Lets look at what happened. Each player had to pay before, so NCSoft could keep servers online with this.
With free 2 play, no1 need to pay and everyone can play for free. So lots of ppl enter L2 to play for free, feeling very good.
So the server still needs to be supported. What do they do? Put itens to make anyone who buys it stronger. It can be in the moment, like those DWR; or in the long run, like vp pots + cake + extra pass + w/e.
So this is important. If everyone gets same items, it'll be no fun and there won't be that rush, that need to get more powerful items. But if you put high prices to get top items and constant high xp (weapons +15 and all), only a few ppl will have it, and they will pay that extra price to get strong.
So, you see, just as in private servers, the more players it has, the better. The rush to have a weapon +15 when fighting against 100 players, 500 players, 3000 players and almost none have weapon +15 is what moves them to pay so much.
The players who are playing for free are actually motivation for the ones who can pay to get top gears + extra donates. You see, they are like meat bags. The more populated the server is, it can happen 2 things:
1. Lots of ppl will be buying a lot of itens to be stronger than the rest; or
2. Lots of ppl will be 'normal' (level 95 or 92, itens +3, weapon +3, dye lv 2, lv 3), and when someone who can pay sees a lot of ppl like this, they get all excited and pay even more to win.
So, in the end, the players who are playing 'for free' are just there to make the ones who have money to actually spend it. [Have in mind that this is from a financial perspective, not ethical or ideological!] Ofc there are ppl who play a lot and never pay and they get kinda stronger, normaly asking for nccoin in trade of adena or items (I know it's illegal, but hey, it happens) or ppl who don't play a lot and pay to try to catch up.
In this process it enters the bots. I was thinking the basic thing since I entered official: "why no real protection when even private servers have it?"
The answer is above: bots in pvp are to get ppl to pay or to get the ppl who payed to see their toon killing everyone (as we saw in some TOP CP across the servers). Bots in farm are to make the economy even more alive, making it possible to sell things for high quantity of adena, or to insert more itens in the market to keep ppl excited with the diversity of the game.
Anyway, this is my opinion and sorry for the long post...
To a player, L2 is a hobby; players with a disposable income will fund their hobby if they so desire. To NCSoft, L2 is a business; if there is no monthly subscription cost, they need another way to make money. Disposable income, meet L2Store.

You cheat in college to get better grades, the reward, you cheat in relationships to satisfy your needs but stay with the person, you cheat on taxes to save money, you pay to to win to get an advantage I guess you need a brain to understand.

I find its mostly poor ppl that cry the loudest about l2 store items.
They should focus on making more money irl rather than play games I think.
If nothing else they need to stop crying about not being able to buy the same things as everyone else, and try to change their situation instead.

A more apt comparison might be someone who can pay for expensive tutors, admission consultants, etc so that Junior gets into the best college. Is it fair? not really but then again I see nothing wrong with it.

If you're cheating on someone do them a favor and dump them,don't be a pu$$-infested clitblister. cheating on your taxes can result in a audit and hefty fines, I don't suggest you do it.
I for one have seen you blowing up numerous threads whining about the NC store and yet you've blown money there yourself. Quit then if it bothers you so much. Not like you're bound here.
