Just wondering today what the best computer for this game would be. Thinking of buying a new PC and I only really play this game. I really seem to lag when there are about a hundred people in town. But some times I notice that my computers performance just isn't enough anymore even in pvp i notice to lag I'm not sure if its because L2 hasn't updated there drivers or what. But if anyone has any good ideas on a good computer or even a custom build that would be excellent.
Lineage 2 has a problem that, when it overloads after some hours being online without making restart you will start getting PC lag. FPS start dropping and even on alt + p you will experience huge screen lags. This doesn't have to do with internet lag. So no matter how good your PC is, you will start dropping fps down after a few hours.
Run your OS and lineage 2 off a SSD and most of your problems will disappear. Even on a high end system LIneage 2 will run pretty badly in large siege situations if you're not running it on a SSD. Also play around with the view distances. You should notice pretty quickly that wide and very wide tend to have very little to no affect on how far you can see things. By having it set on very wide or even wide you're forcing your computer to render stuff you cannot even see.
512K upload is nowhere near a bottleneck considering there isn't much in the way of up traffic in this game.
I just switched to a SSD, Corsair Force GT, and by god, it's a different experience. Everything on high and I can swivel the camera without any FPS drop...
However, its true, the game has ****** coding. No matter what you do, you will experience a fps drop after a couple of hours of playing. I have to restart the game every 3 to 4 hours, otherwise some noticeable fps drop will appear.
It probably has something to do with the texture maps not flushing itself correctly and it's all kept..maybe on some temp file/page file/RAM? who knows...
It's true l2 wastes so much ram. I wonder if th code was close to 90% perfect how much less pc lag we'd experience. In harnak I lag no matter what. I have to put effects lowest to be able to keep camera facing mobs.

So yeah, rr every 3-4 hours is really helpful.
More like the client crashes and sometimes the whole system freezes after just 30 minutes. If I go SoA or Harnak or port around between 2 or 3 towns I have to restart my client. L2 and Aion are the only games that give me this problem. All other games run smoothly in max detail for hours on end so we can see where this problem comes from ;)
Wake up ppl SSD or RAMDISK(20x faster then any ssd so far) wont help with FPS decrease! only makes game to load faster, thats the game engine configuration problem not hardware. Only thing what i heard that mac PC's handle l2 well, but cant confirm it myself.

lolwut
noob.
solid state drive such as OWC (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/) can read now with speeds up to 800MBps. running L2 from this will make you teleport INSTANTLY. load giran INSTANTLY. siege with NO LAG.
and you (people in general) wonder why some players seem to have a distinct edge at PVP ?

Before calling someone noob check if you arent one, RAMDISK:
you never shut your computer off, and never close Lineage2 ?
ram sticks are not designed to be so durable. Lineage2 folder is over 15GB. you will need 20GB or more to put the folder into permanent RAM, and run Windows. then youmust never turn off your computer, and run an uninterruptible power supply.
if you are running ramdisk then hats off to you. may your computer live a long and healthy few months of existence.
Its not necessary to put all l2 dir to ramdisk, its enough to mklink textures, maps, animations all about 8gb of important data, and yes need to put everytime turning it on, or just a make a script which makes this for you only by 1 click. Tbh other pc with ram disk works over 1 year without problem.
Has anyone tried running L2 off an SD Card? I can't afford an SSD yet, but it seems like a decent SD card could load L2 a bit faster than an HDD, might have just created a project for myself for the week
*edit* maybe not, all I have is a 16gb SD card and L2 + the launcher take up 14.9 on my system, would need to get a 32gb card to be safe

You can use cmd command mklink and put textures to SD card, so all main data would be read from SD card, while l2 works from harddisk. But i dont know if this will be any difference, seak time is faster, but rest..
Anyway i think L2 works better if you got higher speed of processor on one core, cause l2 use only 1 core, so multi core processor dont make much sense.
