Are ALL lineage 2 servers pvp or something? I was just attempting to get through quests at level 12 and all of a sudden got 1 shot by someone with a red name (I assume it was a player).
Seriously wtf? They allow *** holes to 1 shot people who aren't even passed the starting zone? REALLY?
I'm now apparently in the village and have absolutely no clue how to get back to where I was. Can't ask for directions because I'm not level 20 yet.

Welcome to open world PvP where you can be attacked or attack other players anytime you wish. Players with red names in starter zones are generally end game players who have nother better to do than bother lowbies in the starter zones.
It has been this way in Lineage 2 since it was created back in 2002 in Korea and then ported to the USA in 2003/2004.
As for losing track of where you are just open your quest window and see where you are. Click on the quest in question and a yellow marker will appear on your world map.
Get used to the system, L2 is open world and anything goes since PK'ing at any level is not against the rules.

Yes, L2 is an open pvp game. At your level you will regain the lost xp by killing about 3 mobs. Be aware, there are some players (the ones that have the eenie weenie teenie peenie syndrom) who get their kicks running around pk'ing random people (usually of lower level) to try to prove to themselves with pixels that they are uber or something.
Get the Blessing of Protection from the Newbie buffer. It will keep players over 10 (I think) levels above you from killing you.
If you can't deal with the minor setback of being pk'd, probably should look for a new game. In my experience (playing since beta) it doesn't happen a lot.
There are a lot of people in L2 who enjoy pvp and I have no problem with that as long as it isn't rude griefer bullies who just attack at random. You might even enjoy it when you get higher level :) Sieges and clan wars and such can be kinda fun at times ;)
Read up on the game, patch notes, forum. You will start to see how L2 works :)

You are level 12, get a grip it took you like 12 minutes to get that high. If this is really upsetting you this much you should most likely find a different game cause this is just the tip of the ice berg and you are a titanic target. (get it... I humor myself like this all day)

Actually, it really isn't PVP or a fight... it is more like PVE when killing lowbies. I think that guys was just trying to teach you about the protection available to you from 1 -35, see picture below.

Lineage has always been like that. It usually forces players to take care of themselves. Its more 'dangerous' and cruel than most of MMO's out there.
For example some years ago, you could drop gear worth weeks or months of grinding just by death from a mob.

Yeah like me, love flows from me 24/7 and I am always ready to help another player. I will admit I love it even more when I PK someone (low or high) and they PM me freaking out about being PKed, makes me LOL even more and leaves a BIG smile on my face.
For the record: Being a PKer for me doesn't mean I want a fair fight. I don't care if you call me names, or my mother names, or even if you get away with a BSOE. I do not slam my fist on the keyboard if you kill me with your boxed support toon. Shouts about how hard it will be to work off my Karma are ludicrous considering I am close to 40 million negative Karma. It is fun playing the bad guy and running around the map a hunted criminal... it is not personal so stop freaking out like it is.

oh, and I don't pk people, and I PvP players my own level usually and I win some lose some. PvP is part of the game, and part of the pleasure, and part of the pain of L2.
As someone else said, if you don't like it, don't cry about it; move on go play something that suits your style.

This! same feeling i experienced the other they when leveling in Bloody Swampland. A group of may be 3 Pks with a couple of purple supporting came and PKed me before i was aware of what was happenning. For a moment the old L2 came back. :D

I had a PKr "Raditz" on Devianne server on my friend list, after he killed me a couple of times we got chatting, and I then knew when he was around and knew to watch my back.

It happens then Lineage 2 gets borring, yes, i did this too about month ago, not only then L2 gets borring, then you want to get rid of your character to dont play with him again. :D You know what? Go to newbie buffer (or called something like this), and take lucky buff, players 10 levels up from you will do you 0dmg. Remember this. :)

Try learning a little about the game before you start it. The servers haven't changed in the 8+ years they've been around. They've always been open pvp, so if that is something you don't like, then perhaps you should have looked into it ahead of times.
Many games are popular out there because everyone has different styles and desires from how they want to play. Instead of complaining about this one after less than 20 minutes of play time, either keep going & give it a shot or quit & find something else.
It took me almost a month to go 1-20 on my first toon. Newbie buffs, vitality, instant leveling newbie quests, etc...didn't exist. Sorry if we are lacking in sympathy.

There is nothing wrong with newbies wanting to experience the game. However, you seem to have some fundamental reading problems. My issue is with the OP saying the PK mechanics were stupid when he didn't even know how they worked in the first place.

In those days you would drop your stuff. They would farm newbies for drops, pking all around newbie areas.
It gives stories though, I still remember how a dwarf was hunting my party but the archer was too fast for him. Aaah exciting times.
Lineage 2 is not so bad with the ganking, the punishment is quite high. Look at it like this, from killing u he gets loads of karma and he ll be hunted everywhere. You however can get back your xp in 5 minutes. Get PKed around level 90 and loose 2hours worth of xp.
