AL isn't really better. SM has some good pets below 79 that can help it, but most of your time will be spent at 80-85 (pre-R Grade), naturally, where the EM is clearly superior to the others.
EM is the overall best for leveling up to 85. It can easily solo some good high level XP places, and is the best summoner for running through the quest on PI.
Only issue you may have is that it's tied to Light Elf race, and for subs you cannot SUB a Dark Elf Class on a Light Elf character (and vice versa). Humans are more open in that respect.
SO... Long Term I'd say Human is superior (Sub Class Choices). But if you don't care too much for that, the EM is the superior choice.

P.S. Why on earth does subclass choice affect anything? The only reason would be if you wanted a Feoh sub to keep empowering echo. For all other classes Light elf or alternative has the best pre-awakened skills to keep.

lol, people saying that warlock only has a cat or that humans only have a debuff cancel racial they clearly hate human or are clueless.
as i matter of fact, i advise you to never go light elf as a summoner, there is almost no benefit after 85, despite the fact that 79-85 they are faster but as a summoner you can kill anything with any kind of pet and 85 is not hard. what im saying is that after 85, only that passive that increase p.crit/m.crit matter from elf, rest doesnt matter. human have 3 good racial skills for you, dark elf has 5. another thing is, elf has the lowest p.atk/m.atk and summoners share that with summons, in this case human being better than elf and dark elf being better than human. human is overall balanced but you cant go wrong with dark elf DD.
if you have a stone of destiny, best would be to make a summoner from kamael, if not then one from dwarf. i would advise for orc but that race is suitable for tanks and and maybe warriors
