You have to be smart and hardworking and dedicate yourself to this game to lvl up. I'm sorry, but just the way it is. If you a casual player you will be low lvl forever.
1) hardworking players look for other hardworking players to make constant parties (as long as you don't have a low lvl leader) the group then shares the exp from these raid bosses (a few istina = everyone lvls up faster than most of server (the lazy ones))
2) hardworking players hit mobs
3) hardworking players farm exp (live non-botting) and lvl up
4) hardworking player grinds way too much
5) hardworking players spend their money on vit items to increase nice exp
6) hardworking players don't complain about no mobs
7) you need to become a hardworking player to get exp else you will be low lvl forever!
8) hardworking players (girls) figure out they can work less hard in game if they work hard in bed with a hardworking player in game

Sadly, it has only worked for one girl I know. The other girls I know who tried it sadly realized they picked a guy who was as lazy in life as in l2 so he not only had no money, but also no lvl.
I find this post offensive. Not all girls are sell outs. You're basically calling people who play this game no-lifers. Seriously go play Tera or D3 and uninstall Lineage 2. You should feel like an idiot for trying to pick up girls like this too, almost no girls posts on the boards, and those that do would flame you till you QQ to your mom.

I don't get how this is a revelation...of course you have to be hardworking to get to the highest level...that's what Lineage 2 has been like from the beginning. But why does hardworking=hardcore? Can't casual people be hardworking too? The only revelation is that apparently girls have to sleep with guys to get items...which is stupid and offensive in so many ways. Besides its not everyone's goal in this game to get to the end level....perhaps they just like enjoying where they are right now.

Generally it isn't. But Lineage II is a fringe case.
If the game was so fun and playing it was for pleasure and entertainment I think we would still have about 15 NA/EU servers.
Cause WoW still has dozens of server, and other games too, and those are for pleasure and entertainment as well.
This game does feel like work, when you're playing to try to keep up with the upper eschelon of XP progression, which is a prerequisite to be competitive in anything PvE or PvP at end-game.
I'm sure someone will chime in with thieir 2 hours a day to stardom stories, but that's not the way it works. I know people who are high level. They play significantly more than I can bear to play this game these days. I used to be super hardcore in games (2-3 MMORPGs at a time 10+ hours/6-7 days/week) but I stopped cause it was basically a second job.
In fact just to focus on this one, I basically had to quit every other game I played, which is why I'd frequently take multi-month breaks from this one - to give me time to do other fun stuff :P I never had to do any of that for other games, because they had actual end-game content so they didn't need to put you into an almost endless XP/SP/Adena grind treadmill the way this one does.
I simply cannot agree with Hardcore=Hardwork. I agree with focusing and some "mental power" needed to withstand so many hours of pixels burning ur sight.
I know how XPing at a certain rate can be unbearable depending on you patience and your EYES for that matter!

The fact that you find it enjoyable to "waste" that amount of time in a game doesn't change the fact that it feels like a job.
The reason why clan parties are "funner" isn't be cause the game is fun, or the content is fun. It's cause you're in Ventrillo clowining around with RL people talking about [often] things that have nothing to do with the game. The game isn't what's keeping your entertained, the people are. A main reason why a lot of people still play this game is precicely because of the people (this also explains why some of you may know rather active people - in online time - that level up very slowly, they're here for the social, not the monotanous gameplay).
Hardly anyone cares about the "core" of any game except role players, and this game has so few of those that it's laughable to even mention it - especially when you feel you need to emphasize it that way.
Playing this game makes me feel like a Chinese Farmer. Games shouldn't be like that, IMO.
