NCsoft created mentor-mentee system to help both to lvl, NO TO GIVE ADENA TO MENTOR AND LIKE ALWAYS "THE NEWBIE LOOSE"
Mentee Reward: Buffs= Lvl up faster.
Mentor Reward: Lvl Up faster buff + Mentee coins (you can exchange them for usefull things)
So why people will charge the other for a completly free system?
Mentor is cheap day by day, and more free mentors are around; after a few weeks, most mentors will be free. System is made so the mentee has the control, indeed, if a mentee is not satisfied with mentor login, mentee can break contract, without penalty, and join a new one, mentor get penalty. A guy in the clan break contract with 5 mentors in two days.
the thing is, mentors want to create a penalty for mentees too by charging outrageous amounts of adena so they won't break contract. I understand the sentiment, and the intention is right but the approach is wrong.
I think the best way to avoid the penalty by random contract cancellation is by allowing for a security deposit, one which you would get in return if the mentor were to kick you or when you graduate. However, if you leave the contract you don't get the money back.
I think this is the best way to alleviate the penalty on the mentors side. It doesn't even have to be adena, it could be anything of worth that's given to the mentoras a SD.
I agree with free mentors, I just also understand why they're charging too.
2-3-4 millions would be something touchable 20-40kk that ppl ask in magmeld where can someone find them when in my char in naia i had 13-20kk at lvl 70????? mentor for lvl 75-86 so that he will have easy coins???? plus 30kk that i died to make???? NO TY in about one month mentors will pay for mentees it happens in naia its coming on magmeld 2 so let them lil more mentees time are coming :P
Am waiting for a free mentor on my 40 lvl WC so i can leave high traffic on naia
and it will be free he will have my nice rewards but no ADENA :D......
charging for mentees is the only way to guarentee they won't leave you when you have to log off for 5 minutes to restart your client! Because how dare you not be a 24/7 mentor when they don't even bother to return the favor. I hate this community sometimes. Mentor either clanmates or people who pay you, otherwise it's a coin toss on whether or not they will **** you over with a 7 day timer and no mentee bonus.

PS: sorry for my bad english :S
You should blame the other childish mentees in game that can't stand not having mentor buffs whenever they are online. I am a free mentor, but also understand why some mentor will want to charge. If I have more mentee dismissing the contract with me in the future because of their childishness, I'll start to charge (randoms) as well :D

imo, mentee pays mentor 30kk and after graduation mentee gets the 30kk
imo, there will not be many free mentors because many mentees will leave their free mentor or will start leveling an alt.
I mentored 3 mentees for free. 1 graduated at level 86 the other 2 stopped leveling and started leveling alts, I was on about 20 hours and when not leveling I was sitting and online for mentees to level.
Mentoring for free? no ty, I'll mentor my alts for free :D
The people dont understand that the "fee" is cuz of the wrong design in the mentor system. It should be that the one finishing the contract recieve 7 days. But atm is only the mentor who recieve penalty even if the mentee leave.
In real life contracts for example, the person who finish the contract without a juridic reason or an exception imposed in the contract is the one that have to "pay or get a penalty".
Here only the mentor recieve the penalty, and for 7 days. If you pay you dont leave. If you dont wanna pay, keep searching or get out.
And... COME ON, THERE ARE MENTEES THAT ASK YOU TO POWLVL THEM UP/ BUFF THEM EVERY 4 MIN OR THEY LEAVE LOL. But is easier to say "all the mentors that ask for a fee are lame.
PD: i don't know why, but i liked making some important phrases in dif colours.

/end_thread because this guy just inadvertently explained why ppl charge out the *** for mentor slot.
Maybe NCSoft should rework the Mentor system. A pop up should.... pop up warning the mentee that to proceed, he/she would have to pony up 5 million adena in agreement. At the end of the contract, the mentee gets his money back, the mentor doesn't get a waiting period and life goes on. If the mentee breaks the contract, the mentor gets the 5mil plus a waiting period and the mentee gets a longer waiting period with no Vit and no ability to replenish Vit with items. If the mentor breaks the contract, the mentee gets his 5mil back plus no waiting period and the mentor forfeits all mentee coins earned in the contract, if no coins he earns none until system reclaims the right amount and suffers a waiting period with no Vit.
I see mentors pay 50mil 40 to 86 for mentee at chronos so gf mentees you pay lol
Mentee coins safe tons of money when you want to basic element weapon/armour or want to play over enchanting weapons/armours etc etc do mentors ask Adena sounds to me like all the lol enchanters with title «500k=buffs»

Charge for something that has been given to players for free?
They are right, that L2 was and remains the worst game as far as it concers its' community.
1) The system is wrong (this is for NCsoft). The system has to be like clan system, if mentor expell mentee, he cant have another mentee for 24hs, and if the mentee dismiss, he cant have another mentor for 24hs :D
2) What is that of 24/7? Is the worstest system ever, that why the servers have lag!
Why can not agree on a schedule? and if some day the mentor cant connect in a special time of the schedule, he only warns you and u can have a break ;)
Every single person that I've mentee'd(without knowing them) for free has either quit game or left me because I'm not on as soon as servers come up from maintenance(serious...I'm on 24/7 otherwise). Both people I've charged so far for mentee(again without knowing them) have leveled to 85 fairly quickly. I'll leave it at that.
Mentor is cheap day by day, and more free mentors are around; after a few weeks, most mentors will be free. System is made so the mentee has the control, indeed, if a mentee is not satisfied with mentor login, mentee can break contract, without penalty, and join a new one, mentor get penalty. Yes, free mentor is the way to go
You just gave the exact reason why people charge for mentoring. It's not greed, it's cause people are tired of getting scammed (using the word loosely) by low levels looking for mentors, then dropping them or quitting/rerolling leaving them with a 7 day penalty.
Also, Mentees try to make you keep your toon logged in 24/7 or they drop you. Keeping your toon logged in all weekend when you aren't even playign the game is disingenuous to other people trying to log in during peak times.
Mentor your alts and boxed buffers for free. Charge others. They aren't worth the trouble. All you need is an EM 79+ and a Feoh Wizard and you can literally PL your own Mentor Coin with a second (free Account) auto-following you. Truly Free, right?
In fact, I don't even bother to consider people < 76 LF Mentor.
I mentor'd two ppl and both thanked me for helping them with tips, some newb gear, and a bit of PL, so keep in mind I have had good experiences. With that said, most mentess act like ********s because the system design allows them to. The concept of making them pay is just a counter-balance to their ability, and wide spread propensity, to screw their mentors.
PS- the only ppl offering to pay on Chronos are some heroes lf noobs to do 75-85 in a few days. It's like an offered bonus to hurry the **** up, and tbh it makes me think there is some exploit they are in a rush to abuse, because otherwise there isn't much in that NPC that is worth paying ppl for. I only mentor alts or friends now, and short of meeting a really nice newbie, anyone else would be paying.
mentee: lf mentor!
lvl 86+: hi ill mentor you!
mentee: ok invite!
lvl 86+: i tried to invite u but u alrdy have a mentor?
mentee: oh yes hes been offline for 10 minutes so let me kick him and u can invite me.
I understand why people want people to pay, and in most cases they are valid. Alot of the "new" people that came to Lineage 2 when f2p came about, came with an attitude, and feel that they should have everything given to them on a silver platter. Some of the people that came are very nice people, but it's these few people that have that attitude that ruin it for everyone else.
I understand why mentors what to charge, and it is their right to charge. That being said, im still holding out for a free spot. Im a casual player that only plays when im not working, and at maybe 3-4 hours at a time, as I have a life outside L2. Ive soloed my Duelist to 78, my SD sub to 77.9 (all pre GoD) and now im leveling my 2nd sub (now 56) all solo. Untill the initial rush for a mentor dies down and more free spots open, im content to solo with either potions, or newbie buffs (on sub).
Btw im on Naia for you nice people out there, that dont care how fast your mentee lvls...hint hint

Yes, free mentor is the way to go
I thought Mentors were gonna be free a month or two ago. How long is it gonna be? :)
One of my former mentees, when asking me to mentor him, asked if I would be online 24/7 for him. We both agreed to be online 24/7 so we could both get mentee/mentor buffs, with the stipulation that **** happens and that we might get d/ced or for some other reason not be able to be online sometimes, but we would try to get back online as soon as we could.
Then, he asked if his friend could be my mentee, as well. We agreed under the same terms.
After about 4 days, the first mentee stopped logging in, and I had to delete him.
His friend stuck around, but took his **** time levelling. A friend of mine who was rerolling lapped him in levels and eventually graduated while the other mentee was seemingly stuck at level 67.
Whenever I got d/ced or had to momentarily relog, I would invariably get PMs complaining about it, no matter how briefly I was offline.
Otherwise, I was online 24/7 as required by our agreement, despite him never staying online for more than a few hours a day.
Then, Christmas time rolled around. I told him that I wouldn't be online for two weeks for the holidays. He was seemingly fine with that.
I come back from the two-week vacation to find that he had dropped me as a mentor.
After a couple days back, I get a PM from him, asking to be my mentee again.
This time, I told him not to expect me to be online 24/7, as he didn't stay online 24/7 for me before.
Of course, after a few days during which getting disconnected had become more common for me (around the time of the light event), he left me again.
If mentoring people for free results in a 2/3 chance of having to put up with this prima-donna ******** attitude, I'd rather just mentor an alt for the xp bonus.
I have over 20 mentees, some lvl some dont, some i kick some i keep, im on 24/7 only no on when server comes down, still i have people leave because i dont power lvl them, because the wanna reroll and wanna play another toon, because a friend said that they could be their mentor and a long list of reasons why i get stuck with a 7 day penalty.
The mentoring system was made to mainly help ppl lvl fast so they could reach 85 and be part of the awakened group and in theory therefore enjoy the game more.
Problem came when the mentees started taking advantage of this system to randomly drop a mentor who isnt on because theyre at work after server maintenace, or cus they relog to another toon for 2 minutes, they die when the mentor crashes and they get so mad they leave and again another long list.
Atm there are people who run around asking for mentor, get one, inmediatly drop them and give them a 7 day penalty and keep runing around lf the next person to do this to.
That is why people charge a fee, for those people who have no intention of doing this im sad to say it suxs for you, but the people who mentor didnt ask to get screwed over either.
Until ncsoft decides to solve this particular system people will keep charging and other people will keep leaving for random reasons because they have no penalty.
Thats why im saying that the system is wrong! The system has to be like clan system, 24hs penalty to the mentor if he expell or 24hs to the mentee if he dismiss ;)
How does one honor a contract if it isn't possible to log in to game? Chronos has become a monday to Friday server, and even then log in is tenuous. I have not been able to log in the last two weekends. I have been relagated to playing on Bartz on weekends, while the other, higher level toons, sit idle on Chronos. As well disconnects are still an issue for me. For that reason i have not sought out a mentor, although I have seen the value of the buffs when a few thoughtful players buffed the heck out my character, without me asking.
If im out of the game 3 days for w/e reason, are you telling me you or anybody else in the game won't quit me?
Sorry noone buys that bullshiet. Unless it's close friend.
I wouldn't, but then again I'm not greedy, I would consider dropping a mentee if it's been close to two weeks, see I realize that RL thing happen and that you can't always be on or might not be able to get online to let me know so my tolerances are much higher than the average ADDD addled kid that plays
I also don't charge because I think it's stupid and a scam, many people have a variety of BS reasons to charge but it's just simple greed or a scam

If you only try to log in 2-3 time an hour you will never log in, this last weekend with TW and sieges, the longest it took was maybe 5 minutes, and that was Sunday about an hour before first siege, heck even during the siege our Clan leader DCd twice and was able to practically get right back in both times

That is why i don't take randoms, if they want me mentoring, they gotta earn my trust somehow. People just prefer the easier way of "trust" which is insurance.
I say yes to whatever the market will bear. It's the L2 way. If someone is willing to pay for something, someone will be willing to sell it.
Edit: although I think charging for buffs is stupid but whatever.

Much more than 2 or 3 times, perhaps 30 or more, early in the morning, afternoon and late evening. There is a limit to how many times I will attempt to log in, and that will vary. There have been times it took more than 50 attempts, but I am no longer willing to waste that much time to log on and perhaps get disconnected without being able to get back in. There needs to be a queing system, and perhaps a bounce measure for inactive players if the servers are full. There are hundreds of "players" taking up space and not playing, just clogging up the towns.
i say no to free mentee slots. i will only be giving mine out to friends unless someone pays.
i have given 10 free mentee slots out and gave the people 2 weeks to lvl, only 1 turned out to be someone who actually played. the rest were inactives that basically took a spot for no reason, resulting in a penalty for me.
im sorry, but i'll vote no to free mentee slots. if u dont want to pay for a slot then so be it, but jsut like u have the option to pay or not pay for a slot, i have the option to charge or not charge.

It isn't all about the Mentee. It's also about the Mentor. They get benefits too. The Mentor Coin allow them to Attribute their higher grade gear when they get there, Enchant it. Change Attribute on Weapons, get Accessory Lifestones, things like that.
You want to level up fast? Well, I want to gear up fast. Super Casual players need not apply. This game has never been good for the uber casual and once you get to 86 and lose the Mentor XP bonus you'll see what I'm talking about.
I only had issues with ungrateful mentees that I didn't charge.
Mentees should either buy and respect or mentors can just power level alts with full vitality and get their coins and have +10% any time they want too.
And i want to say again for 3rd time in this thread its ok for me to pay for someone to mentor me..... I manage to go lvl 77 without a **** mentor ok guys all my money is now 17,893,312
can someone tell me how many time i need to find the rest 13-23kk that ppl ask to ment me????
Holly crap 30-40kk for mentoring.....
No ty if at 80 will not find a mentor i will buy nice runes and some discovery packs or something and i will not give to any mf my coins so put your mentoring where you know ppl because i really wanted to pay something that i could pay ..........
For some reason I can't be bothered getting mentees, I find it too much :D
My experience:
3 Mentees, I added them all for free, same day, they were shouting in town.
Levels: 45, 45, 51
Kicked one at level 69 - he was 6x for 3 weeks.
One left at 76 (I think) - not sure about reason, I think he started another alt.
Last one left at 85 - /cryface, I think he switched to give his IRL friend the coins, which I have no problem with.
After this experience I find it more convenient/relaxing playing my own alt for coins - that are not that big of a deal after you get what you need (Attribute Change Cry in my case, to make 300 weap bit more cheap).

I Agree.
I waited patiently for a Mentor for 2 weeks, till i finally was able to find one. All was well till my mentor stopped logging in...for a week...After repeated Mails and posts, I had to grudgingly drop my old mentor. A shame..truly (I think my mentor got banned lol)
Mentees also have this idea of 'gimme gimme gimme' they drop you at the drop of the hat.
Considering the game doesn't exactly have the most stable code, (you can dc for no apparent reason) and most people are not using automated bots to relog, suffice to say, that Mentors have it harder than Mentees.
Mentors have to satisfy 3 whiny brats about 'being online 24/7' and there is no guarantee to the Mentor that said whiny brats dont leave you at 99.9% to give 2k+ of Mentee Coins to a close friend or clannie.
So yeah, 20m to charge for Mentee Slots is way too cheap. In fact, Mentee slots should be charged higher, 5m per level with a non refundable deposit of 20m.
On the other hand, Mentors who scam their Mentees are destroying the proverbial goose that is laying the golden egg.
Well, I give free mentor to anyone who seems "normal" after a few lines of chat. I try to leave my char online 24/7 for them.
Gave mentor to 6 ppl:
* 2 morons cancelled just bcos. No excuse, they just canceled it. Didn't stop playing or anything, just "bcos" was he reply.
* Another one is lvl 70 for like ever. He does log in and "play" often, but his lvl is the same.
* 2 others are normal lvling and playing guys. And these are fine.
* 1 is a friend of mine.
To sum up, why ppl charge for mentee slots? So morons don't go around canceling "just bcos" while there are ppl who rly do want a mentor, who will play and lvl up and will actually use it.
So far I had more time on penalty for cancellations than real mentees.
If you can't afford the service you don't get serviced. Level the old fashion way and earn some Adena and maybe next time you won't waste so much time begging for something you want... you will just buy it.
If you can't afford the service you don't get serviced. Level the old fashion way and earn some Adena and maybe next time you won't waste so much time begging for something you want... you will just buy it.
Even then, the Old Fashioned way is like 3x faster than what he had to endure, when level 79 by itself took as long as 1-86 does these days...
