The only skill this game takes is situational awareness and know when to press what button. I'm getting chuckles out of people that act as if they're olympics champs because they can beat someone in a game like this. Let me break it down for you in case you can't figure it out for yourself. There are too many variables in this game to even consider skill a major factor in deciding who wins in pvp. First variable, equips. If you have better gear obviously you'll have better stats and more likely to win. Second variable, randomized damage. Got a 15k magic crit? That's called luck, not skill. Third variable, balance (or lack of) between class match ups. Heavy armor beats light armor, light armor beats robes, robes beat everyone. So after all of that, you may then start considering if pressing F1 F2 F3 repeatedly is considered skillful.

yes thats the skill, what else you should be skilled? :confused:be skilled in equiping items?
dunno why you write the first sentence and say this is skill...and continue all other things are luck....pvp is awareness and pressing buttons...so dunno what you want to say.
indeed the know what button is overwhelmed by luck, e.g. pressing stun button...it works=> win....it fails=> you better did a other skill..hence you lose.
so if there really woul be skill in pressing buttons...it would be great...but its just a chance it helps to win.
Take some 20-30 "perfect" parties of unskilled noobs who barely know their own class' skills and how to use them and have no idea about other classes. Let them attack a castle defended by some 10 parties of people who have the same levels and equipment, but know what they're doing and are working together under a skilled command channel leader.
If your idea of "this game's PvP requires no skill" would be true, the castle would fall. In reality, those 20-30 parties will have a hard time even breaking through the first door.
That is the PvP skill required in this game. It's not about one vs. one or even party vs. party - it's about how skilled you are at large-scale battles around an objective.
You say gear is one of them? Not 100% true. You with a low grade S armor can kick a Dynasty one.
The same applies with all other types of Low/high armors
in 20 points needed to play this game:
3/10 is for skill
1/10 for weapon
1/10 for armor
1/10 for jewel
2/10 for OE Weapon
2/10 for OE Armor
2/10 for OE jewel
4/10 for ATTRIBUTE weapon
4/10 for ATTRIBUTE armor
1v1 is class not skills that matter that's true. However MMO and specially Lineage 2 was and never will be about solo player experience and that's the reason I enjoy the game so much. This game is about teamwork and leadership. It's much more complex than it looks like. Take WoW for example and no matter how skilled single party is the chance of him winning against 2 or 3 at least half skilled parties is almost zero. However in l2 it's the other way around because game mechanics depend not on single persons performance but performance of whole party as a single unit and this requires other kinds of skill set.
I think most sensible players will realize that the skill involved in hotkey MMOs is generally very very minimal. The only one that really sticks out that has really well balanced and high skilled based PvP is Guild Wars but that's because the whole game was centered around that aspect.
1v1s in L2 more or less boil down to luck, equipment and class to class balance. Not much skill to be had. Team battles start to be a little more interesting, where actual focus of targets and things of the like start to come into fruition but overall is still rather simple. Sieges and just large scale battles in general are really the only places where skill could come into question but it's not so much individual skill but teamwork and correct usage of your party(s).
You could almost compare the skill in L2 to a very minor portion of an RTS game; correctly making use of your army, knowing what and where to attack and why and who or what to focus on. Only difference is of course that every unit has a player behind it.
this game is skill base like any game in the world... you guys just don'T know what kind of skill...
First one is you must no how to play your class<----first skill
2nd you need to know enemy class<------second skill
3rd you need to know how to gear<-----3rd skill (commercial skill)
4 you need to know how to make money for 3rd point<-------4th skill
5 you need to know what to do if someone doing this or that...<-----5th skill
6 you need to socialize<------6th skill social capability (the one that make difference).
That it 6 skill game lineage 2.
FPS games 2 skill move + aim ... since you can kill anyone with any weapon...
To the one who thing this game don't need skill you need to start thinking of what is a skill first before making thread.

The only argument against this is button mashing, which most people do. Most people won't analyze what skills/debuffs are appropriate for your opposing class -- but this actually separates the skilled and the unskilled.
This game does take skill but there's a large number of variables to hinder that fact.
-Equipment
-Levels
-Luck
-Buffs
-Readiness (pre-emptive strikes, skills on cooldown, wrong bar setup, etc.)
-Latency
-Numbers
-Party composition
The same thing applies to real life though.
You could be the greatest military soldier in the world. If I catch you while I have a gun at a safe distance with grenades, ammo, etc at the ready and all you have to defend yourself is, I don't know, a pencil? And that is if you are even aware of me taking aim from a distance. You sir are a dead man.
So i many cases skill does little for you because of the fact that ganking, zerging and griefing are the primary traits of today's L2 players and fair fights are usually only found in olympiad or in pre arranged fights. Even in those 2 cases the odds can be against one side great enough that skill doesn't help squeeze in a victory.
But as long as the variables are within reason, the more skillful player will always win.
Crits are a game aspect.
you can control this aspect to some extent.
calling them 100% luck is false.
it's luck... when a crit fails.
sure, luck affects the game, as much as Korean Random.
but you have to build your character a certain way to get the most out of it.
a lot of the skill can be handed down.
someone finds the perfect build, and it gets imitated.
some times bettered.
when it comes to pvp, with equally geared characters, if you don't include third party programs, there is a lot of skill involved.
how much you want to go in, do you want a frontal assault? do you want to trickle in one by one? do you want to run one person through, so they cause everyone to be disoriented? then strike...
selecting the right targets.
using the right skills at the right times.
knowing your role, and improving upon it where time permits.
also as someone mentioned, we have skill bars.
where and what you put on a skill bar matters.
if you have nostromo, the where doesn't influence it as much.
but the what still matters.
some of this skills can be handed down, but just because you hand down the information, doesn't mean the person receiving it will be able to grasp it as firmly as the original.

which includes knowing how many enemies there are, where they are, what classes they are, what they are doing, how well geared they are(assumptions until fought and known better). Also being able to take advantages of enemy weaknesses.
Basic keyboard skills -
Pressing 123 and a few other keys depending on what class you're fighting or whom.
Now, if you perfect those two things, you will be moderately decent/good in pvp. I don't count grind and gear because let's face it, grinding and gear is not skill - that's time spent playing in pve vs time spent playing in pvp. I'm sure you know the difference between the two.
The sad thing is at least half the people who play this game tunnel vision and totally forget about their surroundings and only concentrate on one thing. Which is why some people are "bad" and some people are "better" and then the 25% of the population who are "good".
Same goes for gear some ppl make 1 kk/week some ppl make 1-10KKK/Week depend on how you are skilled to get adena.
if someone have 1-2-3 bots party which farm 24/7 that's NOT a skill, that's lazyness from GMs...
The biggest factor in mass PvP, right now, is lack of GMs... why? Well, if they would ban players who use 3rd party software, then 90% of pvp players will suck in pvp... but right now, the msg which they spam all day regarding reporting, is just spam, nothing else...

A ray of light in the darkness, Akjosh.
Its amazing to see the numbers of people that dont have idea about what Lineage 2 is.
Did you just say that, to get gear faster SKILL is required? What?
Yes to be the first to have something it take skill (go see what skill description look like)
To farm, SKILL is required?
To farm in a efficient way yes.
To learn a plan from someone else in 1 minute,
if it take you 1 mins in pvp your dead... so yes...
to bot or buy adena for real cash, SKILL is required?
No that for not skilled ppl... <<---------------
L2 has gone to hell with this kind of mentality.
What kind of mentality since you don't know what im talking about...

You are in a isolated room with a party setup that a child can think of, with skills saying exactly what they do and all of those can be put in ur head in 1 day, that really takes skill?
Mobs have a pattern and one can easily learn that pattern, only an idiot cannot learn what do.
Is it really hard to read monsters patterns? And it takes skill to absorb that simple knowlegde?
Hell i must be the best farmer in the world. Cause farming, in itself, is the easiest thing to do. You follow a plan, how hard can this be?
I guess that if you are 10yo maybe farming might be an acomplishment when the other 10yo kids see it. Cause once you're past 20yo nothing looks that impressive on PVE on any game cause one holds the ability to do the same without much thought.

Spot on with your post Yuna. In pvp there are a lot of variables to run through, in pve you pretty much know what the mob is going to do every single time. "farming" is just a time sink, you don't need to be skilled to do it, you just need to know which mobs are the best bang for your buck at your level.
hmm, lol ... this game does not need alot of skill tbh.
if u wanna be a olympiad machine , make a Healer ... unbeatable
apart from that .
skill here n there ...
I have seen Heroes that could not even explain smth , he just said to me, i dont know what my skills do , i just hit all my F buttons like playing piano plip plop
80% of the win or not win side is money , if you havent got money u aint got nothing ... you better have a +10 or higher weapon and a +6ed armor set and ofc the boss jewels that shall be at least +6 , and Aq needs to be +8
and ofc once your a known man in oly , u got to use Temp warrior healing pots too. so your in God mode till you run out of Temp warrior healpots in normal pvp
