc anymore and I would suggest you re-install everything from scratch, unless you are confident you can remove all the "Shilen" sent evil creatures from your pc.

I would not worry about the website. SSL is used for encryption and the site's certificate is encrypted with an RSA 2048bit key, which is quiet secure. This means the password is sent encrypted to the website and should be safe.
The only possibility is if he used a link from a possible phising email that redirected him to a malicious site pretending to be the official web page.

If you would read more carefully, you would see, that more than 90% of the players with hacked accounts have neither shared their account data, nor habe a used the game on a public machine or have keyloggers installed. Its just happening random, no matter if you were playing for years, or just started playing, it even don't matter if you changed your PW from time to time...so why you register here, just to blame others???
If I read a post like yours, I'm just hoping that you're the next, whos account gets hacked, so that you can also share this annoying situation with all the other legit players!!!

What this guy said, I have access to dozens of accounts, all which had MUCH more monetary worth than mine, and none of them got hit but mine, and same thing also happened to TWO friends of mine. Same here and agreeing to the point with the selection of gear...
To be specfic about what happend is I logged into my account, and found all my characters stripped of gear, I found some of my characters which I believe to be in different locations not sure but looks like they vendored the non tradeable items and sold off my gear then took all the gold from all my alt characters, my main character only had a little bit of gold left on my account everything else was stripped and left there. The only explaination I could coem up with is someone got access to my account and mailed the items because I had sent items to my alt characters myself but had noticed those messages in the sent mailbox were deleted.
I really dont know I would really like to see NCSoft add a Secondary Password System, and a character lock password system so that if a character is locked like in Dragona for example you have to remember the password to get back in so basically it works like this. I had made a peti**** on the forums but it appears asking for a new security system with that title broke the rules so it was removed instead of changing the title.
1. You login to the game user name and password, and lets say for the sake of it someone had a keylogger if the login was from a different IP adderss than the usual person it would send them an email warning, I know some game companies do this.
2. When you login to the game you are prompted to press in a code secondary passwords can be anywhere from 6-12 numbers for example and not repeated either like 1 after the other etc.
3. For additional security the person can enter a third character lock password which has to be used to unlock the character if they are going away for a long while like for example what happend to me when I went away for those years. * Each locked character can have a different password.*
4. Additional Security would be to require a password for deleting anything on the account, sending, or mailing items one time per login from that IP address so you use the secondary password to get in but evne need a third password to do this and it is a password used for that and purchases.
5. Require a name of the character when you login to the account like in Guild Wars, even more security.

They left quite a few things behind on mine, took my weapon, my adena, 50 or so lvl 80 lifestones, and some morai random drops. But they left 20+ ele stones, and the top / high grade life stones I had, and a warrior hat. Just seemed a bit odd, like they didn't really know what theyre doing.
Why are you going to take 50 lifestones that sell for maybe 200k, when I have 40m in ele stones in my inventory?

This is a copout, I've played this game 6+ years and have not heard of that once, until now when NCsoft and you nerdrage LOLOLEBAYERBOTTERNOOB kids need a scapegoat.

- Do you have same log credential in other on-line game (Y/N)?
- Just before you get hacked have you been doing any changes in your game account? (buying coins/sending web petition/etc)
Game:
- have you notice something strange in game before you got hacked?
- have you been using just before hacked 'path of awaking'?
Habbits:
- what game forum(s) are you using? (possible source of infection)
- do you have same profile/pwd on some forum like in-game? (Y/N)?
- If you have same : what one?
- are you using special, special tools/proxy (like battle ping or kind of)?
- before being hacked have you got some mail about possible **** in any game?
its hard to say what is the best way to protect your items if you are hacked/scammed or whatever you name it. Maybe have an account full of level 1 toons and store your valuables on there and most of your adena. I guess if you have a good clan they can help you gear back up or reroll. I guess 1-80 is pretty simple with a mentor so they say. I know I'd be very upset if I logged on and everything was taken. I'd consider quitting at that point possibly. I don't do all that work so someone else can take it.
Defiantly watch out for fake emails,I've gotten them. Open a new browser window and go to the official L2 site and log in and you'll see that your accounts are not locked out or anything. Remember any GM conversations via email will never ask for logins,passwords or info because they already have it if they are emailing about your account and if you sent in a ticket to support they already know what they need to.
Ok guys, I have no respect for the trolls that come on and say it is your fault for getting hacked. For all we now they are the hackers. Unfortantly, my guild in Rappelz has some experince with hackers, and you do eventually get your stuff back but it has taken some people a month or more to get stuff back. The best thing you can do is take screen shots of all your stuff. When you mail the gms send the screen shots, that way they can verify that you had what you say you had.
Does this game warehouse have a password? If not it needs one. That is what we have to protect ourselves in rappelz. The warehouse password must be entered to get into the warehouse and to delete characters. If you put everything in your warehouse before logging off the hackers get nothing from you and you still have all your characters.
Sorry you guys got hacked and I hope they give you your stuff back. It is not your fault it is over 3 weeks old, its theirs. I would tell them that.
The best thing you can do is take screen shots of all your stuff. When you mail the gms send the screen shots, that way they can verify that you had what you say you had.
That's a good idea. You can do this everyday when you log off. Just open up the inventory and hit a button and done! You could do it once a week too. At least you have something to stand on with this.

friend had same thing happen....but.. a very big but..cut a long story short... after alot of digging, it turned out a clan member had taken his gear! how u ask?
over the yrs they had played together in same clan, this thief had built up alot of knowledge, where he works,family,friends,hobbies,d.o.b etc..and from there was able to **** his account.... :confused:

yeah i agree that there is something wrong with NCsoft or NCwest what ever its called with their fire walls and accounts securities , Or maybe there werent ready to launch GoD and get everything ready they Just rushed into things , and if they saying that The have been looking into logs and havent found anything then i am sorry you must be blind for not seeing it , Its your Job to check into files So go thro it again and again untill you find the defect , thats how it should work , and find a Solution for those Hackers and get rid of them .
as for the mean time Change your Pw every week , dont make your Pw as the Same ID as your Account , Dont make your ID named after your email , dont make your ID named after your real name , Dont use any Bot program , Dont log in any suspicious Website . **** what am i saying , Just turn off your PC and Dont log in anything lol

In my Point of view the person who is doing that i a "No Lifer Person" I mean what will he gain from stealing an account in game ? (Except for annoying the owner ) he wont gain anything at all , Its not like he is going to sell it for real money or anything.
Actually that's what they do,sell the adena to trading sites for real money. They in turn resell it to player who buys it. He gains plenty out of it. Either you are extremely stupid or are just trolling and have no idea the things people do to cheat at this game. They don't do it to "annoy" the owner of the account, would you compromise an account just to annoy someone? I'm going with no on that because you don't spend time trying to generate a working login/pw combo to just annoy someone,you do it for personal gain.
Reg date on forum displayed is NC account date... I only came to the forums in 2007 and my date is 2006...

When an NCSoft account is created prior to this recent change to the forum software structure...... it would not create a forum user account until you actually registered with the older forum. At which point a separate password and username could be created that didn't in the least bit match the original account name.
My clannie just got hacked, all his adena and soulshots were stolen, and he checked his mail, stuff was sent on some QMX. Could some gm check wtf is going on, every day more ppl get hacked!

i do fear the day i login to see a stripped toon and a feeling of violation.
i don't click links, i keep my account info private, and for some reason i still feel that if someone wanted in enough or knew me well enough in game they may one day figure out how to access my account.....

while the term "hacking" or "hacked" may not be correct account can be hijacked and security measures bypassed in a variety of ways ....
the day l2 became f2p i got hacked the same day. had the best gears you could have in this game,
emailed them...took 4 weeks to awnser back then they said they couldnt help cause it didnt show in the logs and they cant do anything after 3weeks.
ncsoft know they have a failure in their security system and they just dont want to admit it
so they take their time to awnsers petition so they can use the it doesnt show in the logs cause it happened to many weeks ago excuse

They aren't taking their time, it does take them a while but in case you haven't noticed there are only so many GM's and every server has more people on it then all the server's combined back when it was P2P.
It's true that it may have taken them longer then their logs go back to get to your post, but they have to answer every single petition out there.
Best thing for you to do in a situation like that is call their Customer Support line, you may get a result much sooner then waiting for a response to be escalated through the petition system.

Check few posts about, my friend got hacked too by same character. And its not cos of mentor or mentee for sure cos i was his mentor. Can pls some GM do sthing about it we even have info about a **** char!
