Progressive Heal

Today I was discussing with a healer friend about possible changes that occurred in Progressive Heal's effectiveness.
My way of using it is targeting the Iss or some melee DD, to make the tank get the most healing effect out of the skill. But some healers used it directly on the tank and, until last maintenance, never observed any difference between the 2 ways.
The description also is slightly misleading, making people believe it heals 40% of the health on both target and the 10 most injured allies around the target. (And why 10, and not 5, 11 or 23 allies? O.o) As far as I was concerned, I always found it more effective if I was targeting someone near the tank, and not the tank directly.

What are your thoughts?
Doesn't matter. It starts from the Lowest HP person in range and degrades from person to person from Lowest HP to highest HP.

It doens't matter who you target, as long as they're near you.

The only caveat is that if you need the Heal you probably want to target yourself and not someone else, since it will often skip you and hit 10 other people instead.

Basically you target someone near everyone else, anyone, and they will get as much HP as they would have gotten if you had targetted anyone else.

Lots of healers tend to target the tank since most of the MOB damage output is occuring at the tank's position. Anyone not near the tank will likely be caught by a Balance or Brilliant Heal, so they are lower priority.
40% hp of the target is a lie! o_O, but 40% HP from ppl arround its true
I usually target the tank, it doesnt need most of the heal anyway, and it's worked so far.
Which skill is that?? I just freak out when someone's dying and roll my face across the keyboard.

Then I think I met u yesterday on kartia party! We had a healer using only panic heal (lvl 88 healer... wonder how much he pai... I mean how he got to that lvl using only 1 heal )

I usually target the tank since he gets most of the dmg and I can use fairy/sustain on him too and forget about healing for a little while.

Noticed that it heals the char with less HP the most, usually it's someone else not the tank bcos of mob aoe.

It depends on the amount of healed toons in the heal range around your target. The smaller the amount, the better your target is healed. As long as the target is not you.

If there is only the Iss near the tank, healing the tank directly will do reasonably well. But if there are 6 Cougars around the tank, you better target the Iss.

This also makes sense.
If you are in a party and the tank is taking all the damage, you would target a melee DD positioned near the tank to maximize the progressive heal on the tank (unless there are more than 10 "friendly" toons near the tank). Do not choose any DD who likes to use rush impact or the like because sometimes as you are watching HP bar, they have moved away and are momentarily too far for the heal to land where you want.

If in let's say kartia 90, the melee around the tank are the ones getting the damage, you'd bounce the progressive heal off the tank who should be taking the least damage within the melee range.

In both instances, sustain the tank.

Progressive heal is much less effective on the primary target - there are many ways to test this. One of the most telling is the kartia prisoners - try to progressive heal the damaged prisoner directly. Compare it with the indirect method to convince yourself.
It works for the target (that you currently have) and allies around him, doesn't matter who you have on target it will heal the most injured but on my healer I always target tank and when someone else drops just balance + chain or just chain heal the tank. So the less people around the more healing effect injured person will receive. Also you could easily lose control having iss on target. Not best idea.

How does it make sense?

Progressive Heal heals up to 10(?) target. The first target to heal gets its full power, the second one gets slightly less power and so on, and so forth.

Now, your direct target is Progressive Heal's last target in the list, and it gets the minimum amount of healing. The more targets are healed, the lower is the minimum amount healed.

This^

If you use it on yourself, with no people around, you get full 40%.
The more people it jumps to, the less heal the first target gets.

Makes sense the fact that the healing amount gets spread if there are more people around the tank.

Krissa just explained what I was trying to explain, without much success

I think I still prefer Sustain always on Tank+ rdy instantly to use Panic Heal if necessary

No. Seriously. Stop it.

It starts from the most injured person and goes down from there. Starting from the most injured to the least injured.

The only time WHO you target matters is if the person who needs to be healed it out of "jump range" from the person you target.

The only time you actually need to pay attention to who you target is if YOU need to be healed, since the heal tends to skip you almost all the time even if the other people are standing on top of you.

It still works the same way it always has for me. I'm not sure what change people are referring to, cause I'm not seeing any change in behavior. Maybe people just assumed it worked one way (incorrect way, it seems) and finally "saw the light" and think it was changed or nerfed somehow...

The issue with the skill is when you have a lot of targets around the target of the heal. Pets are a huge one, because if a MOB has reflect or does any type of AoE the pets will always be missing at least 1 HP and that severely nerfs the effectiveness of the heal. Also since pets tend to take more damage than a lot of players, they can cause the heals the players recieve to be too small.

But that's what Balance and Brilliant Heal (and Tree of Life, when usable) is for.

I struggle to believe you actually play this game sometimes, you're so clueless it's beyond belief.

Target gets least amount of heal out of anyone with progressive heal. FACT

Everyone else in the area gets like 40%. 8 people and tank in pack, all get hit for 50% of their HP by a random AOE. If you target the tank he will only get a small heal whilst rest of party will get like 40% hp back, target the guy next to the tank and he will get a small heal and tank's hp will shoot up 40% orso.

Spam heal on tank kinda sucks since they got tons of HP, prog heal/balance does a lot more heal instantly. Sometimes you need to spam though.

Sustain on tank, Progressive Heal on Iss/melee DD, I don't find it difficult or ineffective, unless people are lazy and refuse to actually change their target.
Target tank using progressive heal quickly switch to Othell/ISS if tank is taking too much damage for it to be effective.

Its as simple as that, throw in the occasional brilliant heal and balance life and panic heal should never really have to be used in pve.

Having your weapon +4 also helps having the bonus of M.Crit dmg/M.Crit rate makes brilliant heal/panic heal that bit more effective

Simple.

It's not that simple. Sometimes Iss tries to use Rush and/or dagger runs away

Just gotta keep your eyes open 8/10 they should be there xD

I hate my Iss because he rushes all the time "to not get bored" >< Forcing me to cast Balance/Panic Heal.
I know a dagger that thinks its better to run away from heals than to get healed. It's a bit annoying, but if he wants to stand on the side until I balance or die to a random nuke then so be it, a few more deaths and that behavior probably stops.
the skill descriptions crearly is misstranslated, as we know translate isnt the goal here. As some said before, the target gets the less amount of heal from progressive, then if you'r attempting to keep your tank alive and smooth, just cast the skill on someone else near him and its done. Its not hard to macro: /target %party2, /useskill Progressive Heal, /target %party1; then you will have tank always in target. But I think the most important for healer is TALK, not take that much longer and can save some nerves off: before hunting, talk with your dds, tank w/e what to do, where to stay while tank are pulling and when he's coming to spot and all shall be fine.

sustain lvl 3 (heal bonus)+fairy, ok; but panic heal for pve? I've dumped it to trash long time ago. Really, if I'm forced to throw even 1 panic heal while party is hunting, its a clear signal of "hey kids, stop wan.king and babling on fb and FOCUS! Serious sh.its are happening!"

And tell the tank to use Focus Shield. Today I had a tank with full TW that forgot to turn it on and took craploads of damage from 3 mere groups... I had my hard time trying to not make the party wipe.

I cant say if its your case, but random parties are quite a challenge. I even met 1 healer that quitted after awakening 'cause he felt not being enough to deal with such frustration; and I can count on my fingers the few friends that can party with me and let me able to joke, make some clan chat or just msg'in with other friends while all is running smooth.
It was a random party, I'm quite used to meet complete noobies there.
Wrong thread/browser tab.
