I bet mentor asking money is one of the new peoples started lol imo who ever pay for mentor is stupid find an old guy pm and ask nice i'm sure you will find one and ignore the ******s asking money with the excuse you might leave them.

Well I don't think oit is right that some what payment for mentor, I can under stand why some do it, they got burned and don't want to get burned again. A few noobs screwed over theiur mentors and now everyone pay the price with mentors scared to mentor.

Another question, why do they charge that high of a price for mentor? Most people in need of a mentor don't have that kind of money ingame. Kinda of like the noobs on talking island trying to sell a guide for 5mil, like they think someone that just started the game has 5mil to spend even if they fell for the scam.
Really I don't get why they want so much in payment, they get a exp bonus(although very small in comparision) as well. It is kinda of a they ask to be paid for getting a 10% exp boost along with what ever else is inculded. Not sure why they think every mentee will screw them over, most of us are smart enough to realize if we mess with them it puts our name on a kos list. Lets see noob vs old time player and all their friends will not end well for the noob.
It's complicated. Lots of prospective mentees demand their mentor stay online 24/7. Lots of mentees take advantage of their mentor staying online 24/7, level to 84 then when the meaningful rewards for the mentor start kicking in they dump him, straddle him with a 7 day penalty on inviting new mentees and switch to being mentored by a friend, who ends up getting all the good rewards.
So many mentors treat the payment as insurance
Others charge because ... they can. Everything in this game has a price so the logic is they have something that is in relatively short supply on the new servers so ... they might as well make some money out of it.
Some ask for money because they need to craft/buy B weapons for their sub quest
And obviously some ask for money just to scam you.

Mentors get better rewards than you do.
Never pay to a mentor. Ofcourse if a lot of ppl on your server do, then they made it a practice and you might be forced to do so aswell.
low level rewards are really really meaningless. You get far too few coins. The decent rewards are for 80+ and the good rewards are the final two. And like I said before mentors take a risk, that they mentor some kid screaming in Aden and said kid ends up quitting that character at 52 and rerolling (mentor = no rewards + 7 day penalty) or mentoring somebody that dumps them at the end for a friend (mentor= few rewards + 7 day penalty)
