Do not let the post count fool you. I have been around since April 2004. That being said, I would like to address something I saw last night and petitioned as well.
On Talking Island, where new and sometimes young players start their journey into L2, there stands an Orc. Nothing odd about that now other than the name this Orc chose. His name is "FistingUrMomma" in RisingPhoenix clan. Now I know in today's world some folks may think that is a cool name, but in my world it gave me an image in my mind that made me want to get my hands on this kid and beat some manners into him/her.
My hope in posting this is that the GMs will offer this kid a chance to change his/her name to something less offensive for free.
Before any of the ******s come here and "If you don't like it quit then", I should not have to put up with foul names such as that. If the person with the name reads this post, you should be ashamed of yourself, but I'm sure you aren't, so lets see what the GMs have to say about it.

Your mind conjured up whatever vision your mind wanted. If fist are dirty in your mind take the time to wash them. Only you give power to words and their definitions. Do you know that in my community chewing gum is so offensive people are put to death when caught doing so. If I called your mother a "Mother of a GUM CHEWING brat" when she came to visit my town all the kids would point and laugh.
In fact I find your name offensive, brings to mind politicians scurrying off to brothel and doing all sorts of undisclosed... "discreetly".

I know of one person that had an innapropriote name in french and it was reported and they had to change it.

If you report it they will get a nasty communication from a GM and they will have it removed. Personal Experience.

Isn't this name offensive as well? Or would you have a laugh and ignore it just because you don't feel offended by it?

People keep thinking that kidz are all innocent. On the tv you can see boobs, etc at any hour. They know a lot, thru internet, fb, etc. And people making drama cuz kids can see a name like "fisting blabla". I think is just stupid to make a big complaint. There are worse things on the internet, even on the tv.

Otherwise by extending your rationale, albeit somewhat to the extreme, we should give paedophiles a list of underage kids in their area because after all "they will have a sexual realtionship at some time in their life."

I know of all sorts of horrendous things from my real work, but that doesn't mean they are appropriate or that I want to see them in a game I play in my spare time.

I had a title that got reported and I had to change it. It wasn't even extremely bad,but someone reported it and I couldn't figure out why my title disappeared. So I put it back up and then all of a sudden I get a warning that if I use it again I could be banned. Well gee next time TELL me so I don't use it again. Sometimes clannies change your title to be silly ya know?

As far as my name goes, it does not suggest a sexual act on yours or anyone else's Mother. There has to be a line drawn somewhere or things go from bad to worse. Reguardless, let it be known that I myself will report names that are over the top.

The main spooky thing about that guy was not only that he didn't realize WHY his name was changed, but he also thought of that particular act as a "normal part of life." It was scary. Maybe because it's so common for that term to be used when describing winning at PvP that some people forget how horrible that act REALLY is. Truly absurd.
THAT was what spooked me more than his name. Thread was properly locked away by GMs though, thankfully enough.

Actually the day people mind their own business is the day when everything starts deteriorating. There will always be people who are offensive/illegal/indecent/etc and it's the community's duty to keep these things in check and keep up certain standards.
As for how keeping stardards goes around nicknames I dont know, I can only hope it goes better than in other areas of the game :p
I'm well aware of the flames I'm going to get for this but takes these things into consideration : 1. Maybe he was going for something else in which case wouldn't have fit lol 2. Maybe the toon will be a tyrant or something and the person didn't feel the name was THAT bad. Anyways, just a thought I could care less really seeing is how I've seen worse

there is usually something that is a red flag...
i knew someone who was named TittieMilk, and someone who used Rapeing arrow... those were changed.
i'm sure a lot of other names get changed also.
my character Spunkfest was not changed, but i deleted her due to server mergers. she was never intended as a main.

To everyone saying "leave it alone, mind your own business": keep in mind that people are indeed trying to do that, play and have some fun with the game. If they cannot, it is precisely because they are feeling offended or vexed by something someone else is doing. How would YOU react if you saw a nickname or title that YOU considered offensive?

I HAVE seen names that offend me, (not going to give examples) and I CHOOSE to ignore them. It's not that difficult. I simply shake my head in disgust and life goes on, it's hardly the end of the world lol... If the GMs feel it is offensive they will probably do something about it.

I never said it was the end of the world, neither did the OP. Please don't twist my argument. I'm supporting OP's claim that it is right to report nicknames if someone considers them offensive - against the opinion, expressed by some other people here, that everyone should just mind his own business and leave it alone.
One can of course deal with the embarassement as one sees fit. Some may decide to just shake the head in disgust, but some may think it appropriate to report the nick. And these have imho a right to do so.

But in all seriousness, I don't see why people get so offended over names or words and such in video games. Given the world we live in, and considering this is the internet, you gotta enchant your backbone to +20 and ride the roller coaster. If someone's harrassing you, that's different, and you can always ignore them. But if some little kid wants to make obscene names and walk around thinking it's funny, I couldn't care less, to each their own. There are always some good names for a laugh running around too, they just require a sense of humor. Something that many people lack despite being online.
I mean, I have a bishop that's named DrinkBleach, I find it humorous and rather contradicting. Hell, I could even start telling people that drinking bleach is the equivalent of my heals, therefore if you drink bleach your life bar gets restored.

The fact that I have to explain why this fits the thread so well is of some concern. The bottom line is the definition of words used and the perception of those reading the words. Since you obviously don’t get this I will break it down for you.
Therapist, depending on how you look at it has two very opposite meanings. This can mean “Therapist” a person trained in the practice of occupational therapy in the effort to help make people better. This nickname can also be seen by those that wish to be negative “The Rap*st”, which is a sex offender and is not seen in the eyes of society as someone helping to make people better.
So, should therapist be banned because you select a different definition of my nickname in your mind?

You absolutely have the right to be offended. Just as others have the right to be offensive. That name was definitively in poor taste but I just ignore people like that. I find it offensive when people find something offensive and then demand that it be changed so as not to offend them anymore.

Cona is Portuguese vernacular for ******. The most accurate English translation would be ****. I don't understand why women get so upset over the "C" word.
