Sound Files

Hi there, its me again =D

with yet another question about Lineage II

This one is more of a technical question, see, I really love the music in this game, and I wanna add it to my MP3 player, but I dunno how to extract it.

Anyone knows a way to extract/decode/convert the files in the music folder to a readable one? I know for World of Warcraft you could extract the music files with an MPQ editor, but that doesn't work here.

Anyone has any ideas? because I opened the music folder, found the files, but they're in a strange format that I can't reproduce with anything.
Rip it from youtube. otherwise not possible.

the people who put it on youtube had to get it from somewhere.

The files are there in the game, there should be a way to open them...... =/
The files are in .OGG format, at most all you need is a plugin to play them on your PC and any conversion program should be able to convert OGG to MP3

Wow, according to who? OGG files are the most easy to transform into MP3.
also, someone know the names of the two songs that play in the character creation screen?

Pretty please?

Fyi, my super duper transform program couldn't read the OGG files. :(
Speaking of L2 sound, I've turned it off since 2005... :D
Free software

kmplayer you can play with it.

[edited for god of sake] ;)
Please keep in mind that ripping and downloading music off the internet is often a copyright violation and can result in legal action. The Lineage II Original Soundtrack is no longer freeware. It is for sale on iTunes, though. Through iTunes, you can easily and legally acquire the music and listen to it out-of-game.

Would it be considered illegal to just grab the OGG files from the install folder and toss them on an MP3 player? After all, the files are available in such a way that they can easily be listened to through a media player on a PC or converted into another format.

I'd be against someone taking those files and spreading them of course, but it seems that if you install the game and the files are right there, copying them to your MP3 player doesn't do much harm. I will say that all the OGG files I checked so far are of a very low quality though (128Kbit/s) and converting them to MP3 is going to degrade the quality even more. The official soundtrack looks to be the best way to get most of the music at a higher quality (it's a pity the official CD is no longer being sold).

Here's the iTunes link for anyone interested:

Edit: There actually seems to be more than one:

Edit the Sequel: Err, this was meant to be an edit not a quote *smacks head*
Didn't all the lineage songs used to be the old website? I downloaded them back then... maybe i'll see if i can find them.
It is possibile but you have to first convert the OGG files into playable ones as they are encrypted in a non-ogg format and cannot simply be played.

I do know how to do it, but because of Sace's post I will not give any instructions on how it is done. For those who do know how to do it, I encourage you to listen to some of the new ones as I already have several on my MP3 player that I listen to while jogging.

According to me, obviously. But I was wrong :P

They were on the old website until NCsoft made the soundtrack for sale instead of freeware, then they were removed and sold on iTunes.

I'm not a copyright expert, but that seems like it'd be okay, though in the gray area. Most importantly, as long as you don't try to redistribute the music in any way (like as music for a video), or try to sell it, or claim it as your own, you're okay. If uncertain, the google (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=music+copyright+laws) is there for you.
Any file encrypted is the property of NCSoft, since you need to patch those ogg files to play them whatever the play, I guess it's under a copyright law to decode and use them

26.01.2012 NC Soft and Sony Music released new soundtrack "Lineage 2 Goddess of Destruction" by Jamie Christopherson and Lineage2 Music Team. You can listen and buy it on NC Soft offical music store: http://www.24hz.com/#!/artist/384087/album/692681&listen
What format are the lineage 2 songs on itunes?

I liked the original version because they were in ogg vorbis which is FAR superior to the lossy mp3 format. With the sound chain I run I find Mp3s to be very distracting due to distortions inherent in a lossy format..

You don't need to patch Ogg files to play them... they work in ANY worthwhile media player. You might want to read up...

All music on iTunes is the same quality... AAC 256Kbit/s. That'd be far preferable to the 128Kbit/s Ogg that's included with the game. I'd still yearn for a lossless option though, or even for the actual CD to be made available for sale again (I never knew there was ever a CD for sale until now).

The AAC format is a bit better but like you I would prefer a CD.

For my cd rips I use FLAC.

I tried to open Ogg files from Music folder with :

VLC
Media Player Classic
Winamp

I tried to edit it with Audacity, to open it in Vegas. None of this tries worked.
So, explain me how they are non encoded and playable ?

I didn't say you need to patch to listen ogg files, I said that L2 files are encrypted

You need a little program that will decrypt the sound files so you can play them normally. As they are now you cannot listen to them. I have the program but it can be difficult to find as it is a privatley created thing and not generally available unless you know where to search. :)

So as I said, Sound files are crypted by NCSoft since you need to "patch" them whatever how
