So I'm new to the game. Got to 40 in a day or so doing what I believe to be a main quest. But at 40 I cant really find a main quest...is there one? How do you all recommend I level up from this point on? Is there a main quest? Do random quests? Grind mobs? Something else?
Here's what I do. I make no claims that it is optimal in any way.
There's a quest you can get immediately after doing your second job change that takes you to Ivory Tower. Do that quest and then grind there until 46 or 47. Then go to Outlaw Forest (still from Oren) and grind until 49. Do the Palakia (sp) quest in Gludin at 49 then go back to Outlaw Forest until 50. Do the quest you get at 50 for mobs in Outlaw Forest. Grind there until 52. At that point, head to Fields of Massacre (Aden) and grind there. There is a quest you can get at 55 (don't remember what it's called but it's easy). At 58 head to Valley of Saints (Rune) until 60. At 60 you get daily quests.

Go to Aden and shout for a mentor if you haven't done yet.
Then go to Cruma Tower floor 2 and grind till 55. After that depends on your character (since you haven't written it yet). If you are playing a melee toon just go to Tower of Insolence and grind there.
There are very few quests that are worth it (daily quests and some Pailakas, and 7 signs, etc). But even their worth is questionable against grinding with Mentor bonus XP.

Whats the mentoring thing? I cant get over about how much L2 has changed over the years >.<
Basically you find someone who will mentor you and when he/she is logged in you get +200% bonus XP and nice buffs. Also make sure you claim the free items from the website.
For your paladin, make sure you are in Vanguard mode with two handed swords you will level just like any other damage dealer that way. Cruma till 55 and TOI (with mentor buffs) are my suggestions. Or you can do fields of massacre then Valley of Saints, then Hot Springs/Silent Valley/Shrine of Loyalty/Imperial Tomb afterwards. The latter is what my paladin mentee has done in past 10 days from level 41 to 82.

Been shouting for a mentor for a bit now...is finding one hard? Seems like it :(
Also finding a mentor is not that hard. Shout in bigger cities - preferably Aden, maybe Rune. You may want to start a thread on it in your server forum.
