The Shining bow

Hello guys and gals,

Just a thought that popped into my head thinking about the new bows in the game which are *ugly* especially requim bow :P whatever happened to the beautiful shining bow lmfao.

Im not 100% on the story of this bow but was it not a hero weapon or smth that was then used in * * * * * * * servers?

I have been wondering about this bow for quite a while also, but have never been able to find good information on it even after spending a lot of time in Google. The Shining Bow as I know it has an odd history that dates back to the game's launch, and after a point, I just lost track of it.

I ran an L2 fansite at the game's launch and as a result developed some good relationships with the GMs and community manager at the time. I ended up experiencing a couple of perks on the test server that were at the time a little overboard, such as being supplied with A and S grade equipment when B grade was the top-tier available in the game at the time. Back then on the test server, the GMs didn't just hand everyone a bunch of equipment, and if I recall, they didn't even start you off at a high level. Obviously, testing new content this way is ridiculously hard, so it's no surprise that with recent test servers, the GMs are far more generous with level and equipment.

Anyway, at the time of the C1 or C2 test server, I was given a Tallum Blade (which was A grade like it is now), and also a Shining Bow... which was S grade. Here's a capture I took way back then when I had it:

Kind of looks like the Carnage Bow, doesn't it? Well, that's because it is, at least by skin. It seems that at some point, likely during C3 or C4, or whenever S-grade equipment finally became available in the game, NCsoft turned that S-grade Shining Bow into an A-grade Carnage Bow, and since then, I've never known what actually happened with the S-grade Shining Bow.

In searching through lots of L2 DBs, I've noticed Shining Bow listed there, but could never find out other information. I unfortunately don't have a screenshot showing that particular bow in the shot above as being the Shining Bow / S-grade. Not long after that period, I ended up suffering a hard drive crash and was lucky enough to recover even that shot.

From the L2DB that Duncan used to manage, the original S-grade bow is listed as such:

Interestingly, that's not the icon I saw when I had the original bow. It had the exact same icon as Carnage Bow. I really regret losing those screenshots =/

At any rate, all this ranting aside, I'd love to know if there is in fact still a Shining Bow in the game, and am even more curious to know what it looks like.

There are a couple of things in this shot that might make it appear that I was playing on a private server, but I assure you that it was the public test server (I've never played on a private server before). The GM at the time who equipped me didn't really understand what he was doing, hence the reason I have an A-grade sword, S-grade bow, C-grade armor, D-grade jewels and a D-grade shield...

... not to mention the fact that I am a Dark Avenger with an elemental heal specific to another class (I believe this was a bug in that Chronicle that ended up getting patched up). Also in the screenshot you can see the old-school Tallum Blade icon (I am not sure if that icon ended up being re-used for another sword or not).

If you're wondering why there is a crowd around me... you can imagine the sort of magnet effect you'll experience when you are carrying around a sword and bow that no one has ever seen before, while they are all wearing D or C-grade at most ;-)

Still kicking myself for not having a screenshot with me hovering over the freaking bow. I'd love to know if the stats were actually better than what the Carnage Bow became or if they were better :S

wow, what HUD is that? Certainly doesn't look like mine? Is there a setting to make all the complicated muckity muck windows more simplistic? I never did like the paperdoll inventory window and the extra buttons on the corner.

shining bow doesnt exist on retail and no it doesnt look like what u have on ur screenshot
shining bow has never been added to l2

Shining Bow has the same stats as a Draconic Bow but slower attack speed (however on most private servers this got patched so they had the exact same stats). I used to play private servers back in c4 days so don't really got screenshots anymore that I took myself (played retail from interlude so no more shining bows ^^).



Oh and I just lost my old forum account info and too lazy to reset so I remade it on my alt-acc.

Oh I totally forgot! They use the texture of the Shining Bow (as it appeared on C4 -> Interlude at least) in some shops (like in Goddard).

There is a plugin you can download for basically any chronicle (don't remember the exact name) which starts L2 locally in a small zone where you can summon any NPC, change yourself in any NPC/Character and equip any equipment you want. You can check even on GoD you'll find shining bow with the exact same texture.

I'll post again if I find the little plugin again, don't think it's illegal as it doesnt do anything but allow you to play around with spawning characters and NPCs locally (you can't kill or do anything else cuz that's all serverside).

Edit: Found it! But .. well since I guess this kinda falls under editing client I won't share the tool here, but hey you can just find it if you google good enough ;x

The Shiny bow was re-named as Infinity Thrower in C4/C5 and was the hero weapon untill H5. Now, after GoD, i don't have any idea what is the heroic bow called. You haven't seen it cos it wasn't updated with the game and at H5 still had the stats close to a Dyn Bow (699 p.atk if memoery serves me right). And it lookes exactly like at Deathspawner's screenshot, but with a a white heroic glow around it.

Are you sure that didn't start off as an auction house item? I started playing in C1 and there weren't any BCS in game at that time, although I did hear about them. Hell, people were just happy to get their hands on a staff of life or atuba weapon back then. And forget about overenchanting one. Not only did the supply and cost of the scrolls make it prohibitive, but the mass fear of OEing a mage weapon back then was even higher than it is now.

Well i have Open beta client and weapon textures are very diferent i remember a cristal skull staff on Open beta isntead of that book
they changed a lot of weapons textures i dont know why.

I think you still can. You just need a weapon from same tier. It's just they have adjusted the tiers along the years dropping out a few weapons, especially the Etc. ('Books' and suchs) from the exchange list on mammom.

I looked for a match to swap with the mammon and nothing presented can be changed to a Blue Crystal Skull.

Mammon won't look at etc. or Kamael weapons(need to reverse the Change Weapon first) However with the modified Crafting Brought with Glory Days many rare or non-existent items are now craftable... Blue Crystal Skull Ancient Reagent and Vajra Wand used to be obtainable from Mammon Trade(but there was no Drop/Craft information anywhere) so when Mammon stopped trading these they were unobtainable... till now.

I've got 1 small peeve about the new crafting... EVERYTHING uses 10 key Mats... I'm just old school I guess, I think low B craft should use less key Mats than S craft. :P

However, I don't think you will find recipe/parts dropping... you can only buy them from Recipe Merchant NPC.
