Solution to overpopulation

General Discussion Started Last reply 30 posts
I know everyone says get rid of bots and it will fix the issue but in all honesty this game is 8 years old and for 8 years ncsoft has been fighting a losing battle. with the game going f2p its gotten worse and wont work. you cant get rid of the bots. Instead get rid of ingame shops...with the addition of the market place there is no need for ingame shops..they cause tons of clutter and make it hard to move around. Also they cause lag loading them all in. Finally they take up space on the server. At any given time there are easily 200-300 ingame shops going across aden. Get rid of them and that will free up necessary resources. Also auto kick players who havent made any movements in over 15 mins. Between these two things the server population problems will go away.
How much thought have you given to this suggestion?

Secondly, how much time have you spent using search function to discover that something like that has been suggested countless times in the past 2 months?
In these last 5 years, haven't read any forum post?
:D
The solution for the full server is to rise the server of Naia back to 6200 and continue with the bot baning... I see less and less bot trains in Naia. Also some 24/7 botters in MOS disappeared
OP you soo funny :p.

Easyer way, you know that msg that pops up in ur msg screen saying youv been playing for too long please take a rest or what ever.

Maybe Nsoft should put that msg in effect and auto log players after playing 8hrs stright or 3 hrs or what ever the time it takes for that msg to kick in
There is !NO! overpopulation. Locations for players 88-92 are emptier every week. Less and less legit and actually live ppl play this game every week. And logging is easier and easier every week. For me 5-10 tries during prime times lately. Do you really want to have a half-dead server? Imho anything under 4000 is not good.
It's true, this weekend I had almost no difficulties in logging in, and that's siege time now...

yes...and I hope half of your clan gets kicked for playing to long right during siege times..great idea.....

You have a point. Is not just about the overall population but how many players at certain levels are available to construct parties.

New L2 has a problem where pretty much everything to 85 is solo XP. With ISS buffs you can solo even group zones which means that there is little point in grouping there. After 85 is when the parties start and is not such an issue because legitimate players tend to slow down around 86/87 so the numbers are still healthy - but there is still a significant amount of players botting.

After 88, I can imagine that the ratio of real to automated players (on a relatively new server like Bartz) becomes a problem.

So, rather than harp on about overpopulation it would be more appropriate to talk about fixing the real players to automated players ratio.
But still the buy/sell stores should be done away with since this can be done through the auction house, theoretically. Craft shops sure, in a designated area in cities. Really just moving around some cities is so frustrating that I simply avoid them altogether.

Then they can start auto logging toons that are inactive for 2 hours like other games do so people who actually play the game can actually log in.

No one said everyone was supposed to like the solution, so stop acting like it's a bad thing just cause you don't agree with it. Something needs to be done. Something is wrong when you're buying items from a in-game cash shop that decrease in timer when you're logged off, but you are literally locked out of the game for hours at some times due to overpopulation which has a lot to do with bots, shops, and boxed buffers that sit online doing absolutely nothing for hours at a time.

Maybe when it doesn't cost you millions to list an item.
I got a better solution, quit! :D
Solution to overpopulation ?

Simple, go back to pay to play. = no more full servers. lol

But really, when ncsoft announced the addition of an auction house,
that is just what is was said to be. Just another option for people
to use to sell, if they didn't want to stay connected & use the private
shop.

Auction House was meant to be another option. not a replacement.

ncsoft should of just:

1...Closed account creation on servers that were getting close to full.
2...then ban people botting on those full servers.
3...re-enable account creation again when server is no longer at max
4...open new servers if needed.
5...repeat steps 1-4

But no....that would make too much sense for Ncsoft.

NCsoft is not intersted in sense, they prefer dollars. :D

People need to realize that banning bots will not stop them. For every bot banned a few others take it's place.

Not to mention bot programs are getting easier to use and harder to catch.

If NCsoft cared about the bots they would go after the developers/distributors of the software. But they don't, because, like Piotress said, they are only interested in profit.

Today I reported/killed a bot who told me he's never been banned because he purchases a lot of items from the L2 Store. And sadly, I can imagine that would be true at this point.

If NC closed the two full servers to new accounts then banning bots would help a lot.

Then MAYBE YOU should SUGGEST they LOWER the cost to list an item?

Just an idea, buddy.
If NC closed the two full servers to new accounts then banning bots would help a lot.
Yep but then people's friends cannot play on the same server and get helped by them, which could potentially cut into their revenue stream (L2 Store).

I don't see it happening.

They won't close servers. But what they could do is limit characters per player. Currently, anyone can make multiple accounts using the same email to register them and get past the 2 character limit without effort.

It would be wise to make master accounts with a name/phone#/email that cannot be used again. And after confirmation, would truly limit a player to 2 characters on the server.

This might also help with the bot issue.

dont ya mean 7 toons per account ?

I have been here since prelude on Devianne / Chronos & our accounts
always had 7 toons per account max.

They reduced the amount to 2 characters per account with the F2P update. Later they lifted that restriction from Shilen/Magmeld/Bartz. I'm not sure if they've done that with Chronos/Naia.

You probably still have 7 because you've been playing for such a long time. But for a while myself and all the people who created new accounts after the F2P launch were stuck with only 2 character slots.
Doesn't matter how many characters per account. You can create additional accounts cause the game are free. Just put them all under the same master account. Limiting account character slots is useless in a game where practically everything is tradeable and there is no subscription. People will just make more accounts to circumvent it. And really, more accounts is actually superior in a free game to putting everything on the same account...
Let NCSoft continue to make make profits, it is about keeping NCSoft funding our beloved MMO. Without this increased population (four times pre GoD release) they will not continue to develop more releases. We all know the population will naturally reduce to a manageable level and all will access whenever they choose.
horray another post about the same.

Once again the problem with server overpopulation as you call it would be easily fixed if instead of remaking the same post over and over in the forum about how players could be restricted, accounts could be restricted and players could be in this or that way screwed over, you would all focus your attention on ncsoft and them doing their jobs.

Im pretty sure all the people who have come to game from a private servers didnt spend their nights looking for ways to fix the server at the expense of other players, if something didnt work you would e-mail the server owner and tell him/her, yo wtf fix this. The principle is the same. Just out of curisity of all the private server players that have come to official due to ftp, in your server, how many bots were there?
Glad I play on Bartz! Always easy to log into that server.
* Put teleporter on a stone higher up somewhere so people can't be in the way (24/7)

* Put Beginner help buffer also on something so people can't be in the way

*Get rid of private shops (There is auction house now, use it)
- If you don't get rid of Private shops atleast have a place for them, not in the middle of towns

No one will stop using private shops until:
1. Make AH free (P-shops are free).
2. Allow package sales on AH.
3. Allow crafting on AH.

Also people using p-shops for buy shops. AH doesn't take this into consideration. AH is nice for some things but doesn't come close to the flexibility (and price) of p-shops.
