The Goddess of Destruction Truly Free launch was nothing short of a success, and we have come far in our mission to provide you with an innovative way to play the game and enjoy our service. We are delighted to see so many players having fun with the game and sharing constructive feedback, and it motivates us even more to move forward and continue to improve upon what we have built.
Weve collected some numbers and fun facts about the community development weve seen since launch.
Over 5,000 clans have registered for sieges. Castle Sieges are currently the most popular PvP event.
Over 2,000,000,000 monsters have been defeated in PvE combat.
Over 2,000,000 characters have been challenged and defeated in consensual PvP combat. Lineage II is a PvP-focused game, and we hold true to that!
In midst all this positive growth, there is also some loss. As some of you may know, there have been some changes inside NCsoft West in the recent past. It is with great sadness that we must officially announce the departure of Marissa "Moxie" McWaters, who was the Producer for Lineage II at NCWest. She worked with us for several years with love for the game and the community, and she has now moved on to other opportunities. She will be dearly missed but we progress forward, inspired by her dedication and principles, to a bright future for Lineage II. With this change, I step into the big Producer shoes with both humility and zeal.
Speaking of the future of Lineage II, this is a very exciting time in the games history. We are now roughly three-months into our Goddess of Destruction and Truly Free launch, and still thriving. For all veterans and returning and new players it is a wonder to see the world of Aden so full of life and bursting with so much energy. It brings back a lot of memories and continues to shape new ones. While the game has been transformed through many updates over the past eight years, the fundamentals are still the same and all returning players may still find that same special something that made their Lineage II experience so memorable.
With the Truly Free conversion many other great things were launched: an entirely new website (www.lineage2.com (http://www.lineage2.com/)) which is being improved on a day-to-day basis; the L2 Galleria and L2 Store which allows you to buy from a selection of cosmetic, supply and event items instantly delivered to you in-game; the Path to Awakening which propels you to level 76 and beyond by giving you tips and free equipment along the way; the launch of new servers for the thousands of new players; the new NCoin currency, which will be developed further in the future to become an even greater convenience. All these major changes combined together required a colossal effort from all the game teams, and I would like to take this opportunity to publicly deliver my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the people who worked relentlessly to bring you the Truly Free experience and pave the road to Lineage IIs bright future.
With all that being said, such a big launch was not without issues and I'd like to take a moment to address a few of them:Controversy over the new Reputation System
The change in the Reputation (also known as Karma or PK) system was surprising for a lot of players because, as you know, it can be very unforgiving to low level characters that engage in unsanctioned PvP. The truth is that the game is now designed to propel you quite fast to level 76, and then to level 85, thanks to the changes in the Clan Academy and the new Mentor System. The main focus of the games new content in recent and future updates begins around level 85, and it is at that level that the new Reputation System is much more manageable. Although the penalty is harsh at the low levels, this is done to help protect new players and it is intended to provide a better game experience to everyone overall.Login Issues and Server Capacity
Most of you who play on heavily populated worlds have been experiencing less than optimal conditions to log into your favorite server. It can be very frustrating and this is something we deeply understand. The issues can come from various different causes, some related, some temporary, some not. We would like to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to improve the situation no matter the cause. The free server transfers from Chronos and Naia to Magmeld were the first of such efforts, and we recently also raised the population cap on congested servers to allow more players in the game world at the same time. The raised cap is merely a temporary solution while we work on further improvements. Rest assured that the login issue is on top of our priority list.Account Services
We have heard your requests for Account Services to be re-opened and this is high on the list of priority projects we are working on. This project extends beyond Lineage II, in fact, as multiple NCsoft West games are working on integrating some of their platform and payment systems. As such, account services will re-open in the future with improved features and more ability. To those of you that are new, know that Account Services include Server Transfers, Name Changes, Gender Changes, Subclass-to-Main service, and the Subclass Separation service. When Account Services return all the details about the different services will be provided.Real Money Trading and 3rd-Party Software Use
We have recently posted a separate communication on this matter (http://www.lineage2.com/en/news/announcements/progress-on-policy-enforcement.php) and I invite you to read that post.
Of course we are also working very hard to fix the current game bugs and to process all your valuable feedback. Although the above are only the top few of the various on-going issues, we want you to know that we hear all of your concerns and work on addressing each of them as soon and as best as possible.
As mentioned earlier, we have come a long way, but we are certainly not done! Many more good things are coming to the game. We aim to improve the Path to Awakening with more details and information about each level range that will better guide you in your journey. The next content update for Goddess of Destruction is also just around the corner and we will be able to give you more information about it in the very near future. In a nutshell, the next game update will greatly improve the level 80-85 range of game progression, and bring some new and exciting features! In addition to preparing new events for the general future, we are also very busy preparing new items for the L2 Galleria and L2 Store after collecting your feedback. Please continue to let us know what you would like to see or change in both stores.
This is a great time to start or return to the game. Set out on the Path to Awakening and embrace your destiny!
GZ on the promotion. Glad they gave it to someone that has a lot of knowledge about the game.
Btw, maybe we can get this direct from the horse's mouth so to speak... Are there any plans to offer skill reset in the future? I know that has also been asked many times.
This was great to read. Thanks for taking the time to write and post this info Cryo. Hoping to see more posts like these in the future. Also looking forward to more info on the next update.
And another huge thank you for continuing the efforts against RMT/3rd Party Software. I think people are really starting to notice a difference with the new policy and actions against the botters.
First of all i wanted to congratulate with you about the promotion.I hope that you'll keep high the name of NCsoft and that you'll try as much as possible to come closer to the will of players(obiviously under certain possibities).Said this i'm sorry to hear that 1 "big head" of NCsoft left his role...but just like real life everything goes on and we must continue with what is left(which sometimes can bring even better things).Said this i would like to quote Retribution:
Are there any plans to offer skill reset in the future? I know that has also been asked many times. This is something that interests many of us.Since there was not a PTS for GOD please consider about giving us a way to obtain old 3rd skills back(from a service or event)...trust me that some 3rd class skills kept can make the difference in pvp.So either give to people a way to get some skills they want back or directly delete all 3rd and force ppl to get the new ones. Now as now the actual sistem is unbalancing
Congratulation Cryo for the promotion, and I wish you good luck. I'm happy to see that the main core of the Lineage II team at NCSoft is almost untouched and still running :)
Lots of fancy company speak saying a lot of nothing
As a L2 veteran I came back to see what had changed by going "truly free". Everything has changed and none for the better. But that's to be expected when every priv server freeloader and his BR cousins come to play on official. Also to be expected is that anything done in game is focused to promote the cash shop. Sure, if someone wants to spend several thousand euros to make a shiny weapon go ahead, it's your money, but don't expect me to hang around to compete with them.
Nice to see some info from " the horses mouth" as it were. I have high regard for NC Soft and the games you put out. I picked up on Guild Wars in open beta and bought it the day it came out as well as 2 of the expansions. I do hope a few little things get adjusted such as an invert mouselook option http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=127769 , especially considering the move to microtranactions and the free to play market. I feel catering to the widest audience is the best recipe for success and ease of control settings is basic to get the intuitive feel everyone wants when they settle in for a few hours of play. Good Luck on your free to play business model.
YIIPIIIIIIIII, I can finally achieve something on retail server. (BIG SARCASM)
Note1: legit players cant achieve nothing
Note2: cheats exist since "11.09.2007" and NCSoft Still cant block it, GL in PVP vs cheaters.
Note3: Gratz with the promotion. I hope you get a DEPROMOTION for every cheater you allow in Servers.
For all veterans and returning and new players it is a wonder to see the world of Aden so full of life and bursting with so much energy
Not for long my friend. And Aden its not "full of life" its more "full of cheaters".
I play here since five years, I saw under this time here many producers. I think many players think with me same from those, who play here since years, that you are the person who can help a lot on the Lineage 2.
If I know well Moxie left the NCwest around October of 2011. I guess the community loved her too and we all miss her, but since she left I saw many creative and good idea, also saw many useful changes too.
You are really the person I guess from the Lineage 2 Team who know the game and as I feel really like it too.
I think the bot process already started on the right way since appeared the message on the website, that you found a new process and system how you can find the cheaters easier and also they get permanent ban too.
I think in the future these steps would be really useful:
1. Marketing/Promotion.
2. Talk with the NCKorea, that make some little changes in the western client example: less and easier remove able karma, in the Tauti update the dark side castle owner just would be able PK freely the another castles owners and not the whole server population.
What I would like to ask from you, when will arrive to us the Harmony update? I wait it on every week since February, it is already released in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Russia too, I totally understand that you had a lots of technical problems after the F2P system, but I think to those over populated servers would mean a lot if the new XP places would be installed to the game as soon as possible.
Many of us started from lvl 85 100%, but bigger part of us still under 90, while some players from us, already got the 98 level too

In Korea it has in the meantime turned out that the new Siege System greatly invigorates the game. There is barely a week when Inven.co.kr does not publish an article about the dramas unfolding on the servers: http://www.inven.co.kr/board/powerbbs.php?come_idx=390
Of course a vast media coverage is not necessarily equivalent with a high revenue, but it is certainly a good sign. On the other hand, Korea is Korea and the West is the West. It would really be of vital importance to take out PvP software users RIGHT NOW, ban anybody at the slightest sign of misbehavior, also motivating their friends to quit the game. There is no fun in forging alliances, trust and betrayal (어제의 친구가 오늘의 적), when some clans are cheating and the Underwear Armies (which in Korea regularly reset Dark Castles to NPC-held status) have no chance to begin with.
Yeah, after hearing about the light/dark castles and their respective benefits and limitations, I predict exactly zero "light" castles on NCSoft West servers for a long, long time.
Possibly for as long as we can control castles. :)
I can see a situation, when it would be reasonable that a castle become light.
When a castle is taken by a clan, that would have no benefit from ability to PK everyone (I.E. all the competition on XP spots would see a chance in pvping against such clan), there could be more benefit in doing something for the allies that helped taking the castle, even if it's only 0% tax - and strenghten alliance this way.
I.E. on Naia when Crematory took Gludio, I don't know how ability to PK everyone would help Crema clan, and also Gludio doesn't have that much traffic in shops I think. Another thing is, if they have resources to protect it from beeing "initialized" after taking it.
But I'm not sure, if CLs on our servers are far-sighted enough to think this way... and I doubt if neutral clans will be able to take castles anymore, when there will be some real adena to make on castle posession.
Thanks all for your kind words. To those with hard feelings - I am sorry you feel that way, but in the end I firmly believe this was for the best. Hopefully I will be able to change your mind in the near future.
Some answers:
Skill reset - That is something we are looking into, however at the moment it is not at the top of the priority list.
Harmony update - Coming sooner than you think, with a lot of surprises too!
Website Library - Yes we are working on updating it. Sace is also working on more updates for the website.

As I see those who judged this producer changes with may some negative words mostly joined to our official Lineage 2 community after the GD start. But as you can see those players who are here actively since years gave really positive feedbacks. Also you know many players in our L2 community mostly always react to everything with negative words, when they clearly see, that XY news are really good to them.
Well, than I think we count with the Harmony Update to tomorrow:D.
Will you plan also any project to your Youtube channel? Nowadays on the Youtube if you have an actively refreshing channel really easy to promote the video games.
Example I think many of us would be really interesting how is it look like behind the walls, when the GM team hunts bots, or to another interesting in game contents or something.
I think to same kind of video like the High Five promotion video was too.
That is a very good idea. Here is for example the Youtube channel of NCTaiwan: http://www.youtube.com/user/l2tw
As you can see, a number of those videos are not propaganda material provided by the head office in Seoul but self-made. The most cost efficient way would be to contact your colleagues in Taibei and ask them for the raw footage of videos like "The Lineage 2 we have been playing together", without the Chinese ideograms, and then add English text. The person who made the Big Hunt comic (http://www.lineage2.com/en/news/announcements/reminder_for_store_items.php) could be set to that task :p
I am sure the NCTaiwan people would help you. After all, you work for the same company. Just ask :)

When you check around on the Korean Castle Control Maps (http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/gameinfo/castle/index?serverId=7) you will find that often Dark and Light castles are held by different clans of the same alliance, basically intending to loot their own caravans and then split the profits. This does not always work as planned :D

All I ear its promises and for long time ago. Do you want me to post the 1st PVP assisting bot date again? and its still usable, undetected and unbanned by your staff. Don't ask me to believe, because I don't.
The interview was made at a pre-Goddess party in Taibei NCTaiwan had hired her to host. Like many Chinese she is a habitual L2 player; in the interview she says how she likes the interaction with other players, that she, being of a somewhat timid nature, prefers ranged classes etc. - basically telling everybody how great Lineage 2 is and how great GoD will be. After all, that's what she is getting paid for :D
Producers will talking to players every six months or that time will be reduced?
We cannot guarantee Producer Letter's to be a regular thing but we do however intend to make communications more often than every six months. :)
At first it will be only a service to the followership of loyal fans Sace has already acquired, but the long time purpose of giving L2 a real-life face would be to draw in people who have so far only vaguely heard of Lineage 2. When you check the views on the NCTaiwan Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/l2tw) you will see that the Xiao Xian video has more than 7000 views, which is not bad at all in relation to the other videos on the channel, especially since she really doesn't say anything Oscar-worthy. That means quite a number of the people who have watched that video must have been her own fans from among non-L2 playing teenagers, people who just googled "小嫻" and were thus brought to the site. Building up Sace into a media personality might one day show similar results :)

I also support, this idea. Sace has good skills and creativity to this things.
But we all as players too should make some creative stuffs for the Lineage 2 too. If you see the youtube, you can see, that many player of different video games upload and comment their videos and they will have ten thousands of view count.
Maybe not a cheap thing promote a video game in magazines and TV channels, but the internet is free, just need some creativity!
Also can be a good idea to promote the Lineage 2 through the google add-sense.
I want to know how you can live with yourselves knowing that you are producing an addicting product that requires people to spend 10+ hours a day for 2 years to hit the top level. 95% of all players are still botting, with the 5% on here and active in the forums. It is easy ofc to level to 85, however to go past that to try to get 99, it requires the same old system of lvling several hours a day for years. How can anyone who has a family play a game like this? How do you expect anyone to play this game 1-2 hours a day(as all games should be limited to) and hit 99. The process would take 4 years. Do you guys ever feel like you are the wrong side of good things? Do you think its ok to play a video game more than 2 hours a day? Studies show it isn't.
Here is a recent study that shows playing a game over 2 hours doubles the risk of getting ADHD.
You cannot say that by posting statements advising someone to log out after 5 hours and get some rest is a good answer and solves the problem. You created a world that requires 10+ hours a day to achieve end game content, which makes you culpable.
I would love to play this game on a skill basis, and not put my IRL activities off to do so. You can just keep banning thousands of accounts a day if you like, it isn't making your game special. It is just discouraging skilled people from playing and is a complete waste of time. Look at the Steam platform for instance. They take micro transactions and it encourages TOP competition.
not expecting any real answer, i know an honest one would probably cost you your jobs.

I can't agree with you.
1. 95% of all players are still botting, with the 5% on here and active in the forums.
This is far not sure we are much closer to 95% legit 5% bot as to your option. Yes now the cheaters again tries to go higher, but they get much easier bann from now
2. It is everyone private decision how much time play with a video game a day. If you know how to play you can do lvling well in with your low online time too.
3. Everything can be unhealthy if you do! the football, the car drive, so everything.
Personally my only real hobby the Lineage 2 so I can focus all of this time to this game. But anothers play with 4-5 video games or go football matches or box matches or watch movie and yes these peoples can't xping so fast example as me.
This is being discussed in Korea as well. Prof. Cheon Keun-ah is an expert on ADHD and she, like her colleagues, came to the conclusion that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is not caused by video games but that children who already have that disease often tend to play first-person shooters: http://www.inven.co.kr/webzine/news/?news=42318
Apart from that, Lineage 2 with its point-and-click movement is happening at a more sedate pace than for example Counterstrike. So don't worry, you won't get ADHD from playing L2 :)
As far as endgame content is concerned, the only reason fur rushing to 99 is if you want to participate in PvP activities like clan wars or fighting for castles. What's wrong with taking 4 years to reach 99? I have started on Teon in August 2007 and my highest character is lvl 84. I am experiencing endgame content - the endgame of some years ago. And since I am always staying 10 or 20 levels behind the main crowd, I can experience that content in fairly empty hunting grounds, whereas it is far more difficult to find a spot in places like Harnak's Underground Ruins or the Orbis Temple which are considered by some clans as their private property.
It is really everybody's private decision how much time they play a video game per day, and in which way they play it. A noteworthy fact here is that members of the Lineage 2 Role-Playing Association (http://www.l2rpa.org/) are very rarely accused of botting, although they play the same game on the same servers as everybody else. So the problem seems to be not with the game itself but in the heads of some people :)
I don't understand the politics behind your attitude to botters/3rd party programs users.
You have few thousands people amongst Lineage2 NA/EU community, who can tell you about the most common PVP/bot program almost everything you need to either start banning people for using it, or just block it totally.
Yet you feed us with information you banned 15 000 accounts bla bla bla..
But SIEGES ARE STILL NOT PLAYABLE! It's enough for one of those specific parties to appear when everyone else LAGS like hell.
It seems like you either do not have human resources to cover this or you totally do not care about it.
Believe me, 2 hours with a REASONABLE developer of Lineage2, and he has enough information to block or ban zR users, which would clean like 80% of players of best clans on every server.
And you don't really need to be afraid of income drop after such ban wave.. they will be back exping new chars and using the zR functionalities which are the hardest to investigate. But they will be back 100%. THe game is too addictive and you, banning them, are giving a challenge.
Is it really necessary to petition one person for 30+ times to get him checked and banned? Seriously there are hundreds of those to ban and we really have different things to do in game, than write petitions all day long..

Yes, thats right.
Example from the Naia server you should mainly ban only 200-300 cheaters these persons use ranger/bot and they sell and buy adena, gears and accounts for real money.
Mostly these players play in same clans SilentHorrors, lnquisition and SouthernLights and DragonHunters on Naia.
When these clans appear on siege fields everyone get huge laggs because they use their programs.
These cheaters who are play in these clans are maniac cheaters they use real everything to be better in everything than anothers.
So if you could solve, that these 200-300 players would get total ban and after you could follow their IP or something if they would try return with bot, they won't be able to do it, than under some weeks you could clean the server from the cheaters.
Well, I guess it is less important now, that you have lagg for your pc/internet or because the cheaters use their programs.
Cryo, let's see, we have 5 servers we can see at a weekend 3 servers has sieges at another weekend 2 servers has siege.
I think it wouldn't be a big request if a GM will online at siege times on the servers there your team would see perfectly which players use their pvp cheats.
You wrote in to us, that 5000 clans registered to castle sieges if we calculate average 30 player per clan too, it is 150k players.
I guess it wouldn't be expensive if 4-5 GMs under siege and territory war times would be online.
I would bet, if you would writ to here how much money need to these 5 GMs for their +6 hours extra work times on weekend, that they be online under sieges under a day the community would buy enough NCoin to pay their work time!

+1 for the truth. I tell ppl frequently that they're not xping correctly when they complain about leveling speed, but it is true that this is from the perspective of playing a lot (which many of us do). Raising the cap to 99 in one update was pretty over the top, and I hope that in the future NCSoft would consider doing it in much smaller increments over time.
bots aren't the reason for lags, your pc is. running 6 core AMD at a siege with about 300 people this weekend and had no issues.
Read you nick 300 time to yourself and after that go read a tutorial or something. cluess player...
Hopefully I will be able to change your mind in the near future.
All I ear its promises and for long time ago. Do you want me to post the 1st PVP assisting bot date again? and its still usable, undetected and unbanned by your staff. Don't ask me to believe, because I don't.Harmony downgrade, you really change my mind. Thx for remind me how Lineage 2 its Bot2Win game :)
Although the penalty is harsh at the low levels, this is done to help protect new players and it is intended to provide a better game experience to everyone overall.

That actually makes alot of sense putting it into terms like that and explaning the reason behind it~
Regarding the lame pk system; if you decided to let us pray for the wolfs(aka ks-ers and bots) at least have the decency to put back the black judge so we can get rid of pk points in a human fashion. Not every1 has the nerve to gather so many fame points to get rid of 1 pk point.
Make the quest harder if you must, but at least MAKE it. Plz understand that we are human, and as odd as it may seen, some of us actualy play for real whisout bots. And when some1 comes to the only zone you found free, sets his bot there and goes afk, i see no other solution then PK him. And i don`t think you shoud deny me the right to pk a bot, no matter what you say.
Regarding abuses, well, you can always find 85+ perma reds killing low lvls, so your logic is kinda ilogical. And since you need a perma red char to get rind of bots, you can find them almost anywhere nowdays.
