Awakened griefing players on aoe in fog/cod etc, fix the system?

General Discussion Started Last reply 91 posts
I'm sure this has happened to many people, you're in an aoe party in fog or so, some awakened nut job will hit a party member to flag him self, then our aoes will unwillingly hit the purple named player, in turn the awakened player will then wipe our squad while we got a big lure on us, sometimes the awakened player has 1 other with him to assist with the griefing.

It's a real big pain in the *** having to deal with it, I mean sure I'd like to do some PvP, many times we have had squad PvPs for spots, thats all fine because we just flagged while they wasn't killing any mobs and vise versa, the other team starts to attack then it's fair game, but having awakened players attack us in the middle of a lure is just plain annoying, surely there could be a fix to make it so we don't attack back unless we hit some check box to "attack all", or "attack reds" or "attack flagged" etc, or just make it so we have to always hit ctrl to attack and become flagged aswell, just to be able to attack back anyway, just my 2 cents.
Same happens in toi, but they don't flag, they just agro aoe nuker mobs to newbies and kill them with the help of the mobs.
the worst is when a feoh wizard death breath you and keep following until you die for a monster
happens everywhere. I'm willing to pvp for a spot and they just don't flag and keep on doing what they doing. It's lame
There was a feoh death breathing like everyone in toi 11-12 the other day... and there was a group of awakens there too.. so even if you flagged, most of us beign a grade, they would either instantly kill you or death breathe and let a mob kill you. It was going on for a number of hours, couldn't get a good grind in that night... really annoyed me. I'm all for pking, but greifing like this is just lame. I know this is L2... but something should be done about these people, petitions were even down that night so no one could report.

Although, I admit it was awesome to see that group of awakens get rolled by some other awakens that came through, multiple times.
Then I bet the awakened toon says in his clan/alliance chat "yes! I just owned an entire party and increased my pvp score" followed by many e-high fives.

I really don't understand it either.. kids will be kids I guess.

yes and kids cry....

OMG ur crying!
I have a feeling awakened toons are paranoid that people will catch up to them and they must prevent leveling at all costs to stop competition.

lol it's and MMO for a reason.
1-86 -> 100MPH
87-99-> 2MPH

someday swampland just won't cut it.

lol

people always complain that awakenen toons do X or Y

yes i have been pvpin on alt with same **** gear as every1 could get then i got stomped by awaken toon
so i said ok u like it that way so i come back with my main and the alt again i start pvpin again and guess what he doesnt have the balls to flag back

these people who kill lowbies are just ******ed and cant kill any1 among their own lvl

QQ. go away troll. He wasn't crying, he was making an observational note. It's completely normal for an adult to become frustrated with the immaturity of others. That's why we all hate our children. :P

On a serious note, yeah I've heard it happen quite a bit. I've had this problem a few times at SoA -- but we can at least stop most of our aoes when we see someone flag, finish the mobs off, then deal with the flags after. (Though, that's easier said than done if you have 3 bird groups on you :P). FoG you need to AoE regardless, so that's a little ****** up in my opinion -- especially an awakened intentionally griefing non-wartag people in a lower level zone.

I gather let their clan leader or officers know what's going on, if they're in a clan. Most clans, even PvP clans, do not want ******bags.

An alternative is to have 1-2 Awakened come with you to watch over you guys leveling -- but that's not easy if you're not in a clan with that support system. I totally understand the frustrations of a casual player as well.
It's been like that since ages ago. It has nothing to do with GoD or awakening.

Griefing is a part of the game, it's working as intended whether you like it or not.

Petitioning isn't going to help you. You'll get a auto response saying it's a pvp issue and that it's part of the game. It is so all you can do is leave and go elsewhere or get help from others.

You don't even have any "facts" to even prove them to even BE facts. At this point you're just tossing out garbage in attempt to be insulting..no working.
The purpose of the grind in this game is to level up and kill others. Bullies have been around since the first cave dwellers determined a pecking order. You should have drawn first blood. "The best defense is a good offense," and don't forget "hesitation kills!"

All in all this has been a working as designed for years. You organize and fight them off or you can come to the forums complain you got beat into the sand and you let them. If this is unsettling you may need to redirect you efforts into chess or backgammon where you fight as equals and only luck or brain power separate you from a bully.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't do anything but it was worth a shot. Considering it went on for a number of hours and they had trained on us 4 times already and harrassing in all chat about join their clan or die and all kinds of obscenities for not joining. I figured if it was a form of player harrassment that went on this long, something could be done.

Profanities and derogatory remarks are against the rules, but I've never seen it enforced. I think the GM would still tell you it's a pvp matter regardless. It's just how things are passed off in this game. It's NCSoft what did you expect is what we say around here.

What PvE game? I've been here most likely longer than you have. There is a difference between PvP and being a total ****.

Naaa there is not.
Player vs Player does not need to be fair to be PvP, just get used to it.
At one point in the game's history healers could heal mobs. Best way to grief a party because they took full xp lose on death. Same could be used to keep raids from downing bosses. Yes I play a healer. :P

This game was not designed to be fair. It can be frustrating at times but if you stick it out you will catch up to these people in levels and turn the tables.
Would be as simple as applying the same principle as some of the high lvl areas have.
You can only enter harnaks when you are awakened, make it so u cant enter certain places if you are awakened.
Personally i dont really care most of the people who grief lowbies run or bsoe once a decent fight shows up.

The most upseting part would be what Aconyte said, griefing is a part of the game, once things are seen like this there isnt much left to say.
All in all this has been a working as designed for years. You organize and fight them off or you can come to the forums complain you got beat into the sand and you let them. If this is unsettling you may need to redirect you efforts into chess or backgammon where you fight as equals and only luck or brain power separate you from a bully.

I highly doubt that grief playing is "working as intended", grief playing is not accepted in any game, go check the ToS your self, as for the "and you let them" comment, you try defending against 1-2 awakening characters that are pummelling their damage into your flagged squad mates while you have a good 40 mobs on your *** as well, then also trying to keep your self alive as the healer while keeping the party alive from the mobs....sounds easy doesn't it?
New DOT/Debuffs are absolutely HORRIBLE changes. There's a reason stuff like that was nerfed in the fist place.

With AOE skills simply don't use them with flagged players about, PR/Run/Die if you have to or if poling it's easy only to hit mobs. Didn't they change AOE so it only hit flagged players if you held ctrl? Don't use next target, click mobs yourself.

However people will abuse it, it's fun.

Best thing is simply ignore them, log your healer, let the party die if you must and just wait for them to go, rez up and carry on XPing.

DONT talk to them.
DONT QQ.
DONT give a rats about it.

It's a simple game, they want you to react and cry, you don't, they get fed up and move on, you win and carry on XPing. You cry, they win, you don't XP.
I highly doubt that grief playing is "working as intended", grief playing is not accepted in any game.

That is why L2 was different. GMs or Devs didn't go around holding our hands. We worked our own problems out in game. Petition a gm and you will pretty much get a answer back saying they don't get involved in player disagreements. Griefing is part of this game. Always has been and always will be. It has softened up a little over the years but it's still not a game for the faint of heart.

This game isn't about a happy land where everyone gets along until they hit a pvp zone or other game equivalents to a flagged pvp area. All of L2 is a pvp area and if you happen to look at a town guard the wrong way he might kill you too. Just ask the old sop farmers and ant queen bots about that.
I don't think anyone is disputing the availability of doing these things, and the fact that it is certainly part of the game. I've personally grown used to it, and sometimes I actually enjoy a griefer coming my way.

But the thing is, it really isn't a necessary or intended part of the game -- most of it is people with low self-esteem (presumptuous, but logical), some of it is just candid temporary enjoyment for the person or acting out against the present environment (Hugedouch3r for example has a very valid reasoning, in my opinion, for going perma-red). Just because it's there, doesn't mean you should be okay with it.

No one here is happy with bots, no one here is happy with RMT, no one here is happy with the login server issues. They're all here, but none of them are intended parts of the game. People have a right to complain about them and be frustrated.

Given the mechanics of the game, I would say griefing was not an intended part of the game.

Possible? Yes.
Can you be banned for it? No -- but you cannot be banned for scamming either, so that doesn't say much.

Honestly, if you guys don't have anything to say that's supportive of another person when they're obviously frustrated about a serious oversight in game-play mechanics, don't say anything at all.

I started in September of 2004 -- I can honestly tell you, that while griefing has always been around -- it has NEVER been an acceptable part of game-play.

If the awakened players were intending to zone lock the place so they can powerlevel clannies -- that is an intended part of the game. However, if the awakened players are abusing a flag oversight -- that is not an intended part of the game.

So like said, PvP is PvP -- but ***** are *****.

Then why did you post about it? What do you want us to do? Hold your hand and give you a pat on the bottom and say "there, there". Players have done this since the beginning. It's considered PvP whether you think it's fair or not. You'll just have to xp harder to get higher, get help or go someplace else and xp. This is a pvp game and you won't be left to play in peace much as most of us wish that it won't happen.
I didn't post about it? I'm not the OP -- are you blind?

I'm only here to defend this guy against apparently a large number of trolls.

It still applies since you are no better than him crying about a aspect of the game you don't like. It has been this way since the game was released and its not going to change no matter how much you complain the the GM about it.

Did you even read my post? I am not disputing that, had you even read my post -- you would know that I personally do not have an issue with it. But I rationalize that it is very logical for others to have a problem with it.

Judging this guys forum creation date, not that it is proof of anything, he is fairly new. He may not be accustomed to the game entirely, and it's fair game for him to complain. Things like this HAVE been fixed because players bring them up, despite 9 times out of 10 -- it's from people complaining in Korea not here.

You need to take the time to actually read other people's posts, before you start questioning them.

I only commented on the part I quoted nothing else. Look are what I was actually commenting on before you rage.
happens everywhere. I'm willing to pvp for a spot and they just don't flag and keep on doing what they doing. It's lame

the problem is they removed the check players had over griefers ie: being able to pk a greifer. They made it so you basically have to leave your xp spot if the guy who is ksing is a punk. The system needs a changing so the checks cajn be reinstated, this would also lead to more pvp which is a good thing imo
And who said I was raging -- you don't know me, nor my demeanor. Yes, you took a comment from my post -- but your intended direction was something completely else that I had already answered very clearly. This tells me you either lack the ability to understand things in a normal manner (Despite normal being subjective; and I additionally doubt), are jumping to irrational conclusions, or you're simply just a troll.

Given I don't think you're a troll nor an idiot, I think you're jumping to irrational conclusions.

No one here was asking for them to turn the game into one for carebears, they're simply complaining about a function that I've seen hundreds complain about in-game. High (90+) and low level alike.

So like I said -- you need to actually take the time to read people's posts clearly before you start questioning them.

The only thing I find that works is tricking them into flagging then killing them. I've had to do this in sel mahums many times. I asked them twice to stop pulling my camps and offer them their own camps cutting my camps down to 2 and offering them 3 or 2 for them to have so they'll leave me alone. As usual they don't listen so I just hit em and when they next target they'll hit me and then I kill them. Sometimes they come back and sometimes they don't.
Read the Rules of conduct". Enforced or not, Making someone flag when they do not want to flag is against the first rule. Things that do not benefit a griefer get fifty threads about how its not fair, we cant just randomly kill someone now and wash it away with a few deaths, we can't pull two thousand mobs anymore to train these people we don't like, Why should they be able to go to an instance zone where we cant get to them to ruin their day....WHY?? FIX IT!!! We want to GREIF people.....blah blah blah.

Now that someone comes here with something that was fixed a while back... yes it was....... he gets all this "Deal with it crap". I have seen people that ALL they want to do is grief others. They use whatever in game glitch, exploit they can to ruin someone's day. Don't come back with just move somewhere else. That only works for a bit til the griefer in the new area starts in on you. It may be part of the game, but is is not intended to ruin someones gameplay.

Again.... read rule number ONE in "Rules of conduct".
lol penny you were owned

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick you should know by now NC does not care if you can't get creative to defend yourself. If I had a $1 for every person crying on these forums about their spots being taken, being harassed, going red and so on I'd make out.

Jesus has nothing to do with this. Three words...Enforced or not. Didn't say NC would or would not do anything. What it really boils down to is what kind of community we have that plays the game. Some folks do all you can do in game then try to prevent people from doing the same by griefing them. What gives the high lvel player the right to stop others from doing what they did while having fun doing it. It is just like they can't stand seeing someone else reach the level that they did, only difference is one got there with no harrassment, the other can't get away from it.

Rationalise it all you want, it just comes down to what kind of players we have in game. Oh and like I said....Jesus had nothing to do with it. Maybe it would be a better community if he did though.

The word "crying" really gets thrown around way to much for all the wrong reasons, 1Peri1 being a prime example of not knowing what "crying" means, over time I've just came to the conclusion that the person using it is just a troll and doesn't care about "that random person" they've yet to meet, the purpose of this thread was to simply state some things that have been happening to me and obviously many others and a small suggestion on what could easily fix the "flagging unwillingly" situation.

The idea of these high level griefers it that they want an easy kill for "free" without the penalty that they deserve, thankfully the no exp on death event has been on, though the draw back is that these high levels also have no fear on being potentially ganked back instead if it fails whilst attacking us in a lure, regardless, this wasn't a "QQ" thread, please see that.
If someone makes you flag to take your spot (ye its a horribly broken game mechanic) go back and do it back to them or train them. That's what I do.

Well there's always the potential to go red and add to the pk count and I believe after 5 pk's you are able to drop items.

Honestly it is a whine post. You don't like being forced to pvp or being harassed because you won't pvp. Sure it's unfair because of the level gap,but really there's not one thing you can do about it except complain like everybody else who deals with this. Do I care about other players?, maybe if they actually considerate of another person's xp area. Truth is no one gives a crap. If they can take your spot or mobs and you let them then that's his win. I chose the latter and flagged up and in turn he next targeted and flagged. I used to feel just like you at your levels, but now I just wear my thick skin and do what needs to be done. The only people important to me are my clannies and close friends. Everyone else is just that...everyone else.
At one point in the game's history healers could heal mobs.

(?) I healed some mobs yesterday...

It's honestly not a whine post -- the OP made a fairly reasonable observation of the current abuse of the flagging system. For the most part, people have been actually fairly mature and clear headed except for an obvious few.

As far as I can tell -- I don't see anyone really complaining except the people complaining about how people come here to post complaints, which is rather ironic. Granted a lot of people do make complaint threads -- this has been one that has been more seriously objective of the actual problem; the new flagging system is broken.

Like both Discreet and I have said -- they've made changes before. There is no reason to berate someone for bringing up an obvious oversight. Leave that for the private server folk who are rage posting incoherently, which even I have trouble not trolling :P.

And no, you won't drop items after 5 PKs. It is, presently, at a PK count of 31+. Additionally, which I'm going to love see happening because people are ignorant of the update, you will go red regardless of lawfulness if you have a PK count above 30 if you PK again.
thx for the shoutout much love :D

No problem dude :p. You've got support from AW :p.

It's rather obvious that some people in the community are more interested in cheap easy kills then allowing people to level up and provide a real fight. So you'll be dealing with this kind of activity in some variation or another for the rest of your time in this game.

+1 Because you might as well get used to it.
Its a bit wrong that the tanks aura of hate flags without pressing the ctrl. This makes stealing a room quite easy. That is why they probably do this to you, they bring their awakened character to finish you off and take your spot with their alts / clannies / friends.

It happens all the day in hamak between awakened characters and since you have the mobs on you you dont even need an awakened character. All you do is flag stand next to the tank or poler, flag poler/tank, this flags healer, kill healer wait for the party to die, take the spot. Its easy. (I am not saying its right)

The problem is two fault: aura of hate flags without force and the level spots are little and small. Instance based level spots would change it, but you ll need to play a different game for that I think.
+1 Because you might as well get used to it.

I am used to it pretty much, Just like I'm used to 80% of the player base being inconsiderate a-holes that loves to k/s regardless, like today for instance in PI, I was at the area (away from the repeatable quest to kill 30 mobs) at the bottom of the map is it? where the teleport npc is that ports you to the other lil island where the 3 npcs are, anyway I had a lure of about 10-15 mobs or so, I saw someone else with pretty much the same mobs, I stopped for a sec to begin to aoe (using evas saint, other person was some mage class), so the other person stopped about 6 meters away from me with her lure as well, targeted my mobs and began to kill them instead...I was just like, are you freaking serious? how bad can you get?, so of course just to be a total **** back to them, I followed her for her next 2 lures and robbed them both whilst she was luring, totally deserved it, I'm used to Ksing on this game, but sometimes it's just totally pathetic and they need their head checking.

Most of them did it on private servers so they do it now on retail. I had to tell a player 3 times last night to stop pulling the measly two camps I had in sel mahums. There were FOUR other camps I said he could have just so he'd leave me alone. It's not like I was hogging all six camps. I was willing to share. Then he wanted me to sell him my warrior helmet and bugged me about that. If it was for sale I'd have it in auction house FFS

Our Chain Galaxy flags too without targeting anyone :/ (non-forced).

To my knowledge, most classes have this problem [E.g. Summoners having their summons in defensive mode for example, automatically flag if they're hit.] -- but I can only speak for myself from experience (Sigil) and testing.

chain galaxy is the formal name of it? lol we've been calling it the snot slinger or booger whip

If you're referring to our pull, that's Chain Strike (single target) and Chain Hydra (multiple nearby targets) -- but yea, it does look like snot being slung now that you mention it haha :P. Our chain galaxy is a target-less AOE we can use for damage and it also has a fairly high rate of landing a -Healing Power Debuff.

Essentially any skill we have flags without pressing CTRL if we accidentally have the person targeted as well. It's not limited to our targetless skills like Hate Aura and Chain Galaxy.

So say for example a tank flags near us, uses an aura to get me to target them accidentally, if I use any of my skills without noticing in time -- I flag that way too even using a basic single target skill without it being a forced skill.

Being a healer I can sympathize with the flagging issue. Aoe heals or a heal tree will flag you fairly easy and once that happens the entire party is either going have to defend or die. I've had some instances in Harnaks where this happened sometimes we won and sometimes we eventually had to leave.

Yeah, most people don't bug us when we're in a clan group. The only people I've had problems with this on Chronos is AKIN. Nova are actually normally pretty respectful unless you're actually, even unintentionally, taking over their spot.

I see AKIN groups on a regular occurrence abusing this daily sadly. Granted not everyone in that alliance are ********, they definitely have a large group of ********.

Old Nova [Synergy/Malevolance and other friends / lackies] are heading over to Magmeld to my knowledge though, RescueRangers [Who are actually VERY nice people] were merging with the remaining Nova now I think [ I can be wrong though ]. I think you're on Naia, but I'm guessing we'll see more power-struggles over here on Chronos now. Especially as ProPve grows stronger [Whom I actually respect myself] and other alliances/clans are making serious pushes.

So I'm guessing we may be seeing more of this problem soon as people want to beat their chest griefing unprepared people.

Is what it is though, that type of stuff is part of the game -- even if some of it shouldn't be :P.

No I was on Chronos and I went to magmeld. Just needed to get off that over populated server. And for something new with different people, but seems it'll be the same ol people anyways.

Ah yea. Not sure why I thought you were on Naia, might have been someone else.

Yea, you definitely may run into the same people. I think OrcishHorde are over there too and a few other clans. And I've been reading Ebil is still alive, kicking and botting there too.

yeah same ol song and dance. On a happy note Tera is offering pre-order and beta testing schedules for those who pre-order . I may be doing that soon enough

There's a whole level range where TOI is your only choice for grouping efficiently.

Tera is pretty terabad last I was involved with it..

I'm not a buddy...I'm female. I really hate that everyone assumes males are gamers. Yes I go shopping and do what females do,but I also happen to game.

Tera was just announced available for pre-order. Unless you got into some special test group there's no way you've played it. Official launch is May 1st. I don't know where you're from, but it's never been available here.

Yes but how are your sammich making skills?
I'm sure this has happened to many people, you're in an aoe party in fog or so, some awakened nut job will hit a party member to flag him self, then our aoes will unwillingly hit the purple named player, in turn the awakened player will then wipe our squad while we got a big lure on us, sometimes the awakened player has 1 other with him to assist with the griefing.

It's a real big pain in the *** having to deal with it, I mean sure I'd like to do some PvP, many times we have had squad PvPs for spots, thats all fine because we just flagged while they wasn't killing any mobs and vise versa, the other team starts to attack then it's fair game, but having awakened players attack us in the middle of a lure is just plain annoying, surely there could be a fix to make it so we don't attack back unless we hit some check box to "attack all", or "attack reds" or "attack flagged" etc, or just make it so we have to always hit ctrl to attack and become flagged aswell, just to be able to attack back anyway, just my 2 cents.
i admit that i'm mean sometmes... i do debuff on ppl who is not flagged.. as u know wynn summoners skills drain cp-Hp til 0 so when they train.. mobs kill them... i start doing this because someone else did to me when i was just 3rd class.. and i did steal some of their mobs, and since u cant pk with this new system.. debuff with no flag is always a good help.

The only way he could have played it is the Korean version and in another post we heard that Koreans don't use aimbots or any type of bot program because it makes them feel dirty so go figure :)

My fiancee games and I met her in a different korean MMO many years ago. She has played this game with me too.

You are correct that there hasn't been a N/A release yet but the game was released in Korea last year.

why not just run mobs off instead of /attack when guy flags?
even if you get griefed and die jus click town/clanhall etc. and wait 20 minutes and go back or go to another spot. youll have aoed your xp back in less time than it takes to make a post complaining about it.

Enlighten me, what was huge d bags reason for going perma red?
I highly doubt that grief playing is "working as intended", grief playing is not accepted in any game, go check the ToS your self, as for the "and you let them" comment, you try defending against 1-2 awakening characters that are pummelling their damage into your flagged squad mates while you have a good 40 mobs on your *** as well, then also trying to keep your self alive as the healer while keeping the party alive from the mobs....sounds easy doesn't it?

Well, sorry to break the news to you, but it's an accepted pvp tactic. I grief the **** out of ppl when I want the spot, especially since they changed the karma system. If this was Pre-GOD you'd all just be getting PK'd and then we'd wash it and sin eater later. Now I get little smug nubs thinking they can KS or keep a spot because no one wants to go red. Long time players know all sorts of ways to kill people.

I miss dropping trains of mobs on bots and watching them pop and drop gear or stacks of mats...

ahhh the good old days when you could make 10mill + per day griefing bots ;)

Totally agree.

This was my experience with a couple of people in ToI:

<Killing MOBs>
<Person Walks in starts pulling>
Me: Room Taken
<Person Doesn't Respond>
Me: Room Taken. Is there a problem.
Person: PK me then noob. (Verbatim, I've had a number of them say exactly this...)
Me: Ok, brb...
<Runs Wizard to Spot>
<Cast Death Breath>
<Cast Hell Binding>
<Person Dies, Switch Client and start killing again>

Alternate Method:

Run Wizard Close By, flag on them. They flag back and I just click in the direction of my other toon, switch clients, and kill them. Sit there until my flagged state wears off and then go continue XPing.

If you do PK them then they yell PKer on xxx floor I guess they're ignorant that it takes a lot more PKs to drop gear and it's not hard to get red off.

Hell, with the changes in Harmony it's gonna be easy to run a Pera-Mentee 85 ISS buffbot to a safe spot and summon yourself to clear Karma...
yes and kids cry....

OMG ur crying!

I love kids thinking exposing a point on a thread is crying. Your post is a cry. His post was exposing a point.

It's full of bored kids around there. Most u can do is pm teir clan leader and see if he has any kind of respect for his clan. If he doesn't then just find another spot or quit the game, sucks but this is the way this game goes: it's meant for kids and there's no "mom" to watch them up, so kids do wtv they please. :D
He doesn't have a point. Don't play an Open PvP game if you don't wanna get griefed... It's that simple.

Or you can always stay below level 40 and enjoy blessing of protection...
Simple, easy fix:
Cant attack player more than 10 lvls above or below you.
