I log on shortly after the maint, and decide this is a good time to do my nursery.
So I go in there, start it, pop a vit maint pot and charge towars some mobs. Quickly, I notice they're not aggroing or even attacking back, some of them even start disappearing. In my chat window I'm warned that the NPC server went down, and therefor, I will be kicked out of my nursery. And indeed, I'm kicked out... Not knowing how long this will take, I log out and ask my friend to tell me when the NPCs are back. It didn't take all that long for them to come back, like 5 minutes or so. So I log back in and run towards the red thingy, only to be presented with a message that says I cannot yet re-enter.

Welcome to Lineage 2 and NCSoft's netcode. If you're a veteran player you would have known by now to never log into the game right after maintenance day, and most especially right after a big patch day.
Veteran players know that Game Patch day is the day we walk our dog, take out the trash and finally take a bath. The smarter ones will take the day to check their mail, and make sure nothing died in their toilets. It's also the yearly grocery day, replenishing our supply of pop tarts and instant noobles and soda pop. You have to make sure you have enough food till Tauti.
For the Hardcore veterans, it is the day they replace their saline drips and a new catheter.
For the Farmers, it's the day they dust off their PCs, empty their Ashtrays (you'll only understand this if you've ever visited a farm) and take out the trash.
Actually, my char birthday is like 2004, I played CB, OB and interlude.
Think I sorta quit around the time C2 was released and moved to private servers for a few years.
Came back after some ppl were trying to convince me to (shortly after C6 release iirc), but I quit again after like 3 months.
Started again with this GoD stuff.
Never really felt the need to make a forum account or anything, as I used 3rd party sources for communication with fellow players. So don't let the date on this forum account fool you.
Also, I was asleep during the maint, and since my life doesn't revolve around this game, I don't have my biological clock set to remember when L2 maint is...
So I just woke up and decided to do my nursery first so I could do it again in 6hrs (which changed to 3?)
This isn't the end of the world or anything, and it's not about the money either, those pots are only like $2... It's about the principle.
When you get kicked out of an instance because NPC server went down, just reset the instance. That way, in the off-chance that you find yourself in an instance when the NPC server dies, you're actually lucky (except with instances that only give reward at the end), and not just ******.
This makes so much sense to me that I was actually assuming this.
But once again, the NCTROLOLOLOL got me...
