Players are sick of this uncontested wave after wave of bots. Ncsoft has it entirely within their power to stop them but chooses not to, for there is an obvious potential financial incentive to do so.
I propose a compromise. Introduce a change to account creation. It's fairly simple. All you have to do is charge 10-20 dollars to make a new account, and that account is accredited 10-20 dollars worth of nccoin. The game is still technically free to play forever, but there is a very slight wall to stop every single freeloader on the planet from making a million accounts during the next event. All current accounts will remain unaffected.
Nope, that would lower the stream of new people joining alot, ncsoft would never do that.
The only decent idea I've ever read about ***** up bots would be a capcha to enter after a certain amout of time farming mobs but this could have been done for years, truth is, they don't give a **** about bots, they only ban some of the most obvious

I'd really love to see captchas popping up in middle of AoE grinding in SoA or just a random not really safe Teredor run. It would totally fit to lags, sslag and NPC delay.
Also I'm not very talented when it comes to captchas. Probably I've failed more of those captcha pictures than some bots did. (And here I mean those insane ones, seen some with equations and weird symbols).

If by decent you mean one of the worst ideas, then yeah, I agree with you.
We are debating removing BOTS? What year is this, when did this game launch, how much money has been given to this company? If they wanted the bots gone they would be gone. It's like when people stay in a bad marriage for years talking about they just fell down the stairs. Once I got my second black eye there was no debate about who gets the china or dog... I left everything.
If they want the population purged of third party assisted players we would already be back down to 2 servers.
Statistics high population numbers on several servers for long periods help create positive charts and reports for future board meetings

of course, you might use some 3rd party software, so you think how will affect that captcha. right? like 80% of players... dont come with other **** flame now, you know you're using and most of players do... too bad you posted here, to complain about something which might help to get rid of "afk players who fight"...

This won't do anything as it didn't stop bots/farmers when the game first came at $50(later steadily reducing in price to around $20 if you actually found a copy in stores and cheaper online). The people who make all these accounts are not players, they're companies that use this game to generate a product and/or service to sell. Only reason the bots went down was because the game's player population went down(whether it being due to bots/farmers or game changes is another issue). Now that it's up again, demand has gone up for these companies supply. Ironically now they are causing a major service problem as even those players who buy their products cannot use them. Basically rmt companies have screwed themselves now too.
One controversial method NCSoft could do would be to offer similar services. Pay2Win is a dirty word in the FreeToPlay market. However with the revenue going to NCSoft we know at least a portion of that revenue would be going towards new content. Free players still actually matter as they are essentially content as well since generally only a small percentage of the playerbase will actually buy cash shop items with any great frequency. The free players give the cash players someone to actually play the game with, so they're still very important.
The big question still remains as to why someone would pay money to NOT play a large portion of your game. And that's a topic I really do not want to get into but is extremely relevant to this whole situation.
