While I am sure we all enjoy the 30 minutes of good experience point grinding in Seed of Annihilation, there is one thing I think all of us would really like to annihilate:
Maguen.
We cannot kill him, which is a shame. But, there is a way to significantly increase your chances in smacking him to get back your bio-energies.
NOTE: This is for people having problems with Maguen.
It's not for people who are uber-pro. But, if you're going to troll, be my guest.
1. Ok so you see the alert that Maguen is about to appear. What do you do?
YOU CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE MADE A MAGUEN MACRO!
Which looks like this:
/target Maguen
/attack
Name the Macro and put it on one of your 4 bars. Anywhere is fine. Don't try to hit Maguen with your sword over his body and spam your mouse button!
2. Priority: Keep yourself alive first. If you're getting smacked by Failed Creations don't try to handle Maguen until whatever is smacking you or spewing crap at you is gone.
3. Ok so Maguen comes out. You see him run towards you. If you try to move too close to him before he stops, he will sometimes put a little extra distance between you and him before he gets ready to jump. Wait until he stops.
4. The moment he stops, get as close as you can to him. You don't need to be right on top of him, but very close.
5. As he jumps in the air to steal from you, start spamming your Maguen Macro. Guaranteed, the closer you are to him, the higher chance you have of smacking him, surprising him and getting your bio-energies back.
MY MACRO WON'T WORK OR I CAN'T TARGET MAGUEN WHY?!?!?!?!
This has to do with how far you are from him. I've tested this many times (over 100!) and have found that proximity makes all the difference in your ability to smack Maguen. Even a step too far away can make it so you cannot hit him. (Or you hit him and get nothing.)
Why is this happening. I surmise (key word there for you trolls) the reason for this has to do with how the game computes distance before you are allowed to attack something. If you are doing a simple attack macro, which is what you should be using, you will notice that if you are not close enough to that tiny target, namely Maguen, you will miss a chance to hit him. Or, you will just barely knick him on the rear. That is why if you are as close as possible without being on top of him, you will greatly increase your chances of getting more bio-energies back.
The goal of course in this 30 minutes is to get over 1600 - which nets you 160 Tissue Energy Crystals.
DISCLAIMER: This method will NOT guarantee you get over 1600. BUT IT WILL HELP A LOT. The myriad of players play to their best ability. Some will do better than others. That's just the way it is.

I had thought distance is a factor, but not enough test to conclude it.
Every time I was in SoA my curse words just fly out like crazy, as I had setup and press like mad on the macro, but Maguen still steals my points/energy.
I get 200 tissue energy crystals most of times, sometimes 240, depending on how successfully I farm Maguen. :)
But it seems to me there are times when the macro simply doesn't work, no matter how close I'm standing and how fast I'm spamming it. I guess it has something to do with network latency.
Also, sometimes I get swarmed by a few Maguens at once; in these cases it's very hard to hit each of them in time.
Yes, sometimes you cannot hit him, no matter what. Even if there are no mobs near which might cancel your target etc. It just does not work. And other times, you get two Maguen spawning at the same time and they jump/steal at the same time, then you probably will hit only one of them because the target macro will pick up only one.
Also don't forget the energy buff, that is very important for a good score, too :)
Should be able to get 3k+ easily as a DD class which can AOE well if you get lucky with Maguen and energies, as a non-DD class 2.5k or so should be doable.
Can someone explain why do you even care about maguen? Aren't the items you get worthless? Or can you do something useful with them? I have found one NPC that offers some ridiculously useless recipes for them, maybe they are worth something if sold to npc shop?
if you do well, and you hit every maguen, and return every received energy.
you can break the 3000 mark.
me, my personal best is only around 2300.
but i know some who have reached beyond 3000.
at 2000 you get 200.
10 for under 800.
which can happen if you have a bad run... or you're new and cautious at it.
or if there is heavy server lag which leads to either of the previous.
proximity matters?
i will have to pay attention next time.
meanwhile i don't usually get them all because i hold next target, which is easily thwarted by those sneaky Maguen.
The rewards are as follows:
1 to 800 residues = 10 tissue
801 to 1600 = 60 tissue
1601 to 2000 = 160 tissue
2001 to 2400 = 200 tissue
next is 240 (that's what I normally get, from 160 to 240)
and the maximum reward is 400 tissues.
A couple of tips:
if you are interested in collecting the quest items in the safest way and don't care much about xp, just stay near the npc (Tie) and use every opportunity to give him the "bonus energy" (you score from 40 to 80 items each time); also don't miss any chance to rob Maguen (the more he steals the more he returns, just hit him in time).
If you want to maximize xp, just run in circles pulling trains of mobs and AoE them. Ignore Maguen and bonus energy both, as you farm more than enough items anyway.
Powerplayers normally get 3000-4000 residues in average, which results in scoring 400 tissues each time.

although it has been speculated that the mob level raises with you, so it is always white. which would be kind of cool if xp also increased.

That's pretty good if you're getting 200-240. Awesome. And yes, there is the factor of network latency, but I suppose I did not explicitly make any remarks because I took it as a given.
And yes, there are the times where NCSoft's code conspires against you and lets Maguen(s) has his way with you.
When Maguen message appear need to fast kill mobs who attack you or at least run out of mobs. Maguen can't be targeted before he steal your items. After he steal you have 2-3 sec to hit him. I advice macro:
/target maguen
When he steal items just press it several times - it will cause target and attack maguen with melee atack (ok for mages) so in 99% of cases you will get x1.5 items back. 1% - if you get attack from mob who remove your target.
