When Vitality was changed in GD part of the reason was to prevent players from playing so much that their real life suffered. Having a limited amount of Vitality items per week is intended to mitigate the drive to play too much.

This is from the 2-8-12 maintenance thread. I was wondering how you all feel about this. Personally I think being able to consume an unlimited amount of vitality items would allow/encourage players to play less... I'd say about 200% less. What do you think?
Well there was that guy last year that was unable to keep his job or pay his bills, or even shower due to playing too much.

We dont want that to happen to similarily weak-willed ppl do we?
An old clanmate of mine almost lost her children due to being too addicted to the game so... maybe they have a point.
I have seen multiple stories in the past, most of them from out of Korea, where people died from multiple organ failures becuase of 50+ hour gaming binges. I think the video game industry is probabaly taking the safe way out and adding things like this, so they can say they tried to stop it, if a law suit knocks on their door.
Having less vitality available makes it easier to run out, therefore more time is needed to invest into the game..wouldn't a person play MORE if they gained LESS? Cause the game kinda demands that you don't stay behind with all the competition of mostly bots easily achieving top...
That is if you have the need to develop more and more.
I dont think the "every top player bots and I have to keep up with them" argument applies to game at all.

It's NCwests job to ban cheaters, this is more about company policy to limit too much game play.
Do you guys really believe that someone who is addicted so much that he's loosing job, wife, kids gonna stop playing becouse no VP?
It's like talking that alcoholic stop drinking becouse shop is closed at 10pm.

Maybe not the bot part but keep up with higher lvl players? Without a doubt, you being lower level means you are not accepted in certain parties..because people are judged by their level, which is normal.

Players strive to hit higher levels, we got so many PS players which makes this a fact, cause most of them play to win and not to pve. And if these people are garanteed 5% more when they are already tired, they will stay ingame for those 5%. But if you had more vit to begin with, you'd prolly leave it for the next day cause you'd feel more satisfied with what you acomplished ingame that day.

Are you really that naive? They limit our time played because they sell us exp runes that tick down when we are logged off, which is the exact opposite of what every other game does. I'm really disappointed in the responses this thread has generated. This is a clear conflict of interests here and instead of recognizing it, you all quote some internet ghost stories. Ncsoft had no problem with us potentially killing ourselves when they were only getting 15 dollars a month. But when you up the ante to 20 a week, well that's a different story! They specifically create an environment where we are encouraged to play as much as possible (runes that tick down while logged off) and then they try to play it off as they don't want us to play a lot? What a joke!
I heard that there were threats of gov't regulation in Korea, so they did the 5 item rule as a means of appeasing the government. Of course, here 5 items limits vit pot sales, so now we're @ 7. I wish they'd remove it completely so that the bot to the top race could get done with sooner.

Seriously though, evasummoner makes a good point. A lot of what is done is aimed at keeping you buying runes for as long as possible.
A clear example of how regulation and lack of personal responsibility stifles growth.
Well as their vitality change didn't work they've not allowed any NCoin to be sent through to ingame chars over the weekend and to top it off no staff member has yet given an update as to whats going on.
Trying to limit play much? I'm starting to think NC are doing their best to peeve all players off so they can close their doors.
Maybe its the fact that in the US u can bring any company to court over the stupidest reason?

Like the guy that tried to sue them last year, for being unable to function irl due to the game being too addictive to him.

This could be their way to protect themselves from stupid lawsuits?

Clearly americans cant control their actions, and their legal systems is whack. I'd protect myself as well if I was NCsoft...
