New to Lineage II ;p

I wasn't exactly sure if you guys had a welcoming committee or not,
but here's my plea. as of late i have been playing
Classic EverQuest (Project 1999)
World of Warcraft Retail - on Tichondrius
and various other single player games that just don't seem to satisfy.
my attention has drawn to this game namely for the new "Truly free" to play aspect, and also the fact that years and years ago, i seen a 2-3page review of this game in PC gamer, needless to say it looked stunning, but.
i am looking for some serious entertainment with a decent community,
something different, with an end game goal in mind.. at least until Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2, heh. so, down to race/class selection,

i've basically narrowed down my first choice to either "Archer"
"Summoner" or the ever elusive "Healer".
perhaps even "Enchanter" depending on how the server looks,
i haven't yet picked one to play, but any insights, or tips would be most welcome. maybe even a cookie cutter build to work with.
thank you, and hey. xP
Ah yes, i have to say, my first play through, i need a class that will work well in both demanding solo situations and also benefit a party nicely.
leaning towards the Darkelf as a racial.
Since you're new it's on you to pick class and learn to play it.
You can start with any Support Class also called "Buffers"(Those are Blade Dancer,Sword Singer,Elven Elder,Shilen Elder,Prophet,Warcryer and Overlord,by the way these are 2nd classes,at 4th Class they all became Iss Enchanter).
Or Archers which are really easy to play(Hawkeye,Moonlight Sentinel,Phantom Ranger,Arbalester(Arbalester is Kamael Archer which uses Crossbow but i would not reccommend it to you for the start)for the 4th Class they all become Yul Archer).
You can also check this guide it may change your mind:

And yea i forgot to say Blade Dancer and Sword Singer are Fighters, other Support Classes are Mages.
I wouldn't really recommend an Enchanter class since there are literally TONS of Iss Enchanters, at least on Naia and Chronos. If you pick up one of the 3 new servers the demand of live Enchanters could be much more satisfying (in terms of getting invited in parties), but I'm not sure since I play on Naia.

Summoners are excellent solo characters, but beware that the human and light elf summoners are more demanded that the dark elf one (although the Mass Phantom Cubic is extremely useful for melee parties and Phantom Summoner's demons are physically stronger than cats and unicorns). However this point is valid until 3rd class transfer; I rarely see Wynn Summoners in parties, I can't get the reason because they're basically party rechargers, debuffers and DDs.

By the way Shillien and Elven Elders become Aeore Healers, not Iss Enchanters.
In terms of demand healers are always welcomed in parties, especially after Awakening; the demand of healers and tanks for random parties for Harnak, Teredor, SoA daily and stuff like that is so high that I often get invites as soon as I take a look at party matching :)

Oh i missed that,SE and EE are Aeore Helares, though they have a lot of buffs,by the way thanks :)

If you connect results of this poll

with fact that typical party in l2 consists of 2x helaer, 1x tank, 1x enchanter, 3x anything else
and then do some simple math on those numbers, you will come to conclusion, that if you want to find parties with ease, there are two classes to consider: tank or healer, with tanks beeing little higher on demand/rarity list.

Healer is great and extremely satisfying class to play, but solo exp ability is close to zero (though it doesn't matter, cause you will always find party).
Also remember, that ATM game starts on lvl 86, 1-85 is a form of tutorial and class ballance, exp ability etc below 86 is irrelevant to anyhting.
well thanks for the replies, and that link. nifty heh, which servers are the new servers anyhow? i'd like to get in on the freshest, im about ready to pick one now.

That is because people still have this generic idea that summoners were only good for mass cubic and party buff, which won't happen after 4th class done (since party buff is replaced by sonatas and mass cubics disapear- not even sure why they didn't keep this feature). People prefer solid DDs, cause they're simply ignorant as to what summoner can do now. Gladly not all are this ignorant and prefer a summoner to any DD available. For example, summoners make it possible so that you can do teredor with just 1 healer.

I did teredor with one healer and w/o summoner! :D Was hard on MP though ;P

@NenshouStar
New servers are Bartz, Shilen and Magmeld, I don't remember which one is the newest though.

Well obviously there are people that can manage better than others:D

In fact I love summoners! I'm even about to sub one :p Also, the Wynn Summoners make party MP management a breeze between Rebirths.
I'd gladly take any good summoner if I'm the party leader.
I was hoping more people would think that way.;)
Actually thats probably something on Naia but on Chronos I've see many parties asking for one summoner (for harnak or teredor) and if not, a summoner is always welcome. There are lots of wynn summoners that arent great (noob players) but some who know how to play and have decent to great gear they are also very solid DD's. Still tank is #1 on demand list, followed by healers, sometimes even DDs (decent) are hard to find... and you can find iss everywhere.
