Email about Updating Password

As part of Gamer Safety Week, an email was sent from NCsoft Support ([email protected]) on February 15, 2012, urging our players to update their account passwords at regular intervals. The subject line for this email was, "Update your password. Keep your account safe."

We understand that you may be suspicious of this kind of email due to the large number of phishing scams that occur. We recommend that any time you update your account information, you link to your account via our website, http://ncsoft.com. This way you can be sure that you're really accessing our site and not the site of a malicious third party.

For more tips for keeping your accounts safe, check out our "Six Top Tips to Stay Safe" that we posted as part of Gamer Safety Week: http://us.ncsoft.com/en/playsmart/.
Wow that email is perfect for scammers to spoof..... GGoing once again NCWest amazes us with thier foresight.....
I know (hope) it wasn't you Sace, but what on earth are the decision makers smoking? Send e-mail reminders by all means, but don't include links and tell customers to click on things in mails, it's corporate suicide.
Time for some more blind rage. Wish I had popcorn at work.

Changing your password for the sake of changing your password is nothing more than security theater. The only time you should change your password is when it has been or has potentially been compromised.

My password has been the same for years. I don't see any reason to change it often, or ever. Also, I have never been "hacked" in any game and I have not the slightest fear of it ever happening :)
I have played this game for 7 years. I have loved it the majority of that time. I think the current NCWest staff manages to miss manage everything they touch. I have hoped it would get better but then you see things like this.... lol

Then you're probably not a top player, not in a top clan, not using bot software, not playing private servers (or downloading their junk), not visiting exploit websites, not sharing your accounts, not buying adena, not sharing PCs/connections and not leaving your PC unprotected.

Oh and you probably have a decent password.

All these things factor into the chance of a person being hacked. And since many of these actions are done so often (and on the rise), people are really allowing themselves to be hacked. It's rare that people get hacked without being part of it themselves.
