I think it's not so much any particular country "winning", as it is a case of people a.) voting for the best compromise time for their clan/ally (so not necessarily the best time for their own country) and b.) people jumping onto the vote which was leading and anywhere CLOSE to the time they would prefer. There's no point voting for the perfect time for yourself, when there is a time one or two hours earlier/later than that which has already a couple hundred votes, and your perfect time has only 20 votes so far. That would just be a waste of a vote, when you could instead ensure that a somewhat decent time for yourself wins.
E.g. I live in GMT+1, and I voted for the time which won on Chronos, because it's an OK time for me (not perfect), and it was leading and BETTER for me than the pure US time alternative.

I would do some quick fing damage control and make a new server and allow whole account and maybe even clan transfers or screw bartz and allow it there since it is the last server with a time that does not bend over every NA player and stick it right in thier azzzz......
i had hoped that NCsoft would realize that these Polls were silly, and leave things as is. but i guess since most NCSoft employees don't play Lineage 2, it didn't occur to them that making a level 40 character on a new account to vote was easy.

This is pathetic. The forum is full of complaints and flames, yet every day I see one of the community manages posting yet another slap in the face.
Like many I was also hoping that someone would notice how much of a terrible idea this poll is. Now there's just a single North American server left out of five. And I highly doubt there will ever be transfers to it. I don't think this company deserves to be called NCwest any longer.

Naia and Chronos should not have even had the option to change server time since they have long been established as Euro and NA servers, respectively. Players on these two servers know exactly what time zone they signed up for by playing there. An open poll like this had too many loopholes; people could vote from an unlimited number of accounts or vote to change the time of a server they don't even play on, which is what Naia people did to Chronos for fun. It's one thing to give players a choice and try to appease the majority, but deciding something like this with a popular skewed vote is not always the right way to go about it.

I've read this so many times and I disagree. All servers once established should have not had their time changed. Europeans knew what they signed up for by joining those servers and so did everybody else. No one was FORCED to play a timezone they did not wish to play. Innova EU servers exist, Russian servers exist too.
There should be no reason for a Western company to betray NA players with this terrible poll, just when clans and players were beginning to settle in. If they were that desperate to please their EU playerbase they should have opened a new EU server. But they traded the rights to that when they partnered up with Innova, so that no longer fits in their business plan.

I actually do kind of agree with this. Rather than change any existing server times, another Euro server could have been added, possibly with option to transfer ONLY from the new servers.
it's going to be funny when you lose your job next quarter because all your paying players quit and you have 5 servers full of freeloaders that don't speak the same language as you. I'm still wondering why NCWest thought it was necessary to include both Naia and Chronos in this poll. These servers have been fixed on their siege times since the beginning of days (Chronos since 2005, launch of Bartz) and now the players have to change their bi-weekly schedule because of the incompetence of the NCWest staff..?

the vote shows absolutely nothing. you don't need a vote to figure out server activity hours, you just need to check number of people online - it is that simple. for example http://chronos.kaifas.lt clearly demonstrates that chronos peak activity is 6-8 PM GMT-6 which means that current server time setting is perfect.

The US players had a chance to vote for the times they wanted. If the player base on most of the servers is predominantly US then you should have won the vote easily.

I'm from Italy (europe, gmt +1) but honestly I think this is the worst thing NCW could have decided to do:
from the problem: EU players stucked in a only server (naia) and 4 servers with US timezone, to the opposite one...
The solution we all asked was simply a NEW eu time-based server, for split and get some fresh air for login without endless try.

Changing Chronos' timezone to GMT-2 is the dumbest thing you could do. It's "the" American server and you screw them all over now, good job!

Sorry but Chronos was just an amalgamation of the old servers when some were deleted.
It was the server where everyone who didnt make a conscious decision to move to a certain time zone server and lose many items ended up staying.
Obviously the majority of people on that server are now eastern european and have voted for what they want.

Dont be lazy, do not drink so much on Saturdays party to be ready to wake up at 09:30 and moving to siege...

PS : I would accept americans QQ and americans ''we are the center of the world so you all have to accept what we want''...if sieges were on weekdays and not weekend. Since its weekend i find it way more normal to have 1st siege at 11:00am than have 1st at midnight and Tw at 4:00am. I dd rather wake up early on a sunday than miss the chance to go outside for drinks on saturday (and sunday now :p ).

I geuss your assumption is all americans are on the east coast. The fact is many are on the west coast and for them the first seige is 10am. The vast majority of L2 players are adults. I would gladly forsake sleep time to participate in game events. I will not forsake my children and sunday during the day is THIER TIME not L2's. The vote system was flawed to put it polietly, or more realistically a pile of dung. First most players dont use the forum and where oblivous to what has happenned. I did not before GOD and i have been here since C3. The fact is clans who where euro (specifically Russian on chronos) did nothing but make lvl 20 toons repeatedly on new accounts to go vote. If NCWEST had half a brain they would check the IP's of the votes to vallidate what I am saying. How does this represent the server population?
A more fair system would have been to have in game vote using an npc only available to 76 plus toons. This would have require some logical thought though...

When I started in open beta there were no euro servers, and the majority of players around were Chinese (call them farmers if you wish, according to NCwest they were paying customers too).
I wish NCsoft would have done this kind of voting 7 years ago and respectively changed all server's time to Beijing time zone, now that'd be really hilarious! :)

For many years majority of playerbase was discriminated in any possible way, but finally a step in right direction. I hope, this is only first step. I think its time to open next vote about other decision, made to please voiceful xenophobic minority - Unicode characters in game chat. At least in private, clan and ally channels.
The reason any of this happened in the first place is because Europeans are too incompetent to run their own servers to the player's standards. If anyone owned anyone it's NCwest and how they betrayed NA players who have been around since the start.

Actually Brazil is GMT -3. Currently GMT -2 due to daylight savings time, but it's GMT -3. Which makes me lol because it wasn't even voted properly.
Apparently Chronos now is on like... Greenland time! Come on, Greenlanders, come and play L2... No wait, according to my windows settings, GMT -2 is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
NA players on Shilen are even more screwed than Chronos players are. Even though Chronos players have been there a lot longer, it's still quite disappointing to see this happen as soon as clans and players became established on the server. And as if EU clans didn't have the advantage with their numbers, now they have the time too.
If we don't hear some kind of good news soon, this won't be good for NCwest.

That map is actually a bit misleading. Because of the curvature of the earth, the north and south poles on a flat map are heavily exaggerated. Eastern Greenland is actually on gmt +1, with the majority of the island being on gmt -3. The sliver that is in -2 is basically uninhabited ice and rock. Only after daylight savings time kicks will there there will actually be people using gmt -2.
So basically ncsoft is planning to cater to the extremely wealthy penguin and polar bear portion of the mmo market!
The sad fact is that over the years this community has demonstrated that most don’t understand what GMT is or how it relates to their local times. Sace has had to add a link to her WEEKLY maintenance post to help everyone figure when the servers go down, even though it goes down the same time every week. This vote was predicated on the asinine assumption that those voting knew what they were actually voting on. That map is actually a bit misleading. Because of the curvature of the earth, the north and south poles on a flat map are heavily exaggerated. Eastern Greenland is actually on gmt +1, with the majority of the island being on gmt -3. The sliver that is in -2 is basically uninhabited ice and rock. Only after daylight savings time kicks will there there will actually be people using gmt -2.
So basically ncsoft is planning to cater to the extremely wealthy penguin and polar bear portion of the mmo market!
And it's environmental friendly too because the penguins being happy, they will also reproduce more and we will never have a penguin and polar bear extinction!

I disagree. I think they should have done their research before opening the 3 new servers, and made at least one of them a EU timezone instead of having the NA players scatter to all servers then switching the times like that.
Chronos/Naia players keep suggesting this same type of 'compromise'. But the truth is everyone is Awakened, etc on the new servers as well, clans are established and own castles, etc etc. So the new servers shouldn't face the bad end of a deal either.
We joined NA servers the same way you did and no one expected them to be switched like that.
We will be testing our time-change application for each server over the next week, and we expect to implement the time change on these servers on February 8, with that day's maintenance. I would soo transfer to Bartz GMT -5 and since it was my original server from long ago. but I don't want to do it because I get punished by losing a large bulk of my stuff. now if server transfers were 100% i would do it. otherwise i'm stuck on chronos with all the terrible Brazilian players Q,Q. its such a catch 22

A lot of people, as you all keep pointing out, aren't english speakers and had no idea this was going on. The voting requirements for this was a complete farce, with the first thousand votes being cast almost instantly as select clans botted up and voted with a ton of level 20s. It wasn't real players voting here by any stretch of the word. At the bareminimum, it should have been restricted to level 85s or 75s. Not level 20s which can be botted up in 20 minutes. Certainly there were in game reminders for this but need I remind you that people haven't been able to actually log in for almost a month now?
Ncsoft saw how many new players were coming from third world countries and someone up on the top said "**** it, let's cater specifically to these people and rake in the money". But then someone else spoke up and said "oh man nobody but those people will like that, we would be crucified". So then guy number 1 says "WE WONT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS, WE WILL PRETEND THERE IS A VOTE AND DEMOCRACY WILL WIN HAHAHA". Fine...if the "vocal minority" or the Euro majority or what ever it is got their way in the vote....yippee for them. Now if they would just stop botting up the 1 to 40 toons so the server lag goes down we can move on to not caring in peace. After all there are only three real choices to get to end game content, bot, buy or grind. For those who chose not to cheat or empty their wallet on pixels the grind goes better when the lag is lower. It has been like that since the start: community managers and the crew come and go every few months, one team after another, yet they all have just one thing in common: extreme incompetence.
If anything can be done wrong they'll do it wrong, and they will discover even more ways to fail than an average mind would be capable of. I guess it's the main requirement to all NCsoft applicants: "must be alternatively gifted to apply". :)

I will start off with I am from the US (GMT -6). I don't disagree with Europeans voicing their frustrations about server times with the exception that, which so many have pointed out already, you guys knew what the server times were when you signed up.
Innova was handed the Euro rights or what not and many people did not agree with that and CHOSE to still play on what was declared as going to be NA servers. That in my opinion should have been the final argument.
Now if NCW wanted to make things more comfortable for their Euro fanbase why not announce ahead of time before you open a server that the server time will be voted on (****** voting system) later and could possibly change. Also come on lvl 20 chars seriously? Thats like in real life politics allowing people who have children to get an extra vote for each one they have. I'm just saying there were better ways to do it and avoid the exploitativeness of it.
Now we are stuck with Bartz as the newest and sole remaining server that runs on US time. Everybody keeps mentioning sieges like that was the only thing the poll affected. If it was I wouldn't give a ****. Getting up at 10 am on a Sunday for a siege is not a big deal. Now missing the majority of every server side event that happens on weekdays because I have to work. That blows.

grunting aside, here's what happened in reality:
1) due to so called "partnership" between ncwest and innova, ncwest was disallowed to create servers with euro time for obvious reasons. apparently there was a loophole allowing ncwest to change time for existing servers.
2) ncwest bosses ordered to adjust servers to make them more attractive for the europeans to increase their player base. the decision was made to change server time to the time zone in between the US and europe which provides relatively comfortable time for server events for both continents (no deep night hours).
3) ncwest created fake vote with predefined results as an excuse.
you can QQ your eyes off, but this was purely financial decision, and it is going to happen. just face it.
I do agree that Naia and Chronos should have been left alone, but I do applause NCW for changing Magmeld & Shilen times. Democracy is a must if you want to make people happy.
Also poll just proved again that Lineage 2 was never a popular game in NA, despite all the love from NCsoft. You may think that I'm just trolling saying that, but really, NCsoft opened servers in USA first, chose NA continent over Europe, still you fjuckers preferred WoW/console games, no wonder NCsoft shifted it's attention to Europe and later, as this poll proves, to SA market. I think this was about time! I have been playing since Bartz was the only server back at the start and noone of the euro players had a decent chance to move all their stuff to another server.

MUCH superior to 8PM CST IMHO as it will get in the way of Sat evening/night events a lot less.
Early Sunday siege wil be at 12noon CST

Does anyone at ncsoft think things through? Chronus has easily 8 - 10k live players and 20% vote? That is a good reflection? Even from the votes, Ncsoft is just telling 25% of the voters who want the time stay the same go to hell we don't care about you.
Why don't Ncsoft base the votes on weighted system, for every year your account was active and paid you get 1 point, if your a free account you get 1 vote, if your account was made in the last month you cant vote.
So open beta player gets 1 vote for having free account and 8 votes for 8 years of playing.
At least that would be a more fair way of voting. If you look at how the US elects a president it is the same way.
Montana gets 2 votes but NJ gets 13 votes cause they have more population.

Ok! Great Job! Now offer free transfers from the above servers to servers with NA time zone. It seems the only reasonable thing left to do since you're changing the server that I play on (Shilen). On the plus side, there doesn't seem like this will affect many people negatively so the server population shouldn't shift much, you know, by the way your poll indicates. So let the ones that want to transfer from GMT (0) time zone to a server with a NA time zone like Shilen used to be. I'll trade you a 5 hour 50% xp rune for the transfer ability. You've accepted my vote on the forums, now let me vote with my transfer due to NCSoft's actions.
P.S. Do we get a refund for the $ spent on NC Coins since I only spent $ to play on a server with the time that is comfortable for me to play. Don't forget about my personal time spent to create and cultivate the account as I have done.

I think you're missing some of the main points here. The time change may not affect too many NA/SA players now, but when spring and summer roll around do you really expect people to sit at the computer at 2pm or 5pm to play a video game on a saturday? Server population has always dipped during the summertime when school is out and the weather is nice, except when sieges were later at night most people would show up, I highly doubt that will happen now.
And some of us are in college, or work tedious jobs through the week. I usually don't wake up until noon on the weekend, having classes from 7a to 5p and then working afterwards wears you out.

Well, 2k+ votes per server seems alright, judging by the number of boxed characters and bot parties. I dont know how many votes are fake and how many are votes real but we can assume that the majority of players from that minority are euro players.
I like the fact that NCsoft gave us a chance to chance servers timezones, these servers arent what used to be some time ago. What I dont like is what is gonna happen to the NA players. For the majority of them is still alright to play during the day but for other that cant, they gave them no choice to transfer to another server with NA timezones. They gave us free transfer to Magmeld but thats the same timezone, better to give them free transfers to a server like Barts or make another server with NA timezones and let players to move there, since they are the minority here... or anything than this.
About GMT-2, thats what the majority voted. For the majority of euro players, sieges gonna happen at 19:00 and 23:00 (translation: 7pm and 11pm). For others, like greeks, since they have lots of votes, sieges gonna be at 20:00 and 24:00 (8pm and 12pm). This is why the gmt-2 timezone.
Seriously changing Chronos time is not best idea ever .. but on other hand I read on that forum so many QQ before with conclusion "Me and mine friends leaving game!"(*) so possibly Chronos is not same server as it used to be...

it's not as easy as that because lots of people are playing/voting with family or at work during lunch. in my case we were voting with same IP for 5 peoples (6 accounts in total). we are playing since 2005 (time with no euro server), does my votes count less cause we vote from same IP ? Best would have been 70+ for vote.
even if it was euro bots voting, they were able to change IP between each vote if they wanted (70% of euros don't have fixed IP). gmt-2 is BEST for our clan as we have people from gmt-6 to gm+10 but mainly gmt-4/gmt+2.

NCSoft announces the time zones as "GMT+something" or "GMT-somthing". This is wrong. No modern time zone is based on GMT since over 30 years. They are all based on UTC nowadays. NCSoft, stop using obsolete definitions from two generations ago.
There is no reason for the server to be in any specific time zone; they just need a time offset from UTC. UTC+00:31:28 (my current local mean time) for a server? Why not.
The game was created in a country of a geographically small area with just one time zone and no daylight saving times. As a consequence (and because time zone handling is hard, and we all know how well NCSoft programmers manage to solve hard problems) the original programmers never cared about making it work with multiple time zones, multiple different rules for daylight saving time switches (or lack thereof) areas properly.
Consequently, NCSoft West can't set the sieges to start at some time (or even let the players decide which hour on Sunday or Saturday they'd like to siege a castle at!) while at the same time changing the time of the manor reset, quest reset, CH sieges, Olympiad and so on independently from that. The code base of the server just isn't capable of such.

We all know that's not fair for US Time players but don't misstarget, there are more Euro players on Chronos than US players since the merge off all NA Server. The best should have been to give FREE ACCOUNT TRANSFER to another serveur (GMT-2) as said before. the fu...ng euros as you called us keeps the server alive since the merge and if we weren't there, may be the whole NA would have been sold to Innova too ....

The servers are based in NA and are suppose to be first and foremost for NA players. They sold off the rights for euro to Innova. The NA player base did not do that to you NCWEST did.

Sieges with GMT-5 were till now for US/EU players following:
1st siege = 4 PM/23:00
2nd siege = 8 PM/03:00
The new time schedule will be:
1st siege = 1 PM/19:00
2nd siege = 5 PM/23:00
I geuss your assumption is all americans are on the east coast. The fact is many are on the west coast and for them the first seige is 10am. The vast majority of L2 players are adults. I would gladly forsake sleep time to participate in game events. I will not forsake my children and sunday during the day is THIER TIME not L2's. 3) The vote
The vote system was flawed to put it polietly, or more realistically a pile of dung. First most players dont use the forum and where oblivous to what has happenned. I did not before GOD and i have been here since C3. The fact is clans who where euro (specifically Russian on chronos) did nothing but make lvl 20 toons repeatedly on new accounts to go vote. If NCWEST had half a brain they would check the IP's of the votes to vallidate what I am saying. How does this represent the server population?
A more fair system would have been to have in game vote using an npc only available to 76 plus toons. This would have require some logical thought though...

Actually daylight savings should NOT be counting as timezones. There are 3 timezones. UTC -2 (Which is just at the Atlantic Ocean, which is ALL of those places you called are, indeed, islands;). UTC -3 which is the majority of the country, and UTC -4 which is a small part on the Northwestern side of the country.
You should not count daylight savings time as timezones, as daylight savings are determined by each country, not by the Earth's shape. The fact that some Brazilian states don't go on daylight savings has nothing to do with timezones. In fact, it seems this year one of the states that never went on daylight savings decided to do so.
But this is nitpicking for no good reason. If the majority of the country is on UTC -3 (GMT, UTC, really, nitpicking...), you'd expect people to vote GMT -3, not GMT -2.

No ProPVE had no dog in that fight. We killed as many IS and Nova as we did DW and FS. We where there out of boredom looking for PVP. He also neglected to mention they had FS, and Novavita and CL helping them defend....

Was quite humorous when I was on the wall and I would target a healer and nukers would run into range of the archers on the wall even though I couldn't attack the healer.

It may not have been WO, I only remember the tag was similar and the CL was in that party. I didn't really care because I was just farming fame, some tank tried to kill me so I hid(which crit so I had it for 2min) so I figured I might as well just run around while I have it. Was pretty lulzy watching 7 people run around in circles trying to aoe me out.
I could care less about bots, but you're right, programs that auto target, hold target, let you see daggers in hide ruin this game and characters that rely on those skills. If they would just get rid of those, I could give 2 ***** less about bot groups tbh.

i leave in France and voted for GMT-2 as it was the best fit for our clan, no hoax, just people voting because they care about it.
for me siege will be 19-21 and 23-1 (as first siege was before) so i will go only to 23-1 but i will be able to do TW at 23-1 not 3-5 AM as i used to do.

what they should have done is this set up 2 american servers 2 euro servers 1 br server 1 ru server. give everyone free transfer to the server of their choice. moniter the servers for a month or so then maybe merge some or create more if needed... sounds easy enough except for the work needed to put into it and the brains needed to think of it lol
they spammed a lot the go to vote for hours changes on server, they explained (at least for people for understand english) what was going to be affected ....
At least they should have restricted to 70+ people.
The best would have been zone server and free account tranfer to everyone, even with a 24 hours down to make it work.

NC could change the contract with Minova, offer minova to buy the English language servers. So NC will provide all English versions of the game in the EU. Or just in these contries from EU, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxumburg, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Germany. All others will stay at Minova. People outside those countries that allready got an English language account can stay.

1. Create a new server with timezone = GMT-5 or GMT-6 (whichever Chronos was before).
2. On all player accounts, auto-create level 1 characters, with the same name/race/gender/class, for each character on Chronos (yes, all however-many thousands of them) on the new server.
3. Permanently enable free one-way transfers from Chronos to the new server.
4. Apologize to your players and promise never to bend them over like this again.

the vote shows absolutely nothing. you don't need a vote to figure out server activity hours, you just need to check number of people online - it is that simple. for example http://chronos.kaifas.lt clearly demonstrates that chronos peak activity is 6-8 PM GMT-6 which means that current server time setting is perfect.

I love how Sace takes time to post about new hats for the ingame shop and juji has time to tell everyone on the forums to speak english (ironic given the new server times) but neither one will address the concerns of the NA players. They should just close this topic if they wanna ignore us.
