Ok Ill leave names out but Sace is this the status of botting and the outlook by the players.
War gets declared on an ally clan, their clan leader tries to contact the leader of the power clan that declared on them. Clannie goes he is online but he is afk botting at the moment and won't be back to his pc till around blah blah time.
In game chat not even trying to hide it anymore.'
Then a clan tries to ask me about an ally. I say my clan is 100% against using bots programs or any cheat programs... He goes well nevermind then good luck to you.
people cheat because this is a 10 year old game that was developed with the mentality that all players would grind by hand 18+ hours a day just to have fun in said game.
its the players choice if they want to cheat or not and they take all the risks in doing it. L2 has been this way for years.
the real question is, why do people even waste their time caring about people who cheat anymore? its not like this is some new developement that all of a sudden came up.
-Because people have been playing this game for years..and they still cannot be on same "level" as botters, and all the experience you have is rendered useless against players who have toons 10 levels above you or gear that can make the biggest noob 2 shot you.
-Because they flood xp/farm spots, and the game is already running out of spots for everyone between 85-92 since the developers had the most idiotic idea of having l2 super cramped after 85 and the bots surely aren't helping anyone, they're a nuisance taking our spots.

ive played since prelude and never had an issue staying up with people and was perma hero for about 14 months on teon/naia/chronos. it comes down to who do u know and how well do u understand the game mechanics to maximize your xp.
the people who cant keep up are doing something wrong if they are honestly playing more than 1-2 hours a day.

Not everyone is willing to put the time/effort into keeping up with bots. Casual players can't enjoy this game anymore because bots/cheaters surpass them effortlessly.
Then these casual players become botters/cheaters as well because it's not very hard nor is it time consuming. And they can still enjoy the more fun aspects of the game.
NCwest made it so that their servers are the easiest to play on, but that only added to the problem because bots can get to the top even faster now and banning them does not matter, due to how fast they can level up another character.
I would say the ncsoft has kind of done this to themselves. They waited until the game was literally dead (2 servers) before they rethought their strategy. They pull the wool over everyone's eyes and show you how "easy" it is to get to 85. "The years you put into your toon have been eradicated because we have made it so easy any idiot with a few weeks can easily get to 85+++ playing an hour or two a night.....well even gear you"
Then people ding 85 and celebrate YAY i have a lvl 85!!! Now they start working on the gear and start moving to 85+ and realize all ncsoft did was repackage the game and make level 1 equivalent to level 85.
They devalued the old gear and made it worthless throw away crap so the mindset was on 85+ which i promise is as brutal as 1-85 ever was.
Overall its the same **** game with a slightly more carebear outlook. They made it free to play so people have scores of bot trains running through the very limited areas to xp, making that solo dude who is trying to play w/o bots even more stressed and frustrated when every mob he tries to get to is dead a min before he gets there by afk nukers and archer.
id tell him to go solo elsewhere but many of the old solo spots are now *%++some even 90++++
Botting in my opinion, is a direct result in the ****** grind ncsoft refuses to ease. That's why I quit
the people who cant keep up are doing something wrong if they are honestly playing more than 1-2 hours a day.
Then how do explain new players having over 2 billions adena and some old players can't even reach that? I surely could not go over a billion unless i bot or get extremely lucky on every soa daily.
Just check on sel mahum, each bot theres makes around 50-100kk per day, every day of the week withotu much investment. You telling me a legit can keep up with that?! A legit with a life.
Lol. I agree that they moved the goalpost. They basically moved level 76 to 85, though, not level 1 since it was always rather easy to get to 76 an the grind didn't really get ridiculous until level 79 which was 4x level 78 just by itself.
There's a huge XP wall going from 84 to 85 and another factorable one going from 85 to 86, and it's just like old Lineage II from then on.
To teh OP, the person in game was probably joking and the clan leader was AFK in the clan hall. It's pretty dumb to complain about something like that when you didn't even bother to check teh validity of that claim. Heresay will not get anyone banned, nor should it be taken seriously.
It's pretty sad that a PvP-oriented game (what it was intended to be, anyways) has been hampered for years by the ridiculous amount of XPing required to get to levels wehre you are useful.
I remember when A Graders could seige against S Graders and it wasn't all that bad. Ever Since the Interlude and especially Gracia and later updates they've been moving the goalpost up way too much for average players to keep up.
And seriously you need more than 1-2 days a week to keep up with botters Hyperlite. Bots XP 24/7 so even if you're doing SoA for 4-5 hours a day a Swamplands bot train will pass you up and stay ahead of you until their MOBs are giving XP penalty because they're on XPing all day and all night. Theoretically a bot train there can XP until their almost level 90 because there's a high and low side.
That being said. Bots aren't perma camping many of the better group spots now (Harnak, SoA, DVC depending on your level range) so unless you refuse to cooperate with other players you should not be getting griefed that hard by bots. Get in a group. You will level faster than a Swamplands bot train *while you're online*.
However, you will have to put in 1000% more effort and they will pass you up overnight while you sleep :(

This I am not too sure about, most "casual" players could care less about what the top pvp bots are doing. The casual players log in for a few hrs a day just to have fun with eachother. Run a few parites, maybe do a raid or two or pvp for a fort. Casual players don't have the desire to bot up to the top as fast as they can just to pvp vs a different type of bot.
By casual we mean casual by playtimes/time investment, not casual by "ambition."
As in:
HardCore: Gamer with no job or a gaming-capable computer at work that is always playing/grinding/etc. Botters who play to win, etc.
Casual: People with average lives who would play hardcore if they could, but have responsibilities that usurp their gaming. They can only afford 1-3 hours in a day no matter how badly they want to compete at the upper eschelon.
That doesn't make the casual a carebear. It just makes his platfimes casual, becuase he has other things to do. He or she - no offense intended :P

I disagree. Lineage 2 has always been a competitive game and casuals aren't able to do the things you mentioned because of bots. Bot parties infest all the exp zones and make it harder for casuals to level. The top players who bot will always be geared and ready to do raids while casuals may not be. And PvP is out of the question for casual players because of not only programs (that aid in PvP) but the gear/level advantage that bots have over these players.
In summary, a legit casual player will have far less superior gear/level than a botter (even if they too are casual) in a lot more time.
So you see, bots will always be ahead of casuals and if the casuals don't start to use these programs they are forever going to be at the bottom. And I don't believe that players would stick around if they're constantly being dominated, especially if it's for a few hours a day. This is evident from the huge decline in players before the F2P release.

+1
l2 is about having fun, and most of fun comes from competition, if your competition is outright cheating their way in your face, i don't see why one has to put up with it. And therefore, to withstand competition people start bot OR ally with bots to get in safe zone( garanteed gear/income) but without actually doing anything wrong or they simply move on to next game like mentioned.
Why must everyone cheat at a video game?
People cheat in different video games because they want to be the 1st. They want to kill anyone without any problems and competition. They prefer to achieve level cap as fast as possible and skip all midgame content to have "fun". In reality when they achieve top level they start to cry on forums/game etc about "boring and empty games".
Don't like the grind go play wow, don't rationalize your cheating.
Who is trying to rationalize cheating? You're looking pretty bad with this post.
And what does WoW have to do with it. Notwithstanding the fact that it has superior end-game PvP and gameplay in general to this game?
The issue with Lineage II isn't not long it takes to level, it's that it's a monotanous game to play.
NCSoft tried to mitigate that a bit with the Awakening class designs, but it's still that way.
Some people have no issues pressing the same 2-3 buttons for 10-12 hours a day 5-6 days a week. Others would rather go outside. That's why people do it. I recently leveled an SE to 85. I basically pressed 1-2 buttons from 79 to 85. That's it. That was NOT fun.
If Ventrillo and TeamSpeak didn't exist I doubt anyone would be calling leveling up in this game fun. What's fun is the interaction with other players. The game itself is boring as all hell.
It's not just about being first. Some people simply don't see the benefit in spending that much time tethered to their computer. There isn't much benefit from leveling. Everything you want in this game must be bought either with Adena or with real cash (NC Coin).
If leveling spots were more diverse and people weren't forced to spend potentially months leveling in the same spots I think most people would not get burnt out and turn to cheating. I had some mentors I had to block and drop because they told me they got tired of LFGing or getting terrible Adena drops (making upgrading their gear an impossibility because in Swamplands leveling can barely pay for itself) in Swamps and are doing "the bad thing" now. That's what some of them call it, I guess.
The game is free now. What's stopping them from just running a 7 man bot train probably not even using shots and using free gear to level their mains and farm adena? And they'll do it faster than everyone else and probably never get banned cause all the bufoons in this game are using "path to awakening" and disregarding other good XP spots in favor of the linear/crowded progression NCSoft has handed them?
1. This is not a game for casual players.
2. People have lives (friends, family, work, school)
3. This game was designed for korean grinders.
4. Americans do not like to grind 18+ hours a day for a few hours of fun a week.
Thus people bot. They take the risk of losing their account in exchange for not losing their lives to have a little fun in game every now and then.
Realistically, if it were impossible for people to bot this game would have such a low population it'll be impossible to continue funding and will inevitably close down. Why? Simply, grinding is very boring and not a positive factor in anything. Also NcSoft knows this as well as most players.
Why some of you don't know this is well, beyond me. Like someone said earlier, botting has been around since the game started.
Some people use bots during pvp to give them an edge. Fine, those legit players who actually know what they're doing have no problem beating them. Those who do come to the forums and cry about machines beating them in a videogame. It resembles a grown man/woman crying over the internet because he/she can't beat the computer at chess. Its humorous. :)

When I was off work I played everyday and pretty much all day with breaks here and there. Now I play a few evenings a week if I'm not too tired and given there's people in clan on or I manage to get in a random. Do I worry about the botters and what level they are? No I don't,but what does annoy me is that they take up places like Sel Mahum's collecting not only drops, but quest items so they can gain rewards to sell. All to often the bots will pull your camps or ks you. Sure I've gone red on them because I was annoyed, but it didn't really accomplish much other than some random person running by killing you while you try to work off the karma so thus just causing yourself more interruptions to your farming. Unlike people flocking to the free game recently I've invested time into this game and I mean a lot of time since beta. Is it unfair that I have to put up with it? Yes,but it's not a new issue to me either. I also am no longer having to pay every month so you get what you pay for...nothing.

since F2P I doubt this to be true, have run through swamp/harnaks & soa often enough to know 65% are actual legit players which makes of quite a lot of real players out there..
To teh OP, the person in game was probably joking and the clan leader was AFK in the clan hall. It's pretty dumb to complain about something like that when you didn't even bother to check teh validity of that claim. Heresay will not get anyone banned, nor should it be taken seriously.

Trenshero i would believe if it wasn't the same ally that had over 20 member banned for exploiting spezion lol
Most annoying thing for me is not people botting, it's botting in your face and badly.
EVERY day theres ******** in the swamps KSing mobs on bot. So in your face and brash and completely stupid. At least in catas etc they were hidden away and if you found a room it was your room, bots had their own.
Shame High Five was great, really didn't need to bot to get good XP and drops, now it's gone back to the L2 of old where you need to bot or else you have to grind the same spot 10 hours a day for a month to make a level.
this is the first time one of your post disapoint me man :< but maybe I didn't understand you very well because english is not my language
there is a recent post somewhere by a korean player who explain how in korea they have parties going on for DAYS, replacing members as they have to go, even party leader gets to get replaced when he has to log, 18+ hours a day? stop this nonsense already, I'm not saying this can't be done but I doubt any ppl will ever make a game thinking "they have to play 18 hours a day", I might be wrong I don't know asian/korean culture
as for those talking about how you need to reach lvl 99 or endgame whatever you call it to start being usefull or to "matter" you just don't know what you are talking about, on Shilen there are no lvl 99 yet there are tons of wars going on and sieges/tw/fortress can still be fun for those taking part in them - no lvl 99, no 5/5 boss jewels (maybe?), nothing "endgame" related... yet the server is well alive (sorry if bad english :<), clans are flaming each other since day 1 (nice thing about L2 too), etc.
from my point of view ppl on US/EU servers have for too long been talking about how L2 requires you to play for hours non stop to "matter" in the game, this is just plain wrong and are just excuses for cheating (read bot), first bot their char to level then bot alts to make money then tell friends "just bot man... this is L2 blahblah", the community made the game as it is now (maybe NCSoft helped :x)
we quit L2 in C3 because we couldn't accept anymore to pay NCSoft because we didn't like the service, now it's free to play so we are back (obviously? we LOVE L2, it is by FAR the best PvP game ever even if it has tons of bugs), but even thou it's free to play some very good players already quit because competing against cheaters is just wrong, oh and don't say they quit because they couldn't beat those cheaters, truth is they actually beat them daily and were being called bots by those cheaters... roflzzzzz
sorry not quoting but some people said in this thread things about experience gain or something, I also think NCSoft should maybe lower experience needed to level up for us western players who failed at playing the game the way it's meant to be played because of culture or whatever, thing is it's just not working, do like popular private server, exp rate x3-4-5? no GM-Shop, bye bye cheaters

exactly..there are huge mistakes that ncsoft doing and just push u to bot..the game didn't get any real new update it just repeat the same all over..u may think by playing as normal u enjoin the game?how exactly that happens..bc from the last event everyone had free bsoe to use..and all i was waiting was the sieges which guess what..the botters had 4-5 lvls more better items and me as a normal players that was there just for the feeder..and when i though ncwest gonna do smth about the bots was already to late..i had a friend who use bot since first day..when i was 86 he was 90 when i had 50kk he had 700kk when i was burning my head to be the normal guy i was getting ks by bots..the new karma system wasn't helping at all for pk them..so i stay as normal guy..2month waiting ncwest to do smth..nothing change so i start to and guess what..3days ago i got perm ban..my friend still botting and it's on 94lvls now..so for a second i though ncwest doing smth until i check all my clients...i had 3 on same pt that time and what i found out was..the 2 acc that i didn't use any nccoins get banned the other one that i used like 10k didn't get(all of them was afk in same spot on same pc)...so u may think ncwest gonna clean them from the game one day...ya sure we hear enough..and in my case i'm 1000% sure for what they care...
thats why there it's not a program to protect
thats why there it's not answer in all of those topics
have hopes and wait them to fix it..GL
3days ago i got perm ban..my friend still botting and it's on 94lvls now..so for a second i though ncwest doing smth until i check all my clients...i had 3 on same pt that time and what i found out was..the 2 acc that i didn't use any nccoins get banned the other one that i used like 10k didn't get(all of them was afk in same spot on same pc)...
this my friend is quite troubling to me... I sincerely hope you are wrong :(

It's not the first time I hear this, and the rumors of this being true have been spreading quite fast the past few days.
I just really hope it's not the case because it would be seriously disappointing.

I really dought this is the case. I would say most ppl that buy NCcoins and bot would just start a new account if banned and do it all over again. They did it when the game was P2P so I don't see why most botters wouldn't try again and again to max out their lvl before they get banned.
Trenshero i would believe if it wasn't the same ally that had over 20 member banned for exploiting spezion lol
Exploiting instance timers is not the same as botting. Use your brain. And if it's what clan I think you're talking of the leader was most likely AFK in the CH or castle. Maybe we're not on the same page with that, though.
If you're gonna limit yourself to Swamplands then stop complaining about the bot trains there. Deal with it. There are like 5-6 good places to level 85-87/8 and the only place you see people complaining about here is Swamplands. I wanna throw up in my mouth. Swamplands is for bots and doing the daily quest. Go elsewhere. Other places are better.
To make swamplands worth a 1-10 hour grind session NCSoft would have to double or even triple the XP gain there to put it in line with the lower R grade levels. They added 14 levels in GoD. The lower end of those levels should not be taking the amount of grinding they do. It was stupid, just like the XP wall at level 79 when 85 was max level was stupid.
Swamplands is the new Hot Springs.
If NCSoft had locked Swamplands out to non-Awakened toons the way they did Harnak's (put it on some island behind a port NPC that required red tag and disabled Summons there), there would be less of an issue. Swamplands issues are exacerbated by the amount of Blue Tag Archer groups and nukers leveling there or getting PLed when there are whole continents devoted to their level ranges.
At a minimum NCSoft should have increase Dragon Valley to a level 85 leveling spot so that there was more room for the playerbase on a server to go, instead of just swamplands. But really, there are other places to go. Learn to make decent XP parties and that goes beyond "1 Tank/Healer/ISS and some DDs" too...

From all this post i understand you agree with bot/cheat program usage, even using them probably. You even laugh in our face because we can't beat the computer (again, probably you). Are you serious?
L2 is a Korean grinder and always has been, if players don't want to play it how it was intended then they should find another game instead of easymoding via automated levelling.
We all know why players bot and that is to get one-up on their enemy as level and gear plays a big part in PvP.
Botters don't advertise that they bot not because they are scared of getting caught (it is relatively low risk concerning NCWests efforts to deal with the issue so far) they just don't want to admit that went easymode.
The players that ask why should we care if some people are making their levels afk... I'll tell you, it is because:
a) they are too blatant these days and take up the best spots - my ****** spot (hihi summoner bots powerleveling more easymoders at best spots at Altar of Evil). What happened to the good old days where players tried to be less conspicuous and botted away in less populated zones?
b) botters don't participate. They stay in same party all day and rarely join groups. So when you're stood in Harkand looking for healer/tank.. guess what? They are at swampland botting their ***** off. Its a MMO ffs, and that starts at level 1 not at level 95+.
c) when you get your levels and gear and go to PvP - some of your enemies are higher level and better equipped because they cheated. It makes PvP an absolute farce. If I fight a legit guy higher level and well geared I will think 'fair play, that guy knows how to level and gear his character', when I fight someone who I know is a bot then I just think 'congrats to ******** or whatever program was used' because there is little to do with the players there. Pointless vs pointless.
d) it is just an easymode and carebear way of playing the game. You don't sign up for a marathon and let someone else do the running for you. Hands on or **** imo.
Finally, to pre-emptively quosh the usual 'yeah but if you ban bots the servers will be empty' - good! They aren't participating as it is now, they are just getting in the way and ruining PvP, there's nothing to lose in my opinion. Plus, if so many players were not allowed to bot away freely then perhaps more would play the game the way it is meant to be played - which would make for a better game for all of us.
Trenshero - were you not complaining about bots in TOI in another thread? :p
Don't take my posts out of context.
I merely made an observation that the OPness of the drains since the update to VR mechanics has caused a huge influx in the number of botted WC/OL toons people are leveling up to make Iss Enchanter buffbots. They are all over ToI on literally every floor, and its very disruptive to players there because with infinite mana those toons can tank a huge amount of mobs before they can be trained and MOBs up there leash so it's hard to train them to begin with. The only way to kill them is to find one in a room with a Bestian group and train them with that if possible, in many cases.
Those aren't a factor at Swamplands XP level because by then they've botted up to 85 and sit AFK except to buff the people who put them on a program to level.
I don't level in ToI, I only took an alt through there and I only have to level my alts to level 72 before they're in range to be Power Leveled with other toons so it's not much of an issue to me and nor are Swamplands bot trains. I only go there for the daily every other day or so.
ive played since prelude and never had an issue staying up with people and was perma hero for about 14 months on teon/naia/chronos. it comes down to who do u know and how well do u understand the game mechanics to maximize your xp.
the people who cant keep up are doing something wrong if they are honestly playing more than 1-2 hours a day.
We have this discussion for years. Bots are setting the bar on so ridiculously high level, that top 10% of server consists of 90% bots and 10% players like you.
If we get rid of bots, top 10% of the server will consist of 10% people like you (because they are not many) and 90% dedicated casuals.
How big % of people in 95+ level range is legit?
Problem is not that people can, or cannot keep up, but that the bar to keep up was set on artificially high level. Maybe if NC got rid of cheating in general (not only botting) 4-5 years ago, it wouldn't change ballance of servers 180 degrees, but it would make it easier to keep up and allow more people (and sometimes different people) to participate in top level competition.
If you can keep up with cheaters, that's great, more power to you. But beeing forced to compete with cheaters is not right situation.
I doubt he is wrong. What incentive does NCsoft have to ban paying customers.
i was thinking it's a mistake too..but when i rethink the situation i didn't found a reason to don't be that char banned too..the chars that i had on was a summoner and two enchanters..both of them was buffing and the time when the ban comes i was afk in all of them in a same pt in same zone..that for me means they catch me a other time or with a other way they see that i use program..last week i used all char in same pt and farming always together..so i can't found anything else to think..even the drops that they had was same on all char..and even lf we talk where do i keep all the money was on that enchanter and the day that i get ban i moved 1.1bil to the summoner and make them items..so on my mind comes the fact that are there more than 50% of players online using bot and both case of players bring money..and while ncwest know that they won't end up with 1-2servers again so they decide which one will get ban just to show we take some action..
ive played since prelude and never had an issue staying up with people and was perma hero for about 14 months on teon/naia/chronos. it comes down to who do u know and how well do u understand the game mechanics to maximize your xp.
Wait, weren't you among those who happily hopped on the bandwagon and joined the most infamous botclan in NA just to stay on the top?
"It comes down to who do you know", my ***...
Some people use bots during pvp to give them an edge.
It never ceazes to amaze me how many excuses a cheater can make up just to justify his urge to cheat.
You cheat, you are THE loser, period. It doesn't "give you an edge", it just shows how pathetic you are.
If you can't cope with the rules and conditions of the given game, if you think it's too hard, go play somewhere else, that's simple.
Why some of you don't know this is well, beyond me.
Why do you not realize that any kind of cheating destroys the very purpose of game, is beyond me.
A game is defined by the set of certain rules. If you break the rules you ruin the game for everyone. How hard is this to understand?
And don't even start with "it's just a video game... blah blah blah" because it will make you look like a 8 years old. You play versus other players, therefore you must obey the rules and respect the opponents. If you disrespect them (i.e., resort to cheating) just because you meet them in the virtual world actually says a lot about you as a person.
Those who do come to the forums and cry about machines beating them in a videogame. It resembles a grown man/woman crying over the internet
The use of the word "cry" in a serious discussion indicates typical mentality of an underage jerk.
You bust a kid for misbehaving, and the kid goes: "Waaaa why must you cry about it?!"
Again, how old are you?
We have this discussion for years. Bots are setting the bar on so ridiculously high level, that top 10% of server consists of 90% bots and 10% players like you.
I'm afraid my friend that Hyperlite has long lost his will to play "by hand" :D and so many others like him too and everyday I have to fight with close friend so they don't give in to cheating :( what's even more sad is most of the people botting are actually very capable and do know the game and most of the legit people don't have a clue what they are doing :o

I dare a gm to go for bot hunt at Mithril Mines on Shilen server....no w8 i double dare !!!
Its a hell of bots or bot partys there..
Yes i did report them
Yes the next day they were keep exping there
Yes and the next day was there
This story goes on like this
As you claim that you banned so many RTM and BOT accounts keep up the work by going a 5 mins round in mithril mines...thanx
EDIT:the title of theard is how dump botting get...YES its TRUE ppl leave 1 lvl bot on sillent valley to pick up drops...wow dump as hell
From all this post i understand you agree with bot/cheat program usage, even using them probably. You even laugh in our face because we can't beat the computer (again, probably you). Are you serious?
ps: your all post "Its humorous"
Its not that I agree with botting. I would much rather have strict enforcement. No temporary ban nonsense. You get caught botting you should get banned permanently.
When I first started playing I was a anti-cheating zealot. I assumed that NCsoft was making a good faith effort to stop cheating and I was trying to do my part to support fair play. The only thing it got me is a toon that was 10 levels lower than the top clans. Gradually, I come to realize NCsoft wasn't making an earnest effort to maintain a level playing field they were enforcing the TOS to maximize their revenue. If that meant honest players had be play things for high level botters so be it. The bottom line is except for Prelude and short periods in time when NCsoft actually policed their game it has been more beneficial to risk losing your account by botting up a character than leveling one legitly. That isn't going to change so long as NCsoft Korea insists on keeping a no-lifers grind on the Western servers.
NCsoft is not necessarily on the players side. They are on their bottom line's side.
All this will be history in 3 months,May with Tera launch NC will fall fall fall they can't keep ban accounts they gonna end up with 1 server and votes for siege times.

The botting is out of control. I have never seen it done so openly. Every place I go there are bots xp'ing away seemingly with no fear of being banned. People openly talk about it in chat. People setup shops in towns trying to sell accounts. I think this is probably the new L2. The current community of players doesn't bear much resemblance to the community at the height of the P2P days.
Wait, weren't you among those who happily hopped on the bandwagon and joined the most infamous botclan in NA just to stay on the top?
"It comes down to who do you know", my ***...
This is what i'm talking about. No "hero" player comes 100% legit, those people that you know are surely from top clans and every top clan does what? Cheat somehow, that's why they're top in L2. If they don't cheat, they are not considered TOP, it's simply as this. Because when we legits finally reach their level and gear, NCsoft launches expansiosn for levels and more rare gear that cannot be got in short time in a humanly way.

Definitely agree but that isn't only due to people from Private Servers. It's also due to the simple fact that you don't have to pay anymore. So botters can make as many bots as they like.
It has become an infestation to the point where if you're not a bot then you stand out at some places. 15 minutes after logging in I've already used up my Bot Reports for my character. It's pathetic. But the community can't be blamed because like many have stated in this thread, you have to bot to keep up with the bots or you can't play this game. Unless you don't mind constantly losing. If you play for the roleplay or whatever (which isn't a problem) but even that sucks since the game lore got screwed with the GoD update.
And no offense to the players who are anticipating Tera but it will never be what Lineage 2 once was. From what I've seen in gameplay footage it looks like a better version of Aion, which is a completely different style from Lineage 2. Does Tera even have sieges? The Highlight of L2 used to be the massive sieges with giant steampunk golems smashing walls and epic battles between powerful alliances.
Off topic: Lineage Eternal looks promising. Hope it's playable on tablets.
if they had 1 gm for every server and he would patrol lineage 2 each work day of the week for 8 hour shift he would ban so many people by just going tru a few lvlin spots
mos/loa/sel mahum/toi/walls of agro's all of these spots are top bot spots
any awaken char in old area is most likely a bot the exp u gain is utter **** only reason for awaken toon to be in old area is to powerlvl a non awaken toon if not then its most likely a bot
if i was gm for 5 days 1 day on each server u would see so many people cryin on forums all over the place
ncsoft did this once with gm spam he wiped out so many bots in few days ncsoft auto ban program still hasnt reached the amount of bans that gm spam did in 1 week
but hey i guess no1 from ncsoft wants to be a gm must be a dumb job
well id take that job if i get paid the same
**** easy mode lean back for 8hours and ban people once in a while chat with all the tards playing l2 and go back to bannin bots :P
The reason you on Shilen aren't worried about endgame is because you aren't there, that's why.
Its a completely different demographic on Naia and Chronos. Why? Because we have 4 or so very large "top" clans that have people well into their 90's at this point rapidly approaching 99. I think that a few of them will be 99 by mid to late march.
You have a party of 99's going up against a group of 80-90's, and you're going to see why endgame matters so much. Once you have people reaching those level ranges on Shilen taking out entire command channels of people with just one party you're going to come to the realization that those levels do in fact matter if your clan wants to compete with those that are that high.
That's what leads to botting, is the competition of other clans.
Also, people saying its a grind game are 100% right, and again there lies another problem. Regardless of what it is, people still play it, and people still hate grinding. It's boring, tedious, and you barely see any progress relevant to the time spent doing it.
For example, I spent roughly 3 hours in Harnaks 3 a few nights ago. In my time there, I made roughly 6% an hour at level 86 with a group that placed first roughly 4 times in that time period. So I made 18%. Not bad right? I'd say so. Now lets look at my friend who's an Iss who was there that is 91. At his level GoG isn't worth it, so you're stuck in Harnaks. He was there with me that entire time, and made 3%.
There wouldn't be any issue with this except for the fact that if you're in a PvP clan, you're screwed. Sure you can sit around and wait for a 100% ress but honestly how often can you do that if you die to a tag? Your single death is now 30+ minutes of work if not more.
There are so many problems with keeping a game strictly grind based and making the grind so long it's insane. I love L2, and will play it for a while, but as others have stated in High Five this game came into it's own. Experience wasn't so hard to gain that people felt this game was another job, now it is, once again.
Population is fine on the servers now because it just went free, but once that novelty of being free wears out, and you have a large demographic of the hardcore players at 90+, you'll start seeing that population dwindle. People don't want a video game to be a job, people don't want to spend 18+ hours a day playing a game to gain 10% of a level if that.
I completely see the reason why people bot, and as others have stated; when the benefits of botting far outweigh the risks, you have a problem. That's NC's doing, and will take NC to fix it.

+1
Couldn't have said that better. If Ncsoft actually cares about this game they should adjust it for western gamestyle (yes, and by that I mean dumb it down)
Not true my friend, this game is for whatever your style is. Do you want to be low level for ever, hunting in your ever favorite places ? you can !!
Do you want to role play ? you can !!
Do you want to build a social funny clan without a remarkable goal ? you can !!

You need to get some award for this line , rly + rep guys
I hear you my friend, and of course lvl 99 does matter, it's hard for me to talk in English very well :<
Even on Shilen it matters, what I wanted to say has more to do with the competition part other ppl have been talking about in their posts here.
Bots are setting the bar on so ridiculously high level, that top 10% of server consists of 90% bots and 10% players like you.
When we compete against other "humans" who have same mentality/playstyle as us, the only ones you'll see on top are those putting in the time/effort/money (nccoin $$) to achieve it, and in my opinion they do deserve the "OPnes" they get, it's nice reward and when you experience it it really doesn't surprise me that much to see people giving in to cheats. This is L2 man, most "top" clan players know the feeling of winning epic PvP fights, it's like a drug man :D.
But then again, there are players who won't be that fast but can still fight players in their lvl range, running in fear like lemmings as top 99 players come by and decide he wants to join in the fun with a couple friends of him :D. This is L2 we know what we are playing. We choose to play this game because of all this, it's just the best :).
It's a grind game yes but often ppl use it as "bot propaganda" to recruit in more players it's so sad man. We (western players) failed imho, not everybody but the majority yes, we failed and are just crying to have easier game so we can play with the hardcore without putting in so much effort/time/money.
10 Years man, thus I'm saying, make the grind easier, because it's not working, people cheat.
about the make the grind easier thing... wich I'm not that ok with, see this post
I love how everyone says FNT bots... were a zerg clan, were a bunch of botters. ROFL.
First of all, we have high levels because we run train groups, our tanks know how to play their class and equip themselves to run these trains, we level fast because we know the best areas to train, we do it 6+ hours a day and get about 400% the exp a bot party will get in 3 days single killing mobs. We know how to play our classes. You can say "(class) LFG for (place)" in ally chat and almost always get a party within 5 minutes.
the rest of his post is not interesting at all... anyway xD
6 hours a day doesn't seem like too much for "hardcore" now does it? And I'm pretty sure out of those 6 hours they hit mobs at least 5 hours if not more whilst most other groups will hit mobs 1 hour +/- out of the 3 they are logged in 'and maybe loosing exp in that time because of wartags, fail "random" pt members or just bad play/luck :<
bots/cheats have made the rewards taste like -_- sorry to say
I'm a casual player and look forward to a long and healthy game and I chose L2 for that reason. If I wanted a quick game where I got everything quick then I would not have chosen L2.
Stop trying to change the game to meet the needs of the guys who want it easy - there are plenty of other games out there for them and there is a market for L2 for the way that it is meant to be played provided that the integrity is maintained (e.g. whittle down the botters).
I and many others are more than prepared to wait for my small rewards as I level, but what I don't want is to be met at the other side by players who had it all yesterday by cheating their ***** off right under NC's nose.
I probably need to remind everyone that players don't bot because they find the grind too hard (in fact most botters know the game well enough to do it all by hand) they just do it because it is a long and time consuming process to level and botting 24/7 gets you ahead of the majority of the competition. Botters just want a 1-up on everyone else so that everything is stacked in their favour when it comes to PvP - thats why it is funny when most 'top' clans harp on about being PvP clans when they obviously are not as they aren't interested in competition they just want to dominate (via cheating).
Obviously there's the catching up element where if you come into the game late you are well behind everyone else - I kinda get why players would want to bot in that instance, however, the game is changing (and many high level and well geared players are complaining about it) so that newer players catch up quicker so that there is not so much temptation to bot. Instantly botting on a new server though (such as Bartz) is downright ******ed.
there is so much hate in your reply man and good players who bot (and have been for years) because the grind is hard laugh at replies like yours and bring in even more hate, no solutions, only destruction :(
on a serious note I think NCSoft prefer having 5 servers than the 2 you guys have been playing on for years
People bot so that they can gain an advantage over others. Either bot trains to make adena. Or bot their main to stay ahead of the curve. Party vs Party pvp thankfully has a lot more variables than just gear and levels.
Party vs Party pvp thankfully has a lot more variables than just gear and levels.
Lol like scripts and who has better pc/connection.
Gear/Level advantage will almost always take the win. The only time when that wouldn't matter is during mass PvP and sieges. And even that is highly automated now.
What this thread should really be about is not so much as how dumb botting is getting but how dumb NCSoft truly is.
1. If your code keeps getting leaked, you're doing a poor job of running your business. Your heads of department actually conspired to sell L3 to Sony. NCSoft's management practices really needs to go into Textbooks on how NOT to run a company.
2. If the Private Servers were attracting players because it offered less grind and better customer service and the proof is in the latest financial Results for NCSoft NA, what more proof does a company need to start making the right changes?
Go after the Bot makers. NCsoft has the resources to go after these bot makers and has enough proof that they are causing not only malicious damage to their intellectual property but causing loss of revenue.
Once again, L2 is on the right path to success, it just needs to straighten themselves out more, and needs to unshackle their constraints from their Korean Overlords.
Posts and Posts and Posts of bots... When will this end?
Until something is done probably never people will always complain about bots. That's been my experience in some of the mmo's I played.
Why must everyone cheat at a video game?
man i ve try alot, i make 1323234212342423412 petitions but they dont do anything, now just check the video.
While i will never bot the facts people state do hold water. The Bottom line is that a grind game that extends game play by making competition about how hard and how much you grind will not only lure in bots, But lure in RMT to the players who cannot entirely handle the stresses of the grind for money and exp. the solution more modern and Non korea games came up with is reduce mob exp and replace it with quest exp. This is the more accepted game system However there is still a flaw, Some people DONT want to do chain quest after chain quest.
Lineage has made a huge difference in its 1-20 game and of course the 20-41 game but not quite so much as the 1-20.
That difference is engaging the players with a quest that mixes things up. takes you to new and exciting areas and back again for a SIGNIFICANT reward. I personally Don't see the Harm in introducing supreme high level quests. 3 different quests (not 3 quests repeating themselves over and over for 13 levels, im talking 39 unique and story driven quests) per level, from 86-99, Soloable and partyable quests(Parties get some sort of significant bonus/incentive for partying). These quests could be available once a week(lower level ones maybe even twice a week) and they give say 25% per level. these quests especially if done in party will provide the same chances for drops that the current parties and group areas are focused on (keeping prices lower), however this puts a significant and faster pace to leveling from 86-99 making it possible to achieve at least ONE level within a reasonable enough time to overshadow the speed of the botting alternative. its a rather complicated idea as it would need a lot of tweaking and ironing out to keep a high reward incentive for not botting and faster leveling over the market and community interaction mindless drone hunting creates.
Your suggest sounds like you want to make Lineage 2 into Aion or WoW even. Quests are worst than grinding. They've never been interesting and Lineage 2 has always been grind-based. Even the quests involved grinding, remember the quests in Hellbound?
If you want quests there are plenty of other MMOs with that style. If Lineage adds any more annoying chain quests like the 1-40 quests and Noblesse, then they risk losing the players who do not want questing.
Besides, they made it clear they're not going for that with GoD update. Have you seen the list of quests they cut out? How much of the lore they practically destroyed? This isn't that kind of game anymore.
I know people that play l2 for 7 years on private servers and they only started botting now....
When you are <18 you have school
When you are 18<22< you have college/gf/friends
When you are 25< you have a job wife too maybe
You can't expect people to grind for hours just to have a few minutes of fun every day....
Even teleports are too expensive (Unnecessary stress). You bot make few mils and then stop caring for costs...
As its already been said the risk of getting banned is overwhelmed by the activities you can do while botting.
Most ppl that I know botting they don't do it for being top...they do it just for small benefits that don't cost them time. Make 5-10 million adena for example and don't care for 150k adena Schuttgart - SoA. Buy from shops that are not the cheapest...and dont care for checking prices much....especially in Aden....or buy from Auctioner and dont care doing Nursery....Teredor....
I think that NC West doesn't want the bots to disappear from the game. Amongst them there are probably quite a few paying customers and banning them all would cost them quite some money. I assume that NC West needs to report their monthly profit to NC Korea and they're pretty happy to show positive income.
The problem about bots themselves is that they bot in the wrong places and there aren't many places for bots (like catas before GoD). What they made in GoD is they made a few places to level for everyone and now when bots collide with normal players there are these conflicts that we see everywhere.
Though, you can always have some fun with bots, for instance:
Find a bot party, get a friend that has some cool skills like aeore, sigel, feoh, summoner that could disable bots and kill them, for the lulz. Also there are bots that will kill Deinonychus if you flag on them, so then you can kill them. I've also had a lot of fun pushing a few bot parties down the cliff in Altar with my Aeore. That's a pretty good way to have some revenge on them and I'm pretty sure you can kill any bot, any time as long you try enough.
People cheat in different video games because they want to be the 1st. They want to kill anyone without any problems and competition. They prefer to achieve level cap as fast as possible and skip all midgame content to have "fun". In reality when they achieve top level they start to cry on forums/game etc about "boring and empty games".
+1...i couldnt agree more, i mean why the hell would someone wanna lvl up as fast as they can....get all the optimal gear, ignore all the content a game has to offer, max out in lvls in such a short time..only to leave due to game being dull and boring. I cannot express enuff how fun it is to Kill a botted up person on siege day ( in top gears) due to the fact he botted up and nvr learned his toon ( im not talking about the ppl with deep pockets either who +16 their weapons, im talking the avearage botter who bots just to lvl up)...wanna know something really satisfying....Using a healer to kik a tanks butt...now thats some funny **** :D
I know people that play l2 for 7 years on private servers and they only started botting now....
this my friend... this :( and I also totally agree with the last part about some people cheating not to be top but to have it easy in-game
the situation is more complex than most of us think it is, like this guy who said he is ok with the long grind and NCSoft just has to perma-ban all cheaters, I undestand him very well that's why I only played x2/x3 private with no "GM-shops", but this is not a solution this will only lead to the end of Lineage 2 for all the reasons that have already been discussed in this thread

No my friend the problem with bots is that they exist, it doesn't matter if "legit" players come across them or not, the fact that they are in the game is bad for Lineage and this cannot be discussed, only arguments for those using bots are just excuses for them to do so
Also there are bots that will kill Deinonychus if you flag on them, so then you can kill them.
This also worked with my Tank Lion when I was PK, what I did in Altar is I get "agro" from bots on my Lion then run behind some rocks or whatever, when they kill my lion they are stucked in the rocks :D
I've also had a lot of fun pushing a few bot parties down the cliff in Altar with my Aeore.
Doing this was the best 2 hours I've had in Lineage 2 since a long time ago :D

I don't want to be rude man and I'm beeing really honest here, and I'm not sure if I can express my opinion in english very well... but let me tell you this, please don't be mad, I think you are a noob :<
I'd just like to add that today at lunch break I did daily quest on 3 alts (60-65-70), with Iss buffs (100k @ aden don't be cheap :p it is the best thing to do)
can you imagine I actually had all quest done on all 3 characters in such a short time, why? NO BOTS on hunting zone for said quest. THX! :D
The enoying thing with the bot scrubs is that they use programs that gives them a big advantage in PvP and also in PvE cuz they can be playing for hrs and hrs while doing other stuff.
Then they brag about how good and strong they are in PvP. Its pathetic. Worst is when you see one of the worst botters as a statue in all towns.
Going down to Harnak and a whole group lay dead on the floor in a room for hours... bots?? what do u think?
Thats tells alot about the health of this game.
Hopefully NCwest keep up the good work banning those scrubs.

You don't need to be a genius to see that the correct solution to this would be to not play the game if your time is occupied with all this other stuff. Yet instead you decide to cheat. so I'll add another line for you.
When you are 40< you are in jail for having repeatedly broken the law.

I'll tell you what my friend, I'm only lvl 88 and I'm already bored with all this -_- grind and the noobs the community these "officials" servers have to offer
I'm tired of trying to convince the 80+ members in my clan that all moved here from an EXCELLENT private community to stay hoping things will get better and the game will learn from the MASSIVE private communities that left their servers to come play on NCSoft servers
I'm tired of seeing hate post with only "BAN BAN BAN" and absolutly zero positive thinking on the subject, I bet you ppl saying all this beat children and animals IRL, yes I'm mad.
Oh and about the private scrub thing I can read all over the place, you ppl just don't know what you are talking about, on private we have NO RMTs, yea you read that right, NO RMTS!! do you know how it is to farm ALL the raw mats / key mats / recipe you need to craft a single Bow of Peril in C1? nobody on official knows, hell when I ask friends who played official in Gracia-Freya or whatever how do you craft dynasty / moirai / vesper you know their answers?? with dworf in giran............................................. .............. nuff said
PS: yes I'm going back to private, more room in hunting zone for you noobs :D
A few people quoted me and I don't have the time nor the will to individually ***** every point and remark made towards my post so I will do a general response.
As someone stated before me, most people who play this game are between the ages of 15-30 and between those ages a lot of variables are similar. School, Work, Family, Friends, Relationships. Those factors take a lot of time out of each day which only leaves so much time for personal things, one of them being Lineage 2.
This game is a grinding game. Regardless of how any of you might play it whether you prance around Elven village at level 20 roleplaying with fairies and trees and whatnot good for you, but for many other players in pvp clans they play for the Open PvP aspect of this game. Now in order to pvp you need levels and equipment, both take considerable amounts of time. Considering that the game is also influences conflict and competition, if you fall behind you will not be able to compete. Simply put a 3-4 levels difference after awakening seals the deal on who wins a fight. This new change to Lineage to in level difference after awakening is absurd. When I first started on a new server My party of level 65 and 66s could hold their own against a bad group of no lifers who were level 78-80 and beat them within minutes, now my party is 89/90 and those same bad no lifers are level 94/95 and we can't kill them due to the system of damage reduction via level difference, making all damage low and easily healed over. Thus levels are crucially important.
Now what can we do, spend more time grinding... a very boring aspect of the game which is nothing less than a job. What do other people do? They make bot groups and enjoy their lives and come back to participate in the fun activites the game has to offer instead of spending countless hours grinding. The grind aspect of the game is the major reason why bots have existed since 2004. There's no need to rant or attack me about "cheating is bad" and so forth as it doesn't matter. People cheat in everything. People cheat in relationships, in jobs, on friends, on tests. People will cheat to get a leg up in anything it doesn't matter if its a videogame. So your opinions on the morality of cheating is null as the cheaters know the risks of cheating and they all have figured the benefits of cheating far outways the risks of getting caught especially now since the game is free to play.
So... from here on don't talk to me about the moralities of cheating. It is completely irrelevant. The main issue here is the main reason for the cheating, ie: botting in the first place. "The grind" which equates to the difference of power in between levels which is in my honest opinion way overdone now.
I have to ask, respectfully, why did you come to official in the first place? I keep hearing people like you talk about how awesome their private server was and wish official was the same but none will say why they came here.

So what exactly do you want us to say? "Go ahead dude, bot to your little heart's content?" And you want to get that reply on the official forum, no less. :)

Do you prefer to own a pirate DVD of a game or an actual oficial copy of that game(for free)?

Yes of course I can tell you, there are several problems with Private server/communities, there is the legal aspect...... wich isn't really a problem but is one... don't know how to say this sorry :/
But it's mostly about server population, my private server is only two sided, there is not enough people to make it interesting / viable to have more than 2 sides and 3rd side will get crushed/recruited before being able to compete anyway
There is also the lack of economy, we did adapt, we all have lvl 20-30 scavengers (mine is so cute she has +6 brig set and RED name :D) and higher lvl ones to farm mats/recipe. I can hear official noob in the back laughing saying "why not buy from giran dorf private scrub?" :p anyway...
And there is the problem with new updates or.... sorry I don't know how to say, but on private we are not sure if Antharas is working the way it's supposed to for exemple, or some new skill etc etc. And we can't really ask the dev/GM because they don't know either.
But you see all those problem are nothing compared to the epics PvP we have every TW/CS or Ant Queen/Baium respawn, last time we had ppl fighting over Queen Ant for nearly a whole day can you imagine that??? I just log and receive invite to party and I see in clan chat things like "AQ FASTTTT" "LOOOL" "LOOOOL" "LOOOOOL" "HERE HERE" well... you get my point... the most fun in L2 comes from the PvP if you say otherwise you give me the right to call you a carebear :D (and I know a lot of people who are ok with being carebears and still enjoy the game ;))
On shilen there were a couple fights over Queen Ant and Baium when server started, eventually those fights led to ppl wanting to be higher level than the ennemys so back to grind (PvE) and we know the rest
you know i see everyone *****ing about bots in these forums but when players take things into thier own hands and kill the bots they get grifed by the same players that come on forums and cry about the bots so unless your going to take care of the situation your self then please dont post your complaints

PS: who's up for making the best ever open source open pvp mmo?!?!? just sayin... :o

Well, that's a completely different question than I asked but I'll answer it if you'll answer my original question.
I would prefer official, given your parameters of the question. I don't pirate stuff and didn't play on private servers even when L2 was P2P.

To answer your original question, there's plenty of reasons:
-Brag how you got a char in retail and are hardcore coz of it and pwn all (when hanging out with PS community). I met a LOT of these.
-Cause ALMOST everything is up to date, the average player won't find much inconviniences concerning bugs, maybe 2 or 3 but nothing like a PS.
-Cause it's official -> it's genuine -> it has high quality (at least on the begining that's what one thinks).
-Cause having one good char on oficial is the ultimate goal, it's easier to be known if you play on oficial than some forgotten PS.
-It's hard to find big populated servers. PS players come look for competition, that's what it's always about on L2-> competition and oficial brings the most chalenging competition, specialy those ZRanger dudes, gotta overcome those and ur a king! (sarcasm)
-like a oficial DVD or pirated DVD, the feeling of owning the real thing is much more satisfying than the crappy emulation/copy of it. It's like having Street Fighter or Melty Blood actual games instead of Mugen with street fighterand melty blood characters . Understand my analogy now?

thank you yes, all this (you have nice english man xd)

It means that telling me that botting is cheating is pointless information. Thank you.
Any abstract thinkers in this forum or am I wasting my time?

Pointing out that it's alright to cheat (or have cheated in the past) because everyone was doing it also seems just as bad.
I understand how you want to address the root of the issue, the 86+ grind, but that doesn't justify using programs.
If top clans didn't use programs as much, their competition wouldn't have to use programs and then whomever put more effort into grinding would come on top. Maybe we'd still have competition over PvE locations too. Whether that's fair or not in this game is a debate since it takes extreme nolifing to get to those levels, but programs/cheating just made the whole situation worse imo.
No you not only have to worry about competition, but about the programs, about being mass reported, being caught doing it, having to make new chars, etc. And it's been said before, but I'd like to emphasize it: the risk has been there from the beginning and players had a choice.
I just want to add that if my lvl 88/90 pt could hold their own against lvl 95 pts then most of them wouldn't have quit the game because of programs, I think it's even safe to say that we would have been so happy to beat those cheats that the grind wouldn't have been a problem at all
