Maybe someone from you don't know but *any* char can identify unidentified items - even lvl 1 char can identify R grade stuff.
And now here comes the good stuff - once you identify it (and it becomes bound) you cannot do anything with it - you cannot even crush it for crystals. The only way to free the slot is to dispose of it into dustbin.
Of course the feature would not be so smart if there was some kind of warning or such - that's why there isn't. Just accidentally missclick when you send your items to your dwarf and your items are gone forever.

vendor, or warehouse 'till you can use it... or better yet, get an unbind scroll.
Umm yes, you can as long as you meet the correct level for the grade of item but you can still crush as I just crushed 50 bound items sent to my dwarf
What is horrible though is from 50 armour pouches all 50 items were bound, seems the "luck" rate to get normal item as well as the drop rate for pouches has been increased
While you cannot blame NCSoft for your own stupidity, I would see some sense in only allowing a char identify items he/she can use, just to avoid these situations...just as crystal smashing works...
If its a low item you can cristalize it with enchant scrolls(wich are near to free this days) and if its a high lvl one just awaken then crush it? if its an alt just npc it.

The problem is that almost any toon at any level can equip almost any item. You can "use" an R grade weapon at level 1. Not well, but you can use it.
