No server with NA time zone? :(

So, it looks like every server has now moved to euro times, even Chronos, the server that was the combined result of every North American time zone server. Effectively, it's now impossible for NA players to compete in olympiad or complete campaigns if they work regular hour jobs.

With an entire company running separate Euro servers, why not leave even *one* in a NA time zone? :(
Uh... is Bartz not EST..?
Dosent this just means that the majority on all servers are europeans?
It was a matter of NCSoft catering to its f2p customers and giving them the best experience possible.

A shift of 4 hours is not a big deal for US based players. Things will be 4 hours earlier for everyone. It's exactly in the middle between the main European timezone GMT +2 and the former US -6 GMT timezone. Given you understand how timezones work, you would understand this is best possible choice.

Shilen will be changing to 6 hours earlier which is horrible for me because the first sieges will be at 8am. This is a horrible time change for NA players, there will be a lot of people that won't be able to participate in Oly/TW/Sieges now due to being at work during those times.
Bartz might be EST but if your not on bartz and theres no xfers to bartz your basically screwd.

And how do you think it was for the majority of europeans that were playing here till now? Now the majority of player can enjoy tw/castle siedge/oly and the minority has to deal with it or ****:D

i think the thing thats gettin ppl un-nerved is that Eu players had/has a server all their own
Naia i believe its called.

And now it's the other way around na has a sv all their own because that's how many ppl from na play l2 and the majority of players are like the vote revealed, anyway on shielien is preatty obvious the majority of players or europeans

The differnce is that europeans played here knowing what they were getting into. Euros also have the choice of Innova.

I think whats so wrong with the whole thing is that the poll was too easily manipulated.

the only way this sounds to me is that all you freakin euro's have no freakin jobs because of your socailism utopia.....thats why your economy is in the ****ter

What our economy got to do with server times? Shut up! I do agree that servers like chronos gmt shouldn't be changed. Now ncwest better come up with server transfers so ppl that are ***ed up on shilen for example can transfer to other servers like bartz which is stil gmt-6 as i know?
The new times suck even worse if you live in Asia. I'm an American but I'm spending a year in Asia and now there's no way I can participate in sieges or Olympiads. Before they were mid/late morning for me, now they'll be middle of the night/way too early morning. Kinda sucks...

I think it's one thing if you join a server knowing what the times are set for, you obviously agree to play on that server in order to join it, but it's totally different if they change the times on you years after you've been playing on it. A lot of Euro players throw out that there wasn't always a Euro server to choose from, but I'm guessing that most Euro players who are still playing on Chronos didn't actually start that early. I'd bet most of them started after at least one Euro server was opened. (And now I'm sure at least 3 or 4 long-timers will come saying that there wasn't a Euro server when they started...)

Anyways, even if the vast majority of players are Euro, they should at least have one dedicated NA server that people can transfer to.

Well, i gues all Americans go to Barz and problem solved, you are minority anyways.

please educate yourself at least a little bit about where is USA on map and in what state its economy is. uncle sam needs money, and money printing magic doesn't work, so what will you do?

Tip: battleships are on the way to the middle east once again.

Naia i believe its called.

Not when I started we didn't. I chose Devianne as it was the one that my friends were on.

I got used to missing out on the second siege, and having to play late for Oly; however, I am happy for the new time change (Chronos).

And before someone says "swap server" the rules are too restrictive (for me). I would want all my toons moving, AND all my mats/gear. (You can only move equiped items, so what about blunt/pole for the dwarf?).

... what?

Only Naia (UTC+1) and Shilen (UTC+0) will have "Euro" time zones. There is no part of Europe which is at UTC-2 (time zones of Chronos and Magmeld) or UTC-5 (time zone offset of Bartz) at any time of the year. Quite the opposite, both are present in North America.

The amount of geography fail at these forums is astonishing ...

Before you accuse others of 'fail', maybe you should make sure you're not failing as you speak.

UTC-2 is not present anywhere in North America, despite what you seem to think. The vast majority of North America (which includes Canada, US and Mexico) are located in the UTC -5 through UTC -8 time zones. Canada also includes smaller portions (relative to the size of the continent) in the UTC-4 and UTC -3.5 timezones and the US has Alaska in the UTC -9 timezone.

Now, if your geography knowledge is so limited that you are considering Brazil to be part of North America, or if you believe that North and South America are all one gigantic super-continent called "North America", then I think that truly would be "geography fail".

For that matter, even South America doesn't have any continental land which falls under the UTC -2 time zone year round. Most of Brazil is UTC-3 or UTC-4 with several states that enter UTC -2 during DST, but that's not even half the country.

It seems pretty obvious that the UTC -2 was a compromise between European time zones and North and South American time zones. Everyone can point the finger across the Atlantic all they want but the reality is that the UTC -2 timezone doesn't really belong to any continent and is hardly used at all.

I think the change is the worst for those on the west coast of the US, who are in the UTC-8 timezone. I don't think Chronos time should have been changed at all, but if it was, I think a better compromise would have been UTC -3, which would have put both the west coasters and the Eastern Europeans within 5 hours of the server time. Or considering that the majority of Euro players are probably in the UTC -1 time zone rather than -2, they could have set the server at UTC-3.5, putting the west coast US and most of Europe 4.5 hours from the server time.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Pierre_and_Miquelon) and most of Greenland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland) are at UTC-2 in the summer (UTC-3 in the winter), with parts of Greenland being UTC-4, UTC-1 and even UTC+0. Guess which continent they are on.

By the way: Alaska has two time zones, UTC-9 and UTC-10 (both with DST, if I remember correctly).

As I wrote .. the amount of geography fail on these forums is astonishing.

LOL Seriously, it was sad before, but now it's just pathetic. I did know about Greenland as well as Saint Pierre and Miquelon but chose not to include them. Why? Because, according to the very same website you directed me to:

"Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe (specifically Norway and later Denmark) for more than a millennium."

An island associated with Europe (not even a sovereign state - part of the Kingdom of Denmark) and two tiny islands owned by France? You are getting into the absurd splitting hairs over Greenland and Saint Pierre/Miquelon.

And really, how many people do you actually think are playing L2 from Greenland? The total population of Greenland is smaller than any town I've ever lived in. If WoWarcraft was a country, it would have a population 200x the size of Greenland. It is absolutely stupid to mention Greenland - the only reason you are is that you feel smarter when you think you make others look stupid.

Greenland, Saint Pierre and Miquelon are all islands and not a part of the continental land mass of North America. There are some South American islands also in UTC-2 but I didn't mention them either. Why? Cuz it's stupid to nitpick on such non-consequential things. No one cares about tiny islands with populations smaller than the server we're talking about!! (Saint Pierre and Miquelon anyone?)

By the way: Alaska has two time zones, UTC-9 and UTC-10 (both with DST, if I remember correctly).

This is not related to anything we're talking about. It does not add to the conversation in any way, shape or form. Again, the area that is UTC-10 is such a ridiculously small portion of Alaska that it's not even worth mentioning. A few of the westernmost Aleutian islands are in this timezone. The largest city in the Aleutian islands has a population barely over 4,000 people - and that's not even in the UTC-10 timezone. What is the point of mentioning that Alaska has the UTC-10 timezone? Oh, that's right, you're trying to make yourself feel smart again! Sorry, I forgot what a fragile ego you had.

My point is and will remain that the UTC -2 timezone is a compromise between European and American timezones. It's stupid to tell people in NA that "it's a North American timezone!" and expect them to be happy.

3,074 islanders in the South Atlantic live with the UTC -2 timezone year round. That is the entire population of the planet that lives in the UTC -2 timezone all year. At most, 62,503 islanders in the North Atlantic have the UTC -2 timezone in the summer. Geographically, a few North American islands with very small populations use the UTC-2 timezone. But logistically with the majority of North Americans living in the UTC-5 to UTC-8, it is not an American timezone. Even if you throw in Brazil's millions who get UTC-2 as DST, that still doesn't change the fact that the majority of North and South American's do not live in UTC-2. Being 2 or 3 hours later than Europe, it's actually a lot closer to Europe's timezones than it is to a large portion of North America.

So sure, you can say it's a North American timezone - you'd be technically correct and you'd look like an idiot at the same time! So congrats! I think you've achieved that!

I really gave up trying to discuss things with him in another thread. It feels like nitpicking on something that is completely irrelevant to the actual game just to be 'right'. And honestly, I don't really feel like wasting my time.

But sure, all the population from St. Pierre & Miquelon and Greenland are very ecstatic about the new server timezone changes!
this thread owns.

Non sequitur. I was talking about geography, not population. :) Since I only ever try to prove what I actually claimed, I only quoted the part of Teillana's post which is relevant to my claims.

EDIT: And yes, I'm trying my best to be correct whenever I make a claim or correct someone. It wouldn't make sense to not try to do it, would it?
hey akj.. u put ur foot in ur mouth on this one...

i seem to remember u arguing till ur blue in the face about FRANCE haveing utc -2 (with the st piere et miquelon reference) and i agreed with u.....

if its part of france its part of EUROPE and not North America.

since its THE ONLY place even near North America at utc-2 (closest being our beloved newfies at utc -3:30)

u cant now turn around and fight saying North America Includes utc-2 lolololol

Actually, parts of France are at UTC-2 in the summer too. So - the French won! Viva la France! :D

A polite trolling attempt is still trolling. Politely done without calling names, but still trolling.

So that's why I'm not insisting on this at all. Anyone with any braincells would know what the thread is about and how utterly irrelevant those timezone comments are, in any case ;)
oh ud feel different if u only had 6 hours of daylight during the winter trust me lol
You would think Innova would be going WTH are they doing… we have a deal and they are changing their time zones to compete with our servers. I'm guessing it was a deal they couldn’t refuse.

You're missing an important piece of information here: France isn't located just in Europe (just like Great Britain, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Russia and a lot of other countries). It's one of the North American parts of France (as well as some of the North American parts of Denmark) which has UTC-3 in winter and UTC-2 in summer.

You see, there are places in France which are in North America. :) The proper term for such a country is a transcontinental country (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transcontinental_countries).
ok ill give u that onesice so far i cantfind ne evidence to refute it lol but ill give u a better one....

u didnt include that nederlands is also utc -5... see if u can figure that one out lololol
