I've been a gamer for a long time so I feel I know a thing or two about games.

I got Lineage Two because I saw an add for it in my NCsoft launcher as I was waiting for city of heroes to download it's update.

First Off I like NCsoft, I pay for COH and I've play guild wars.

Honestly I am very very disappointed in Lineage 2 !

Please do not use "it's old" as a defense.

The game is one of the worst I've ever played! I have played free games like shaiya and much preferred them.

Why I dislike it:
First off the installer I was given was about 5 gigs but was not playable until I downloaded a 6.8 gig patch.

Secondly the character Creator was brutally low budget. Q. What face do you want? A. Apparently one of the 3 we bothered to create! Also very little hair color selection. (for the record I wanted jet black)

I selected one of the very few servers which were all marked as full. I then attempted to play. I was forced to endure a pain full tutorial !
I then noticed most of the chat that was running through the window was not english. (didn't see any servers marked english)

Still I didn't let the poor graphics and U.I. look stop me. (had graphics at high and even turned on the extra ones) I found myself an english speaking girl and adventured out to fight.

Combat: Generic monsters (wolf, fox, Kobald). I got killed by a wolf as I had no gear and no skills yet. Ran back to find my party member had been Pked. (player killed) Got to level 5 and decided to move on to a new location.

Exploration. A map that looks like it was drawn by a five year old guided me to exploration area 5. (yes that was the name on the map)
I then found that I could not climb the slow rolling hills that guarded the place. I turned back only to find myself stuck and unable to move.

I found the auto unstuck function and teleported back to the start area.

By that point I felt the game really wasn't worth playing. I felt I owed it to other gamers to leave a suggestion in hopes that the game will get fixed. I was unable to leave a comment because the window did not support the use of a mouse, did not wrap text properly, and only allowed 256 characters.

It should also be noted that the lag time between a chat window typed comment being entered and it being displayed was about 40 seconds.

NCsoft what were you guys thinking when you released this ? I'm actually embarrassed on your behalf.

So I post here in hopes it will be seen and taken to heart.

- In case it is useful I have DSL 5meg down, 600kb up, with a good ping, a computer with quad core 2.83ghz, duel nvidia cards in SLI, 8 gb of ram, an SSD, 24 inch full HD monitors. I just wanted to make it obvious the issues are likely not from my end. -

Thats why we play L2...and you should go back to GW or CoH xD

About installer...you realy should learn to read. Thats all.

And hey...guess what...its old!
Someone hasn't read the lore behind the names of the areas...

Thats why commenting his post is pointless... He playd the game...15 mins? 30 mins? And he already want to judge rules of L2 World.
Lineage 2 is not about map and graphipcs.
Ultima was not about map and graphics.
Diablo 2 was not about map and graphics.
Warcraft 3 was not about graphics.
WoW is not about graphics.

A question to you. What mmorpg were you playing 8 years ago? Then compare Lineage 2 to them.

Since GoD update, there are quests added for players to speed up the lowbie leveling process. Level 1-40 are done by quest. Then lvl40 onwards till Awakened (85+) by daily quests & grind I think (I do not know much from lvl40-80, since I haven't played one after GoD; so correct me if I'm wrong :)). The real gameplay starts at 85+, but if you don't want to waste the time to get to 85+; then Lineage 2 is not a game for you.
Please do not use "it's old" as a defense.

its old!

It's old!

For a long time player you let graphics influence you too much. That's like saying lineage1 is one of the worst games of all time cause the graphics are not like today's games and yet was and still is very famous.

Go back to your pretty shiny pony world.:D We like our old school stuff.
I've been - likely not from my end. -
bla bla bla

Lol If you dont like it then bye. Why did that guy post here????

Ok, first, this game has been out for years, yet you just started now and are judging it like it just came out.

Second, I don't what games you play but Lineage 2 is the best f2p mmorpg I have seen to date. It has balanced pvp, a large number of races and classes, pets, summons, and does not have a cash shop that competly unbalances the game like most have.

Third, you are really trying to say Shiaya is better? Well, I have played both aswell, but unlike you I have so far spent the same amount of time in Lineage 2 as I did in Shiaya. One of my first experinces in the that game was another male character running up to mine and saying kiss me, kinda of a turn off. Then the fact that you can't go anywhere in pvp without spending months to years ingame getting to hard and ultimate characters that get more stats per lvl and are just made to be stronger. And it has the predrawn line in the sand for war, when you made your character you picked a side. We play Lineage 2 instead because we hate that here are your allies here are your enemies system.

Fouth, please play the game for atleast a week and judge it then, heck if you only went to lvl 5 then you don't no a dang thing about this game and can only make baseless arguements.

5th, compare it to other games built like it and it still comes out on top. Do me a favor and go try Rappelz, the tell me that Lineage 2 is the worst you have seen. Rappelz has all the same problems that Lineage 2 has, plus lots more problems and minus about half the fun.

And finally if you don't like the game just leave, don't try to convice others it is a bad game when you never even gave it a far chance. If lineage 2 is not the game for you then fine.

PS, the Map system is actually really good, not sure wth you were looking at but it was not the map.
Thanks for your feedback.
Mabey some valid points, but the game is still a ton of fun to play.
I as well have played many mmos for a long time, seen better and worse on all categories except 1, and it hurts cause i love the game but HATE the community, definely the worse community of any mmo probably ever.. and not because of language, but extreme bad manners all around, like playing with a bunch of 10 year olds.
I cant find another MMORPG to play that can be as fun as L2.

The only problem to start playing L2 is that there are so many specific things and stuff to learn that you'll find yourself lost in the middle of soulshots, classes, npcs and stuff that you don't have a clue about.

I have an older Phenom tri-core, 4 gb of ram, 320 mb/s Read SSD, 1gb 4870, Windows 7 - and this game runs smooth as butter on High. Don't know what to say... maybe reformat? Did you even play around with the graphic options at all?

He said that he could play the game at maximum without lag/delay or graphic problems. He was just saying that the problem is that the game is poorly made and not hist computer.

Still, I disagree.
he probably plays on a gameboy type pc thats powered by a car battery and he has an IQ of 80. (u died to a wolf. u is teh smartist brow ever)

and is now not complaying or giving feedback, no, he is purely hardcore QQing.

i am glad that wolf killed u and hopefully has now made u go back to ur other awesome games. and i will also thank that pker who supposedly killed ur teammate and made ur game less fun.
L2 is boss. enjoy your CoH and GW.
I'm thinking the OP has found l2 "too hard" and should move on to a game more suited to his capabilities.

Anyone else think "Hello Kitty Island Adventure" might be the game for him?
I rly like how lineage 2 look, graphics , map , movement
well some of new 85+ skills look more like star wars but until GoD it was perfect
Do not turn this game in to another shiny anime mu online parody plz
what game did you play for 8 years? Super Mario?

Guys, what game is the best?!

for me it's Lineage 2!

Boom! in your face!
L2 is a love/hate kinda thing, but the cons are heavily outweighed by the pros.

Cons:
-Poor character costumization.
-Lack of quests.
-No proper GM-monitoring.
-The ping creates client side delay making it harder to target moving targets.
-Gameguard is terribad.
-The map sucks and sometimes makes you go "where the ***** do I go now?" when questing.
-Brain decaying monotonous PvE.

Pros:
-It's awesome.

Then, don't play. I mean I've only been playing for maybe a week? I find this game to be awesome. I guess you just don't have the respect for older games...
I mean, I checked out City of Heroes and it doesn't appeal to me at all. It's all personal preference. Only difference is that most of us here at L2 have enough sense to abstain from raging about it on their forums.
The tutorials are there fore completely new players to learn how to play the game, the very basics.

Sounds like OP skipped them, wandered around aimlessly, and is now unhappy with his gaming experience.

Maybe try reading tutorials every now and then?

I kinda wished for a while that I was the pker in his lil monologue, but I only ran through RoD, RoA and Wastelands on mine last week.

But do not fear. My new perma archer is closing in on S grade :D

They made lvling far too easy now.
I did not say I was Judging it on graphics alone. However I did find them choppy, and a little blurry when the camera panned.

And yes I played with all the settings, read and looked through every menu before making the decision to post.
I was attracted to the game because of the classes / races. I spent some time reading up on them while waiting for a 6.8 gb patch.

I loved D2, Liked WOW (except for the constant tampering by devs), liked guild wars but got a little board after my fifth 20. I much prefer COH, looks smoother, I can pick how my character looks, etc.

8 years ago I was likely playing Diablo 2.

I did not find the game challenging from a me vs monster stand point. I found the U.I. and game play very difficult. For example wasn't it ALT +M for map and yet you are also supposed to be using the F-keys for your skills. (potential issue) I remapped them but I could not map to the keys I wanted. Also incase your unaware for some of us the F keys serve additional purposes. - And please don't take it as me just bashing that one aspect of the U.I. there were others I disliked.

- Snobb my IQ is well over 80, I don't really enjoy personal digs, and yes there is a battery attached to my comp, it's called a battery back up. As it stands I am in between MMORPGs and was really hoping L2 was right for me.

Learning new things is not an issue for me I did learn all the WOW lore and dungeon names and what not, I was willing to pick that up from this game.

As for Shiaya I was using it as an example for a baseline comparison only. I found that game easy to install, easy to start playing and fun right away. I can't speak for end game on either game. What Shiaya had the L2 did not was smoother refined game play on a free game. (yes I'm aware L2 is free now also, I did pay for a month or so)

I've not played Rappelz so I can't comment on it. I probably won't play it.

I wasn't really trying to say hay everyone on the L2 forum ditch game immediately and quit with me. What I was trying to was leave comment so that the game could be improved in the areas it's weakest in. I would use my post as a warning to new comers who join expecting a a game like wow, D2, guild wars etc. (something they can immediately feel comfortable playing)

As for names - that's up to the devs when creating a game but I would imagine that captivating names keep interest better. I didn't wander the game and explore it all but I didn't like the starting area that much.

I said "don't use it's old as a defense" for a reason. Guild wars has been out for a fair bit of time. I liked the art including the paper copy book that came with my collectors edition of nightfall. I also liked the way D2 looked, sure it was crude but the camera didn't give me head aches. I also never found my self defeated by terrain in D2. In D2 the monsters were varied and kinda unique looking for what it was. (an hero vs undead and demon game) Want another example or two? I liked Starcraft 1 even with the fact that you couldn't hardly see the units because it was aerial view. Or perhaps even Mario, fun, easy to get into and I always new which cubular thing was Mario.

I forgot to mention in my first post that I found a very tough monster. It was unkillable. (A kobald stuck in the ground / that was untargetable)

I'd play for a week or two but honestly I have other games that I can play and to be frank the U.I. was on my nerves after the short duration I played.

If you can point me to a complete re-skin and add on menu system like wow's healbot, grid and DBM maybe I could deal.

It's hard to hear bad things about anything you like but criticism may just improve what you love and make it all the better.

I posted because I felt strongly. I doubt that I am the first and only person to do so about a game. I bring we me lots of experience and I feel that posting my opinion is a valid option.
If you're playing the game "wrong" and fail at it and then get frustrated that's pretty much not L2's fault ...

Have fun in whatever game serves your limited capabilities better!
Anyone mind googling "games for disabled"?

I'd do it, but I cant enable disabled in my googlez.
SmittieI kinda wished for a while that I was the pker in his lil monologue, but I only ran through RoD, RoA and Wastelands on mine last week.

But do not fear. My new perma archer is closing in on S grade :D

It was not I that got Pked it was the lvl10 human fighter that was with me. It apparently happened to her so much so that it was hindering her ability to go out and level.

I'm all for PVP and heck even the ability to PK, Some times that's fun and a good stress releaf. I was told from the web guides I read preplaying that players that PK would be flagged and killed by other more kind players. Sadly this did not seem to be the case. I've killed my share of people in WOW, a few did not deserve it. However there were atleast protected starting zones and non PVP servers.

I did not check every server as I didn't have time. If there is a non PVP server I'm sorry, I must have missed it.
There is only pvp servers.

The amount of time in your l2 playtime that you will be bothered by reds will be so very small compared to the time you actually enjoy it.

I go on permared runs when someone has annoyed me. So far that has happened 2 times.

But seriously. Ask the newbie guide for the protection buff. Then you can not be pked by reds 10 lvls higher or more.

When I did my perma runs, only the bots had that buff. The players all told me to leave them alone and kill the bots, but my hands were tied, I can only kill stupid ppl that dont take the buff.

So please, help me not kill you by being smart. And TAKE THE BUFF.
I've been a gamer for a long time so I feel I know a thing or two about games.

Let's test that theory.

I got Lineage Two because I saw an add for it in my NCsoft launcher as I was waiting for city of heroes to download it's update.

Understandable... Lineage 2 is not a heavily promoted game and truthfully this update was more promoted than the initial release of the game.

First Off I like NCsoft, I pay for COH and I've play guild wars.

Never played them, but I've heard good things about guild wars.

Honestly I am very very disappointed in Lineage 2 !

Let's see why...

Please do not use "it's old" as a defense.

It's an MMO so it should never be... "old" due to content added over time.

The game is one of the worst I've ever played! I have played free games like shaiya and much preferred them.

Really? I played Shaiya and honestly I found it to be a very boring, faction (ugh) cash shop ridden game. Then I pvped and missed L2 that quickly.

Why I dislike it:
First off the installer I was given was about 5 gigs but was not playable until I downloaded a 6.8 gig patch.

It's a big game... also why is that a reason?

Secondly the character Creator was brutally low budget. Q. What face do you want? A. Apparently one of the 3 we bothered to create! Also very little hair color selection. (for the record I wanted jet black)

lol! True.

I selected one of the very few servers which were all marked as full. I then attempted to play. I was forced to endure a pain full tutorial !
I then noticed most of the chat that was running through the window was not english. (didn't see any servers marked english)

Full servers are a good thing! Also coming from me personally, be glad there was a tutorial, when I first started... there was no direction, no map, no guideline; just make a character, log in, figure out what to do yourself.

Still I didn't let the poor graphics and U.I. look stop me. (had graphics at high and even turned on the extra ones) I found myself an english speaking girl and adventured out to fight.

Considering the game is running on an extremely old Unreal 2 engine. The game looks fantastic and it still looks better than most MMOs.

Combat: Generic monsters (wolf, fox, Kobald). I got killed by a wolf as I had no gear and no skills yet. Ran back to find my party member had been Pked. (player killed) Got to level 5 and decided to move on to a new location.

If you were following the tutorial, you would have never fought these. Looks like its not as painful as it seems.

Exploration. A map that looks like it was drawn by a five year old guided me to exploration area 5. (yes that was the name on the map)
I then found that I could not climb the slow rolling hills that guarded the place. I turned back only to find myself stuck and unable to move.

Again, if you were following the tutorial, you would not be in that situation. Seems like your freelancing is much more painful than the tutorial.

The game was never broken, you just... didn't follow the tutorial like the other thousands of players, in your server alone, had correctly done.

It should also be noted that the lag time between a chat window typed comment being entered and it being displayed was about 40 seconds.

So... how are you able to run Lineage 2? When everyone else is chatting, the text hits the screen when the finger hits "enter".

NCsoft what were you guys thinking when you released this ? I'm actually embarrassed on your behalf.

From what I've read, I'm more embarrassed on your behalf.

So I post here in hopes it will be seen and taken to heart.

DSL! That answers half of my questions! And from some of the problems you listed, you may want to check out your system. The rest of the problems are completely your fault.

Sincerely,
A Long Time Gamer

Read above comments in read.

Have a nice day!
last I checked..

33 WoW servers in KR
26 L2 servers in KR

Thats a considerable amount not counting, TW, ***, CN.

This game is at no point was designed for Western Market. We also play game differently from our Asian comrades! The way we play it, makes it popular here which is again different from what L2 suppose to be.

Cut it short, if you dont like it, dont worry you are just part of the MAJORITY that do not enjoy this type of game, some of us do thou :D
Had to check....

Geee there are 14 L2 servers in Russia vs 20 WOW servers....

Following the trend of private servers player flow, I wonder how many L2 servers there would be if we had NCsoft Latin America o.O
Longtimegamer i'm surprised with that nicknameyou weren't able to follow simple instructions, for instance you must not get off the initial train quest and go fight random mobs, why? Because:
1-It teaches you basic stuff about the game you NEED to know (use of soulshots, importance of buffs)
2- You will lvl up EXTREMELY fast thru those chain quests (lvl 40 in few hours)
3-You will get MILLIONS on adena and all the EQUIPMENT you need from those quests without expending 1 penny.

Concluding; create a ner char FOLLOW the train quest don't go play rambo if you don't know the basics, and yeah you don't if you got killed by a wolf. SO get down your ego and start over like normal people do.

And it also prevents you from trying to enter an area for 85+ players, since those are also on Talking Island ...
I would play this game even if it was black and white :D

Um all newbie players can get a buff of protection from people more that 10 levels higher than themselves. It is nearly impossible for u to die in newbie area if u have this buff. But maybe u didn't stay on long enough to learn about the newbie guide and what buffs are available to u.

Are you Serious?
I don't agree with balanced pvp, I found the one in Guild Wars much better, but anyway...

L2 graphics are a bit rough around the edges and cartoonish, but for me it's part of its charm.
You can't judge a game with 15 minutes of gameplay, particularly if you didn't follow the prompts and quests that take you by hand and guide you through the initial phases. Before GoD there wasn't anything of this sort, you needed to figure out what to do alone.
I started playing two weeks ago and I thought of Lineage 2 in a very similar way than the creator of this topic does. You have to give it a chance, not judge on 15 minutes of gameplay, you didn't even get to leave noobie-land. :D

I totally disagree on the graphics, the graphics are gorgeous.. and I did play quality games like GuildWars, of course Lineage 2 graphics do not compare but there is a lot of detail in the grand map you're playing and some places are absolutely beautiful. (Enchanted valley?)

The server you were playing on must have been lagging (mainly because of the high popularity of this game and because there is an event going on) but other than the server I was playing on crashed... I have never experienced lag in the chat, only mobs sometimes during events. :/

I do agree with the character creation though, I would love to look a little bit more unique. :D I had to buy myself some bunny ears in order to stand out a little!
I don't agree with balanced pvp, I found the one in Guild Wars much better, but anyway...

Might be because GW has got a huge variety of skills, yet you can only choose to take 8 with you, therefore it's not that hard to make a counter-build for almost anything (And the secondary classes also help a lot with that).
Having a different skill system, L2 would be only very balanced if the classes would have very similar skills in both strength and effects (ie.: self buffs, self heals, every class with same CC skills), but then it would ruin the variety.

Edit: Just so I'm not off topic.
Personally I like the graphics of Lineage 2, maybe on medium/low it isn't that good, but there are some pretty nice and unique locations. And you have everything: ruins, deserts, steampunk area, caves, forests, waterfalls, snow, mines, the best looking cities of all games, castles, fortresses, clan halls, mountains and I could enlist these forever - quite the variety in this. Also most of these places look still pretty awesome, considering they were made like 7+ years ago.
The tutorial is a bit dull, but at least somewhat fast now, still thousand times better than the old class change quests we had (even though they had some decent story to tell).
I also agree that the new Talking Island might be weird for new players, but if you've played L2 before, then it kind of breaks your heart to see the old village gates and the obelisk of city in ruins.

The first few monsters right outside of villages aren't very unique indeed. But don't worry, there's a huge variety of mobs later on, at least more than what I've seen in other games.
No clue what's the problem with UI, it's pretty simple and works well, in my opinion (though I still don't understand that weird thing on skills enchantment window).

You must not have ever seen a screen or played WoW if you think L2 has cartoony graphics, because it's anything but that
I have seen some WoW screen, and I intended to write "A BIT cartoonish" -- anyway, bright colours and almost non-existant proportions is not what I call "realistic graphic", lol
Lol, yeah I have actually played Wow for about 20-30 hours (My friends are getting me to play WoW's up to Lvl 20 F2P, while I am getting them to try L2), and compared to that game, this game is lightyears ahead, even though L2 is older. Even compared to Guild Wars, your play testing out a game that is 2 years older then that. Nothing is worse then (If you can get past the cartoony chars in WoW) running past a tree and seeing its a 2 dimensional cardboard cut out in an X formation. I was also expecting alot of customization in WoW, but noticed it was just as limited as L2 in the making of character faces/looks. The games with great customozation didn't start coming out until a few years after either of these games were created. 1 thing I did have to admit, WoW does have alot of armour choices, which would be nice, expecially in the upper levels where there is basically 1-2 choices per gear level to choose form and they all look the same.

Don't worry, after you get out and start exploring the world, you will find a HUGE variety of mobs, and depending on where you decide to go you might be killing undead/demons, or if you choose you might want to go kill angels. There are lands of Dinosaurs, and piles of lands with mobs you can't even describe because they look so strange. The looks of the lands vary greatly as well. Don't worry, you won't be in a nice pasture killing foxes for long.

The game itself, a majority of people aren't into this sort of game, so don't feel to bad if its not for you. Also unless you change the defaults, the game is a point and click to move not a WASD game, which some people don't like. Another thing that sets it apart from the rest is it isn't faction based (Which I tend to hate). You can kill anyone pretty much anywhere if they are ticking you off. You might end up PK'ing someone (Which the devs screwed up in the last patch) but that option is there when you have people KS'ing your mobs, just to tick you off or to steal your quest items, unlike every faction game I have played, where if they have a faster attack speed and can get last hit, they can toy with you for days if they wanted to.
LMFAO!

Shaiya..... one of the most pay to win games out there, omg i remember when a high level in shaiya party a low level and start killing all the dam mobs in low areas and you cant do a **** about it. And you failed, cause the first levels you must do the line quest to get to 41 and then you can really start playing as you want (raid bosses, parties, solo)

Sincerely, a long time player of Shaiya.

Oh wait, you were trolling right?
I have seen some WoW screen, and I intended to write "A BIT cartoonish" -- anyway, bright colours and almost non-existant proportions is not what I call "realistic graphic", lol

L2 design was based on "high" fantasy... so the level of realism is lower than if you were to look at some of the more gritty games out there. I personally like the theme. And has been noted, the game stands up well for one that has an 8+ yr old graphics engine (UR2). Would I like for them to update the graphics, **** straight, but I'm not disapointed in what they've been able to make the UR2 engine do.

Now WoW, I can't stand. Welcome to the world of looney toons.

Inch.
Just to rectify something -- I like L2 graphic. I just point out that it has its years on its back, and when you take a close look at faces and things you notice that it's a bit roughly made -- but I generally don't care about that.

Oh, you probably mean the Dark Elf females who defy the laws of gravity? LOL! Bah, I'm a female and I love the way they look :) As a matter of fact, I'm surprised there are so many guys who pick a male toon just to match the gender and assume that a female must be playing a female toon.
he probably plays on a gameboy type pc thats powered by a car battery and he has an IQ of 80. (u died to a wolf. u is teh smartist brow ever)

and is now not complaying or giving feedback, no, he is purely hardcore QQing.

i am glad that wolf killed u and hopefully has now made u go back to ur other awesome games. and i will also thank that pker who supposedly killed ur teammate and made ur game less fun.

best reply ever hahahaha

Also, remember that you will have to watch this character, mostly from the back, for a few years of playing lol.

I think you want to see this game way to much to your own mind/hand. If you dont like it, leave it, and go back to WoW or COH.

Those games (WoW, CoH) are childish for me. So far i know L2 is the only which have an good pvp system.
I don't even KNOW how you can think to compare L2 to WoW. WoW looks like some anime gone wrong.

Obviously you knew the game is old and you have to know this is a Korean based game as well. What we get here is not the same as Korean servers. If you liked GW and WoW so bad then stick to it. I stuck to L2 because every game I've tried is just a fail for me. Aion sucked and so did Rift. Going to try Tera because that at least is the stolen code that was L3.

And whining about how you control your toon is so over. Learn how to set it up and get used to clicking and actually doing something. You can actually play this game with one hand a lot of times over Wow and it's ******ed mouse and keyboard movement needs.

Sincerely,
A Long Time Gamer
Dude, with the risk to violate the forum rules i think you are a total *********.... Killed by a wolf at lvl 5? Did u even try to read the ingame guide with "?" about incoming qust? did u even cared to walk trought the tutorial. Its vital. It learns you how to use soulshots and give you the most basic gear to survive. The game till lvl 40 its all about quests. Basicly the game is played by itself till you hit lvl 40. This is my first time playing lineage 2. ATM i got 68 lvl Dark Elf Abyss Walker. I didnt lostmyself even once. When i stucked the same way you stucked i pmed a guy and learned to use WASD when stuck and cant move. It worked.

michas was right. answering you is a waste of time

P.S.
CoH was terrible...

P.S.
Back in time i've heard that lineage 2 got the best graphic there is.
