I believe the 5 day is to prevent people from quickly accepting a new mentee and collecting coins too fast. Is it dumb? Completely. The whole mentor/mentee system is completely bass ackwards as far as intent vs execution.

Just be glad there is this system that benefit both sides. Personally, I prefer NCSoft to do away with the system to weed out the serious legit players from the ones that want instant gradification. Playing this game is a privilege, not a right.
A Mentee graduates from the mentoring contract when the character reaches level 86. At that time, the contract is concluded. The recent Mentee is eligible to create a Mentoring contract five days after Awakening.

Actually you don't get much for coins until they hit their 80's. Really the penalty system isn't fair. The coins you need quite a few to do a 60 or 150 element stones. It'd not like you can sell the coins or anything from the mentor shop
I think it's a bit stupid the 5 day, maybe 2 days if any penalty. The guy who mentored me as it turns out had each of his mentee graduate 4-5 days from each other so he has had no new mentees for 14 days.
The Mentors are charging 100kk~200kk for their services, u get coins to buy your things, and money, this isn't enough?
Not all mentors charge people. If they charge, they are most likely scammers. I want to help new players to get to 85+ to play the real L2 content; and show them that there are actually nice and friendly player that can 'mentor' or party them once awakened. However, I can't because I keep getting penalties. Another one of my mentee is graduating soon (85 now), when I just have one graduated. The third one is getting close to graduating as well, 2ish more levels to go... GF lol
The problem I've had with taking in randoms is they'll play for a day or two and then stop logging in for a few days. I sent a mail asking them whats going on and they tell me they made an alt >.< IF I get a response. At that point I have to kick them wait 7 days and try to get someone else. I've restricted it to my friends and clannies only because of that crap. If you pay someone for mentoring don't be stupid that's risky. You're giving them potentially all you got in adena in exchange for their word. Don't come crying to the forums that so and so scammed you for x amount and now you want NC to do something. NC isn't going to do anything they've warned you.
Not sure if the 5 day penalty is both ways, but either way the Mentor is being SCREWED OVER.
It is not , i mentored my self with another toon of mine and the mentee upon graduation could instantly invite a mentee of his own.

Not really , it is a way to commit the players you take in as mentees and think twice about leaving for no reason or to share coins with a friend when they hit 84 as some do , etc & so on.
