So, all these guys SPAM "ISS buffs 100k"

I type "FREE ISS Buffs at the bottom of the stairs, PM me" In Aden.

I said this 2-3 times, typing it each time and not using a macro. It was over a period of maybe 15 minutes. I moved to Rune Township to buff my mentee and typed it again and was told I had a chat banned.

How the heck can I be chat banned for advertising free ISS buffs 3-4 times in 20 minutes when these freaking dumb ***** spam they are SELLING ISS buffs for 100k every 20 seconds or so. They say it over and over every 10-30 seconds.

You get chatbanned if you type a lot within a short amount of time, no matter in what kind of chat and no matter the content of what you type.

A few chronicles ago, it was the client that imposed chatban, not the server, so bots that didn't use the official client could not get chatbanned.

How do I know it was the client that imposed it? I once got chatbanned when I typed too much after I had been disconnected from the server :)

Short repeated messages will lead to chat ban faster than long lines of text.

Not like its permanent geez, you can't use the chat for a few mins. The more you try to the longer the ban becomes. It's temporary no need to get bent out of shape over it. If that minor thing gets you that upset I can't imagine what a disconnection does or dying to a mob.

I don't even buff people at aden anymore. I simply say "No." when they ask and if they pester me while I'm XPing I simply PK them and continue doing what I'm doing. Can work off karma in < 5 minutes in SoA nursery, just ISS CS yourself before you port and no one will be able to stop you from porting in there...

Really a small set of people can't fix the issue if the buffers are making millions buffing they will keep selling buffs. Stop trying, and avoid this issue in the future as a side-effect.

Once I got a chatban for approximately 24-36 hours. Really bad experience.

An automatic chat ban is given when you type a few lines in very quick succession, trying to spam 5 messages in a second will get you a chat ban and any message you do after getting a chat ban will lengthen it.

I'm fairly sure the chat bans are enforced client-side, meaning if you can modify the client (i.e. cheating) you can bypass it. Which is so mindblowingly stupid from a game-design point of view.

Most spam in town is done by bots. 95% or more of it. Always has been that way.
