Is joining a clan worth it?

General Discussion Started Last reply 23 posts
im a level 70 newbie who just joined a clan, but my clan is kinda...agressive and declared many war, ofcourse i got killed alot and lost some exp.

my question is: is joining a clan at low level worth it? or should i level up alone until 80+ then find a clan?
You should have been invited into the academy before 76, they are excempted from war.

They screwed up.

And at that lvl, you are better off joining a neutral pve clan.

What server?
Agree with Smittie. Join a Neutral Clan or an Academy.

Yes, it's worth joining a decent clan because Clan Skills can be extremely helpful.

my server is shilien and indeead i am a member of academy but people on the enermy clan can still kill me without going red
For some reason wartags can kill academy members from 70 onwards.

Better that you join some neutral clan, otherwise you won't be able to level up without getting griefed by wartags everywhere you go.

Welcome to L2, if you are in a half decent Clan this will be your life from now on, PvP, TW (while they last), Wars, some PvE when you aren't killing/dying, it's not that bad once you get into the right frame of mind
Half decent clans don't invite fairly new low level players when they know they will get killed by wartags and not be able to defend themselves. There are full groups of Awakened players sweeping low level zones like ToI looking for these types of free kills.

Dumb clans do that.

That's for your alts, not real people.

Academy members should trigger karma, IMO, and the loss of a Clan Rep Point to discourage this.
Greens dont go red so orcs have a huge advantage
IMO anyone 80+ not in a clan is suspect.
Really the game is about what you accomplish in a clan.

that made me lol lol lol!

Or looking for a better one. What are they suspected of, in your opinion? I was mostly clanless until 77.

There's not THAT much more you can accomplish in a clan than you can solo tbh. Many times clan just slows you down as they get in wars they can't handle and you get ganked if you solo or join random parties. There's very few clans that always have parties going, there's always random parties if not in a clan.

I've been mostly clanless since IL or whenever it was that I came back to game about a year after the first transfers opened from Erica > Bartz. When I have been in a clan the people have been great and it's been fun to do raids etc but very few people played to my scale so I spent a lot of time plvling people or getting XP interrupted with ganks.

Of course it's a lot different now with me being a healer instead of Dominator and parties being much better xp than you can manage alone. I'd still not be able to join random groups and play how I wanted if I joined a clan so I'm still hesitant to join any unless they are exactly what I need.
Besides, many clans demand taxes, mentee slots, minimal play time, constant presence in ts3...
IMO the new lvl1 is awakening, no point in joining an aggressive clan till then. Esp if you are doing majority of your grind solo and have no real back up to make sure you aren't loosing points to the clan.

If you are coming from a clan with 100+ online at a time then I'm sure you shouting out war tags in toi, someone will come to take care of your infestation, but otherwise you are an easy target to war clans and thus will also slow you down from hitting awaken so you can yourself be of better benefit to your clan.

Best to get to know a clan, hang out in the vent/ts then once you are ready to join the high ranks you will feel like you have been apart the whole time.

I think, what he meant is, that solo accomplishements have no meaning, because only accomplishement that matters is a clan accomplishement.
I.E. dinging another level is nothing to write home about. But doing something, that repaint political picture of the server is something that bards will sing about for centuries :)
There is no such thing as a neutral clan in Lineage 2 anymore. All it takes is to piss off the wrong person in a bigger clan blam your clan is in a war. Now you can drop tags or resign but that takes 7 days so you need to pvp.

If you are not willing to pvp from the beginning your never going to it later. Better to learn under fire then to learn from people who do not know how to pvp.

The best thing to do is avoid a clan until you're 87/88 at the very least, or try to find a clan that is neutral. Yes, those do exists. They're usually dead clans with casuals and some basic clan skills. Join one of those.

It's that simple.

You can't learn to PvP when you're severely overpowered.

There is "PvPing" and there is "being a free CRP."

If you are the latter than you have no business being in a clan with wars, and that's not necessarily a knock on that person. There are just more important things for them to do instead of get ganked repeatedly, like level up and get better gear so they can be an actual PvP and not just a free CRP.

No decent PvP clans should be recruiting low levels, especially when they know full and well those people will be farmed for CRP since they will be limited to PUG groups in obvious places with no clan-support to be seen (and clan support at those level ranges would get steamrolled by wartags, anyways).

You're talking foolishness, dude.

I've not heard of any clans doing anything noteworthy since like C3.

For me Clan 'fun' more or less died when I first transferred from Erica to Bartz waaaay back. No more solo gank runs or getting ganked by similarly matched players, just parties zerging solo spots and unfarmiliar faces all over the place.

Nowadays theres hardly any solo spots anyway and mobs hit HARD, so all you can expect is to XP in a clan group and get wiped by random enemy gank groups.

I don't see much advantage to being tagged at all, unless you're 90+.

Well, my experience in this matter is entirely different. I started in C5 and since that time I had or remember few memorable moments. I wouldn't say, that Teon/Naia history was static. And though I admit all the drama died a bit, I still have few familiar faces, that I wish they die in horrible way :P Also I always treated solo ganks as a waste of time and rather boring stuff, so I quess it's just difference in attitude toward game :P

Somewhat valid, but your definition of a neutral clan is too literal/askew.

A neutral clan doesn't inherently mean that they never war, it's just that they avoid the common pitfalls that would instigate wars and that they're not (normally) aligned with any specific clan for political reasons, and may or may not be friends with a multitude of clans, regardless of their polarized views.

Neutrality is politically aligned and generally containing an ambiguous playstyle that suits the needs of each individual clan. The point you were trying to make, I think, is that they're no true PvE-only clans, which is a valid statement, given that all it takes is for someone to have a bad day and declare on your clan. Neutral clans can, therefore, be either PvP, PvE, or a balanced/inbalanced combination of both. They're not limited to a single choice, it's just that they may shift their habits to avoid conflicts that shift the political equilibrium (Or lack there of) in the server.

They're neutral clans that have held castles, even for long periods of time.

They're neutral clans that have held multiple wars, even for long periods of time. And that doesn't just mean official declarations, but full-exp loss conflicts as well.

They're neutral clans (Actually I would say, presently, the majority of clans) that hold or have held fortresses, including ones involved in Territory Wars.

Neutrality is just more or less an adaptation to your particular environment, with no or little underlying preference to a specific goal. Neutral clans, at least good/smart ones, tend to avoid instigating PvP as it disrupts their ability to remain neutral or generally neutral.

Examples:

Neutral clans avoid groups to auto-flag people from target-less AoEs, for PvP points. They may still do this, but it would only be on clans that have directly imposed on them -- and not just because another out-of-ally clan has asked them to on their behalf.

Neutral clans tend to move after PvP. The general rule of thumb is to kill and move (dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!, Haha). If you sit around in one spot, after a conflict, it only welcomes further PvP that may eventually turn into a full-blown declaration of war.

Neutral clans tend to avoid unnecessary chaotic states, but that doesn't mean we won't go red.

Neutral clans tend to avoid open-world epics without proper support of a holding clan or multiple clans. Meaning, those that regularly have control over the killing of those epics or those that have political ties that do have control (Or not just control, but regular attempt/involvement in) would need to be spoken to first. The reason for this, is it's largely a point of conflict to have said take down Antharas without the go-ahead of at least one clan that has had active involvement in it. Most neutral clans/allies would not have this capability to do alone anyway -- let alone have the ties to allow it. Some did, but very few.

Neutral clans tend to avoid gratuitous and extended ganking/griefing/killing, as to avoid bad blood between given clans.

They're many, many other examples -- but the general point is neutrality doesn't inherently mean they're not involved in PvP. It's just that they take a relaxed / non-aggressive approach to it. At this point, there is just, bluntly, no-pure PvE clans. Only PvE-focused. Neutrality doesn't inherently mean they are or are not PvP or PvE -- it just means they're generally less conflictual in nature. The reason why it may appear neutral clans may be less PvP inclined is that in regards to humans, there is a large difference in ideals, so it's easier to be safer than sorry in regards to outstanding PvP scenarios. NPCs don't start crying because you killed them when they were the one who initially started attacking, you know?

In regards to the OP, it's definitely worth it -- but as others have suggested, your best bet is to join a neutral PvE clan, or a PvP clan that has the availability to have groups available just to protect / power-level you. The fact that the clan you joined did not warn you of what you were going to be involved in, is clearly a bad sign for that clan overall and I would suggest leaving them on that merit alone.
Or looking for a better one. What are they suspected of, in your opinion? I was mostly clanless until 77.

I am 87 without clan, arrest me :D
Join a clan, for the chat/party/little drama, it gets boring farming alone.....

avoid the big names clan if your not in Pk/War.
go play wow/aion
